……………………………………………………………………………………………………………
“Babe please,” you whine, tugging at your boyfriend’s arm, “Just put the outfit on!”
You’re currently in you and your boyfriend’s bedroom, clothes scattered everywhere with the controversial outfit laid out on the bed.
“No!” Retorts Jimin, crossing his arms sassily.
Why were you arguing? Because today was July 21st, and the Barbie Movie was out. All you wanted was a cute little movie date with your boyfriend, and of course you had to dress on theme. But someone was being stubborn.
“Babe, it’s just a pink outfit! I wanted us to look cute together for the movie,” you pout, giving up and sitting on the bed.
Truthfully, the outfit wasn’t that bad. A pink and aqua striped button up with pink shorts. But one might’ve thought you were asking Jimin to wear an inflatable costume with the way he was acting.
“I know sweets, but can’t I just wear my usual clothing? What’s so special about this movie anyways?” Jimin asks, coming to sit next to you.
You trace the flowers on the bedspread, unsure of what to say. Why did you want him to wear this? Maybe because you were looking forward to this movie, maybe because you wanted to be a cute matching couple.
Jimin sighs, wrapping his arms around you and you feel the soft fabric of his sweatshirt.
“Okay. I’m sorry love, if you really want me to wear this I will if it makes you happy. I want you to be happy, my love,” Jimin says softly, giving you a soft peck on your nose, making you giggle.
“There’s my sweets’ smile!” Jimin then proceeds to give you a smattering of kisses all over your face. Both your cheeks, your lips, your forehead, the small freckle on your chin.
You laugh, saying “Jimin, stop! Babe, please!”
Jimin does stop, giving you one last smooch on your lips.
“Okay, I’ll go change. You need to as well!” He says, pushing you to the closet, “I know you’ve been planning this outfit for a while!”
Yes, you had been. Ever since you found out the release date for the movie you had rushed to find the perfect outfit.
~
As soon as you saw the trailer and Barbie’s pink gingham dress, you were inspired. Dragging Jimin with you (much to his dismay), you shopped until you found pink and white gingham shorts overalls.
“Babe look! It’s perfect!” You cheered to Jimin, grabbing it off the rack.
Jimin smiled at you, happy that you were happy.
“Yes it is. Now, what shoes are you wearing with it?”
You hadn’t even thought of shoes!
“Ummm…I’m not sure. What do you think?” You ask, going up to the counter to pay.
After exiting the story, you two had stopped for a smoothie. Sitting in the booth, you contemplate your shoe options.
“I think you should find some cute sneakers to go with it,” said Jimin, putting his arm around your shoulder.
You nod, excited at the prospect of new shoes (what can you say? you’re a shopaholic).
“Okay! Let’s go!”
You barely give Jimin time to finish his smoothie before you’re leading him to a shoe store.
After much scouring, you find the perfect sneakers that are white with a pink bow on the side.
Jimin paid for them, ignoring your protests.
“Let me spoil you, sweets. It’s my job as your boyfriend,” he said, pulling out his fancy credit card.
~
Now, you pull on the overalls with a plain white tee beneath it and spritz yourself with perfume that Jimin got for your two year anniversary.
“Almost ready babe!” You call to Jimin, grabbing your pink quilted heart purse. A quick check in the mirror shows that your pink bows in your hair were still intact.
Opening the closet door, you stop in your tracks when you see Jimin. His shirt has the top button open, showing off his collarbones and he really is your Ken. Your other half.
You swear that you fall even more in love.
“Wow, Jimin. You look perfect. I love you so much,” you breathe out, walking over to kiss him.
“You look perfect too, mi amor, and I love you as well,” says Jimin, returning the sweet kiss.
After you pull away Jimin buries his head in your neck, happy that you’re wearing the sweet perfume he got you.
“Mmm…love, you smell like strawberries…” Jimin mumbles, not realizing he was making me blush.
“Let’s go!” You say, quickly bounding to get your shoes on and trying to ignore your heated face.
Jimin laughs but follows you and you both put your shoes on and head out.
~
At the theatre Jimin buys popcorn and a drinks, telling you “Let me treat you. It’s my duty as a good boyfriend!”
Munching on popcorn you two find a seat in the middle of the almost-empty theatre.
“We almost have the whole place to ourselves!” You whisper to Jimin, glancing around. There’s only another couple in the back and a family in the front.
The trailers start, and you and Jimin always have play a game to guess what the movie is before the trailer is over.
“Wonka! Starring Timothy Chalamet!” You cheer quietly, smiling at Jimin’s eye roll.
“Whatever. You just think he’s hot,” Jimin grumbles.
You shrug. “Maybe so. But I still guessed it!”
Eventually, the movie starts. The opening scene was surprising, but you quickly were invested.
From Barbie’s fabulous outfits to Gloria’s speech, you loved it.
At the end, when ‘What Was I Made For?’ was playing, you felt a tear roll down your cheek. The song touched your soul and this movie truly resonated with you.
“My love, please don’t cry,” murmers Jimin, reaching over to gently wipe the tear away.
This sweet gesture just makes you tear up more.
“Amor, what’s wrong?” Jimin asks, concerned when you don’t stop crying. He hates to see you sad, and would do anything to make you happy.
“I-it’s just that-“ sniffle “-the message in the movie is so m-meaningful to me and I-“ sniffle “-just love you so much and appreciate you and the way you’ve never made me feel stupid and-“
“My love, you are not stupid. You are so smart and you mean the world to me,” Jimin says, reaching in to hug you tightly. “I am so glad that this movie touched your soul so much, and you will always be my one and only.”
Hugging Jimin back feels like the warm feeling you get when you eat hot soup. It starts with the heat in your stomach and then becomes warmth that spreads to the rest of your body. You feel true happiness.
“Thank you baby,” you whisper into Jimin’s shoulder, hugging him (if possible) more snugly.
Jimin kisses your head softly.
~
After the movie you two head out, Jimin’s jacket slung over your shoulders. Drunk on love you two giggle like lovesick teenagers as you leave and go into the chilly evening air.
“Babe I don’t want to go hoooome,” you whine to Jimin, climbing into the passenger seat of his car.
“Okay, we don’t have to yet. Where do you want to go?” Jimin asks, pulling out of the movie theatre parking lot.
“I don’t know…let’s just drive around,” you suggest.
Jimin drives around and there’s nothing much open. Then you get a glimpse of a lit up neon sign down the road.
“Baby! Let’s go there, it looks open!” You point to the sign and Jimin obliges.
Jimin parks and you see that it’s a small diner.
“Looks like it’s still open. Let’s go in!” Jimin exclaims, opening the door for you. He’s ever the gentlemen.
The bell jingles as we step inside the vintage looking diner, with worn black and white tile and pink leather booths. Matching stools line the counter and milkshake machines with glasses are behind it.
“Wow. I’ve never been in here before. Maybe it’s new?” You ask, partly to yourself.
“Maybe so. C’mon, let’s order something!” Jimin practically drags you to the counter and you two sit next to each other on the spinny barstools.
There’s no one eating, but you do hear a couple sounds from in the kitchen, a sign that someone’s here.
“Be with you in a moment!” Calls a cheery voice.
You and Jimin look around at the diner, admiring the jukebox in the corner while you wait.
A minute later a brown haired girl comes out of the kitchen holding a notepad.
“Hello! Sorry about the wait. Welcome to the Magic Shop Diner. My name’s Amelia and I’ll take your order today! What can I get for you two?”
You and Jimin look at the menu on the wall, unsure of what to order because of the variety of choices.
“What would you recommend?” Jimin finally asks, after several moments of hesitation.
“Well, for couples there’s a strawberry shortcake milkshake special! A large milkshake with two straws for a lower price!” Peppy Amelia says.
“What about it love? Do you want the strawberry shortcake special?” Jimin asks you.
You think about it. Come to think of it, a milkshake would really hit the spot. And a pink one? Perfect for the movie you just saw.
“Sure, but only if you want it,” you say, grasping Jimin’s hand.
“If that’s what you want, let’s get it. We’ll take one strawberry shortcake milkshake with the couple special please,” orders Jimin.
“Great! I’ll get that for you as soon as possible.” Amelia goes to the milkshakes machine and starts to make it.
