the first oswald cartoon wasn't actually trolley troubles it was a completely different short called "poor papa" where oswald suddenly gets hundreds of bunny babies and needs to take care of them. the cartoon was turned down by universal for making oswald too old and fat >:(
oswald's first love interest was not ortensia but actually another bunny named fanny cottontail who was more of a femme fatale type character, but when universal took the rights to oswald they rewrote fanny as oswald's sister. people suspect that she didn't show up in epic mickey because of the weird implications of fanny being both oswald's sister and ex girlfriend
oswald's first cartoons were so successful that disney was able to invest in stone mills to more efficiently crush types of paint that would be used in cartoons all throughout the decade, so oswald inadvertently had a hand in the production of rubberhose cartoons
