If you don't mind me asking, was there a particular reason for setting KO in an alternate early 2000s rather then some kind of future setting? Was it the aesthetics, or a deeper plot reason?

Great question! There are a few reasons. For starters, I wanted to play around with the idea of sci-fi (specifically cyberpunk), and how it's always associated with the future. Why can't it be an alternate-history past? I also have some strong nostalgia for the early 2000s.

The early 2000s were also a huge turning point/upheaval for pop culture, especially regarding technology. Part of KO CRISIS is exploring the nostalgia of a time when tech was clunky and weird and made by a million different companies, instead of Four Big Corporations. (I also just love the aesthetics of the Y2K tech boom and how fucking crazy computers and phones and stuff looked. Transparent shell casings and blobjects, I miss you...) Another part is exploring the rise of tech integration/assimilation into our everyday lives, especially as a reflection to how crazy shit has gotten now (chip implants, AI, social media). At the risk of sounding pretentious, doing tech worldbuilding stuff has always been a way for me to look back at how pop culture used to be, and how bad things have gotten now. KO CRISIS's world is sorta in the middle of that transition, framed by the commodification of disabled/cyborg bodies as objects of entertainment and sport.

One of the big things is that there are going to be a lot more people that know about Splatoon and such then then there are who know about you, so the fan art has a much larger pool of people for notes to come in.

Taking a break from drawing a ton of fan-art and focusing on my original stuff is great because I have so much art for portfolios and college now, but after my last two posts, I can’t help but feel like I’m a washed up, 16-year-old has-been. Feels like not drawing fan-art for you guys and everyone else has caused a huge dip in interest, which sucks. I’m not sure if I’ll go back to focusing on fan-art though. And I’m not about to make empty promises (again).

I’ve been watching Batman The Animated Series recently and in one episode Hugo Strange tries selling Batman’s identity, and when he says it’s Bruce Wayne Two-Face (who was a close friend of Bruce while still Harvey in this series) says “That’s absurd, I know Bruce Wayne. If he’s Batman, I’m the king of England”

Batman and his Pleasant Extrovert Persona Bruce Wayne and the stark difference between the two are also like

Peak neurodivergent mood. Bruce’s real personality is stoic and grumpy and blunt and he has hella resting bitch face and then he pretends to be chipper and polite and Normal to move through society and throw people off of the scent of his real personality.