“I’m excited babe. It’s perfect for the Barbie movie! I have to take a picture of it before we eat it,” you say, thinking about how aesthetically pleasing the milkshake will look in the diner.
“Sure, sweets. I’ll take some of you with the milkshake too,” Jimin says fondly, grinning at the beam in your eyes.
You lay your head on Jimin’s shoulder, his hand warming yours. Closing your eyes for a moment, you think about how happy you feel. The perfect boyfriend with the perfect movie for a perfect date.
“Your order is ready!” Amelia says, breaking your train of thought.
You open your eyes and lift your head up. There on the counter is a pink milkshake piled with whipped cream, a slice of strawberry shortcake, and a cherry on top. It looks like a sugary paradise.
“It’s perfect! Thank you, Amelia,” you gush, whipping out your phone. After snapping some photos of the milkshake, Jimin takes your phone and tells you to pose. You slide the drink closer to you and grin. Then you mime taking a sip, but something doesn’t feel right.
“Babe! I need you in a picture with me. Let’s take a selfie!” You hold out your phone as you and Jimin take a sip of the milkshake together. Afterwards, Jimin presses a kiss to your lips, and you barely stop yourself from dropping your phone. His lips taste like strawberry and you swear it’s like tasting heaven.
“Mmm, babe!” You say, your voice slightly muffled.
Jimin takes the hint and pulls away, smirking at your flustered face. “What’s wrong, my love?”
You glare at him. “I want to eat the milkshake now! And you’re distracting me!”
Jimin’s smirk melts into a cheesy grin. “Okay, fine. Let’s devour this thing!”
After much slurping and many ‘mmms’ you and Jimin finally finish the milkshake.
“That was so good,” you moan, once again resting your head on Jimin’s shoulder. Tummy full, all you want to do is curl up and sleep off the sugar.
“I agree. Hey, Amelia, how much do we owe?” Jimin asks, catching the attention of the brunette.
“Well…it’s on the house because you two are too cute!” Amelia cheers. You swear you see heart eyes as Amelia looks at you and Jimin.
“No, really, how much did we owe you?” Jimin presses, refusing to accept the free drink.
“Really, nothing,” Amelia assures, pushing away Jimin’s cash.
“But it was so good! Surely we need to pay,” you protest, seeing Amelia shake her head.
“Fine. Then we’ll just leave a huge tip,” says Jimin, leaving the cash in the tip jar by the cash register.
“Oh, well you really don’t have to!” Amelia says, but you can tell she’s happy about it.
“Yes, we do. And we’ll recommend this place to our friends too!” You say, already imagining the future double dates you and your friends can do here.
“Well, we appreciate it. You folks are so cute! I hope you have a great evening,” Amelia says cheerily.
“You too!”
You and Jimin leave with your arms around each other.
Once you get inside the car, you sigh. “I’m so happy right now, babe. I hope we can always be this happy.”
Jimin turns to look at you for a brief moment, smiling. “Me too. I love you so much, my love.”
“And I love you.” You yawn wide, the night’s activities catching up to you.
“Take a nap, amor. I’ll wake you when we get home,” Jimin says, giving me a blanket from the backseat.
“Okay, thanks baby.”
You close your eyes and fall asleep, wondering, “How did I get so lucky?”

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Goodnight Jimin.
I drift off after giving Jimin the soft kiss, my heart warming.
I wake up in a dark, damp room. I can’t see much. But the atmosphere makes it feel like a distant memory of some kind. “Stupid!” The word rings in my ears, over and over again. What’s going on? The overwhelming feeling of panic sets in, even if in the back of my mind I know it’s a dream nightmare. A hand comes dangerously close to my face and I flinch, expecting the blow when-
I wake up in a cold sweat, my heart beating out of my chest. My vision is blurry and I can feel someone touching my arms. It’s not him, It’s not him, I tell myself, but still shrug them off. I focus on calming down my heart but I still feel the slight tears leaking from my eyes.
I fumble around for my glasses, and after I put them on someone flicks on a lamp. I blink to get my vision to focus and see that it’s Jimin. That’s when I remember I’m in the living room. And Jimin and I were sleeping together on the couch.
“Y/n…it’s just me. I’m assuming you had a bad dream?” Jimin’s voice is soft, quiet as he speaks to me.
I try to speak but my body shudders as I inhale. Jimin grabs a Kleenex for me and I wipe my eyes messily as I try to slow my breathing.
Jimin just sits next to me on the couch, not touching me or trying to speak to me. I appreciate his presence as it gives me a small sense of calm.
After I start to breathe more normally, I try to explain what happened to Jimin.
“I-“ sniffle, “I had a bad dream…” I want to tell the whole story but somehow can’t bring myself to say it.
“It’s okay. You don’t need to explain to me. I’m here for you,” Jimin says, eyes full of sympathy.
“I’m sorry I woke you up,” I whisper.
“Don’t apologize. I’m just glad you’re okay,” Jimin responds, moving slightly closer to me and draping a blanket over my lap.
“What time is it?” I ask, turning my head to look outside. The full-length windows don’t have the blinds pulled down, telling me the boys forgot to shut them yesterday after the movie.
“Around six in the morning. The sun should be coming up soon,” Jimin replies.
“Oh!” I know it’s cheesy, but I’ve always loved sunrises and sunsets. The beauty of nature is something I’ve always admired. Whenever I complained about getting up early for dance practice my mom would always point outside and say, “Be lucky that you can see the blessings of nature.”
“Should we go watch it? We can go to your balcony. Up there’s a perfect spot to see it!” Jimin says, starting to sound a bit excited.
“Okay,” I agree, both for Jimin and I’s hearts.
After grabbing more blankets, we go tiptoeing across the hardwood floor we sneak up the stairs and past the other boys’ rooms. Jimin slides the door to the balcony open and gestures for me to follow him.
Shutting the door silently behind me I settle into one of the wicker chairs, pulling the blanket warmer around me. Jimin sits next to me.
The ethereal shades start to appear and I am once again in awe of nature. How is it that the sun can make such gorgeous tones?
Jimin and I sit in silence for a while, enjoying the show in the sky. After the sun is mostly up, the door slides open again. We both turn around and it’s Namjoon, still in his pajamas.
“What are you two doing up so early?” He asks us, still looking groggy himself.
“We wanted to watch the sunrise!” Jimin chirps, thankfully omitting how I had a nightmare.
Namjoon shakes his head fondly, smiling at us now.
“That tracks. Mind if I join you?” He asks, stepping onto the balcony.
“No, of course not. C’mere Joonie,” Jimin says, making grabby hands at him, “I want to sit in your lap.” His clingy mood must be appearing.
“See y/n? He’s our baby, whether or not he admits it,” Namjoon teases Jimin, making him whine and stand up.
“Just come on!”
Namjoon chuckles but obliges, sitting and pulling Jimin (and the blanket) into his lap. Jimin immediately cuddles into him.
“You’re always so warm Joon,” he half mumbles, practically melting into Namjoon.
I almost coo at them, their soft sides clearly showing in the early hours.
It’s not long before Jin wakes up, dragging a dead looking Yoongi with him as they join us on the balcony.
“Morning you two,” I say, a faint smile on my face while I look at Yoongi.
“Morning y/n! And Jimin. And Namjoon.” Jin greets us brightly, and then, mimicking Namjoon, pulls Yoongi to sit on his lap.
Surprisingly, Yoongi doesn’t put up much of a fight. It’s probably because he looks like he didn’t get a wink of sleep last night.
“Yoongi,” I ask carefully, “How much sleep did you get last night?”
Groaning softly, he buries his head into Jin’s shoulder, effectively avoiding the question.
“What he means to say is that when I woke up he was on his computer in his room, sneakily working.” Jin scolds the soft boy on him, but said soft boy just cuddles deeper into Jin.
“Oh, Yoodles, you shouldn’t do that to yourself,” I say, concerned about how frequently he can’t sleep.
“Mmm sorry,” Yoongi murmurs into Jin’s broad shoulder.
“Yoongi? Apologizing? Wow, you must really be magical, y/n, because he’s usually just a grump.” Jimin says cheekily, earning the middle finger from Yoongi.
“Is that so? Well, I’ve never seen him be grumpy, Jimin, so I’m not sure if that’s factual,” I say, still looking at the cat-like boy.
