I have not read or watched Acro Trip yet but I’m pretty sure this is canon.
Today is Yom Kippur, a day which many refer to as the Day of Atonement in the Jewish calendar. Today, much like anytime I engage with my magical girl work, I aim to practice vulnerability for the sake of transformation.
As we close out the Days of Awe, we use this time to seek forgiveness for our mistakes from the past year and resolve to be better in the year to come. Today, in particular, we are forced to reflect on our actions as if we were viewing them under a microscope: rigorously, but gently, considering what we have done that could have caused harm and which aspects of us we want to improve on or change.
Traditionally, Yom Kippur is spent all day in synagogue but as an anti-Zionist Jew, I have found many local communities to be increasingly othering (especially as we pass one year since the actions on October 7th). Instead, I am observing the day as I have done since before I turned thirteen, regardless of having a temple to go to: by abstaining from food and drink (besides medications) and actions that provide comfort, such as bathing and applying makeup, and asking friends and loved ones for forgiveness.
While I have not had this blog for long, and I’ve only maybe interacted with a few that have come across it, I would very much like to extend this sentiment to you. I am so sorry if I have done or said anything to have hurt you and I sincerely apologize for any other trespasses; I hope you are able to find comfort and closure and are able to find it in yourself to forgive me.
And I know that forgiveness is easier said than done. My messages are always open if you want to bring to me anything in particular to address or just want to vent. I sincerely believe that magic, much like activism and community work, is better accomplished when we are able to overcome and work together.
