Soul Flame | noun

A being with which you share a bond that cannot be broken.

A being who can feel their mates feelings and thoughts.

Soul Flames came into existence shortly after I had entered middle school, I can still remember the news reports blasting across every channel. You couldn’t turn on the television, radio or even walk down the street without being bombarded by the news. 

“Real or Fake?! First existence of soul mates discovered in Europe!”

“New phenomenon discovered, scientists have named Soul Flames!”

Soul Flames were people you instinctually bonded with, but the catch was only one person would be able to feel their soul flame initially, and only when they were within a short distance of each other. Scientists were still trying to figure out why only one person in the bond would be able to feel what the other person was feeling upon first meeting. Once the bond was complete with your soul flame the other bond would be able to feel their thoughts and feelings. The term Soul Flame came from what happened open mating, I guess each bond had a unique “flame” when they mated, the soul flames had described it as a colorful aura that enveloped them and created a feeling, which of course, couldn’t be described by anyone other than the bonded as it wasn’t visible to the naked eye. This in itself made the idea of soul flames a lot for people to believe in, seeing is believing after all.

Everyone went a little crazy after the first announcement, running around getting as close to anyone they found remotely attractive to see if a bond would appear. After the first month though was when things really started to turn sideways. Without having any visible way of telling who was truly your soul flame, people started using this to their own advantage. Lying about being someone’s soul flame to get them to sleep with them, steal from them or worse. As quickly as a year from announcing the first bonded pair, the term Soul Flame had become synonymous with ghosts and Bigfoot, something the government would rather sweep under the rug then acknowledge.

When you had to be in such a short distance of your soul flame to even find one, how in the 8 million people in the world would you ever meet such a person, if they even existed?

Author’s Note: This story came to me after watching the MBTI video on YouTube with BTS. A very jealous Jungkook adamantly said he would never let his girlfriend peel a perilla leaf. He seemed so annoyed at the scenario, he couldn’t even control his foot tapping on the ground, replying No many times in pout to the members. So naturally I had to write a story about what might happen if you did just that. This is just a quickie drabble, so excuse any bad writing!

Jimin, Taehyung and yourself were seated around a table, smoke drifting up from the grill between you as you watched the meat sizzle. Jungkook should be here soon, he had to get in a workout of course before joining for drinks.

You glanced around the practically empty restaurant, this was one of the few places you could go without being bombarded by paparazzi, and even then we had to go late at night.

You tapped your phone awake, 11:26… he was supposed to be here by 11. No doubt he got wrapped up yet again working on that delicious body you had had the pleasure of being intertwined with last night.

“I’m hungry!” Taehyung whined, fingers itching towards the meat, chopsticks in hand. You knocked his hand away causing Jimin to bust out laughing, “Jk will be here any minute!” Taehyung sat back with a pout, arms crossed on his chest.

Jimin wrapped an arm around your shoulder squeezing you against his side, “I’m sure he’s just running late, don’t worry!” Could he tell the worry was starting to eat at you a little, you’d had one too many run ins with the paparazzi to feel totally comfortable being outside the safety of Jungkook’s house.

White. White and bright. The smell of sanitiser stung his nose. What was the use of all of this really? To hope for another day of uncertain safety?

What was the point anyway? Taehyung knew he was going to die. Be one of the many bodies in a plastic bag left out back of the shelter in the alleyway until someone came to collect the small pile built on bones.

The hallway was so bright yet his vision was too blurry to notice, too lifeless to care. Even as they turned the last corner and he noticed the bright red at the end of the hallway, contrasting against the white, he didn’t care. Not when chances of survival were close to a definitive 0%. His striped tail almost brushed the floor as he let it hang completely. There was no use in showing his emotions. No one would care.

“Wait!” A pair of feet moved quickly towards him. “I’ll take him!” The mixed scents of familiar and unfamiliar filled his sensitive nose.

“I’ll take him,” The stranger’s voice repeated.

“Finally!” Seokjin called with a slightly annoyed tone. “We’ve been worried sick over here while you were running around the city.” He grabbed (Y/N) and Namjoon around the shoulders with one last sigh as he hugged them. (Y/N) let out an unsteady sight.

“Woah, did something happen? You’re shaking.” Seokjin pulled away to turn his full focus on her. She closed her eyes for a moment.

“We might have given her a slight heart attack.” Namjoon chuckled sheepishly as his ears turned down at the eldest glare.

“I’m fine. I just need some food and a good nap.” She smiled at Seokjin. The feline nodded as he eagerly pulled her to sit down in one of the unsteady camping chairs.

“But-“

“No buts, Joon watch her while I make food,” Seokjin said as he pointed at her. The wolf chuckled as he made his way over.