“Yeah, so shut up Jimin,” Yoongi drawls, slowly turning his head so we can all see the smug look on his face.
“Okay, okay. Let’s just relax and look at the sunrise, you two,” Namjoon says with a tired voice.
We relapse into silence, the breeze adding a slight chill to this autumn morning. The trees are starting to change, showing hints of their gorgeous crimson leaves. Autumn means about two and a half months since leaving him behind, and about two and a half months of being with the boys.
Eventually, double trouble joins us, Taehyung sitting in Jungkook’s lap. Uh oh, this seems to be a pattern. Which means-
“Hey, Hobi-hyung, you should let y/n sit in your lap!” Jungkook blurts out, seeing him linger in the doorway.
I feel my cheeks color, and turn to Jungkook, about to say something, but Jin beats me to it.
“Kook! That might make y/n uncomfortable. Please try to consider how she would feel about this.”
Poor Jin looks exasperated at the bunny, so I quickly say, “It’s okay! I know he didn’t mean anything about it. He probably just saw everyone else doing the same thing. I’m fine with whatever, as long as Hobi is okay with it.”
I turn and see a Hobi that I can only describe as fluffy. Fluffy hair, fluffy clothes, fluffy slippers. (based off of a sleepy fluffy hobi I saw in an instagram reel :))
“Yeah, I don’t care either,” Hobi says, so I stand up and let him have my chair and then sit down (tentatively) in his lap.
“Let me know if you want me to get up,” I say quietly to him, trying to ignore the blush that’s appearing on my cheeks again.
“It’s fine y/n. Besides, we’ll both be warmer this way,” Hobi says, draping the blanket over both of us.
I’m scared of leaning back and try not to feel awkward as the boys start to talk quietly amongst themselves.
“Hey, y/n, I don’t bite, I promise. You can lean back and stuff, it’s fine. Unless you don’t want to, because I’m not going to force you to,” Hobi says, making me more flustered.
“Okay…” I say, and then lean back slowly into his warmth. After I get more comfortable, I realize that Hobi’s practically a heater.
“Hobi, how are you this warm? You’re practically radiating heat,” I say in wonder.
“I think that it’s because he’s blushing~” Jimin singsongs.
I look at Hobi, who’s currently glaring at Jimin. Is he blushing? There is a small tint across his face.
“I am not. And it’s not my fault that I’m warm. I’m just this hot,” Hobi says, now grinning at Jimin, making him roll his eyes.
“Yeah, whatever hyung.”
Taehyung breaks in, “Well y/n sure looks comfy over there.”
All eyes look to me and I cover my face with my hands.
“Guys, please don’t start,” I beg, “I’m just keeping myself warm. It is autumn after all.”
“Suure,” Yoongi drawls, “It’s totally normal for a girl who Hobi used to hate to now sit on his lap.”
Well, when he puts it like that, then yeah I guess it is a bit weird. But now we’re fine! And besides, Jungkook is the one who basically forced us to sit together.
“Y/n blushing! And so is Hobi! Even more than before!” Jimin calls out, a devilish look on his face.
Having had enough, I sigh out of embarrassment.
“Alright, well I think I’ll be going now, I do have class today, and I’m sick of your taunting.” I’m semi-joking about being annoyed, but not really. I just want to escape this awkward situation.
I go to stand up but Hobi doesn’t let me go, his grip on my waist strong.
“Hobi. What are you doing?” I question, confused.
“Yeah Hobi, what are you doing?” Jimin the brat asks, still smirking.
“Just stay for a while longer. You’re warm,” Hobi complains.
He must still be in a sleepy stupor. There’s no way he actually wants me to stay, especially on his lap of all places. But, he looks exhausted, and I don’t mind the warmth either.
“Okay, fine.” I give in, sitting back down.
“Thank you,” he murmurs into my ear, and I feel a small shiver go down my back at his voice.
“Okay, I’ll admit, this is super cute to watch,” Jin says, ignoring the glares Hobi and I send to him.
“Can we please stop talking about y/n and I?” Hobi asks, exasperated.
“Fine, fine.”
~
After much time spent snuggling, we all have to (reluctantly) get up and get ready for the day.
“Oh shit, it’s already 7:15! I’m going to be so late!” Namjoon exclaims, hastily having Jimin get off his lap and rushing inside. Jimin pouts, but then realizes he had to be at the studio fifteen minutes ago.
“HOBI-HYUNG WE HAVE TO GO!” Jimin screams.
“You have to go. I don’t have class until 10:30 today, remember?” Hobi brags smugly.
“You bitch. Whatever!” Jimin leaves the door wide open.
The remaining boys (minus Hobi) are also starting to freak out.
“I have class soon…should I just skip? I don’t really want to go…” Jungkook rambles.
Taehyung is stressing too.
“I have a meeting with my manager but the sketches for the designs aren’t even done yet!”
Jin doesn’t look too worried, but something is bothering him because I hear him say, “…hope the order comes in today. If not, I guess I’ll have to reorder from a different company. One maybe like…”
Yoongi is just face planted into Jin’s broad shoulder. I know he’s trying to ignore his problems, and honestly, I don’t blame him.
“Well, y/n, seems as we’re the only ones who aren’t late for something, unless you have class today,” Hobi says to me.
“Nope. I do have class, but it doesn’t even start until 9:30, so I’m all good, unlike these idiots.” I gesture to the rest of the men on the balcony.
He and I laugh, only slightly enjoying the chaos.
“Loves, why don’t you go get ready? Y/n and I will help you in any way that we can,” Hobi suggests.
Taehyung and Jungkook head inside quickly, but it’s a small struggle to get Yoongi off of Jin.
“C’mon Yoodles, you have to get ready,” I plead. But all I get is more groaning.
“Jin, can you just carry him inside?” Hobi finally asks, frustrated with Yoongi.
“Yeah, sure.”
Jin carries Yoongi inside bridal-style and Hobi and I gather the blankets to take back to the living room.
Heading inside it’s a mad house. All of the boys are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, and it’s almost comical.
“Have you seen my other sock?”
“Why would I steal your tie, Namjoon?”
“How would I know where your sock is? Learn to keep track of your clothes Jungkook!”
“I don’t know, Jimin. Maybe it’s because you like to play pranks constantly?!”
“Wow. Is it always this chaotic?” I ask Hobi, my eyes widening as Jungkook slips and almost falls on the floor.
“Only when they’re running late,” Hobi responds.
“Should we help them now?” I ask, wanting to help them before they embarrass themselves further.
“Yes. You start and I’ll go take the blankets downstairs,” Hobi says, already taking the remaining blankets from my arms.
“Okay,” I say, already walking to a struggling Namjoon. He’s stuck by the stairs frantically trying to put on his found tie.
“Here, let me.” I quickly knot it and button the cuffs on his shirt.
“Thanks y/n!” He gives me a quick peck on the top of my head and speeds down the stairs, hardly aware of what he just did.
Must be an instinctive thing, I think. I don’t have time to dwell on the kiss before I divert my attention to Taehyung and Jungkook, who are currently looking for the latter’s lost sock in his room.
“Jungkook, can’t you wear other socks?” I ask, going into his room. I audibly gasp at the mess that is his room.
“If you would clean your room maybe this wouldn’t happen!” I exclaim, making Jungkook roll his eyes as he looks under his unmade bed.
“Can it y/n. I don’t want to hear it right now. Now, are you going to help or stand there gaping?”
“I don’t even know what the sock looks like!” I complain, throwing up my hands.
“It’s this,” Taehyung says, holding up a basic white Calvin Klein sock.
“Seriously? Jungkook! You can wear another pair!” I say, looking for another pair in his dresser.
“Actually I can’t,” Jungkook says, stopping looking for a second to cross his arms at me.
“And why not?” I retort.
“Because all my other socks are dirty,” is the proud response.
“Jungkook!” I throw my hands up yet again, amazed how a grown man can act like a teenager.
“Hey you two, stop arguing! Y/n, just look for the damn sock, okay?” Taehyung asks me, annoyed with our banter.
“Fine.”
After deep searching for a bit, Jungkook finds it under a pile of black tshirts.
“Found it!” He cries triumphantly, rushing to put it and the other one on.
“Great,” says Taehyung, “Now I’m going to go get ready. Kook, if you leave without me I’ll burn your favorite bucket hat!” He hops over piles of clothes and dashes to his room.
