Also this doesn't technically have any spoilers, but a lot of the personality and feelings I gave 9S would make more sense if you've played the game to get the first canon ending (idk where the anime is at to know if this has been touched on).

9S

He's gone through so much, he's killed so many. Although can you count machines as something to feel guilty about killing? They don't have souls.

And yet, he shouldn't have a soul either. He knows he feels things but thinks it's some black box issue or something to make him seem more like the humans he's sworn to protect. But he still feels things, particularly strong things towards you and he doesn't know what to do. They feel nice and make him happy, but with all that's happened, does he deserve happiness?

9S has caved and told you these feelings and how he's handling them, or how he's unable to handle them. And your response? "Yes, these last few years have been a living hell, but... I'd live them a thousand times over if it meant you being safe and happy."

That phrase you told him has stuck. It goes through his head when he kills more machines, when he's running around to help the resistance, when he's trying to find A2. Those words have stuck to him and made him feel things so intensely. He wants to tell you the same, but feels unable to. Not yet. But when he has finally achieved his goal, then he will try to give you all the happiness and safety you deserve.

“this isn't where i'm supposed to be…”

9S still remembered the last moments before his old body got blown into pieces. he was fighting a machine and was being careless, leading to him dying and reawakening in his new body. only that this body wasn't one of the number 9 models.

9S looked around the room he had awoken in. the rooms in the bunker all looked alike, but he still knew what his room looked like. and this wasn't his room!

“9S–!”

the door to the room swung open and the one who entered was… 9S! or rather, a 9S model, that wasn't the original 9S. because 9S was 9S. right?

“y-you're inside my body–! and… i'm in yours–!”

9S stared at the other him for a moment, taking in those words. without saying a word, he rose from the bed and walked up to the window, to get a glimpse of his reflection. and that's when he realized whose body he was in. and who was in his body.

“w-wait, y/n–!?”

9S’ cheeks turned red at the realization. the person who was in his body was his crush! and he was in your body!

thoughts ran through his head, trying to think about how this could've happened. but he didn't need to think for too long, as he had the sneaking suspicion that he remembered where he made a mistake.

when he was uploading his consciousness, he had just been talking to 2B about you. he was distracted and thinking of you at that moment, so he must've accidentally clicked on your profile instead of his own.

“nines…?”

“oh man… this is all my fault–!”

9S sunk his face into his hands, clearly embarrassed about his mistake.

“what do you mean, your fault?”

you stepped closer, still wearing his face. it was odd for 9S to look at himself and hear his own voice, when he knew who it really was. the cute android he had been crushing on for quite a while now, but always was too shy to approach. but this really was the worst way to spend time with you…

“i– well, i might've… made a mistake when handling my data. i was distracted… so this is all my fault…”

9S still hid his face behind his hands. he was too flustered to look at you – or at himself. he had thought about how he'd approach you so many times, but now he was stuck in this situation. you probably hated him now and would never want to date him, nor be friends with him…

“hey, it's alright…”

you kneeled down next to 9S, smiling at him softly, while you carefully removed his hands from his face.

“i'm not angry, i promise–! i mean… i suppose half of the blame lies with me too… if i hadn't mixed up my data too, i would've never ended up in your body”

oh, right. that's when 9S realized that you too must've done something to transfer your consciousness into his body. perhaps, your two stories were more alike than he realized…

“a-anyways–!”

you got up again, reaching out one hand towards 9S. you didn't want to get into the embarrassing details right now. and you two still had something to do.

“i believe we should deal with this whole body situation now, don't you think? as cute as i think your body is, i'd like to have my own back soon…”

9S nodded softly, getting up as well.

