I Love This Scene Lol. Because Sometimes I Wonder If Percy Isnt Actually As Amazing As I Make Him Out

i love this scene lol. because sometimes i wonder if percy isn’t actually as amazing as i make him out to be in my head, but then i remember scenes like this. leo was SO annoyed with him for being not only super powerful and heroic and handsome, but also a great person too. like he was genuinely upset 😂

Okay, I know I don't really post stuff of my own but... today I was reading some flash/arrow ao3's and there he was, Joe -freaking- West. I just can't keep this in, I really don't like him, and like, I feel like he's such a controversial character in flash, he was only ever okay with Barry's and everyone else's decisions as long as the decisions in question agreed with his view and his morals but always making it look like he wasn't thinking about what he wanted... and like, I really get it but also, ollie wasn't a fuking psycho... I also don't really like the Barry/Iris relationship, but whatever, I guess I'm not even making sense... just wanted to vent (please don't kill me)

the thing is, ESPECIALLY with the set up in chalice of the gods, I really don't think percy is ever gonna truly get a break. he's too valuable to them as much as no one likes it. like I fully expect percy to die as an old man and then immediately wake up as a young god against his will

another piper and percy parallel for you

They both only went on their first quests in tlt and tlh to save their parent. Percy wanted to save his mom and piper wanted to save her dad.

They both also tried to hide it from their friends, but end up telling them, and annabeth and grover/leo and jason BOTH decide to help save their parents. AND they all end up saving the world anyway because why not

Maturing is realizing that Luke Castellan was never the villain. The gods and Kronos were. He was just an angry kid who felt forgotten and ignored by his father and the other gods. He was used and manipulated by Kronos the same way the gods used him and other demigods before. And Percy Jackson and the Olympians is about the cycle of abuse and neglect. From Kronos, to the gods, to the demigods; from Kronos who ate his children, to the gods who ignored theirs. Then along comes Percy Jackson, Percy who recognized the cycle and said no more, Percy who used his one gift from the gods to make sure they never let what happened to Luke happen again. No more forgotten and angry children left to fend for themselves, left to grow resentful of gods so much so they end up being used and manipulated by Kronos who was just as bad as the gods and worse. No more Luke Castellans. Maybe Luke didn’t break the cycle but Percy did because of him and that’s so important.

Say what you want about Poseidon, but at least he didn’t have the nerve to disprove of Percy’s relationship with Annabeth after years of ignoring him, despite the fact that she did a lot more for him than Poseidon did.

You know. Like Athena did with Percy.

Percy's anger is immediate and obvious and it's interesting how me and a lot of people have thought how Percy's generally sarcastic and flippant narration so effectively distracts from this. but in literally the first book, Percy is immediately down with murder. like I haven't seen anyone else point out how Percy's first instinct when the gang is attacked in LA is to try and kill the kids who attack them. even being fully aware that they are human. not to mention Percy's brutality in killing Procrustes, like the way it's written and framed is particularly brutal.

actually I also wanna talk about the part where Percy convinces Bob to kill Hyperion because even though Percy never says anything outright sinister, the way he handles the entire situation with such cool ease, playing on Bob’s emotions... its so insane???

Because Annabeth’s reaction to the three of them encountering Hyperion reforming is: “oh this is bad we need to get out of here” She knows if Bob remembers himself, that it's not going to play out well for Percy and her. She also thinks about how they're being pursued and don't have a lot of time. Her solution to the problem, seemingly, is to leave.

But Percy's solution is to work the situation to his advantage. He re-affirms Bob's loyalty to him:

Actually I Also Wanna Talk About The Part Where Percy Convinces Bob To Kill Hyperion Because Even Though

Percy then re-establishes Bob's moral code: "Some monsters are good. Some are bad. This Titan is bad. He tried to kill me and a lot of people. He's not good like you are."

And it ends with Percy leaving the choice of whatever to do with Hyperion to Bob but of course, is it really what Bob chose to do? Bob decides to kill Hyperion. It's not what he may have done, if Percy hadn't intervened. But it's exactly what Percy was oh-so-sweetly leading Bob to do.

And listen, I'm not claiming that it was exactly morally bankrupt of Percy to take advantage of a once-evil titan who could get him and his girlfriend through hell in one piece. Percy, Annabeth, they manipulate monsters and enemies all the time. Annabeth ended the previous book with manipulating Arachne into weaving her own web. So it's not exactly like she's against using manipulative tactics, in theory.

But Bob, at this point, is not just some monster. He is so painfully sincere in his belief in Percy and their friendship, so yes, it does feel a bit sinister whenever Percy uses Bob... and he really uses Bob.

And I think what makes the scene so unsettling, it isn't just that Percy manipulated Bob, its how well Percy manipulated him. He manipulates Bob so well that Percy doesn't even have to kill Hyperion... because Bob does it for him. He manipulates Bob so well, that Annabeth couldn't tell if Percy was purposefully trying to manipulate the situation. (Newsflash, he most definitely was). Like holy shit.

Percy: *sitting in the corner of the room*

Leo, passing by: What’s the deal with Percy?

Annabeth: *looks up from book* He only just figured out that you can’t describe colors

Leo: What? Yes you can, green as grass!

Annabeth: That’s using a color to describe something else

Leo: Okay, how about this - red is warm?

Annabeth: That’s associating the color with a feeling

Leo: *staring off into the distance* Oh my gods

Jason: *lying on the floor with Frank* Just give up. We can’t outsmart her

Leo: *joins Percy in the corner*

*raises hand* in light of the PJO negotiations with Disney... may I offer my take on an opening sequence to the first ep of the series (whether animated or live action tho preferably animated)...

EDIT: IN LIGHT OF THE SHOW GETTING GREENLIT!!!! May I offer this once more??

I mean it can’t start with anything except:

Black screen: *narration*

Look, I didn’t want to be a half-blood.

*shot of Percy standing before an immense doorway - the entryway to the council room of Olympus*

If you're watching this because you think you might be one, my advice is: turn off this show right now.

*close up of Percy’s face* *brief shot of Sally Jackson smiling at Percy*

Believe whatever lie your mom or dad told you about your birth and try to lead a normal life. Being a half - blood is dangerous.

*split second shots of Percy/the OG trio/Sally getting hurt*

It's scary. Most of the time, it gets you killed in painful, nasty ways.

*pan down of Percy’s bruck-up body/clothes as flash montage plays of Percy/friends in dire straits*

If you’re a normal kid, watching this because you think its fiction, great. Watch on. I envy you for being able to believe that none of this ever happened.

*Percy sighs* *raises a hand to push open the doors*

But if recognize yourself in me- if you feel something stirring inside -stop watching immediately. You might be one of us. And once you know that, its only a matter of time before they sense it too, and they'll come for you.

*brief shadowy glimpses of the mains bads Percy and co faced during the first book* *Mrs Dodds in Fury form* *Minotaur* *Medusa* *Ares* *Hades*

Don't say I didn't warn you. My name is Percy Jackson. I'm twelve years old.

*flashback to the very beginning* *bus on a highway* *Interior: Kids chattering away* *slide past Dodd’s without too much focus on her* *slide past Grover eating an apple*

Until a few months ago, I was a boarding student at Yancy Academy, a private school for troubled kids in upstate New York.

*camera lands on Percy Jackson as he looks out the window* *reflection shot*

Am I a troubled kid?

*Percy in the present* *takes a deep breath* *all other sound cuts off*

Yeah. You could say that.

*pushes doors of Olympus council room*
