Snowball Fight ~ Cho Kyuhyun

“I forgot how damn cold it was outside,” you stuttered, pushing the door open of the SM building, stepping out into the snow. It was cold, far too cold for you, as you tightened your jacket around your body, bringing your shoulders up to cover your ears.

“I like it, really feels like Christmas,” Kyuhyun remarked, following behind you. All day he’d been at you, disagreeing with everything you said to try and wind you up.

You groaned, not even turning back to look at him as you walked towards the car, desperate to get out of the cold air and into somewhere a little bit warmer.

Behind you, you could hear Kyuhyun’s heavy footsteps trudging through the snow, every so often you’d hear him jump and thud, followed by a little giggle as he embraced the feel of the snow crunching underneath his feet.

“Sometimes you really can be such a kid,” you muttered, picking up the pace a little more through the car park. “Why did you have to park so far away this morning? This is torture.”

You thought he hadn’t heard you as you muttered under your breath, but he heard every word. Before you knew it, a large thud hit against the back of your head, feeling ice cold clumps of snow run straight down your back.

“Did you really just throw a snowball at me? Do you really want to play this game?”

Your mouth was wide open with shock as you turned to look at him, shaking your body to get rid of all of the snow. His cheeky smile was wider than it had ever been before as he nodded, already bending down to pick up another ball of snow, moulding it in his gloved hands.

“You’re the one complaining how long of a walk it is, so why not make it a bit of fun?” He questioned, laughing away to himself. “I know how much you love the snow!”

Before he had the chance to throw anything though, you’d run behind one of the cars, quickly scooping up a ball of snow to make a weapon of your own. You tiptoed carefully around all the vehicles, keeping a close eye on every footstep that Kyuhyun took.

As you watched him through one of the gaps in the cars, you leapt up, throwing the snowball perfectly so it hid the side of his face. “Are you sure you want to play these games with me?”

Once he’d realised what had happened, his eyes looked around for where you were, chasing after you with a much larger snowball in his hands than the one before. Whilst you raced around to dodge him, you quickly tried to pick up as much snow as you could.

In between your loud laughter, you’d forgotten all about how cold it was, the only thing you worried about was whereabouts Kyuhyun was. The only thing to help you, the fact that his laughter was so loud, letting you know exactly where he was.

Just as you began to make yourself comfortable, you felt a large pile of snow be disposed right on top of your head. A mischievous laugh erupted from above you as you turned your head up to look at Kyuhyun.

“That’s a low blow even for you,” you joked, shaking all the snow out of your hair, “do you know how long it took me to do my hair this morning?”

His shoulders shrugged, but still, ever as the thoughtful boyfriend he took out all the little lumps of snow from the strands of your hair, straightening it all back out into position once he was sure that all of it was out.

“What do you say if we can catch a couple of the guys?” You quizzed, pointing over as you spotted Donghae and Eunhyuk walking out of the building together.

At times Kyuhyun wondered if he could love you anymore, but when you suggested ideas like that one, he knew you were most definitely the girl for him, it really was as if you could read his mind.

“Maknae on top strikes again,” he chuckled, kneeling down with you to make two snowballs each, keeping quiet as you watched them walk through the car park to where Donghae’s car was parked.

The two of you were silent as you watched them walk, waiting for the exact moment that they walked inline with the two of you to unleash, each snowball struck them both perfectly, sinking back down quickly before they both spotted you.

“Whoever that was, you better come out before I find you!” You heard Eunhyuk yell, covering your hand with your mouth to stifle your laughter.

“You can’t hide forever,” you heard Donghae add, turning to face Kyuhyun. He nodded further along the car park, taking your hand, and pulling you a few cars further along to roll some more.

What you hadn’t quite realised was the loud crunch of your footsteps through the snow as you made up some more snowballs, searching for a sign of the two of them.

“Do you reckon we passed their car?” You whispered across to Kyuhyun as you began to grow impatient, “maybe they’ve already driven off and we’re going to be here forever?”

Your question was answered when you both were pelted by snowballs, covering your eyes with your hands, you moved them away once the attack had stopped to see Donghae and Eunhyuk both staring back at you both, shaking their heads at the playful smiles on both of your faces.

“You two are impossible,” Eunhyuk spoke, looking between you. “What’s wrong with you throwing snowballs in this weather? It’s freezing!”

“But your reaction was hilarious,” you challenged, high-fiving Kyuhyun. “You should have seen your faces wondering where they’d come from? It was too good an opportunity to miss.”

Once the two of you had finished laughing, you stood back up, dropping your snowballs at the request of the boys to bring an end to your little battle before it got too cold for you all. The two of you were reluctant, but as the youngsters, you still obliged.

“If I ever get hit by a snowball from the two of you again, I won’t be responsible,” Donghae scolded.

“You two are so boring sometimes,” you teased, watching as Donghae began to scoop up a ball of snow, quickly making you run away from him. With that, you said goodbye to the boys for the evening, finally making your way to where Kyuhyun’s car was parked.

“We should definitely try that prank on Yesung tomorrow, he’s always so clueless.”

You stood back and nodded as Kyuhyun pulled out his car keys, leaping straight into the car and turning the heating on as soon as it was unlocked. He couldn’t help but chuckle at your reaction, knowing he was probably partly to blame for it.

The two of you took a few moments before you drove off to warm yourselves up, watching as the cool air of your breaths disappeared, and the natural colour came back to both your hands, searching for any bit of warmth that you could find.

“This is all your fault!”

He nodded proudly, taking a hold of your hands, rubbing against them to try and generate a bit of friction and warm you up, blowing hot air down onto them to try and get you cosy once again.

“I take full responsibility,” he smiled, “but it was fun. It’s been ages since I had a snowball fight or played in the snow. Maybe we should do it again when we’re a bit more appropriately dressed.”

“As long as you promise not to mess up my hair next time.”

“You still looked beautiful even with a bit of snow in your hair,” he complimented, squeezing tighter against your hand, “if anything I think you looked prettier with the snow, it was like looking at a real life angel.”

A small blush crept onto your cheeks, looking away from him. “You can stop being soppy, I’m not mad at you anymore for throwing the snowball.”

“I’m only speaking the truth.”

Before you could speak, a chapped pair of lips pressed to your cheeks. “I’m honestly not even that cold anymore Kyuhyun, why don’t we head home, and I’ll make us both a hot chocolate?”

“How about we stop off at that café instead? I’ll even pay as punishment for throwing the first snowball.”

He knew you could never say no to your favourite café and that he was onto a winner, letting go of your hands so he could drive through the snow. As you did, a spluttering of snow hit both of your windows, glancing back as you passed by to see Eunhyuk and Donghae stood in the middle of the road in hysterics.

“Sometimes your friends can be real pains,” you joked, looking across at him, “sometimes I wonder how you’re all still friends for so long.”

“Probably because we’re all as childish as each other, I threw a snowball too.”

“Maybe you’re right, but it was fun playing in the snow.”

“Exactly! Adults can enjoy the snow too!”
