So my church had a mother daughter discussion and I ain’t even wanna go but my mom asked me to come so I stopped by before I went to work, tell me why the topic of finances came up and my mom (the only woman there who went through a divorce) said it’s important to have your own bank account separate from any joint accounts because you could be left with nothing, and immediately she got jumped by all the other women telling her she’s wrong the church said to combine your finances this that and the third. Naturally I defended her and reminded them (nicely) that she lived it, my dad drained their bank accounts and ran off to carajo land when she was a young immigrant with twin toddlers and her church at the time did nothing for her. What will the church do if your life savings are gone and you find yourself broke and unable to afford anything? I also got jumped LOL.

Yeah I actually only recently discovered in the past year or so that not every woman was taught to always have your own money. Even for SAHM and such. Even if a man is providing for you, you should always have something stashed away. That's just common sense. I remember my senior year English teacher (who I LOVED) said she didn't believe in separate bank accounts and I was like oh baby no.

Of course, no one goes into a marriage with divorce and separation and worst case scenario on the mind but life happens. It's a fact that the person you marry will change. Either for the better or the worse but they will change and that's something you should always be prepared to handle. If he gives you grocery money, you keep a piece of that. If he gives you nail money, you keep a piece of that. If he gives you hair appointment money, you keep a piece of that. Even if you don't have the means to open an account, you keep some money somewhere that only you know about.

I find it crazy that it's 2024 and you still have so many women who think it'll never happen to them. Even if they think divorcing won't go that bad, often times the person you divorce is not the same person you married. People, and men especially, can get so mean and vindictive when they don't love/want you anymore
