When : May 15th, 2020

Where : Vintage Designs

Olivia wanted to replace her shelves. She was tired of the flat black ikea slabs she used to frame her bed. She planned to epoxy pour the shelves, but she was on the hunt for new knobs for the dresser. A few days ago, in her rush to leave the house, her purse strap caught one of the plastic knobs and snapped it. Vintage Designs seemed like just the place to have options, and it had many of them, too many of them. Olivia held one in each hand, squinting as she tried to decide what would look best. Eventually, she caught sight of a familiar friend. “Alex,” she said, holding up each box, “Which ones to go with gold accents and silver marble epoxy?”

“You’re not going to take my power cable away are you?” Lucie smirked, remembering what Liv used to do in the past when they were much younger and Lucie should have been sleeping. Truthfully, she hadn’t even noticed that it was so late, but now she mentioned it, she was beginning to grow tired. “To be honest, I’m glad it’s you and not the cops. I’m sorry, Liv.” She offered, smiling sheepishly. It might not always seem like it, but Lucie was never intentionally trying to be a dick. It just sometimes happened.

“I’m singing at an event in a few days and they have –– rather last minute –– requested some covers as well as my original songs. So I’m learning them, or trying to.” She explained, already forming a rather bad relationship with the song she was currently trying to learn.

image

“Seeing as I’m not looking to get arrested for petty theft: not tonight,” Olivia said with a smirk of her own. She could have added that taking the power cable away hadn’t put a stop to Lucie’s nightly practicing. In fact, at some point Lucie started to get around her by using headphones. Then, Olivia flipped the breaker to her room at random intervals throughout the night. There were no breakers that she could access now, so this would have to do.

“It’s alright. I sleep like shit anyways,” Olivia shrugged. She nodded towards the keyboard peeking out in the background. It wasn’t the one she remembered, which meant this one was louder. “What event and what covers? It’s not like Bob Dylan songs is it?” she asked, her distaste apparent in her voice; Bob Dylan may have been a great, but Olivia’s experience with him was recent and his voice was not what it once was.

Staring down his mug of black coffee, probably cold by now, Ford willed himself to find something to do. Fingers held the handle tight enough to feel secure there wouldn’t be a drop. Dragging his feet, he looked around his empty shop. It was still early enough that he didn’t mind. Ford wasn’t the biggest fan of busy hours, so he’d tried to take full advantage of the peace and quiet. A quiet jangle broke his focus on the framed black and white photo of back in the day Maywood. Stifling a yawn, Ford hid his face behind the mug, hair flying as he shook off the tiny sigh that his throat made as he exhaled. “Mornin’,” he tilted his chin up. He didn’t bother with the niceties. Nobody cared for them, especially him. Five minutes of mindless wandering and constant yawning, his heart jumped before his brain could comprehend what was happening. “The fuc—what was that?” He asked nobody in particular as he walked towards the vicinity of the crash. Surfboards were lopsided and the offender, though probably accidental, seemed to be half buried. Murder by surfboards. That would’ve made a good headline for the press. A snort escaped his nose as he extended a hand towards the hopeful patron. “Ya know, there’s a thing called customer service.”

How Olivia got tasked with watching her nephews was beyond her. As it stood, her tolerance for children was low. Her tolerance for bad children? Non-existent. Allie’s brood of five was a handful, so when she lost the eldest three to the shoreline Olivia was more than happy to watch them from the inside of the surf shop as the youngest two looked for surf wax.

Olivia should have known that trusting the youngest two to go through the aisles was a mistake, though. At the sound of a crash, Olivia begrudgingly looked away from the window and turned to scowl at her nephews. As a snort came from her side, she glanced over. Her nephews at least had the courtesy to look sheepish at the shop’s owner. “Sorry, they’re climbers,” she explained, placing one of the surfboards on the rack, “Can you point them in the direction of the surf wax while I help?”

OPEN TO: everyone

LOCATION: the story book

Nancy’s finger trailed across the spines of the books as she walked between the shelves, trying to find something to read. It had been a while since she picked up a book, but she wanted to get back into it. The only trouble was, every book was interesting, and she had no idea where to start. Her eyes fell on someone with an open book in their hands, and she sidled up to them.