“right, we should do that right now–!”

the two of you made your way to the door, ready to leave, when 9S let your words run through his head one more time and realized something. something that made his cheeks turn red.

the two of you were convinced you did a good job at hiding your relationship from everyone else, but since the first time 9S accidentally called you "honey" in front of everyone, they all knew you were dating

2B had just told them all to keep quiet about it and not tell command about your relationship, so the two of you could stay together…

Some time ago I read a fic that raised this idea but did not delve into it, and it had been in my mind for a long time so i decided to do it myself!!I loved how it ended so i hope you enjoy it as much as I did!! 🖤

A long time ago an strange plague scourged humanity and triggered a deadly disease, a big group of humans started the Gestalt Project in hopes to preserve humanity, putting humans soul in another container (that doesn't went too well). A part from the humans didn't completely trusted in the Gestalt Project so those humans started another projects with their lasts hopes, and as the last resource they put the people that wasn't infected yet in cryogenic sleep waiting for a better time where the threat of this disease no longer exist

However, this side project was almost completely forgotten and when the rumors of the humans who had survived were in the moon began to spread the one of the other humans in cryogenic sleep started to spread too, however this humans were taken just as a mere rumor and were leave there since the creators of YoRHa didn't had evidence of this project

It isn't too weird to think that you will be found some day, and that days seem to finally happen thanks to the YoRHa unit 9S, a scanner type that has been wandering around to collect information. Is probably that he is already with 2B, since the two of them had different missions around the land, and suspicious facilities of which they have no registration is something that is necesary to investigate

While they were trying to decipher what is the purpose of all of that they accidentally active the system of one of cryogenic chambers, starting the protocol of reactivation, imediatly getting themselfs on guard, ready to fight in case they need it, watching carefuly as the chamber open slowly only to reveal that inside of it was a human, you

As you slowly start to incorporate, with slow movements and trying to sit down 9S is the first one to react, guarding his sword and quickly going to your side, gently helping you sit down but still unable to say something, 2B doesn't waste more time before approaching to you too but still in shock. Non of them know what to do or what to say, even when the whole purpose of the androids is to protect humans, to fight to bring them a better future they had never actually met a human, an inmense curiosity and still a protective instinct immediatly fills both

If you react by being afraid of them they understand, both immediatly take an step back and quickly introduced themselfs, 9S is the one explaining the situation while 2B just comfirm the information, promising that the last thing they will do is to harm you. In the other hand if you are more comfortable with them or even excited to meet them 9S quickly match you energy, as well they don't waste much time to introduce themselfs but 9S is almost imediatly asking about you (just like an excited child receiving a new toy), while 2B try to calm both not wanting to overwhelm you or go against the protocol if there is even one

Once you are comfortable and ready 9S helps you get out or the cryogenic chamber while 2B contact the commander to ask what to do, however even the commander was surprised, in all the information she has about humans there isn't anything about some being in cryogenic sleep (or at least nothing that was for certain) and yet you could be the only human still alive, the commander can't take any risks when it comes to you, so while she investigate all she can about it and come up with a plan she ordered to both to take care of you and protect you at all cost (she prefers to don't tell anyone about this for now, but at some point she will tell the news to everyone to boost the androids morale)

You will be scorted to the resistence camp and stay there, where Anemone imediatly accept you without ask and give you an own room for you. Everyone will be really curious about you and will want to approach to you but 2B and 9S, along with Anemone, are trying to don't overwhelm you, and, at the end, is Anemone, Devola and Popola who is mostly taking care of you when 2B and 9S aren't around

As well you will be able to meet Pascal and the complete village, but not without making sure you will be comfortable in there before hand (and until 2B and 9S finally trust them, what Pascal completely understand), in the resistence everyone has similar appearance to yours so is little risk for you to freak out, but with Pascal everyone are machines so they first need to make sure you know that and you are comfortable (even so 2B will be paying close attention to everyone)

The only time 2B and 9S leave you alone is when they have a mision and they know that there is the risk to find ostile machines and that you could be in danger, so in those moment they leave you in the resistence. However is more likely that at some point you will want to explore the world too and you will be able to convice them to let you do it, 2B will be hesitant to do so and my even try to ask for permission to the commander while 9S is a little more willing to do it since they will be by your side (and he understand your curiosity), and is better if you just talk to them about your wish than trying to sneak out of the resistance camp because if they came and you aren't there for them will be like the end of the world, wasting no time and imediatly rush out to try to find you (what won't really take them much time), even when they aren't mad at you they are worried sick and will scold you for it

