Part of the Dime Breaker series
Some demons choose to keep their old names. Others pick a new one. For one reason or another.
You left yours behind for one simple fact: No one will know who you are. If you became prevalent in the future, questions will be made about your history. Where did you come from? Who were you before you died? What sent you down here?
If it became known you never existed in their human world to begin with... You didn't want to think about all the killer intent point at you like darts. All it takes is one perfectly or lucky aimed shot.
Just.
One.
You sip your tea. Rosie certainly is as delightful as you expect. Patiently waiting for you to pick a new name while talking about other subjects. Your abilities, your memories, etc.
You toy with a coin, the only thing to come with you into this world. It's face unique from their time. "Dime," you test.
"What's that, darling?"
"My name." You look up and shrug sheepishly. "I like how Dime sounds."
Rosie smiles brightly and bows slightly in greeting. "It's a delight to properly make your acquaintance, dear Dime."
VALYRIAN LAWS HEADCANON
You are not permitted to claim a dragon until you are six and ten name days. This is done so that a literal fire-breathing weapon is NOT in the hands of a temperamental child during a tantrum.
Heirs are chosen through a selection process, depending on the families. Once chosen, the heir is given their familial sword and the duties will be slowly transferred to the heir.
Potential heirs are eligible for the selection process once they are ten name days. They can decide to step down for position or continue forward once they are six and ten.
An heir is chosen once all eligible heirs are certified adults.
If two potential heirs are chosen, they may both rule once certain needs are met: Either they wed or if they don't, they must both come to agreement before any decisions are made. If they wed outside of the family or one of their other siblings, their spouses must not have any say in political decisions.
Dragon eggs are kept with their mothers, and are only eligible for selection once they hatch and reaching are certain size. Depending on their speed of growth, this could be within a few decades.
All unclaimed or wild dragons will be raised in the Dragon Reservoir. Due to Valyrian law limiting the number of dragons depending on where in the hierarchy you stand, a dragon will be returned to the Reservoir if no one claims it in a certain period of time after the prior rider passed and the funeral rites were followed through.