“You look like you know a thing or two about reading. Recommend me a book,” she said confidently, not phrasing her words as a question.

image

Despite being a mediocre student, Olivia did enjoy reading on her own terms. Growing up, she always found something more worthy of her spare time. It wasn’t until she hit her late twenties that her idea of a “worthy” use of time flipped from going out to the club to spending more time in the comfort of her own home. Or going out in the daylight to explore her surroundings. The Story Book was one place on her list for the day, she just cracked open the spine of Paula Hawkins Into the Water when someone sidled up to her. Olivia arched a brow, “What kind of books do you like? I’m not into highbrow literature as a fair warning.”

Sofie nodded softly in understanding, splitting the scone in half so she could offer the other to her friend. She made a face at her words and shook her head. “More like he’d give me crap for not paying more attention, the guy is in security so he chooses every opportunity to drill in the importance of being aware of my surroundings and all that jazz. But if you’re brother says that again, you should hit him like I taught you. Its just a scone, they aren’t even that big”

image

“Is your brother in town? I can’t remember if you told me or not,” Olivia asked. Her and Sofie, though friends, hadn’t spoken in too much detail about their families. Olivia preferred it that way, but as her mother said, whenever she had an inch she’d try to take a mile -- unless it was the scone they were sharing. Olivia took a bite out of her half, smiling as the dough melted on her tongue. “My little brother’s an asshole. It’s genetic,” she shrugged, “He only stops if you ignore him. Classic little bully.”

“Damn now would be a great time to ask for a favor or something using said dimples but I’m shit outta ideas–Any suggestions?” he joked.  His smile and overall looks had gotten him out of lot of trouble, but into even more.  But most of all he just liked to think that people could tell when a smile was genuine, which his almost always was, and responded to that.  And from his memory of limited interactions with Olivia, he thought he had least always gotten a smile back.  A surprising amount of people treated Matty and his family as the help when they arrived to fix whatever needed fixing or start a new project, rather than people with skills the patron obviously did not possess, but Olivia had always seemed nice enough.

Although, Matty had to admit to himself, he had been young and hormonal and wasn’t exactly paying attention to if Olivia or her family had been nice, and had been much focused on just seeing if he could grab the attention of the older girl.  He was always a slut for attention, that was true.

“Nah.” he responded at her questioning of Alex.  “ Alex is actually really supportive, It’s me who’s the tough critic, I always end up scrubbing something before it even gets to her.”  And if he was being honest, despite Olivia’s positive remarks on the food, he’d probably end up finding something wrong with it as well.

“—But enough about me, you’ve been back for what, like a bit?  What’re you doing these days?”

image

“Not even an inkling of an idea. You’ll just have to get creative,” Olivia joked back. This was the most she ever talked to Matty. Growing up, she was always distracted by other things. Like boys in her grade, but she’d be lying if she hadn’t noticed the little things he used to do to get her attention. If people called her a flirt growing up, then he was a Casanova. Even back when he was a boy to match his boyish looks, watching Matty was like watching a peacock preen at the zoo

“Sounds like you should be kinder to yourself,” Olivia told him as she took another bite of the slider on her plate. At the question, she lifted up her napkin to cover her mouth while she finished chewing. Some of her mother’s nagging had its desired effects.

“About eight months now,” she said, then placed her napkin back on the table. “I’m just splitting my time between work and play. I’m usually at Spaology, but one of my afternoons had an emergency. Kid got the flu. Nothing very ground-breaking. How’s the family, I heard they moved?”

Lucie was a night owl, that was for sure. Once the sun had set and she had had a drink or a smoke, that’s when her muse came out to play. And tonight was no exception. It was 3am, not that she noticed and she was hammering away at her piano keys, lost in the melody and singing at the top of her lungs. Music was her therapy. Plus, she also had a setlist to learn for an upcoming gig and some of the songs were trickier to play than others. Yes, she could use a backing track but that wasn’t her style.