“I’m going to go help someone else now,” I say, starting to walk out. But Jungkook grabs my arm.
“Wait, y/n. I wanted to apologize for earlier. On the porch. I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable with the Hobi-hyung lap thing. I really didn’t think about it,” he says, doe eyes apologetic.
I don’t respond for a moment, body heating up at how close Jungkook is.
“Hey, y/n? Hello? I’m sorry?”
I snap out of it. They’re just cute men and I’m just getting over my ex.
“What? Oh, yeah. I forgive you silly.” I manage to get out.
“Yay! Thanks y/n!” Jungkook hugs me for a brief second, pulling away far too quickly for my liking. He looks into my eyes after, evil-looking smile starting to form.
“What?” I ask, nervous.
“Nothing. I’ve got to go, see you later y/n.” With that, he runs out, screaming “Tae hurry up!”
I sigh after he leaves, tired of my little crush getting in the way of a good friendship, and confused about Jungkook. Pushing down my thoughts I run out to go help the others.
Looking downstairs, I see Namjoon and Hobi talking, Namjoon tapping his foot. Who would he be waiting on?
I decide to head to look for Jin to see if he needs anything, but pause after passing Yoongi’s room. There’s Jin, sitting with Yoongi at the foot of the bed.
“Hey Jin, how can I help?” I ask, noting how Jin is only half dressed, his patterned pajama pants still on.
“Help Yoongi. Please. Get him to go to work.”
Yoongi still won’t go?
Jin continues, “I have to go or Namjoon will kill me. Thank you y/n!” He leaves quickly, leaving me with a dead Yoongi.
“Hey Yoongi. How can I help you?” I ask, sitting down next to him.
“Can you go to my work? I don’t want to produce music,” Yoongi complains, putting his head on my shoulder, much like he did with Jin earlier.
“Oh Yoodles. I know work isn’t your most favorite thing in the world, but don’t you find some joy in it?” Surely there must be a reason for his job.
“I guess…”
“You get to work with amazing and talented people and help them to achieve their dreams!” I try to hype him up, which semi-works.
“I guess so…” he says reluctantly.
“You’re a dream maker! So, get on up and go help make dreams happen!” I cheer.
“Damn. You really have a way of making me feel guilty y/n,” Yoongi says, slowly getting up and moving to his closet.
“Great! I’m glad it worked,” I say happily, leaving to let him have his privacy.
Now, who else is left? Namjoon and Jin left, Jungkook and Taehyung are almost ready, Yoongi’s finally alive-ish…that only leaves-
“JIMIN-HYUNG!”
I whip my head to the loud shout coming from downstairs. Sure enough, there’s Taehyung, Jungkook, and Jimin. Jimin’s tickling Taehyung on the floor and Jungkook’s recording it. Hobi is nowhere to be seen.
I dash down the stairs, putting my hands on my hips.
“Guys, you’re already late as it is. What’s the point of this?”
Jungkook just grins, enjoying the show, while Jimin says, “TaeTae here decided that it was a good idea to dye my sweatshirt neon orange.”
“I-I’M SORRY HYUNG!” Taehyung screeches out, breathless.
“Mmm…” Jimin just ignores him and Jungkook just keeps recording. Looks like it’s up to me to save poor Tae. I know I can’t physically pull Jimin off of him, but if I could get Jungkook to stop him…
“Jungkook, how would Professor Choi feel if you were late to class?” I ask him, raising my eyebrows. Professor Choi is a stickler for punctuality, and if Jungkook was late this would get him on Choi’s bad side.
“Shit, I do have Choi today. C’mon Jimin, let Tae go. Choi’s going to have my head!” Jungkook is frantic now, pulling Jimin off a tired Taehyung.
“Hey, you’re no fun Kook.” Jimin pouts, but Jungkook just drags Taehyung out the door.
“Bye y/n!”
The door shuts.
“What just happened?” Hobi says, coming out of the bathroom, “It sounded like someone was dying.”
I turn to Jimin and say, “This rascal was tickling Taehyung and not letting him and Jungkook leave.”
Jimin sticks his tongue out at me.
“Tattletale!”
“Yeah yeah whatever. Jimin, you need to leave now or else you’re going to be more late. Go.” Hobi says firmly.
“But-“
“No buts. Go. Now.”
“What if I don’t want to?” Jimin says cheekily, crossing his arms. Wow, he must really not want to go teach.
Hobi’s eyes become slits as he takes a couple steps to Jimin, making him slightly nervous. Eventually Jimin’s backed up into the dining table. Hobi has his hands on either side of Jimin, effectively trapping him.
“You will go to work. Or else I will make you. I will drive you there myself and sit in your class to watch you.” Hobi’s voice is fully darkened now, dangerous look in his eyes.
Jimin just shudders slightly, his confidence gone.
“Be a good boy for me.”
This command makes Jimin swallow and say quietly, “Yes, Hobi-hyung.”
“Good.” With that, Hobi steps back and lets Jimin leave.
What did I just see? I must look shocked because Hobi turns to me and laughs.
“Don’t look so scared y/n! Jimin’s just a brat sometimes and needs to be taught to listen to his elders.” The happy Hobi is back?
“Jimin’s always a brat, Hobi,” says Yoongi, coming down the stairs in a nice button down and slacks, foregoing his usual comfy clothes.
“Yeah yeah, I know. Someone’s got to teach him a lesson sometimes,” Hobi says, going to put him arm around Yoongi’s shoulders, “By the way, looking good today, babe. Not the usual sweats I see,” He teases.
“Fuck off. I have a meeting today and I have to dress nice,” Yoongi says, trying to shove Hobi’s arm off but failing.
Hobi just laughs and pulls Yoongi into a kiss.
“Love you too babe.”
I divert my eyes, feeling like I’m interrupting a sweet moment.
“Hobi, I love you too, but I have to go,” says Yoongi, pulling away.
“Okay fine. But I want to kiss you lots when you come home today, okay?“ Hobi says, pout evident on his face.
“Okay, my sunshine. I’ll be back tonight around five, just for you.” Yoongi leaves with one last peck.
It’s quiet now, only Hobi and I in the house. I collapse on the living room couch, appreciating how I sink into the beige cushions.
Hobi sits in an armchair, looking tired as well.
“Well, now it’s just you and me. For a while, anyway,” he says, closing his eyes.
“Yep. I still have about an hour before I have to leave, so I guess I’ll go get ready,” I say, but don’t move. Why is this couch so comfy?
“Cool.” Hobi closes his eyes, ready to fall back asleep.
I lie there for a couple more minutes before I force myself upstairs.
Jimin’s orange-dyed hoodie lies on the floor outside his room, forgotten. I pick it up and decide to put it in his room, as to not have clothes just lying around. Opening the door I turn on the light. Stepping inside I lay the hoodie on a chair, and turn to leave, when I see a notebook open on his desk. It looks like he’s written out choreography.
Taking a step I look and indeed, it’s choreography for a beautiful contemporary dance. It’s a partner dance, with plenty of lifts and moves done together. Huh, I wonder who Jimin made this for. The only other person I can think of is Hobi, but he mostly dances hip-hop.
Then I see the title on the top of the page.
Y/n’s dance
Why would Jimin choreograph a dance for me? And is he the partner?
I rush out of the room, confused. This seems to be a very intimate and special thing, so why would Jimin do this for me? Why not one of his boyfriends?
I go inside my room and get ready, the dance still on my mind. After throwing on random clothes (that I hope are clean) I grab my backpack and go downstairs.
Hobi’s seems to be sleeping again on the armchair, so I quietly open my laptop and double check that I have my homework done. I’m anxious to distract myself from the questions swirling inside my head.
After confirming that I finished my assignment, I stand up to go. After putting my sneakers on I realize that I have to catch the bus today. Usually one of the boys (most likely Jungkook) drives me to class, but they’re all gone and I don’t want to wake Hobi
Just as I’m about to leave, a rough voice says, “Wait, y/n, I’ll drive you.”
I turn and there’s Hobi, rubbing his eyes as he stands up, stretching.
“Oh, Hobi, it’s okay! Sleep a little longer before you have to get to class,” I say, feeling bad that I woke him up.
“It’s fine, y/n. I should probably be there soon anyways, so let me get my shoes on.” Hobi puts a cap on and pulls on his high tops.
