“Aha! Y’see, I’m always on top.” Nathan said, curls falling in Simon’s face as he looked up at you and winked with a click of his mouth. Him and the quieter boy had been play-fighting, as Nathan does with everybody.

“Eurh, Nathan. Stop being weird.” Drawled Kelly, rolling her eyes at her best friend’s familiar antics, his stupid filthy jokes. “Ignore him, man, he’s a dick.”

“That’s okay.” You mumble, making sure to meet your boyfriend’s shamrock green eyes, raising an eyebrow like you were berating him. A sly and knowing smirk splits your lips. “I know he’s not always on top.”

Breath audibly hitching, Nathan continued to look up at you. His gaze grew hazy and you could practically feel his bravado fading before you. “Eeugh, nah, both of you! Naw, It’s vile, save it for the bedroom!” Kelly gagged, hands moving to cover her ears as if it would stop her hearing about her best mate’s less than holy imagination.

Nathan always made sexual jokes. Revolving around him being the dominant one, the one pounding into somebody, the one growling praise… but the boy was an attention addict. Everything he did stemmed from wanting, - needing, - attention. This mindset seeped into the bedroom. The first time you slept with Nathan, he was all tough and the sarcastic funny guy you knew, until he was squeezed between your walls. You’d never seen a cuter orgasm face. Suddenly, that big facade he had was gone, and with a loud and throaty moan, you had a lanky Irish curly-head tucked into the crook of your neck, long limbs sprawled over you. You supposed it was only fair that the cocky little bastard got fucked dumb.

Unexpectedly, Nathan was a big fan of aftercare, though it was usually him who needed cuddling. Be it his childhood or his fucked up past sexual experiences, he adored the feeling of your warm body against his face, and soft arms protecting him from the outside world. If you ever needed something from Nathan, now would be the perfect time to ask, pliant, honest, and cum-drunk, tucked in your embraced like a touch-starved child.

He was so lucky that nobody but you saw how completely weak he was, really. His cover-up was perfectly structured and crafted, each detail carved to perfection to hide the pathetic boy who curled inside. He wasn’t used to someone loving both sides of him.

The curly-haired boy babbled, nuzzling his nose into your neck as if he could climb into your skin. He’d never found himself trusting someone so deeply, because whenever he did: they’d rip off his clever dickhead mask, shatter it, and then leave him scrambling in the dirt to collect the shards again. He really hated trusting people. But you? You were different. You loved him.

“Sorry, Kells. It’s my fault” you claimed, grinning cheekily as you stepped forwards to ruffle your boyfriend’s head of thick brown curls. “I guess I just… get his mind spinning, hm?” Nathan nods softly. In those eyes, you see that soft, needy version of him that only shows himself in the soft folds of the duvet at night. You watch as his pretty face creases into that signature smile again. “Can’t help it when a hot bird’s offering to top me.” He says with a dramatic raise of his thick brows. You scoff, and so does Kelly. “Right. I’m going home. Don’t have him moaning too loudly, yeah?”

“Oi! I do not moan like that-“

“Yeah, I’ll try my best. Can’t promise anything - I get him pretty vocal.”

‘Are you sure this is such a good idea?’

Ben’s timid voice warbles out from beside your ear, but you’re too busy shoving half-wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches into your knapsack to really pay attention to his hesitancy. You raise an eyebrow at him and he sighs in return, looking dolefully down at the bottle of chocolate milk he hands to you.

‘If I don’t go, how much longer do you think Klaus is going to last out there? This is the third time this week dear old daddy dickhead has locked him out there, and each time he comes back he’s even quieter than the last. It’s starting to scare me Ben.’ The young boy who should be far to young to already know the horrors of which you speak swallows thickly beside you; his left hand gives him away as it unconsciously reaches up to grip at his pyjama top, nails digging into the meat of his stomach. The other hand grips onto the frame of the kitchen chair and squeezes until his knuckles burn white. ‘I know. It’s scaring me too.’ 

You make to go, but before you can turn towards the stairs Ben has desperately taken a step forward and grabbed onto your bicep. With a fear-stricken face, he tries and tugs you back towards the dim mothy glow of the open fridge light, nearly knocking a jar of mayonnaise onto the floor with the effort. ‘But Y/n, dad will kill you if he catches you sneaking out there again! He called my bluff the last time you went down the fire escape, and he swore till he was red in the face if you did it another time he’d lock you away and I’d never see you again!’

You could the tears beginning to swell in Ben’s eyes as he began to tremble, his fingers jumping in a mixture of fear and overwhelming resentment as you placed one of your own tenderly on top of it. ‘What the hell am I going to do if you go? It’ll be so lonely here without you, I might as well be a ghost with how much the others just look through me.’ He wipes the back of his nose with his sleeve and looks deploringly at you, begging you to just stay and come back up the stairs into the safety of bed. But you can’t do it. You just can’t.
