Urban Witchcraft - Quick n’Dirty Coffee Correspondences
In my urban magic adventures I have found that some of the best quick & easy magic has been the passive magic you can employ in everyday urban rituals such as grabbing a cup of coffee.Urban Witchcraft is unique because our practices are defined by schedules and the quick pace of the city and the constant overflowing and conflicting energies we are in day in and day out. We don’t always have time to meditate intentions in the morning or to absorb peace from nature or take our time.
As a result I’ve developed very quick and simple magical rituals with my coffee. This is mostly geared for the coffee-shop pick up but can be adjusted for workplace kitchens and your own kitchen.
A few random notes first:
Recongize the power built up by becoming a regular at a coffee shop, the energy in your cup will be affected by familiarity and the energy signature you leave there and resonate with. Also staffers will remember you and it will add power to your drink.
Stir your coffee in a clockwise direction to promote prosperity and forward thought and action. However- if you are left handed stirring anti-clockwise will not have an negative affect.
If you need a boost of passive magic to work for a few days, pocket a packet of sugar or honey to use its magical properties passively or activate when needed.
While holding/fixing/stiring your coffee make sure to fill it with your intent for the next few hours for yourself, “I will have energy for my shift” “I will be confident in my interview” or “I will be charming on my date” fricking whatever.
The correspondences listed here are from my own experience as well as research but I highly encourage you to attribute any that you feel match your experience or reject those that don’t:
Coffee: Goes without saying, but energy is the big one. Positive industrious, social and academic energies are strengthened. Subtle self-healing and centering/grounding traits, especially if drank on the regular.
Milk: Nurturing energy. Good health, fulfilment and prosperity.
Cream: Abundance, wealth, Glamor.
Sugar: Attraction like a magnet for what you want (if you ask for it), focus, energy, abundance, glamor/likeability.
Honey: Sweetens words and sweetens others to you, helps to seal the deal on agreements/work/dates etc.
Chocolate: Self-love, healing, introspection, wish-making, manifesting.
Vanilla: Creativity, productivity, love (less romantic more passive),
Cinnamon: ‘Fierceness’ , confidence, energy, manifesting, prosperity
Nutmeg: Luck, confidence, creativity, prosperity and love
Of course you can get really indepth if you want to get into the nuances of these when it comes to espresso drinks and specialities and then tea lattes and everything else. Coffee magic really doesnt have any limits and is the modern and urban version of potions that we already use for magical affects without noticing.
Feel free to add anything!
Migraine Tincture
Supplies needed
-Solvent (i.e. 100 proof alcohol or vegetable glycerin) -quart sized glass mason jar -4 oz. fresh or 2 oz. of dried herbs
Ingredients
-3 parts lemon balm -2 parts feverfew -100 proof vodka to fill
Method
1. Measure your herbs depending on whether you are using fresh or dried herbs. 2. If using fresh herbs, chop until fine. 3. Add herbs to glass jar. 4. Pour solvent over herbs to fill the jar. The solvent should rise 1-2 inches above the herbs. 5. Place the lid on the jar and shake until the herbs are well combined. 6. Label jar with contents and date. 7. Set in a warm, sunny window and steep for 2-6 weeks, shaking daily. 8. Strain with a cheesecloth, compost the plant material, and place tincture in dark colored bottles for storage in a cool, dark place. The tincture should keep for up to 5 years.
Adult Dosage
At the sudden onset of migraine symptoms, begin taking ¼-½ a teaspoon of the tincture every 30 minutes to an hour until symptoms subside.
✨🕯 RECUMBENTIBUSS’S GLOW JAR 🕯✨
✨ Don’t have any candles to work with? Can’t have candles in your dorm/ home? Here’s a fun, witchy alternative to the light of your life! This method includes frosting glass to give light a glowing look inside of a jar-
✨ Get together a jar/bottle with frosted glass, and some tiny LED lights- You can find some good lights here, here, and here
… and here’s some bottles/ jars that you can get here, here, and here
✨ There are several ways you can frost glass. Believe it or not, you can frost glass with a special type of spray paint (Rust-Oleum manufactures a popular version). Applying the finish is easy. Apply a thin coat and let it dry. Apply additional coats, if you wish for great opacity. Being that the spray paint comes at a low cost, it’s worth a shot if you want to frost glass in your home. You can also frost glass by means of a window film. It’s actually non-adhesive and works via static cling. That means it’s forgiving: If you don’t get the application precisely right on the first try, you can start over pretty easily. First, thoroughly wash the surface to be frosted, using glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth. Next, combine water with a couple drops of dish detergent in a spray bottle. Then proceed to lightly spritz the glass before applying the window film. As you go, remove air bubbles with a squeegee.
✨ This use is super nice, because you could replace the color of the lights in the bottle if you want something specific to intent, and it provides a lot of light to envelope a space. It’s also, obviously, fire safe! I use this when I’m working in my dorm, and sometimes as a light that I can keep constantly running while I sleep. It’s really rewarding when you fix the bottles up yourself!
Sweet Relaxation Nervine Tincture
Take your jar and fill half of it with dry herb. Fill up rest of the jar with 100 proof vodka all the way to the top. Let it sit for a moon cycle (or 30 days), agitating it a bit every few days. When ready, separate herbs from alcohol using cheesecloth (being sure to squeeze everything out of the herbs – that’s the good stuff). You now have your tincture. Store in a cool, dark area, and shelf life is up to 3 years. Take as needed.
The nervine herbs I used for this tincture are the following:
Skullcap
Skullcap has a calming and relaxing effect on the body and can be used to promote sleep.
Kava Kava
Kava kava is a powerful plant whose root is used for its sedative properties.
Oatstraw
Oatstraw is known to nourish the nervous system.
Damiana
Damiana, an ancient aphrodisiac of the Mayan people, is known to tone and restore the reproductive organs – increasing blood flow and relaxing the muscles.
Lemon Balm
Aromatic lemon balm is a calming agent for reducing stress and anxiety.
One Simple Exercise to Increase your Intuition
Intuition: the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.
We are all intuitive beings and we are all born with the same intuitive abilities, it is just that some people have had more practice.
Your intuition already lives within you, it is already strong, and it is already willing to guide you.
Learning to develop your intuition is truly an invaluable tool that can help you make decisions and can bring you clarity when logic alone is not enough.
You need not acquire any skills to enhance your intuition except a little patience and trust.
Meditation is one of the best ways to put you in the space of receiving intuitive guidance. This is because when your mind is still, you have the ability to filter out unnecessary thoughts in order to access that quiet, still, intuitive mind.
Another great exercise for increasing your intuition however, is a technique that is called Blind Reading.
Here is what to do:
Part 1
Take three blank cards and write: Yes, No & Maybe on one side. Turn them over and shuffle them around so you have no idea which card is where.
Still your mind, then ask a question that you know the answer to such as- “Is my name is Judy”. Close your eyes and place your hands over the cards one at a time.
Notice the different energy or feeling your receive when your hand is on top of each card.
Select the card that you felt the strongest pull to. Keep practicing until you learn what is your intuitive voice, and what is just your mind.
Part 2
When you feel that you have a good understanding of what your intuitive voice sounds and feels like, you can begin asking questions that you do not know the answer to.
Got something that is bothering you? Take the cards and write down three possible situations- one on each card.
Turn them over and repeat the exercise, see which possibility you are more drawn to- perhaps your intuition is trying to tell you something?
Blind Readings are a great way to develop your intuition and to discover what your intuitive voice sounds like. Again, with more practice you will soon become a natural at learning what your intuition is trying to tell you.