Whenever you go with them is more likely that 9S is the one leading and talking with you because 2B is too worried watching her surroundings, wanting to be ready for anything that could happen, however if you try to talk to her and include her in your little excursion she will start to be more talktive too

As much as they know about their habilities and that they are completely capable of protecting you they can't help but feel anxious whenever you walk for somewhat unstable places or near machines, even the docile ones, also the more adventurous you are the more anxious and protective they are, if you are running and jumping around they try to stop you or at least to follow you as close as they can, every time you trip and fall they tent to overreact a little, even if you didn't hurt yourself

It may seem like they are overreacting but for them is just fair, they are androids, they have backups not only of their bodies but also of their minds and memories, and even with that they try to be careful and don't be impulsive, but you are unique, if something happens to you there is no way to bring you back, they can't put your mind in a backup and continue with their duty, and even if they manage to wake up other humans they won't be you

2B is the more worring and protective over you of the two of them, is just that she knows more than anyone else how important you are and your only existance represent a big hope for her about not having to do the true job she was created for, you give her hopes about not having to do what she hated the most and she wants to cling to that little hope as much as posible

At some point the news of the human that is traveling with the androids reach A2, and as much as she hates YoRHa and don't want to have anything with them in her programation is still the feeling of needing to protect humans, so she probably will try to sneak and meet you without the intervention of them, and since she isn't against you she will try to at least warn you about not trusting in YoRHa before having to go away

“Nines, where are you taking me?” I grumbled as my limbs nonchalantly carried my body as I proceeded to follow the white-haired android to our untold destination.

“You’ll see~” he purred in reply, adorably bounding about our hike.

Not gonna lie, I felt a little jealous by the boy’s everlasting energy… it must be entertaining being an artificial humanoid. Furthermore, it also must be a little boring at times.

Breathing softly, I halt in my steps, refusing to move any longer. It was at this point where I was tolerably tired, I mean, we’ve been traveling on foot for what seemed to be seven hours. Call me lazy, I just don’t care and I despise all things exercise.

“Mm? Oh, come on, (Y/n)! It’s barely just a few more miles away,” 9S pouted while I shook my head and my butt found a portion of ruins to set itself down on, “Do I have to carry you?”

Blinking, my orbs were fixed upon his unmasked features as I took his query into consideration. “Yes,” I answered plainly, a grin now upon my lips.

Without about word, my body was hoisted bridal style into his arms and he was already proceeding to walk. 

Eager aren’t we?

Our little adventure was quite tranquil… yet quite quiet. But, I didn’t mind the quietness of the air among us, it just enabled me to rethink of my history and how it placed me directly here, right in this moment.

When I originally arrived, I was terrified and very bewildered. I couldn’t remember much of what transpired in my life, nor how I even got here. Nevertheless, now thinking about it, I was quite satisfied that whatever occurred, occurred. Because, if it didn’t, I wouldn’t have met the love of my life… 9S.

Yes, after I got here, everything was quite absurd, but now things are subtle and tranquil. There are no more hostile machine lifeforms… and YoRHa is no longer exists.

I’ve got Nines all to myself…

“We here,” he expressed softly, placing me down on my feet which tore me out of my trance.

“The commercial facility?” I uttered, perplexed, “Why here?”

9S shot me a smirk, “It’s what’s underneath this.”

What?

Feeling quite simple-minded, he took my hand and escorted me to the—what I deemed was broken—elevator. Once he pushed the button and the doors open, he scooted me on inside before pushing the solitary button there.

“You’re going to love this, I have no doubt about it,” Nines murmured rather happily. Before the doors could open, he promptly planted his palms over my orbs and led me out a bit. “Okay, ready? One, two, three-”

Uncovering my eyes, I was met with a brilliant light of—maybe—over a thousand flowers. I suppose I was gazing at them like I was some kid in a candy store because I overheard 9S chuckle vividly.

