another thing about parkour civilization is that it reinforces one of my core beliefs about art, which is that, if you’re an artist, there’s still stuff to be learned from even the most wacky/shitty lowbrow stuff. i don’t think parkour civ is a masterpiece, and there’s a lot about it that i would not want to emulate in my own works, but it’s also worthwhile to look at because of the novel way that it combines tropes and storytelling techniques from disparate genres and traditions. even if the narration is kinda bad in some ways, it’s an inextricable part of the experience. it’s sort of like, idk, those modern movies retelling shakespeare plays - there is something fun & important in taking big ideas and packaging them in extremely accessible, quirky, of-the-times storytelling!
