You shoved the couch, straining to fit it through the doorframe, while Mikayla stood on the other side, waving her arms like a traffic controller.

“Left! Mi seh left! No, yuh move it too far the other way!”

You groaned, wiping sweat off your forehead. “I am moving it left, Mikayla.”

“Yuh must confuse left with right,” she teased, poking her head around the corner to laugh at you.

With one last shove, the couch finally lurched forward—only for the corner to slam into the wall, scraping off a chunk of paint. You both froze, staring at the damage.

“Well, that worked out great,” you muttered, rolling your eyes.

Mikayla burst out laughing, nearly doubling over. “Yuh nuh hear the wall cry out fi help?”

You sighed, shaking your head but unable to resist grinning. “I knew we should’ve just hired movers.”

“Nah, we good! Just a likkle scratch. The place nuh complete till we make it fi we.”

You sat down on the half-moved couch, breathing hard, while Mikayla flopped down beside you, still giggling. “Maybe we should scratch the whole apartment while we’re at it, really make it ours.”

“Yeh?” Mikayla nudged you playfully. “Next, we ah pick fight with the fridge? That ting nuh want fi move!”

You chuckled, glancing at the fridge across the room. “Yeah, well, let’s try not to take the whole kitchen down with us this time.”
