Come On, College Isnt Supposed To Be A Safe Space. The Whole Reason We'rehere Is To Be Challenged Intellectually.

Come on, college isn’t supposed to be a safe space. The whole reason we're here is to be challenged intellectually.
I’m not talking about intellectal safety, Daphne. For you, this is all just some fun academic debate. But I’m talking about my emotional safety.

I opened my first coconut and was very proud of myself
Between stories on episode, books, tv shows, and movies I want to see, I’m drowning in media and literature!!
Not that that’s a bad thing of course.
Couldn’t have said it better
you’ve gotta understand, adrien going to the extreme of renouncing his miraculous in the middle of battle isn’t because “i can’t handle criticism I quit”. it’s because he’s afraid he’s going to hurt more people, hurt ladybug, be the cause of their failure.
he idolizes ladybug, she’s his escapism from his home life. the minute ladybug says “I can’t trust you anymore”, his whole alternate life shatters. he hurt the one person who gives him comfort, the one person he’s deeply in love with. he feels as though he constantly burdens her and makes things harder for her. why would he want to continue hurting the person he loves? the moment he finds out ladybug needs him, that she can’t function without her partner, he comes back. because she reassures him that he is wanted and needed and capable of getting the job done.
ladybug has a huge impact on how adrien sees himself and his worth. she’s the only person he can be himself around, and ultimatley her view on him is what he values and trusts the most.
I was very pleased to see that other people recognized these themes in this movie
A simplified but deeply necessary lesson on historical revisionism and core themes of the value of respecting diversity and a leader’s responsibility to accept feedback and criticism?? In my 2020 children’s movie sequel based on a 1960s fad toy franchise?? It’s more likely than you think.
Okay, but all jokes aside, it’s shockingly mature of Trolls World Tour to specifically address an uncomfortable history in which the ancestors of the protagonists are the villains. Just like how that decent condescending language metaphor scene in Zootopia (where ‘cute’ is considered an socially iffy term for carnivores to use to describe rabbits) provides children with great sample dialogue to emulate from either side. The good-hearted cheetah sincerely apologizes and the rabbit forgives him: “That’s okay. You didn’t know.” When Prince D reveals to Poppy that King Peppy’s version of the origin story of the strings was wrong and absolved the Pop trolls of their wrongdoing, Poppy doesn’t defend them or herself, and neither does she wallow in self-pitying guilt. She believes the royal Funk troll family, shows immediate desire and will to rectify the situation, and then listens when they explain to her that her solution would just be destructive. The flawed protagonist is still the one that the audience is supposed to relate to and support during her character growth, so the children watching are subtly taught that the correct action to take when learning uncomfortable truths is to take responsibility in a mindful, educated and ego-free manner.
I mean, as adults we laugh when Prince D says “Scrapbooks?? Scrapbooks are cut out, glued and glittered by the winners.” But just like how young kids these days only recognize The Sound Of Silence as ‘that song from the movie Trolls’, there’s a good chance that this line from Trolls World Tour will be many kids’ first exposure to that common phrase. The simplified metaphor will stick with them. And when these kids grow up, some will realize that they’ve inherited bad legacies like Poppy, but that they have the power to make change in respectful ways and undo that damage however they can.