Grabbing his keys and bag we head out.
The drive is nice, peaceful. The radio plays quietly in the background, but it’s at a comfortable volume.
Pulling up, I grab my backpack and hop out.
“Thanks for the ride Hobi!” I say, waving as he drives off.
“You two seem to be better,” remarks Hwasa, who’s standing there with Felix and Jackson.
“Oh! Hi guys, I didn’t see you! And yes, we’re better now,” I say, thinking back to the fateful day at the studio.
“Mhmm…interesting. I thought you hated each others’ guts?” Jackson asks, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
“Shut up Jackson,” I say, turning to Felix, “Anyways, how are you?”
“Hey!”
“Shut up Jackson. And I’m fine, I guess. But I had a shit ton of homework this past week. Like, who assigns three different research assignments for a week? That’s barely enough time!” Felix complains.
“I know, right?” I say, feeling for Felix.
But then I look at my watch. “Crap, I’ve got to go. Foundations of Ed awaits!” I feign excitement, but it’s sarcastic.
“Let me walk with you. My class is near there, remember silly?” Hwasa says, linking arms with me.
“Oh yeah, I forgot. Bye boys!” We wave goodbye to Felix and Jackson as we walk down the brick pathway.
“Okay, now that they’re gone, I have a question. What really happened between you and Hobi?” Hwasa immediately jumps to the point.
I sigh.
“Hwasa, nothing happened. We just so happened to agree to get along. I guess you could say we’re friends now, but nothing more.”
“Suuure,” Hwasa says with a roll of her eyes.
“Oh! I wanted to ask you something,” I say quietly, making sure no one is super close to us.
“Hit me girl! I’ll answer to the best of my ability,” says Hwasa, matching my tone.
“Well…you know how you said earlier that the boys are into girls too? What did you mean by that?”
“Exactly what I said! They might not look it, but they def swing both ways. The maknaes especially. But, don’t let that fool you. The older ones also are a sucker for cute girls like you,” Hwasa teases, us now approaching my building.
“Shh! Don’t say that. I was just curious is all,” I say, nudging her.
“I’m sure. Now, you have fun in class and don’t think too hard about the boys!” Hwasa leaves me with a wink.
I sigh before heading to class.
Going to my far corner seat, I see that the chair beside me is still empty. That’s not uncommon, as Seungmin is usually almost late (much to Professor Shin’s dismay).
Sure enough, two minutes until class starts Seungmin comes sliding in, looking as tired as he normally does.
“Hey, Seungmin,” I say, pulling out my assignment as he rests his head on his desk.
“Hey y/n,” He murmers, closing his eyes.
I hit him on the head with my (now) rolled up paper and he whines.
“Why did you do that?”
“Because! Professor Shin is going to be really mad at you, once again. Just sit up and act like you’re paying attention. If you do that I’ll give you my notes later.”
This compromise makes the boy sit up and actually look alert for once.
I laugh at how easy that was.
~
After class Seungmin and I walk downstairs together.
“I’ll send you the notes this evening, okay?” I say to him.
“Okay, thanks again y/n!”
We reach the door and he opens it for me, ever the gentlemen.
Now’s the time where we normally part ways, but Seungmin stops me before I can say goodbye.
“Hey, y/n, I have to tell you something,” he says worriedly.
My brain immediately starts running a million different scenarios. Does he not want to be my friend anymore? Does he not want to be desk partners anymore?
“So there’s this rumor going around that you’re just using the Bangtan boys as your sugar daddies and don’t actually care about them-“ Seungmin starts rambling.
A rumor? Who in the world would be crazy enough to make a rumor that I’m a sugar baby? And with the boys of all people!
“-but I don’t believe it because you’re so nice and always letting me copy your notes but that’s what it is and-“ Poor Seungmin is still going.
“Seungmin,” I reach out to place my hand on his arm, “Slow down. Please. Who told you this?”
“I heard it from Chan who heard it from Han who heard it from Solar who heard it from Hwasa who heard it from Haneul.” Seungmin is now slightly breathless from all the names.
So it is Haneul. I had my suspicions but needed to confirm. That girl! I’m not trying to get into drama but she just keeps creating it.
“Thank you for telling me Seungmin,” I say, giving him a side hug. Why didn’t Hwasa tell me?
“Of course, y/n,” says Seungmin as he accepts the hug. He smells like a candle, warm and strong.
We pull away and I try my best to smile.
“I really do appreciate it,” I say genuinely.
“You’re welcome. And trust me! I don’t believe these rumors and I tell everyone who believes it that it’s not true. I promise I defend you y/n!”
“Thank you. That means a lot. I wish my other friends would‘ve told me.” My brain still wonders why Hwasa didn’t tell me.
“Well, I’m glad I could make you aware. I have to go, Chan’s waiting, but see you later!” He waves goodbye and goes to a handsome man who I assume is ‘Chan.’
‘Chan’ gives me a look as he leads Seungmin away, and it seems like he doesn’t like me. Guess I’ll have to add him to the list.
I’m walking to go eat lunch and text Hwasa on the way there.
me: why didn’t u tell me about the rumor?
It’s on sent still when I reach my usual picnic table. I sit down, waiting for Jackson and Hwasa. Then I get a text from Jackson.
jackson: Hey sorry to skip lunch but Hwasa and I are working on a project :(
There goes me being able to question Hwasa in person. My only hope is that she replies to my text.
I pull out my lunch and am about to eat when I see Haneul and her friends walking up to me. Great.
“Hey y/n!” She says cheerfully, stopping in front of me.
“Hey Haneul,” I say, trying to not show any emotion.
“How are you today?” She asks sweetly.
But her friends blow her nice girl cover, giggling behind their hands.
“I’m fine. How are you?” Hopefully if I act disinterested she and her friends will leave.
“Fine. How’s being a sugar baby?”
I can’t believe she can so blatantly ask that, but with her track record it’s not surprising.
“Haneul, I’m not a sugar baby. You of all people should know how kind the boys are,” I say, giving up a quiet lunch. Maybe I can go hide out in an empty classroom until my Psych class?
These words send Haneul over the edge, as she suddenly shouts out “Just shut up you bitch!” Her hands are balled into fists and her eyes burn into me.
“Just admit it! I don’t understand how some people can’t see what a gold digger you are! You just so happen to stumble upon the boys and live with them? I say it’s not a coincidence! Stop pretending to be a good girl and drop the act! Admit it!”
Hanuel’s practically screaming by now, and many heads have turned to look at us.
I am trying to think of something to say, but freeze. Too many eyes are on us and I don’t want to provoke her more in case she gets violent. That’s what always happened with my ex. I thought that I escaped these situations.
“I’m sorry for anything I did to make you feel this way,” I finally whisper, trying to not draw more attention.
“You’re so fucking stupid, thinking no one would find out.” Haneul utters this sentence and I feel the start of tears form in my eyes. I swallow, attempting but failing to lose the lump in my throat.
Trying to escape, I grab my stuff and make to go anywhere but here. Haneul isn’t done, though.
“I think you’re just sleeping with them in order to live with them! What else would a poor, stupid, gold digger do?”
I force myself to start running, even with the heavy weight of my backpack. I head in a random direction as best as I can.
“Fucking loser!” Haneul shouts behind me.
I’m just grateful that she’s not following me.
Finding a secluded corner under a tree I finally drop my stuff and sit. I feel the tears trickle down my cheeks slowly, my resolve crumbling now that I’m alone.
Why is it I always end up in these situations?
Maybe I should go live in the dorms. That would solve this problem. I should try to distance myself from the boys, so then hopefully there won’t be any more rumors.
My whole body is still as I sit underneath the tree. The tears are dried on my cheeks but my glasses are smudged, and I know I’m getting my clothes dirty.
It all doesn’t matter right now.
I sit there for a while, lost in my thoughts.
After a bit, my phone dings and I check it, grateful for a distraction.
Opening my messages, I hope that it’s Hwasa.
Instead, it’s Jungkook.
jungkookie 🍪 : What the fuck just happened between u and Haneul?
a/n: thanks for reading! 💗
I'm trying to prove a point to my brain: Reblog if you think fanfiction does not need sex to be good.