“Fuck!” She cursed as she made the same mistake on the same part of the song that she had made at least twenty times in a row. Taking a deep breath and a swig of her drink, she attempted it again, determined to nail it.

“Once upon a time in a faraway kingdom, man made up a story, said that I should believe him –– go and tell your white knight that he’s handsome in hindsight, but I don’t want the next best thing, so I sing––”

Just as she was about to hit the section she had messed up so many times, Lucie heard three loud knocks at her door. She stopped and stood up from her piano, wondering who the hell was pounding on her door at this time. She pulled open her door fiercely, ready to yell at the person that was bothering her when she was met with Olivia, the girl who used to babysit her.

“It’s three?” Was the first thing the brunette said, raising her eyebrows. “Shit.” Even though Lucie was a fraction taller than the other girl, in this moment, she felt like Liv towered over her, especially with the daggers being shot in her direction.

image

Tabby Cat jumped in Olivia’s arms as a curse broke through the silence. When the door opened, she braced herself for an argument. Instead, Lucie surprised her and paused. The surprise on her neighbor’s face was made evident by the arch of her brows. Olivia mirrored Lucie’s expression before nodding. It was definitely three a.m., since she laid in bed for the past hour listening to Lucie sing and hammer away on her piano. Just like old times.

“Yes. It’s three, and you’re lucky it’s me and not the cops coming over for a noise complaint,” she nagged. Tabby Cat meowed his agreement. They weren’t the only people in the building, and one of their neighbors worked at the hospital. Truthfully, Olivia was surprised he hadn’t stalked down the hallway to complain. “What the hell are you practicing for that you’re up at three a.m?” Olivia asked, curiosity outweighing her annoyance -- at least Lucie was surprised by the time rather than ambivalent.

Eden had never been pretentious about her art. She knew that was good, sure, at least to her. But art was subjective and what she liked, everyone else might not. So she tried to stay as neutral as possible through all of it, through interviews and greeting people. There of course laid any underlying nervousness that she couldn’t shake, a fear that things would fall apart,  or that someone would hate her work so much they made a big deal about it, so she kept her fingers crossed, and a smile on her face.  She was still lucky for the turn out, no matter what, even if no one bought anything.

When the two shot glasses of tequila she ordered were finally set in front of her she let out a soft and relieved thank you to the bartender.  She grabs one, but stops in her tracks when someone speaks to her, and she smiles, genuine, eyes lighting up as they always do when she’s talking to someone, excited and friendly. “Oh they’re definitely both for me, I’m selfish like that. Though if you’d like to join me,” she says as she gestures towards the bar. “Oh,” and she blushes, shaking her head and crinkling her nose. “That’s so sweet of you, thank you. Do you have a favorite?” she ask, and she’s not trying to be cocky, but she always likes to hear why people like certain pieces.

image

“Not selfish. Self-loving,” Olivia said as she took a seat next to Eden. She hadn’t wanted a shot anyways, and was relieved she didn’t have to politely reject any offer. Her clutch just hit the counter when one of the bartenders swished by to take her order. Olivia was just finished asking for a Long Island iced tea when Eden asking what her favorite was. Olivia smiled at the flush on the artist’s face, and nodded in the direction of a work hanging above one of the sofas. “That one. I’m a fan of jewel tones. What about you? Do you have a favorite, or is it like asking a mother to pick her favorite child -- although, I do think mother’s have a favorite child.”

“If it makes you feel better it’s because it’s my favorite too, and not a lot of people order it.  So I wonder what that says about our tastes.” he offered with a light shrug  “Although, I make it so I’m biased and I think it renders us to be those blessed with mature palettes.”  The last bit was accompanied by a crack of a smile, a sign that he didn’t take it that seriously.  “But Joseph, Joe, J, pretty much anything other than Joey or JJ.”  He had sworn once he heard her name it would’ve clicked for him but there was nothing, synapses firing blank on all cylinders.

It was slow enough that everyone else had been taken care of, so he figured he could spare a few more moments in an attempt to see if he could find out something else that might help make sense of her identity.

