I will always see minecraft steve as an honest and slightly shy, demure man who holds a curiosity for the world around him and has an indescribable deep sadness in his eyes. I don’t like it when people make him mean or cruel :(

tbh i would have loved a minecraft movie where the world was visibly updating around steve and alex as they explore. like, the first couple days have the old textures and their movement is laggy etc.

it takes a little while for the audience to notice, but as the days go by, there are more mobs and new trees and the movements of everything is smoother. and suddenly everything is so much more colourful than it was before and now the oceans have life, and the villages are huge, and the nether is full of biodiversity and the caves are enormous and theres something lurking at the bottom

and throughout the movie, you can see the odd character in the background of youtubers that started playing during whatever version it is at that point, and when we reach 1.20 all of a sudden alex and steve run into this group of people and its all the new character skins that were introduced at that point

idk its a shame we get something that visibly didnt have much thought put into it aside from 'lets make jumanji again but this time its minectaft' when there are so many possibilities that have so much more interest

Besides everything happening with the Minecraft movie, people don't seem to realize that this breaks one of the monecrafts core idea that Steve shouldn't be a character but a way for players to see themselves in the world they created, that's why Minecraft story mode didn't have Steve or Alex. You can see this on the minecraft book on the internet archive, i am lazy to find the link tho.

This movie is going to be so shit.

I think the reason this “stylization” of Minecraft bugs me is because it’s inconsistent. Yes everything is block shaped, but those blocks vary in size all over the place. It doesn’t make sense. Why is so much of the terrain made up of different sized blocks?

And I’ve seen some people say “well that’s just to make it clear it’s a blocky world. It would look weird if the blocks were all the same size” and I just gotta ask…

Have you PLAYED Minecraft?

The landscapes in Minecraft, especially with shaders, are sometimes absolutely BREATHTAKING. And that’s achieved without having to treat people like they’re stupid and make enormous block rocks to drive the point home the world is made of blocks.

Part of the BEAUTY of Minecraft is the fact that the terrain IS just made of the same sized blocks. I mean, look at these pictures! Why can’t our Minecraft movie look like this?!?

Instead we have inconsistent blocks making up a terrain that doesn’t exist in the game with a village that includes a windmill (which again is not something in the game). Even on trees the blocky shapes of the leaves vary wildly and they have branches that do not exist in Minecraft.

It’s like they saw Minecraft, saw that it was pixelated and blocky, and then just made concept art based on that rather than try to work within the parameters of what makes Minecraft… Minecraft!
