Okay, here we go with Tara again

So I guess it's Nemeton stuff, but for whatever reason there's a situation where the nightmares get physical manifestation, and Theo, Stiles and someone else is in this zone, and the stronger the horror the more real the manifestation is, and while Stiles' (and I guess whoever is also there) nightmares might be a bit more abstract and maybe too varying and easier to physically run from (for the my particular purposes), Tara is Theo's very particular, very concentrated nightmare, and she does move fast, just like in a dream (it's not Cabeswater I swear), so she catches up to them all the time, and her bone chilling "Theo... " follows them all the way, so eventually Theo understands that she'll catch up with them anyway, and he stops, and tells others to go, and meets her, and she almost manages to actually rip his heart out but in the last moment when she was already tugging it out of Theo's chest, Stiles and their third party stopped whatever produced the effect

And they found Theo, who was barely alive, but healed and was all "I'm fine", and since it's more pre-Steo, Stiles doesn't say anything

They go home, and for REASONS, obviously, Theo sleeps on Stiles' floor, so they go to bed, and Stiles of course can't sleep

Amd he sees Theo laying there in weak moonlight, tense and curled up in himselve, staring intently in the dark, eyes shining with dread and seemingly not focusing on anything or trying focus on everything at once, slightly jumping from every sound

So he calls him quietly, whispers his name, wanting to comfort him a bit

And Theo basically jumps, if he wasn't lying on the floor, he probably would've fallen off the bed, going straight into flight or fight mode, not fully comprehending reality

But he's quick to gain some little piece of control back, so he says that he's fine, and he can go sleep in the living room if Stiles can't sleep because of him

But Stiles says no, and slowly talking in a soothing voice comes closer, kneels on front of Theo, saying that it's alright, everything lbs fine, and eventually he gets a hand on Theo's arm, and pulls him up, telling some pretty generic and average story about how he went to sleep with his parents when he was too scared as a child, and how it always helped to have someone's warmth and solidity around, so he tugs him to the bed and makes Theo lie down on it, and he just keeps a hand on Theo's arm all the time, which is a bit uncomfortable, maybe rubbing it up and down, maybe just being there

And it actually helps, they both fall asleep

At first, when they just start to date, Theo always holds Stiles a little to tight, no matter if he hugs him, they hold hands or whatever - it's always a little more pressure than actually needed

Because Theo has to constantly make sure that Stiles is there, he's not leaving him, and also he imprints all of this, all these feelings in his memory because subconsciously he doesn't believe it will last

And Stiles gets used to it, to be held a tad to tight, it's just the way it is

But years later they walk down the street holding hands, and Stiles looks down at their loose grip, and he suddenly remembers that Theo used to do this, to hold him too tight, demanding as much contact as possible, always worried

And Stiles realises he missed the moment his boyfriend started to actually believe they will last, that Stiles isn't going anywhere, that he doesn't have to try to remember every moment, that he can actually just let go

But it wasn't really one moment, was it. It was Theo slowly realising all these things, believing in his worthiness, loosing the need to always make sure, learning how to make his touch feather light and his grip so loose it's barely even there, just the idea of contact, really, learning to let Stiles go knowing he's come back

Stiles saw Theo heal right in front of his eyes, and suddenly he's so happy, he can barely breath, and Theo turns to him, worried, and wraps his arms around Stiles' waist, easily, not clutching, just holding him steady

And Stiles kisses his boyfriend in the middle of the street, cupping his face, the lightest kiss, barely a touch

And now Theo just accepts it, doesn't push for more

He's healed

Forget everything you think you knew of who I used to be  I look much better as the enemy

chapter 23: revelations

Isaac tosses the second towel in the bin and rubs his forehead, smearing blood on his face. He notices and groans then crosses the room. He steps over Theo, whose head has been propped onto another towel and vanishes into the bathroom. In comparison to Theo, Isaac looks like a whirlwind. The chimera still hasn’t moved. He’s still out cold. He’s still-

Stiles’ breath catches in his throat.

“Hey, hey-” Brett squeezes his shoulder “-he’ll be fine. It takes more than a bump on the head to kill someone with supernatural healing.”

Stiles swallows. “A broken neck?”

“More,” Brett says, smiling weakly. “Trust me, the second he opens his mouth, you’ll wish you did accidentally kill him.”

Although he appreciates the attempt to lighten the mood - after all, it’s something he would find himself doing if the situation was reserved - Stiles can’t help but feel terrible about what happened. Theo deserved to be punched in the face for sure, but that’s a bit much. He didn’t mean to knock him out. He didn’t mean to almost kill him. He just wanted to push him off. He wanted him to stop. He wanted to- Stiles sighs and slumps against the couch. Brett wraps an arm around his shoulder and gives him an encouraging squeeze. 

Stupid werewolves and their stupid need for physical affection. Stiles knows that’s a thing because he spent an entire summer looking for Erica and Boyd. He saw Isaac’s increasing demand for affection, something Derek gave him willingly even though he pretended he hated it. He saw Cora staying close, saw Boyd and Isaac brushing up against each other whenever they had the chance. Stiles knows it grounds them.