There is a trend I’ve noticed that smut fics tend to be much more popular than anything else and honestly I just want to have something to look at to remind myself and that writing doesn’t have to have sex to be worth putting out into the community.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………
The next day I wake up at ten, thankfully being able to sleep in a bit later today. That and I also was not woken up by the maknaes. I stretch and rub my eyes then grab my glasses.
I go about my mundane morning routine, showering and brushing my teeth and attempting to tame my hair. I slip into jeans and look for a sweatshirt. Just my luck, it’s laundry day for me and I don’t have any clean ones.
I grab a t-shirt and change then go into Jungkook’s room. He’s at the film festival again so it’s dark. I switch on the lights and roll my eyes at his messy room. Stepping over piles of schoolwork and clothes (is that my tshirt?) I reach his closet. Sifting through I choose a navy blue sweatshirt with a tiny anchor embroidered in the corner. It’s one of my favorites of his and so soft to wear.
I change then head downstairs. Namjoon is at the table reading while drinking coffee and I can see Jimin and Hobi in the living room watching tv.
“Good morning Y/n,” Namjoon says, putting down his book.
I smile. There’s something about him looking so domestic that makes me warm.
“Good morning Namjoon. Is everyone else at their events already?” I ask, grabbing a piece of toast and buttering it.
“Yep. Remind me, what time were you going to visit Tae?” He asks as I take a bite.
I chew and swallow then respond, “11:30 or so.”
“Ah okay,” Namjoon says as Jimin and Hobi come over.
“Hey Y/n!” Jimin’s very energetic this morning, but that’s nothing new.
What is new is that he gives me a giant hug and I laugh as I’m almost bowled over.
“Hi?” I ask, confused at why he’s so giddy.
“Guess what?!” He asks, making me scrunch my brows.
“What?” It’s like talking to a five year old.
“I have a gift from Tae to you!” He cheers, grabbing my hand excitedly.
I feel warm at his touch, but try to ignore it, as I always do.
“That’s so sweet of you and Tae,” I say, thinking of how it was just yesterday that I got a new dress from Namjoon (even if Jungkook spilled coffee on it).
“Let’s go get it now!” Jimin pulls me gently to the stairs and I look at Hobi and Namjoon but they just wave us on, grinning.
“Is it another dress, Jimin?” I guess, based on how Taehyung is literally a fashion designer.
“Nope. Tae wanted to do something different, so he and I came up with another idea.” We’re in front of Taehyung’s room and Jimin opens the door without a second thought.
“Now, where did he put it?” He asks absentmindedly, searching through Taehyung’s desk drawers.
I just stand there awkwardly, unsure of what to do with myself.
“Aha! Here it is.” Jimin gives me a small box that looks suspiciously like a ring box.
“Well, open it!” Jimin urges.
I hesitantly open the velvet box, and there inside is a gorgeous ring. I gasp as the precious gems shine in the light of Taehyung’s chandelier.
Jimin has a soft smile on his face, a stark contrast to his previous childlike energy.
“Do you like it?” He asks quietly, and I can feel him looking at me.
“It’s gorgeous,” I whisper, unsure of how I can even wear this properly. It’s meant for the rich main lead in a kdrama, not a broke college student like myself.
“Let’s put it on.”
Jimin takes it carefully out of the box and slips it onto my right ring finger. It’s perfectly snug there, and I can’t stop staring at the way the stones glisten and gleam in the warm light.
“You know, there’s a meaning behind each stone,” Jimin says.
I look at the big stone, which so happens to be my birthstone, and the seven smaller ones nestled around it.
“The big one is your birthstone, obviously,” Jimin says, then points to the smaller ones around it, “And these are all of our birthstones. It took a while to make, but it was worth it.”
Jimin looks at me and I look at him. We lean in closer, and my breath hitches. I study his face. The shape of his brows, the crinkle of his eyes and the deep color of them. The slope of his nose and his perfect pink lips. He’s so beautiful; an angel in both inside and out.
He blinks and I snap out of my stupor. I lean back into normal proximity and thank him.
“Oh, Jimin. It’s so wonderful,” I say, trying to make my voice sound normal and not as if we were just about to kiss, “You and Tae are so creative.”
“I’m so glad you like it. Make sure to wear it to his gallery.”
Jimin looks like he wants to say something else, but doesn’t. Instead he nods then leaves.
I stand there looking at the ring. Specifically the seven stones that circle my birthstone. The shades of purple, white, and three hues of blue shine bright. This gift feels more meaningful than all the others.
It’s almost like…a promise ring.
~
I drive to Tae’s gallery and park. The ring sparkles all the way there, and I decide it looks better in the sunlight.
I hop out of the car and lock it. Stowing the keys away in my purse I make my way into the fashion gallery. This event is honestly more casual than the art gallery that Namjoon and I went to yesterday so my jeans and Jungkook’s sweatshirt looks normal here. It’s funny to see everyone in casual clothing around avant-garde clothing, though.
I look at the signs and make my way to Tae’s gallery. Each designer has ten pieces they’re showing, and I pass some amazing pieces on my way to Tae’s. Just like the art gallery, the designers have the option to sell some (or all) of their clothing.
Finally I see a familiar face. Scratch that, two familiar faces. What’s Jungkook doing here?
Taehyung’s face lights up as he sees me and waves me over.
“Y/n!”
I walk faster and Jungkook turns around and grins too.
“Hey guys!” I bounce on my toes, excited to see them.
They laugh and Jungkook says, “You’re probably wondering why I’m here, right Y/n?”
I nod, and say “Yes! Wait, no, but not in a bad way. Just like curious because I thought you had to be at the film festival-“
“It’s all good Y/n. I’m here because…” Jungkook trails off and I want to smack him.
“Just spit it out!” I frustratedly say.
“Fine. Because I wanted to be,” he cheekily says.
I scoff at his answer.
“Wow, Y/n that ring looks so great on you!” Tae burst out, reaching and inspecting my finger.
“Wait, you really went through it?” Asks Jungkook, also now looking at my finger.
“Yes. Don’t I have good taste, Kookie?” Taehyung boasts.
“Fine. I will admit that it looks great, babe,” Jungkook admits, snapping a photo of it with my phone.
I pull my hand away, embarrassed, then say, “Thank you both. Now can we look at Tae’s designs?”
Jungkook and Taehyung cheekily grin at my reaction.
“Of course.”
Taehyung gives us a tour of his ten pieces.
“So, my theme for this collection is love,” he explains, walking us back to the start of his designs.
“It’s so cliche,” Jungkook whispers loudly to me, making me stifle a giggle. Taehyung acts like he didn’t hear him and carries on.
“Each design is inspired by one of the boys, myself included. Because self-love is important too, right? But each design is more detailed than what a normal person would wear. The remaining two represent our love as a whole,” he says.
That’s so cool-wait. That’s only nine. What about the last one?
“Wow, I love that they inspired you. That’s so sweet,” I praise, still curious about the last piece.
“Thank you. Now, Y/n, I have a challenge for you,” Taehyung says, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“What?” I ask suspiciously.
“Try to guess which designs are inspired by each of my boyfriends,” Taehyung challenges.
I agree, only because we’re celebrating Taehyung’s designs so I feel bad saying no to him.
“Hmmm…” I wonder aloud. This should be easier than it is. My first guess is that the black and white ensemble represents Jungkook. It has his signature chunky boots, and I look closer and see that they are embroidered with thin silver thread.
“That one’s Jungkook.” I point and Taehyung claps his hands.
“That’s correct! Kookie has a very distinct style, so I’m honestly not surprised that you guessed his first.” We go over to the outfit as Taehyung explains more.
“I went with the black and white ensemble because it represents Kook’s duality. He may seem deep and dark, wearing black and having tattoos, but in reality he’s as pure at the color white, kind and caring.” Taehyung gives Jungkook a kiss on the cheek as Jungkook’s blushes at the description of his outfit.
“Stop it hyung,” he whines, but allows the older boy to pepper kisses on his face.
“You know you like it Kookie,” Taehyung says, squishing Jungkook’s cheeks.
“Just guess Y/n!” Jungkook exclaims in an effort to draw the attention away from him.
I scan the remaining outfits and point to the one that looks like a stylish rainbow exploded on it.
“That’s Hobi’s, right?” Only his could be so colorful.
