Iceland

There is a popular misconception that Viking explorers gave Iceland its name as a trick. According to the misconception, they saw that Iceland is a nice place, and to try to discourage other people from settling it, they gave it an unappealing name so they could keep it for themselves. (The island was actually named Iceland because the explorers saw ice there.)
