I love napping in the afternoon
its so warm and cozy, and the light keeps all the scary monsters away. the comforting ambiance of birds chirping and leaves shaking with the wind is so soothing, it just drifts me off to sleep.

Nomma I can’t sleep, can you tell me a story? 💖 - London
Of course bubba,

Once upon a time, in a forest far far away, there was a cry. It echoed off the trees, and moves throughout the night.
But no one could hear it. The cries couldn’t reach the candle light of a windowsill, nor could it reach the ears of the city guard who had fallen asleep.
These cries weren’t of pain, rather it was thst of an infant. One in desperate need of their mother. Yet, where was she?
The infant was wrapped in an old cloth, laid in a basket, and was floating down the river. Far from the town they once called home.
-
The Romu, a name so feared in the lands no one dare speak it. Legends say it towered over trees, destroying everything in its path, a mouth of jagged teeth, and claws that will tear you in two.
Legends say it lives in the mountains, dwelling in caves, waiting for an unfortunate soul to fall into its trap.
And yet, here be the Romu wondering the forest. Tall? Sure, but 8 feet wasn’t nearly enough to tower over trees.
Sharp teeth? Absolutely, but nothing too different from the common wolf.
Claws? Who doesn’t forget to file their nails ever now and then?
No the Romu wasn’t a being of horror, a monster, but not in the sense that the villagers would believe.
-
Silence, that was all the Romu truly knew. The faint drip of the cave soothed it to sleep, the brush of the trees waved good morning, and the creatures of the forest stayed silent.
Lonely, that’s how it describes itself. No being dare cross its path, yet it never knew why.
Was it the way it dressed? Was it unusual to go around wrapped in furs?
Perhaps it was the was it walked?
The Romu would never get an answer, no one ever stayed to talk.
They would just make these terrible noises before disappearing into the woods.
-
There the Romu lay, deep in its cave, attempting to rest.
Then it heard it, that noise, that terrible sound those creatures make.
Its ears twitch at the loud sound.
And yet, it was different.
Rising, the Romu finds itself at the coves mouth, scanning the tree line it finds nothing.
Its ears perk up again, head snapping towards the direction of the river.
Climbing down the rocks the Romu made swift movements, the moon shining through the trees, guiding it.
-
The infant continued to cry, the wind was harsh, and the water was far too cold.
However, these cries began to be swallowed out.
A far loading sound approaching.
That of a waterfall.
The rumbling waves only made the babies cries worsen, and yet no one could hear them.
No human at least.
-
The Romu coved its ears now, finding the sounds overwhelming.
Water was peaceful, but not when the waves were so angry.
Reaching the waters edge, it tilts its head.
It saw no creature, none with sharp sticks, nor ones with silver clothes.
But, where had that sound come from?
Its eyes gazed across the vast river way, seeing nothing of interest.
Then it saw it, across the river, caught on a branch was a basket.
The Romu removed its furs, and entered the river, the water not being strong enough to topple the Romu over.
Reaching out, the Romu easily dislodges the basket peering inside.
There looking back was a creature.
It looked much like the other but far smaller.
For a moment the cries stopped.
The only sound in the forest once more was that of the rushing water.
-
Silence, something the Romu knew so well.
Screaming, not unusual, but not appreciated.
This sound however, was something new.
It was gentle, light, bubbly, something the Romu never knew was possible.
They’re so soft, so small, so full of light.
How could they have possibly ended up all alone.
Alone.
Now that was something the Romu understood.
This little one, they had no one.
Well, no. That’s not true.
The Romu was here.
It would always be here.
Perhaps this is it.
The Romu had always wanted a little one.
To be like the creatures it’d see in the wild.
To care, to teach, and to love.
The Romu held the infant tight, and looked out to the stars.
-
No longer alone.
The silence now broken.
The Romu and its dear child.
Together forever.
As it was always meant to be.