“So, what do you think?”

“I… I love this place!” I eventually cracked, hopping up and down a bit before spinning on my heels to face him—only to have him tuck one of the numerous flowers behind my ear.

“I’m glad,” he beamed with surprisingly adoring orbs, “They’re called Lunar Tears, I imagined since you like looking at pretty things, that you would love these.”

Oh, Nines.

He held my hand once again, guiding me into the center of the patch, “Though… nothing is more fascinating than you.”

My mouth went dry a bit, shocked by his words.

’…nothing is more fascinating than you’.

I didn’t know what to respond, in truth, I didn’t know what to even do. It was like he broke me entirely—but, not in a bad way. “Thank you…” I ultimately mustered up, my eyes becoming now fascinated by the ground, “…for everything.”

Is it corrupt for me to love an android so much? To have my heart feel like it’s rupturing every time he’s near me or whenever I overhear his name? Probably not. However, I truly don’t want to destroy him… like when 2B had died in front of his orbs.

9S isn’t mentally okay right now… he just puts a mask on to make me feel content.

“You’re welcome,” he answered lastly, his voice appearing a bit complicated. “Hey… (Y/n), look at me.”

My head snapped up once he said those words, my eyes finding his. He seemed so lost—like he wasn’t there at all.

Was he reminiscing about what transpired? Or is he just gradually losing all emotion?

Before I could ask anything, he had seized my face tenderly as his lips led themselves to mine. Of course, I was overwhelmed, but, I instantly obtain my thoughts back and returned his affectionate kiss. Genuinely, I don’t certainly know what startled me more, the fact that he kissed me or that he actually was a fucking wondrous kisser.

As suddenly as the kiss occurred, it ended. Feeling the loss of his warm saddens me, but what had me grimacing was his following words.

“Sorry, I couldn’t help myself,” his speech was now irregular as he conversed,  "I love you, yet I can’t love you. Me, loving you, will presumably tear you apart… and I don’t-“

I silenced him with another kiss considering it seemed like the only way to get him to shut the hell up. I could tell he was taken by surprise but he took it anyways.

"Are you mad?” he questioned, breaking our kiss for the second time, his orbs wide.

“Yes, 9S, I am. In fact, I’m in insane—I’m insanely in love with you,” I responded, staring him straight into his blue eyes with my (E/c) ones, “And, I don’t care if you ‘break’ me because I’m already broken. But, with you, I’m genuinely happy and I’m discovering my missing pieces one by one with you.”

Nines just blinked at me, taking a few moments to grasp everything that I just said to him before his expression went into an indecipherable state. “…in love with me?” he began to murmur softly, yet, I could only pick up on the last few words of his sentence.

Are you repeating what I-

Not even a few seconds later, my train of logic was cut off by the impact of 9S’ form against mine, knocking us both off our feet and into the lunar tears. 

“You love me even though I’m mentally wrecked?” he whispered into my right ear, causing a shiver to shoot down my spine by how close he was.

Honestly, I couldn’t move—well, I could move my arms… but that’s not the point. He was essentially perching on top of my stomach, bending over me.

“Nines… I love you no matter what.” I muttered, my hand stretching up and caressing his check. Shortly, he got to the position where he was now resting beside me, his head resting upon my breast while enveloping his arms about my torso.

“Do me a favor then…” he commenced, softly, “…don’t let me go.”

Nines is curious by nature. He's studied on humans and the human condition. Almost terrifyingly so. He's actually so so so interested in the fact that your trans. Not in a creepy way. Androids have no need to identify, really. And when they wish to be perceived differently, it's quite literally as simple as the switch of a button.

So, to not only be housing a human at the bunker, but one as interesting as you... boy, you are in for so many questions. So. Goddamn. Many. He's curious about your body- but don't take it in a perverted sense. Simply, what do the hormones do? How does your body balance it out? It's all sooooo sooooooo interesting.

