Idk if it’s already been said or if I said this before and I just forgot , but it’s even sadder when you consider that it’s actually been implied that the real hikaru liked Yoshiki back, and we see that from chapter 1

Him literally not showing his expression to yoshiki while repeating to him that he should get a girlfriend and that he will get one just fine only for him thinking about yoshiki’s happiness even in his final moments

There are a lot of great moments and panels in HGSN but my absolute favourite would have to be

He's not trying to think rationally, he doesn't try to play dumb or brush it off. All he can think of is this echoing question and all he can feel is fear. It's kill or be killed, this is going to change his reality in a way he's not ready for and he cannot take that chance. He's just a boy, why can't he just be a boy for a little while longer?

This was the last memory Hikaru thought of before he died. Not a memory of Yoshiki smiling at him or even looking at him at all. Instead a memory of Hikaru watching Yoshiki while at school without Yoshiki realising.

And this seemingly mundane memory affected Hikaru enough that it’s the last thing he thought of while he died
