          it  had  been  a  bit  since  the  fiasco  at  the  clarington,  sophie  would’ve  quit  a  long  time  ago  had  bernard  not  promoted  her  and  if  she  hadn’t  needed  the  job  so  badly.  as  much  as  the  place  still  had  a  tendency  to  creep  her  out  now,  at  least  she  had  beth  to  keep  her  company  when  she  wasn’t  being  ran  ragged—which  were  few  and  far  between  times.

          still,  worst  of  all,  andrew  wasn’t  there  for  her  to  playfully  pick  on  and  flirt  with  anymore.  sure,  she  could  still  do  that  at  his  bookstore,  but  she  liked  having  him  in  the  same  workplace  as  her.  getting  to  talk  with  him  made  the  workday  go  by  quicker.  she  made  up  for  it  though,  by  spending  her  free  time  with  him  whenever  she  could—even  if  that  meant  sitting  in  his  bookstore  with  him  and  being  more  of  a  pest  than  any  real  help.  it  wasn’t  her  fault  that  he  was  too  cute  not  to  mess  with.

          the  idea  to  distract  andrew  sparked  in  her  mind  when  sophie  turned  the  radio  on  and  ‘dream  a  little  dream  of  me,’  crackled  to  life,  filling  the  otherwise  empty  bookstore.  it  was  late,  near  closing,  and  sophie  doubted  that,  at  the  hour  it  was,  they’d  get  much  more  business  that  evening,  anyway.

          “ oh,  andrew, ”  she  called,  voice  with  a  sing-song  lilt,  reaching  for  him  as  she  approached.  “ want  you  to  put  your  hands  around  my  waist… ”  she  moved  his  hands  to  said  waist,  perching  her  own  hands  upon  his  shoulders  with  a  smile.

          “ can  we  just  dance  till  the  skies  are  white ? ”