He'll even ask if you could lift your shirt for him. He's so unaware of boundaries and proper etiquette, it hurts. But he simply wants to see the scars. Why? Dunno. It'll satisfy his curiosity. Maybe a little more! Nines just wants to know you more intimately. Yes, he knows allll about humans. But he doesn't know about you. He cannot hide it.

2B

2B keeps her distance about the topic. Out of respect, but also, she still prioritizes her mission over you. Unfortunately. Though, at the very edge of her mind, she has all sorts of questions. Mainly about how society would've treated you. Perhaps you are not of those times, but she is deeply aware of the prejudice of the past civilizations.

But, some days, she lurks by your room, too afraid to wander in. She is afraid of her own curiosity. You do not get to see her much, seeing as it is forbidden to bring you down to earths surface, in fear of losing the last human to exist. You are too precious. To her, yes. But to YoRHa, as well. She will not admit those feelings, however.

She does find her courage somewhere, simply asking how it feels. An odd question, from an Android as straightforward as her. But nonetheless, you indulge in her curiosity. And if you were to ask why she's asking? She'll brush it off. It is important to the mission. You are important to the mission. It is important that she understands.

A2

A2 does not care much for humanity. She shows barely any interest in you, even if the rumors of you spread like wildfire amongst the resistance and the machine network. She's lost her purpose, there's not much to care about, aside from her well-being. So why would she care for an interesting anomaly like you?

Why, she asks, when she finds herself seeking you out at the resistance camp. Locked away in a make-shift room while waiting for transport to the bunker. This is her last chance, she knows. She also knows it is dangerous, but she figures it'll be worth it. The last human remaining, something she had thought was long dead. A lie. That's really what she thought you were.

Yet, A2 is surprised to see that you are very very real, and the honest truth. It does not reignite her flame for her mission, but something within her swells. She simply stares at you, almost expectantly. She does not say a word. You can just barley see an ounce of curiosity and excitement behind that flat expression. And when you open your mouth to speak, she walks out of the room, and away. That is the last you saw of her.

Adam

Adam knows almost as much as Nines does. Maybe even more. He caught wind of your existence when one of the stubbies near SCREAMED across the network. He was quick to pick you up before the Androids did. He even created you a nice little room within the copied city. Something like home, no doubt. Or at least, a resemblance of it. He stays every present, not once does he leave you alone. He even stations a Biped by you that he can tap into.

He peppers you with questions on the daily, yet still keeps a maximum of thirty. He's logging your existence. He's actually worshipping it, really. Some sort of pseudo-god in a wasteland. He's so very respectful about his questions and knows when to lay-off, as much as his mind burns with questions.

At the end of the day, though, Adam's practically on his knees, begging to see just how your body has held up. He wants to see what testosterones done, he wants to see this marvelous thing called "top surgery", he wants to see it all. ONLY if you allow him too, of course. Regardless, you are stuck with him and his brother until his inevitable demise.

Eve

Eve was actually the first to find you once that stubby alerted the machine network of a human. Yet, before he could even touch you, his brother had whisked you away to the copied city. Only there did you get to meet Eve in full. He is a lot less contained than his brother, most days he spent leaning over your (uncomfy) bedside, asking you all sorts of questions. About how it feels to be human, what hurts more (like if he threw a block at you or a machine at you!), he is less so interested in your identity.

But when he connects the dots, oh boy. More questions. More and more as the days go by. When his brother isn't there, he's asking alllll about your anatomy. Why can't you switch it so easily like he could? Wait, that's a silly question, he knows the answer. Did you know in old civilizations you we-

Adam shuts Eve up real quick before his questions can border insulting. He means you no harm, and actually he feels kind of hurt if he insults you! He's just so damn curious and he has to know allll about you. For now, you are the second most important thing in his new life, something he would willingly go to this thing called hell- you know that place, right?- for you. And back!
