Your skin is warm all over as you allow yourself to be pulled towards the bar at the sight of another round of drinks. A colourful kaleidoscope of vibrant strobe lights fills the dark room in an array of vivid blues, purples, and reds. You push through a sea of bodies, pressed up together, writhing and grinding upon each other. The heady smell of cheap perfume, sweat, and alcohol mixed invade your senses. 

You feel at home surrounded by your friends in the crowded space. It’s the one place you know you can come and blow off some steam from a gruesome week of classes and studying. The music is loud as the DJ plays hot remixes and track after track of current hits — the beat vibrating across the floor underneath your heels and through your body as you wait at the bar, hoping to catch the attention of Jimin, the bartender.

“The usual?” Jimin flashes you a smile from behind the counter. The white lights behind him that are used to show off the array of different spirits illuminate his pale skin perfectly as he whips up your drink. It’s almost embarrassing how often you frequent this club. The club’s staff recognises you, and your drink order is known by memory without even having to ask.

Nodding in his direction, you gather the money you need to pay for your drinks, “Am I that predictable?” you joke.

“I just remember the drinks of all the pretty girls that turn up four times a week,” Jimin quips back, poking fun at you.

You roll your eyes back with a chuckle, “Oh haha, aren’t you just hilarious.”

Jimin hands you the fruity concoction with a wink. It’s pretty. Fizzy oranges and yellows swirl around the glass, decorated with a sugar rim and a plastic umbrella on top with a shot of tequila on the side. “Here, this one’s on me,” he kindly refuses your money.

Taking the shot glass from off the bar counter, you quickly swallow the bitter drink. The slight burn runs down your throat, and you welcome it with a smile. Dropping the shot glass, you swap it out for the cocktail and shoot him a wink, “I owe you.”

You lean yourself back against the countertop of the sticky bar and continue to scan the room in search of a bit of fun for the night. With your advantage of standing at the bar, it gives you an elevated level of the club, a fantastic view of your surroundings to watch and judge the strangers in front of you and your group of friends scattered around.

Some are on the middle of the dancefloor, dancing together with drinks in their hands and smiles on their faces, while others had found their companions. Some just sit at tables laughing and enjoying their night with newfound friends.

Who are you kidding? The best outcome would be finding someone to take you home for the night.
