The Oso-san 30 Day Challenge has me in a rut.  The next prompt is ‘Favorite Theme Song,’ and … well, I don’t know how to draw that.  So I’d like to ask you guys to suggest a different prompt!  It can be anything you like!  So what should I draw next for the Osomatsu-san 30 Day Challenge?

Thank you, I couldn’t have said it better myself.  I’ve been noticing the trend of call-out culture a lot recently and you summed up my feelings about it pretty closely.  On one hand I can sort of understand why people do it; they want to feel like a hero, they want to be the voice that changes something in someone ...  But your personal beliefs are a product of your own experiences, and you can’t force them on someone else who has a completely different set of experiences to go off of.  People are very capable of growing and changing, but they need to do it on their own; you can’t force it.

Call Out Culture, Being ‘Problematic’, and Individual Growth.

I had to sleep a bit on my thoughts but something has really stood out to me in the past 48 hours.

How many people have been affected by Call Out Culture?

Being very serious, I have become genuinely concerned with how many lives have been affected by people who have been trying to be white knights by being part of this growing call out culture, where it’s either good behavior or eternal scorn. I’ve noticed throughout my time on Tumblr and on other social medias that, regardless who you are and what you do, anyone can be the topic of ‘problems’, even for small misdemeanors that don’t truly mean anything.

There are fandoms with writers/artists/cosplayers who are targets; artists and models who hone their crafts only to be ostracized by the people they are supposed to connect with simply because of differences of opinion and paladin-like moral grounds. People in fandoms pride themselves with being part of a community of individuals who love the same things they do and yet we have an underlying danger that threatens to ruin everything if one wrong move is made, accident or not. We’ve become a nest of people simply waiting for someone to make a mistake before we pile-drive them into the dirt for the sake of our own justice.

Me, I know I’ve already been/become a target of ‘problematic issues’, such as my usage of the word “Genderbend” and a past error regarding research on a character’s name (which, looking back on it now, is hilarious as hell on how angry I got. Like, Past!Michaela, take a fucking chill pill and fix the problem), but at the end of the day, I will still (hopefully) have the strength to move forward with my life and keep telling stories. I will continue to grow, mature, and will eventually become someone that people can look at and go ‘I wanna be like her.’ I’ve built my life around not giving a fuck about hatred and scorn and I wish for the happiness and enlightenment of all human beings.

However, many people who become victims of this trend aren’t so fortunate and I can only pray that God gives them the strength and love to continue to grow. I’ve heard many stories of victims losing dream jobs, getting hurt by friends and family, or even self-harming and attempting suicide because the negativity of the call out culture became too much.

It’s one thing to call out an actual racist, homo/transphobic, sexist, bigot, etc to defend your station if they are currently being harmful, but it is surely another issue when a minor handful of errors done in the past clings onto someone’s ankles like shackles when they should be allowed to grow up and become better human beings. Call out culture forgets that people can eventually learn and punishment is not the way to teach that growth. We do not kick a dog when they’ve chewed up a shoe; why should we berate and degrade a human being when they’ve made a mistake they can fix?

If you follow me, please know that I love you and there are many, many people who love you as well. In my blog and in any interaction with me, you will find many opinions; some you may agree with while others you may not. However, I find that conversations and open-mindedness will become the essence of human success and peace.

However, think twice before you look at someone with scorn, whether it be me or someone you know/idolize/etc. You may be raising a middle finger at someone who quite possibly deserves it or someone who really doesn’t. The things I have seen in the culture have ranged from “This was deserved and needs to be seen” to “This is over the top and will ruin someone’s life” so you have to really take a deeper look before making informed judgements.

I will not tell you how to make your decisions. If you find me to be problematic in any shape, fashion, or form, then I cannot defend myself for what you have strong faith in. Everyone is allowed to believe in what they have faith in. However, as I know that every human being on this Earth has the ability to learn and forgive, we all have the capability to understand, have a conversation, and truly acknowledge the weight of someone’s soul.

Welp, I said I would draw Iyami in drag.  So here he is!  Sure the Matsus all got snazzy Drag Queen outfits in Hesokuri Wars recently, but come on we all know who the real queen is!  This bucktoothed beauty was doing it before it was cool.

And no, I’m not actually going to count this as a prompt.  This is just for something to make me laugh and help me forget that no one thinks my art is worth requesting apparently.  Count this as bonus apology art for taking so long between prompts, I guess.
