John Laurens is love. John Laurens is life. John Laurens is Ben Franklin with a key and a kite, you see it, right? -me 2024 (I was dubbed the #1 Von Steuben fan and I will take that title as my own until my dying days when it shall be carved onto my tomb.)

WHY DO YALL CARE ABOUT ME WHAT
ILY

When I first searched that I meant rank but looking back it absolutely looks like I'm asking how much John Laurens was smoking....
as the #1 von steuben fan, can you reccomend me some good sources on his life? (would be great if they acknowledged his sexuality but im pretty desperate at this point)
love ya <3
AYYYY OKAY
First of all I'm so honored
So here's some book recommendations first:
Washington's Gay General
Okay, I admit, at first I wasn't sure about this, but it was actually pretty accurate. It did miss out some details that disappointed me, but overall an actually good source, so I recommend! (About 1-2 hour read)
The drillmaster of Valley Forge
This is a 352 page biography by Paul Lockhart. It's pretty standard and DOES mention his sexuality, think the style of John Laurens' biography if it wasn't written by a southern conservative. So yeah, I recommend! (About a day or two, if you have enough time.)
Du Ponceau's autobiography
Look, I KNOW everyone is talking about this. I KNOW everyone is hyping this up, but try it. Just- I- try it. Its mostly pretty boy trying to find out how America works, but Von Steuben is nonetheless prominent.
AND YUH!
EDIT: I AM BACKK!!!!
I also recommend "General Von Steuben" by John Palmer! It's actually great, but it does, unfortunately, dismiss his sexuality. This is, however, by far the best biography I've found so far.
(I'm also thinking of submitting some short little biography to some website or whatever, if you want more than lemme know, I am SO HONOURED to help. If you want more concise sources besides books, OF COURSE. I AM HERE TO HELP OMFG I LOVE YALL♥️♥️🌎)
THURSDAY THE 20TH

This is actually so accurate and there are actually so many historical references and also RICHARD HENRY LEE ABSOLUTELY KILLED ME AHSJSJSJSHSHHDDHDB (that's actually me)
1776 characters playing Minecraft:
John Adams: rage quitting when he gets blown up by a creeper
Benjamin Franklin: trolling everyone by becoming invisible and punching them
Thomas Jefferson: builds his own apartment
John Dickinson: thinks minecraft is for babies and doesn’t play
John Hancock: legitimately playing the game in hardcore mode and doing amazing
Edward Rutledge: Keeps killing Adams on purpose
Charles Thomson: plays the tutorial world first
James Wilson: is so scared of the mobs that he cries whenever he sees a zombie in the distance
Richard Henry Lee: only uses creative mode and builds so much shit his computer crashes
Stephen Hopkins: Tries to play but spills rum on his computer and now it’s ruined
Thomas McKean: making all the potions to try to find a cure for Rodney and forgets it’s just a game
Caesar Rodney: too sick to play
George Read: see James Wilson
Roger Sherman: does lots of trades in villages and he doesn’t rob them either
Samuel Chase: collects all the food there is
Lyman Hall: Gets bored not even 5 minutes playing
Lewis Morris: abstains courteously from playing
Josiah Bartlett: screams at Chase for not playing the game properly
Joseph Hewes: the only thing he does in the game is deep sea fishing
Robert Livingston: builds a mansion so his kids could play and live in it
John Witherspoon: thinks the game is sacrilegious and refuses to play
Abigail Adams: Builds the best house and forgets it’s not a competition
Martha Jefferson: plays with TJ and they end up forgetting the game and doing the nasty
Andrew McNair: “Sweet Jesus this Warden is hard to kill…”
Courier: spends the entire time mining for diamonds
This is literally everything I do...
YEAH NO THIS IS A WEIRD FANDOM, HUH?
Once again, I heartily agree with you, mah friend. HUZZAH!
Think about it
If you think about it… AmRev is really a messed up fandom.
We hyper fixate on dead dudes, sometimes simp for them even, and adopt some as our children.
We even ship them and research a crap ton out of their personal lives. I mean- do you get how creepy that is??? Imagine 200 years from now a bunch of people going crazy over something stupid we wrote on Tumblr and citing it proof on our sexuality or something! Like what if we’re wrong and two guys were actually just really close bros?? Imagine how awkward they’re feeling in heaven then!
And we make memes about them.
And we make accounts pretending to be them.
And we bully them affectionately and care about them more than some people that are actually living.
We give them nicknames. We want to love and protect some and beat the crap out of others.
And we draw fan art of them. Sometimes really suggestive fan art.
We also write stories about them. Some really explicit, some just really weird, and some even in the modern world.
On top of all that, we go batshit crazy whenever we find a twenty year old movie that takes place in our time frame. And we’re geeks over a kid’s cartoon, an AMC tv show of dubious accuracy, and are pretty much the backbone for a fifty year old musical fandom.
Like bros - wtf even is this fandom????