“Correct! Our Hobi-hyung is a bright soul, so I tried to represent that with this piece. I incorporated his street style too,” Taehyung proudly states, showing me the chic yet hip hop-eque outfit.
I guess next that the dark yet layered outfit is Yoongi.
“Correct again! Yoongi-hyung’s was an interesting outfit to create,” Taehyung explains, “He has so many different levels and layers to him, like an onion. Some seem dark, yet when you peel them all back, he’s really just a generous and understanding soul.” It definitely represents Yoongi; he can be aloof at the beginning but once you get to know him he’s such a warm person.
It’s difficult to choose which one is Jin but I eventually settle on the one that is soft yet also sharp.
“That’s Jin,” I say, hoping I’m correct.
Jungkook whistles.
“Damn, Y/n, I’m impressed. I even had difficulty figuring it out,” he says.
“Yep that’s Jin-hyung,” Taehyung says, “His represents the delicate balance between his personality. He is a kind and caring person, but also has boundaries and has respect for himself.”
Damn. Taehyung really captured the boys in all their deep personalities.
“Is this one Namjoon?” The outfit has a sort of scholarly appearance, yet there’s a heavier feeling to it.
“It is. Joon-hyung is a very intelligent person, yet he wears pressure on his back. He often feels that he has to provide and care for us more than the others because of his profession,” Taehyung explains.
I must look confused because Jungkook elaborates.
“Namjoon-hyung is the only one of us that doesn’t have an ‘artsy’ career, per se. Because of that he feels the need to prove to us that he’s worthy of being in our creative relationship.”
What? That’s crazy.
“That is such a stupid reason to feel inferior for!” I exclaim, “He’s so smart and teaching is one of the hardest jobs out there! It also requires some sort of creativity, doesn’t it?” To think that brilliant and kind Namjoon feels this way is crazy.
“You’re absolutely right, Y/n. We’re so glad you think this too,” Jungkook says, looking me dead in the eyes.
I stare back, coming to realize how dark his eyes are. They’re captivating me, pulling me in deeper and deeper until-
“Ahem.”
Taehyung coughs and I jump, while Jungkook just continues to stare.
“Right…so I guess I need to choose which one is you and which one is Jimin,” I say uncomfortably, trying to ignore Jungkook’s prolonged staring.
“Yep. Choose between these two.”
I study the outfits. They’re clearly a pair, one representing the day and the other the night.
The day piece is dazzling, cream and honey hues blended together to create a show stopping outfit. There are crystals sewn together to make a sun pattern and if an outfit could glow, this would be it. There’s also a singular royal blue thread sewn in it, something I assume to represent the night.
If the day outfit is meant to glow, the night one is meant to sparkle. The deepest shade of navy catches the light and show the shimmers of the fabric. Deep jewel colored crystals make an abstract galaxy. Similarly to the day piece, the night one has a single golden thread running through it.
“I think that Jimin is the sun piece and you’re the galaxy piece.” I’m unsure as I say this, but I’ve clearly made the right decision because Jungkook finally stops peering into my soul and breaks into a grin.
I sigh a breath of relief.
“You’re really good at this, Y/n,” Taehyung says.
“Explain the meaning behind them, Tae,” Jungkook urges.
Taehyung’s face becomes dreamy and he smiles softly.
“Well, Jiminie and I are soulmates. He’s the day to my night. I made the day piece to try to capture how bright and vibrant he is. He makes me so happy, and I wanted him to know he’s my sun.”
My eyes trace Taehyung’s face and his expression. He’s irrevocably infatuated just simply speaking about his love. I feel my eyes well slightly, wondering just how one person can love another that much.
“That’s the most beautiful thing,” I murmer, blinking my tears away.
“Thank you. I in many ways feel that I am not worthy of my Jiminie, but he continues to praise me even though I don’t think I deserve it,” Taehyung says, tearing his eyes away from the golden dress.
“Don’t say that, from what I’ve seen you two and everyone else in your guys’ relationship are perfect for each other. It’s as if the individual pieces of your souls came together to love one another.” I struggle to try to explain what I mean.
Jungkook quirks his head.
“Say, Y/n, have you ever been in love before?”
The question throws me off guard. Have I ever been in love before?
“Um, I’m not sure. That’s a pretty deep question,” I stutter out, even though I know the answer.
No.
“Well, yeah, but I’m curious.” Jungkook shrugs.
Jungkook and Taehyung look at me now, waiting for an answer.
I attempt to give them one.
“I…don’t know if you can call it love, per se,” I start. “I maybe once thought I was in love, but it didn’t work out.”
They look at each other, sympathy (or pity?) in their eyes.
“It’s alright, I understand. Sorry if I made you uncomfortable,” Jungkook apologizes.
I turn back to the remaining dresses.
“It’s okay. Now, can I ask about the remaining dresses?”
“Sure.” As Taehyung goes on to explain that two of the dresses represent his relationship with the boys, I try to ignore the deep pit of sadness in my heart.
~
After he explains I finally point to the last piece, asking what’s been on the tip of my tongue this whole time.
“Okay! Tell me what this is about!” I’m eager to find out the meaning of the ethereal looking dress. It’s honestly my favorite out of the bunch because of the style. It looks like a fairy dress and is made with the airiest material. It seems as if it’s floating, even while on the mannequin.
Taehyung’s mouth quirks and he responds, “It’s a secret.”
“Whyyyy?” I whine, but Taehyung and Jungkook just laugh at my pouty expression.
“Because. I can’t tell you now, but I will eventually,” Taehyung promises.
“Fine,” I grumble, giving a look of distain to the dress. It may be beautiful (alright, it’s one of the most gorgeous dresses I’ve ever seen) but I just want to know why he made such a beautiful dress.
“Anyways, want to go to lunch?” Jungkook asks me.
We bid goodbye to Taehyung (who has to stay for the rest of the afternoon) and make our way outside to eat then finish our day.
~
Wednesday arrives with an early start. The film festival is today, and it’s an all day affair. There’s a meet and greet in the morning, a luncheon, a q and a in the afternoon, and finally the showing of the films. We all are going to all the events to support Jungkook and Jin. Jin was in Jungkook’s film as the lead, and I’m really excited to see the outcome.
After getting ready I head downstairs. The hyungs are all sitting at the table having breakfast but the maknaes are nowhere in sight, which doesn’t surprise me.
“Good morning, Y/n,” Jin greets, raising his coffee mug in greeting. Namjoon and Hobi repeat the message while Yoongi just grunts.
“Good morning to you too, Yoodles,” I tease, enjoying the way he pulls himself back into his hoodie.
“The maknaes are still sleeping, if you couldn’t already tell,” Hobi says.
I nod then sit down and start eating some French toast.
“I predict that Jungkook will be the last to get up because he’s so tired from the prep for today,” Namjoon says.
That makes sense. I know that Jungkook took a break yesterday to visit Taehyung’s gallery and go out to lunch with me but this film is very important for his future career.
After a couple minutes of a peaceful breakfast, Jimin and Taehyung come loudly down the stairs.
“What time is it? Are we late?” Jimin asks, hastily buttoning his shirt while Taehyung pulls on his socks.
“No you guys are fine,” Namjoon assures them, “Jungkook isn’t even awake yet.”
They visibly relax.
“Come eat,” I encourage, gesturing to the table.
They thank me then plop down tiredly.
We all finish eating, having quiet conversations and just soaking in the morning sunlight streaming in from the windows.
Jin checks his watch.
“Hmm. Someone needs to go wake Jungkook up or else he’ll be late. Any volunteers?” He asks.
Jimin does and we all clean up but save some french toast for Jungkook.
“Everyone, meet back down here in 30! Team, break!” Hobi cheers, our sign to go get ready.
I too go upstairs to change into something nicer. I search through my closet and find my favorite sundress and put it on. I fix a bow in my hair and grab my wedges. Taehyung’s ring sparkles on my dresser, and I hesitate before gingerly slipping it on.
I’m checking my phone when I leave my room and bump into Yoongi.
“Yoongi? What’s up?” I ask, shoving my phone into my purse.
“Hobi wanted me to tell you that you’re sitting shotgun,” Yoongi says, looking put out.
“Aww, is that why you came all the way over here?” I say, thinking about the short distance that it took for Yoongi to walk from his room to mine.
“Shut up. We leave in ten.” With that, Yoongi walks slowly off, looking like a tired middle aged father.
