Wonder if it's canon or not that the poison was actually for Hakuji but since he wasn't at home that time, Koyuki and Keizo were killed instead.

I think that so far the backstories that caused me the most empathy and sadness in KNY are Gyutaro/Daki and Akaza, the first because they're a mirror of Tanjiro and Nezuku, both considering that neither of them have a wealthy family (I mean lots of money), that the people around Kamado family gave them empathy while the demon siblings were hated and ignored, etc., they're a perfect mirror of Tanjiro and Nezuko. On the other hand, Akaza wanting to take care of his sick father and got beatings for stealing, finding a new family in his teacher and his daughter and having them taken away from him. These stories are honestly so sad and make you want that despite everything they have a new opportunity in the future.

"Why does Tanjiro still think about Rengoku, he didn't have that much screen time." "Why is Rengoku still showing up in flashbacks." "Why is Rengoku talked about so much, who cares-"

Because he was a pivoting character to the story. I don't know how I can keep having this conversation with you people.

Because for a brief moment in time, Tanjiro felt the weight of responsibility lift off of his shoulders for a moment and he felt like he could trust Rengoku to take care of him, his sister, and his friends. He was given a glimpse into a possible future as a tsuguko to Rengoku or just to have Rengoku help Tanjiro figure out what Sun Breathing was.

Rengoku, unlike anyone Tanjiro had encountered so far, gave him hope that he could rest for a bit and he could rely on someone else. Rengoku gave him that security, no questions asked.

That was taken away from Tanjiro very quickly.

Because Tanjiro is, and forever will be, grieving over the loss of that person and that hope.
