i was thinking about this a couple of days ago because of an idea that came to my mind, and i ended up in exactly the same conclusion. thx, i couldn't have explained it in a better way

something so fascinating to me is that Hopper would’ve been Billy when he was a teenager (and a much worse one at that, let me tell you). we learn in season 4 that he came from an abusive household, that his dad wasn’t nice and that he left this abusive household to join the army. 

Hopper reacts with anger. Have you guys noticed that??? when he’s confronted with a situation, he reacts violently. like in season 2 with El (threatening to send her back, etc) and he’s homophobic (in the normalised way) as seen in season 1 (when Joyce reports Will missing and he asks if his clothes were gay etc).

but people like Hopper, he’s a fan favourite but hate Billy, for what?? reacting the exact same way? ??

the fact that Hopper is a grown ass man who still reacts violently and is praised/supported whilst Billy, a teenager in an abusive household is demonised for the same things is so interesting
