From A Queer Elder
From a queer elder…
Being queer isn’t supposed to be palatable to non-queers.
We don’t tick little squares on a checklist of “queer enough”, we obliterate the checklist.
We defy societal norms that say our bodies, families or relationships have to look a certain way.
Queer is the insult we took away from oppressors. We’re here, we’re queer, get used to it.
The people who hate us will hate us regardless of how palatable we make ourselves.
Stop licking fascist boots by policing queers who are queer in different ways than you.
Oh, someone is bi/pan trans lesbian with he/him pronouns? So what! They’re welcome on the rainbow. Their identity doesn’t have to make sense to you, it has to make sense to them.
Our identities don’t make sense to non-queers. They see us as unnatural and disgusting, so why are you turning around and crapping that same garbage out at your own community??
Once you drive the visible queers underground, the same people who hate us all will target you next. Nobody will defend you because you drove away everybody who would have.
Enough already!
— sincerely, an old queer.

I know people say men are feigning incompetence when they can’t find certain items in the grocery, and I’m sure it’s true, but just now I sent my husband to the store for some things and realized that my grocery is set up very strange.
“Please get me this specific brand of tea. It is not in the tea and coffee aisle though it’s in a whole other aisle for some reason.”
“And also this specific makeup item. It’s not in the makeup aisle though, it’s hanging up on a stand next to floral. Idk why.”
“And these biscuits. They aren’t by the biscuits or candies tho. They’re with international stuff on the other side of the store somehow.”
I've been reading many lovely books recently, and I wish I could be more coherent when talking about them with people. I want to be able to say what I liked about the book, identify common tropes in it, be able to summarize it instead of rambling on for ten minutes and still getting nowhere with what it's about. I'd love to feel comfortable typing up reviews to leave on books I love. I want to be able to think critically about them, but I feel like I missed that part of my education (I was a terrible student in school, so maybe that's my fault). Somehow, despite how much I read I just feel so... dumb.
ppl are like ooh succession spoilers are gonna be unavoidable meanwhile i have seen like 2 screenshots from the show over the course of its entire existence
And another thing. My poor heart, I'd forgotten that Boromir dies in the first film. I was sitting there silently, unable to look away from the screen, throat locked up, tears streaming down my face, realizing that his last interaction with Frodo would be his temptation for the ring overtaking him, that he fought to save Merry and Pippin and had to watch as the orcs took them away...
If you were wondering, no I'm not okay. ;_;
I just had a lovely impromptu movie night with a friend, and we watched Fellowship of the Ring. I have not watched that movie all the way through in probably ten to fifteen years. Let me tell y'all.
It was an experience. Hearing the gorgeous music in its original context, seeing the beautiful landscapes laid out in so many shots and being brought along this roller coaster of the beginning of their adventure, watching the fellowship come together and take care of one another and fight for each other and keep each other going.
Just... so much. I have so much love for this film, and it's a tragedy it took me this long to rewatch it.
