While the bone chill crept in, your instincts tried to intervene. Your rational mind attempted to lure your attention with thoughts of hot cocoa, the cosy comforting warmth of a fire in the hearth back home... but it was no match for the mystical beauty of the boy who had you captivated. When he began to hum sweetly, there was no hope for seeing reason. You were irrevocably entranced now as his fingers grazed your hair softly.

As luck would have it, another was approaching – a second boy, coming in search of his brother. This boy was mortified by the scene he found. Your lips were almost blue beneath the red stain of the berries you'd been fed, and you were trembling violently under your thin cloak.

The naive one cried out in despair when the newcomer whisked you away; his voice following behind as you were carried. The tall boy’s hurried footsteps in the thick snow almost drowned out Yeonjun's shouts. Soobin knew the older boy was clueless to the world outside the forest, having no interest in it as the others did – for the outside world did not offer the same purity or natural wonder – but he never thought it could bring any harm. If he had, he would have taught Yeonjun about the fragility of humans long ago. He felt a pang of guilt in his chest as you shuddered in his arms.

Fortunately, the younger ones had not strayed from the place he had left them. They all looked shocked and bewildered as he appeared with a human, but sprang to action when Soobin requested they start a fire and fetch water from the one small spring that remained unfrozen in the Everwinter Forest. Ignoring Yeonjun's grumbles, he sat down and cradled you closer as Kai’s nimble fingers worked to light a fire, his eyes frequently glancing up curiously at the human in their midst. The winter fae did not need fire for warmth, as they did not feel the cold. It was a trick they learned from watching humans. Instead, they used it for entertainment, amused by the flicker of the flames and the shadows they could cast as it burned.

When Taehyun and Beomgyu returned from the spring, they set the tin cup over the fire for a few minutes as instructed. Then, they all watched intently as Soobin touched it to your mouth and carefully tipped it up to a slow trickle. Swallowing down the warm water instinctively as it filled your mouth, your freezing hands found their way around the heated cup in Soobin’s grasp for warmth. Your breath came out in a fog against the chill air as you sighed with relief. Heat bloomed in your chest and filled your belly as the water traveled, and belatedly the visions of hot cocoa and a warm bath reached you.

Your mind was too hazed to take in the words as the fae’s voices spoke back and forth around you. It hardly registered that you were being cradled on somebody’s lap. All you could focus on was how tired you felt, both physically and mentally. Drained of any semblance of energy, you did not fight the closing of your eyes as the sound of the wordless voices and the warmth of the stranger who held you and the crackling fire lulled you into a dreamless sleep.

I have been dreaming about this.. I hope they’re as cute as the fan made ones! I think Beomgyu’s will be my favourite, even it’s silhouette is adorable! It looks like it might be a puppy. I’ve always wondered why his animal is a bear and not puppy! Super confused about Soobin’s though… looks like a wolf but I’m not sure why his would be a wolf so I keep thinking hedgehog?
