I recently participated to a Bang for the same purpose as you and I had similar fears, especially when my fic struggled in getting the attention of a beta-reader. A pinch-hitter accepted in beta-ing me, so by then I was pretty much convinced my fic was going to be a boring flop.

Then came the artist sign-ups and I got paired with the amazing @penstemon who not only had chosen my fic but also really engaged in the reading and writing process all along. That gave way to a real (and fun) collaboration on Telegram, to amazing art pieces and to boosting my confidence. 

When the BigBang finished, I skimmed through all the fics and art pieces and I can tell you the experience had been fabulous for all 20 of us!

So, do not fear anonie, this can be the opportunity not only for great encounters indeed but also for you to grow as a writer too. You learn to set common guidelines and rules of communication, express directions and tastes, appreciate suggestions you hadn’t thought of that end up being just amazing, to accept the fact that your writing can be influenced by the art and not just the other way round (and isn’t that the best feeling?)

I signed to a Bang on discord (fics will be posted on ao3) and now Im afraid my artist wont like my fic. I know u didnt participate in BB but maybe your followers did? Im afraid to disappoint someone after receiving beautiful art... im not that good, i just wanted to participate in my fandom & maybe meet some friends... idk what im asking, maybe for some words of encouragement? Sorry >.

I haven’t done a big bang before, but I have done exchanges. Even when a gift fic hasn’t been exactly what I wanted in one way or another, I’ve always really appreciated the effort put in and just the fact that someone was willing to put themselves out there and participate in an event. I know not everyone has the same skill levels or tastes or headcanons etc. and I’m okay with that going in. I have no idea what I’ll get back, but that’s part of the fun of it. ❤