“What do you do that’s got you out here drinking alone after work?” he questioned with a raised brow, clocking the scrubs.  “Doctor?  Vet?  Nurse?  Something else incredibly stressful?”

image

“I like the way you think, Joe. I’m going to include ‘mature palette’ in the ‘other’ section of my resume,” Olivia said before taking a sip of her drink. He truly had remembered her order. Half the time, she couldn’t even remember her own order beyond vaguely describing some of its tastes. Luckily for her, the bartenders could put two and two together.

Olivia laid her glass down at the question. As he guessed, she regarded him with a grin. ‘Doctor? Vet? Nurse? Something else incredibly stressful?’ Her mother wished, Olivia thought. With a shake of her head, Olivia shrugged off the left side of her cardigan to flash the embroidered “Spaology” and her name tag underneath. “Not quite as fancy, or loaded with student debt,” she said, lightly shimmying the cardigan back into place, “I’m a massage therapist and a certified esthetician. It’s only stressful if you consider taking away the aches, and wrinkles from the House Wives of Hopewell to be a noble pursuit.”

“So nostalgia, then?” Edgar couldn’t imagine moving back to a place simply because there were memories there. France was home, would always be, but Edgar doubted that he’d move back there. At least, not while Xavier was still alive. Maybe after, he’d return home. “What’s that been like? Homecoming I mean. Does it feel biblical, like the Prodigal coming back, or has it been a major let down?”

image

Olivia almost laughed at the word ‘nostalgia.’ Aside from a handful of friends from high school, nostalgia wasn’t quite the word she would use to describe growing up in Maywood. At the question, Olivia tilted her head to the side to consider the Prodigal. “Mm, a little bit of both if I’m being honest. It’s been a celebration for old friends. For my parents and I, things are chilly,” she shrugged, “But that’s better than arguing, so I’ll take it.”

“I’ll have to have them made for the next time we go on a class trip, then,” Oliver joked. “I’ll even have yours embroidered with the word ‘pal.’” Self deprecating humor was something that Oliver was good at. Especially when it came to all the ways working with kids had impacted the way he interacted with adults. “Is it sad that I’m looking forward to it?”

“Hey!” There was mock outrage in his voice over her judgment of his iced tea. “I was waiting for you,” he continued. “And trying to decide if I wanted a girly drink or if I wanted to be manly and drink something utterly disgusting.” Ollie Oxen-Free. Oliver snorted at that. “Did the marble make a reappearance? I’m thinking of getting a ferret, but I don’t know if they’re allowed as pets in Maine. I figure they’d be more rewarding than working with teenagers all day, but less needy than a dog.”

image

“Deal. Make sure you put ‘Old Sport,’ on yours, though. It’s only fair,” Olivia said. She rested her chin in her hand and smiled up at Ollie. Sometimes, she wondered what high school would have been like if there was someone like him working there. He was a friendly face in a crowd, and a lighthearted joke on a bad day. Maybe, someone like him would have encouraged her to strive for more, to look deeper at her hobbies, or maybe someone would have said something about what was right under their noses. That was all too deep to say in the middle of their usual playfulness, which was only made obvious by his mock outrage.

“Obviously, a girly drink. They have more alcohol, but do a great job at tricking you. Less tab, more fun,” Olivia said as she craned her neck to get a look for the bartenders. She looked over at the mention of ferret with a laugh. Of all the potentially illegal things to wonder about, of course, Ollie wondered about ferrets. “I would just do it. Who’s going to squeal on you for having a ferret? And even if they did, what are they going to do? Arrest you?”

It was a pleasant surprise to see Olivia, a smile finding it’s way on her face nearly right away at the sight of her friend. “New flavors? I think that will definitely have to be the choice I’m going to make then.” Because Natalia knew how much her friend liked her coffee and she probably knew what was best, to begin with. She leaned into the person behind the counter to give her order and then looked back at her friend. “How have you been? It has been quite some time since we saw each other. Do you have time to sit down with the coffee now?”

image

“I recommend the Tres Leches flavor shot, I had it the other day and it was like drinking a milkshake,” Olivia grinned. She rarely went for sweet coffee, but there was a time and a place for it. Just like there was a time and a place for sweet wine. Olivia placed her order after Nat, and tilted her head at the question. “For you? I always have time, and I’ve been alright. Kat and I are rooming together and things are good. How’s the hospital? Last time we got to sit down you had just started there, yeah?”

Elena looked up from her laptop as she finished the last orders she needed for the Carrington wedding, she closed it carefully before sitting it off to the side. “I do actually. I just finished up.” Smiling sweetly, she gestured for Olivia to come in. “It’s fine you don’t have to pay me to hang out with me. Although when she does have kid number six I expect to be listed as her event planner. I mean who else could make a shower for kid number six as magical as I can.” She told her with a laugh and took one of the cups of coffee from her. “So what brings you in today? You know besides wanting to see my beautiful face.”

image

“Don’t tell me. Tell her. Although, after six kids I couldn’t imagine she’d need anything out of a shower,” Olivia said with a grin. She lightly plucked at a loose thread on her jeans now that Elena freed up one of her hands. At the question, Olivia looked up with a deadpan expression. “I think the latter is a perfectly good reason to be here, but if I have to have another reason: retail therapy,” she said, lifting her purse up for emphasis, “I got paid yesterday and I’ve been in the mood for changing up my wardrobe for spring. What say you? Are you in or out?”

anger was a familiar feeling in her bones.    She tried to disbar it,    diluting it with positive thoughts and things she wanted to tack onto her to-do list,     but it always came up short.    Her rage had always been a problem for her.    It would twist inside her belly and turn friends into enemies quick.     Just like Nel and her,    huh?    She had an encounter earlier with the bloke,    teeth barred as he barked about her cleaning the last of her supplies out of their shared apartment.    She agreed before clasping her phone on the dresser,    so he would be forced to hang up herself.    And then started the texts.    They rolled in one after another.    Some flirty,    some desperate,    some cruel. She stopped reading them after an hour in.

image

Instead,    her fingers gripped tightly around the fridge door as she slammed it shut with a puff.    “    We gotta clean out the last of my stuff at the old place.    Nel is riding my ass again.    Think you can manage?    ”

At the name “Nel,” Olivia resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Although, she never met Nel, the amount of stories she heard from both Kat and their old friends, Darla and Dan, Olivia wasn’t fond. She also wasn’t surprised that he was the source of Kat’s pissy fit, but knew to keep her expression passive. Tabby Cat sprawled out across her keyboard as if to tell her to get out of the house and off the sofa.

“Why doesn’t he just bring the stuff to you if it’s such a problem?” she asked, lightly plucky at the tip of her cat’s ear. The cat shook its head, collar jingling, and Olivia looked up at her friend’s face. “Okay. I’ll go with you. Is he gonna be there?”

“Exactly. Why not enjoy a favorite when you can.” she commented. Sutton looked back the choices before looking around at the line they were in. She was a bit confused at the request but didn’t mind helping out. “Yeah, sure.” Sutton stayed quiet for a minute. “Trying to avoid someone huh?” she asked, more so out of understanding rather then curiosity.

image

The look of confusion on the other woman’s face was understandable. Olivia crossed her arms at the question and nodded. “Yeah: my mother. We’re in the middle of a cold war,” she explained, knowing full well that most people didn’t understand the dynamic of daughter and mother. Olivia also didn’t care. Just as long as people understood that she and her mother were not looking for a Hallmark reunion. “Well, not really in the middle, I’m just trying to eat ice cream in peace, y’know?”

Siblings Groupchat

[TXT from Allie] :: Mom said she hasn’t seen dad since 8am this morning, have either of you seen him?

[TXT from Eugene] :: I’m not dad’s keeper. He’s a grown man

[TXT from Allie] :: Wow. Livvy can you go look for him?

When the texts originally came in, Olivia was on her way the grocery store. She was in the middle of following her GPS, halfway towards the next city over when the chime tolled. At first, Olivia ignored the request from her older sister. Then, the phone call came and with it a rolling sense of guilt. ‘Dad’s almost seventy, Olivia,’ Allie had practically gasped. Then, she reminded her of their father’s bad knee as if she hadn’t grown up with the same father all these years.

Now, Olivia was driving alongside the walking trails on the outskirts of Maywood, a few muttered curses slipped from her tongue. Leave it to her father, quiet and unassuming, to slip out of the house and cause panic in their little family. Why wouldn’t he just leave a note? Or remember his phone? These were all the thoughts she had as she wound through a series of backroads laced through trees. She finally got a glimpse of her father sitting on a bench with another man. Olivia pulled off to the shoulder and got out of the car glaring.

@wolfnovak

“Dad,” she called out, her father’s nonchalant wave made her scowl deepen. “Did you walk all the way over here? You know you shouldn’t be on your leg for that long,” she paused as her father laughed, and looked off at the man to the side with a squint, “Aren’t you the Sheriff? Is he giving you trouble?”

Sofie ran a hand through her hair and nodded softly in understanding. It was smart. Not giving your address out to strangers. You never know who you are running into. She wouldn’t generally have offered but she did feel bad ruining her shoes. Coffee wasn’t the easiest to get stains out of. “Right I understand. I’m just sorry I ruined them. I really should have been paying more attention. My brother would have a fit over this.” She shakes her head motioning for her to keep it. “Its really no biggie, I’m not even that hungry. I just get it out of habit I guess and the owner knows my order. You’d be doing me a favor, I doubt I’d finish it honestly”

image

“It’s okay, really. And I guess it’s good that I’m not your brother,” Olivia said with a nonchalant shrug. Olivia now regretted the flash of teeth that started this conversation with how nice she was being. When she refused to take her breakfast back, Liv sighed. The trashcan nearby would be the next place the little pastry would go since she wouldn’t get any enjoyment out of eating it now. “Split it in half, then,” she insisted with a nod of her own, “Your brother would have a fit over the shoes, and mine would be calling me a cow for eating your scone all by myself.”

“Honestly, I’m not trying to be an asshole here but if I had a working mute button, don’t you think I would have tried that?”  Honestly, if he was sitting there, freaking out about the noise but hadn’t tried the mute button before she suggested it, he would’ve punched himself in the face.  He shoved the laptop away from himself slightly in frustration before dragging his hands down his face.

“This is what I get for constantly repairing a 8 year old lap top.  It was going to turn on me eventually.” he sighed.  The things hadn’t even been new when he had gotten it in school, a hand-me-down from a sibling from their time in college.  At this point, so many parts had been replaced, Leo felt very much like Frankenstein, and it his monster.  The thought did occur to him that all the money he had spent repairing it could have probably bought him a new laptop, but he didn’t want to dwell on that thought, for fear of frustrating himself even further.

“Sorry I snapped.” he apologized, knowing that he had practically bitten the head off a stranger who for all intents and purposes had just been trying to help.  “–Can I…I don’t know, buy you a coffee or something?”  Did he really want to?  No, but it was hard to go against the binary his mother had coded in him in the form of manners.

image

A wry smile crossed Olivia’s face as soon as the word “honestly,” left his mouth. Anytime someone began a sentence with that word it was to try to soften whatever they were going to say. To his credit, the ad finally must have reached its time limit after all the time he spent grouching at her. In the process of tuning out his rhetorical questions, Olivia recognized his voice. Her neighbor. The one that Tabby Cat made it a mission to bother on a regular basis. This made the entire situation all the more amusing.

Olivia rested her chin in her hand as her neighbor rambled about an eight year old laptop. She could probably come up with a joke to say, but thought better of it, pausing to sip on her coffee to hide her grin. At least he seemed distracted from the embarrassment his laptop caused, that was something.

“It’s alright, can’t say I would have acted differently.” she shrugged. It was a lie, but she wasn’t looking for an argument. He did always return Tabby Cat to her, and she wasn’t trying to light a fire under him out of fear he’d change his mind about being a decent neighbor. Olivia looked towards the bakery counter, eyes looking down the little pastry trays. “A scone would be nice. Haven’t had breakfast, yet.”

Starter for: @livvylcc Location: Midnight Brewery

At least once a week, Joseph liked to get behind the bar.  Most of his time was spent in the actual brewery, and during the morning, so he rarely got to interact with customers and find out how the actual product was being received.  Thus, his bar nights.  He also liked to see if he could catch any familiar faces, knowing that a business’ foundation was built on regulars.  One face in particular stuck out to him and he couldn’t exactly figure out why.

But he figured he’d find out tonight, as he saw her at the end of the bar, no drink in front of her.  He found it funny that he couldn’t remember why he knew her face, but could remember her drink.  Sliding it in front of her, he paused, before sticking out his hand.

“Joseph.” he offered, not only hoping that her name might spark his memory, but also finding it only polite to know someone’s name before he practically led an inquisition on how they were liking the beers he spent so much time formulating, tweaking, and making.

image

Olivia was never a beer girl. Call her basic, but she always preferred something that was heavy handed on the vodka and light on the juice. Even when she was a teenager living in Maywood, stealing alcohol from the gas station, beer was her least favorite. Since returning to town, she developed a little bit of a palette for a nice brew. In particular, one of the beers at Midnight Brewery was great with a plate of wings, and it was the only beer she liked at this point.

She was still in her work scrubs, a cardigan covering the embroidered Spaology on the top left corner, and looking to avoid going back to the apartment. Kat had a rehearsal, and it felt a little too early to call it a night. Drinking alone seemed particularly lonely, though, and she was trying to convince her brother to meet her to no response.

Olivia just finished rolling her eyes at her little brother’s lack of response when a glass scraped across the countertop. She looked down at the glass with an arch of her brow. “Liv. I’m not sure what this says about my drinking that you remember my order,” she said with a light grin, maybe she was drinking too much lately. Olivia paused to raise the glass, “To you, Joseph? Joe? Do you have a preference?”

Where : Cedar Creek, Maywood, ME

When : Present, May 2020

Sharing balcony to drink or smoke cigarettes with the kid you used to babysit was nothing short of strange. It didn’t matter how old Lucie was, twenties or not, Liv still saw the gangly twelve year old that needed to be carted off to the local dance studio regularly. Which was why listening to the all of the noise coming from Lucie’s apartment at three in the morning felt particularly annoying. It was too similar to having to fight with her to go to sleep all those years ago.

Liv also had a sleep condition and the noise wasn’t helping. She kicked open her front door with a glare, Tabby Cat dangling from her arms helplessly, and stomped down the hall. If Leo was in the building, he was probably going to hate her for what she was about to do.

Olivia reached Lucie’s front door and slammed the sole of her foot into the wood three times. She paused, waiting for the music to stop. Tabby Cat meowed in her arms.

“It’s three in the morning, Luc,” Olivia said, scowl deepening.

Starter for: Anyone Location: Siren’s Song @maywoodstarters

It wasn’t until later that afternoon that her shift would start, but that left her with enough time to quickly make her way over to the Siren’s Song to get herself some coffee. She was going to need a lot of it, like with every shift. Never had Natalia regretted her choice of becoming a surgeon and follow in her father’s footsteps. But that did not mean that it was hard work and that coffee would help a lot with that.

“I want to change things up for once and go for a different kind of coffee. Do you have any advice?”

While Olivia wasn’t sure if she was drinking to much after work, she could safely say that she was drinking too much coffee. A mean headache had a way of blooming behind her eyes if she went too long without another cup. She kept meaning to go back to the doctor’s to get looked at, but there was only so much time in the day, and she wasn’t a good planner. That was the excuse she gave herself as she slipped into Siren’s Song for the second time that day. She was debating on one or two shots of espresso when a familiar voice peeked over her shoulder. Olivia turned a little with an easy smile at the sight of Nat. “I like iced Americanos, but I don’t know what your usual is,” Olivia said, “I think they have some new flavor option too, that might be worth a shot.”