I shake my head, grinning at the image in my head. Then I head downstairs to put on my shoes.
“Here, let me,” Jin says, already waiting at the door. He looks good in a button up and nice jeans that hug his ass. Wait, what?
“Thanks Jin,” I say, surprised at the princess like treatment, but accept it anyways. It is a pain to put on taller shoes in a dress.
“Of course honey,” Jin says, going back to waiting by the door.
He’s says it like a casual nickname, except it feels intimate to me.
“Aish, these boys. I love them, I really do, but they are always running late. HURRY UP!” He yells.
“Coming, coming!” Namjoon is rushing down with Yoongi and Hobi following close behind.
“Where are the maknaes?” Jin asks them as they put their shoes on.
“Dunno. They all converged in Jungkook’s room and haven’t come out yet,” Hobi explains.
“Goddamn it. We’re gonna to be late. I’ll go get them,” Jin says, shaking his head as he hastily takes his shoes off and storms upstairs. “YAH! MAKNAES!”
I chuckle then turn to Hobi.
“Yoongi over here told me I’m riding shotgun? I feel like that someone else should take it, not me,” I say. Why would I get a whole seat to myself if the boys are squished in the back?
“Because we can’t have you ruining your pretty outfit, precious,” he says, adjusting my bow in my hair.
“Oh. Well it’s really okay. I don’t want the boys to have to squish in the back,” I say as Jin comes down scolding the maknaes.
“It’s fine, really. Don’t worry so much. Now, let’s go!”
Before I can say another word Hobi ushers me out to the door and opens the car door for me.
I try to protest again but he just gives me a look and I reluctantly get into.
Jungkook takes the wheel while Yoongi, Hobi, and Jimin take the back row. Jin, Namjoon, and Taehyung squeeze in the middle row.
“Sorry guys,” I say apologetically, turning to look at them squished in like sardines.
“It’s fine, sweetheart,” Yoongi says, putting his arm around Hobi.
“Yeah! This way we get to be close to our loves,” Taehyung says, squeezing the life out of Jin, who just fondly rolls his eyes.
“Yep. So let’s go!” Jungkook peals out of the parking lot and I grab onto the door.
“Oh yeah, Jungkook drives kind of crazy, just so you know,” Jimin says, nonchalantly looking out the window.
I knew that he drove a little wild because he’s driven me to class before, but I guess we’re in a rush today so he’s driving a bit crazier.
“Yeah…I know,” I say, trying not to react when Jungkook runs a yellow light.
“Yeah!” He says, grinning widely.
“Yah! Be careful, we don’t want you to crash the car before your film debut, okay?” Jin angrily says, but I can tell it’s just for show. Still, a warning is appreciated.
“I’m fine Jin-hyung. We’re almost there, so hold on!” Jungkook accelerates, which makes my heart also speed up.
Please let us get there in one piece, I think.
After many sharp turns and questionable decisions (at least in my book) we make it to the building.
“Whew, that was a rush,” Hobi says, climbing out of the car.
“Oh whatever Hobi-hyung. I have to go get ready for the meet and greet, so see you guys soon!” Jungkook dashes off and we’re all left standing there.
“We have about an hour before the meet and greet starts, so let’s go look at the exhibits about the films,” Namjoon suggests.
We walk over to the mini outside exhibit and go to Jungkook’s. It’s got a small synopsis of the film and a poster for it. His is called ‘Still With You’ and I get a sense of pride seeing his film company name of Golden Closet Films.
“There’s Jin-hyung!” Taehyung points to the poster proudly and there’s Jin, looking as ethereal as ever dressed in a lavish prince outfit. He’s staring off into the distance in the silvery night as the moon shines down on him.
“Wow. Aren’t I handsome?” Jin jokes, mimicking his dreamy gaze that’s on the poster.
“Yeah yeah, we know. Now, let’s take a picture in front of our Jungkookie’s poster!” Hobi exclaims, passing his phone off to a stranger, “Excuse me, could you take our picture?”
“I can,” I say, reaching for it but he shakes his head.
“No, you’re going to be in it silly,” he says, like it’s the most normal thing ever.
“But-“
“No buts. You’ve been living with us long enough, just be in the picture.” They all insist so I squeeze in between Hobi and Jimin.
“Smile!” Says the person.
I grin as there’s a click.
“Great! Now a silly one,” they say.
Everyone instantly makes a goofy face. I act surprised and give Jimin bunny ears.
Click!
“These are so good! Thank you,” Hobi says, retrieving his phone.
The stranger nods then walks away. We all gather around to look at the photos.
“Aww, we look so cute. All we’re missing is Kook,” says Taehyung.
Then we look at the silly picture.
“Hah! Look at Yoongi’s face!” Jin jabs his finger to the phot and I look. Yoongi’s deadpanning in the middle of the chaos that’s happening around him.
“He truly is a rock,” Jimin says, poking Yoongi’s cheek.
“Whatever,” Yoongi grumbles, “Let’s just look at the other exhibits.”
~
An hour later it’s time for the meet and greet. It’s basically just a party where the creators walk around and talk about their films.
“Ooh they have mini sandwiches,” I say, beelining to the refreshments table.
“I’ll come with you.” Yoongi, ever the introvert, shoos the other boys away to go find Jungkook so he can avoid people and come with me.
“You don’t have to come with me, I’m a big girl,” I say, amused.
“Just shut up. I need a break from those extroverts.” Yoongi rolls his eye and grabs a cup of punch and I get my mini sandwiches.
“Not a big fan of parties?” I ask, enjoying the peaceful corner we have by the silk covered table.
“What makes you say that?” He smirks as we survey the chatter
and buzz around us.
“Nothing.”
We stand there in peace for a couple minutes before I sigh.
“Jungkook will probably come looking for us soon, so we should go before he finds us,” I say, throwing my plate away.
“Too late.” Yoongi tilts his head to the right and I hear a familiar voice.
“Why are you two hiding over here?” Jungkook’s voice is projected across the room and he comes over to us, dragging all the others boys with him. He’s all dressed up in a tux. Damn, he looks good.
“No reason. Congrats Jungkookie,” Yoongi says smoothly finishing his punch and throwing it away.
“Thanks Yoongi-hyung. I’m so excited for you guys to see it!” Jungkook exclaims enthusiastically.
“Me too!” I say, “It’s going to be so amazing, just judging off the poster alone.”
“It turned out so well! Everything is exactly as I hoped it would be,” Jungkook says.
“Excuse me, are you Jeon Jungkook?” A handsome older man is standing there, a smile on his face.
“Yes, I am.” Jungkook looks slightly shocked and I wonder who this man is.
“Well, I just wanted to say that I look forward to seeing your work. It looks very promising,” handsome man says.
Jungkook bows his head, saying “Thank you Mr. Kim. This means so much coming from you.”
Mr. Kim bows back then winks and takes his leave.
“Oh my god. I can’t believe that just happened!” Jungkook says, bouncing on his toes.
“I’m proud of you Kook, but who exactly was that?” I ask, curious at who made Jungkook so excited.
“That’s Mr. Jongwon Kim. He’s a huge name in the film industry and also happens to be an alumni. He always comes to the film festival but only rarely takes interest in any film,” Jungkook says, intriguing us all, “For him to compliment my work is the highest honor.”
“Wow~our Jungkookie is talented!” Hobi compliments, giving Jungkook a quick kiss on the cheek.
“Stop it hyung!” Jungkook whines, but smiles at Hobi’s affection.
“Yeah, congrats Jungkook,” I say, amazed (but not really) at Jungkook’s reputation in the film industry.
“Thanks Y/n,” Jungkook says, beaming proudly as the rest of the boys shower him with praises.
~
The luncheon is next, but is a relatively boring affair. At least we get free food. And with Jungkook and Jin next to me they make it at least a little entertaining. Jungkook is constantly giving me little tidbits about the people around us (“That boy over there is a nepo baby.”) and Jin is criticizing the food (“This is too bland. What did they put in here, soap?”)
I continuously laugh when I’m by them, but try my best to stifle it in order to not spit my food out.
After the delicious but dreadful luncheon it’s time for the q and a portion of the day. The filmmakers sit at a long table in the front while the audience and various press members sit it in a crowd. It’s very much a press conference and a way for people to brag about their films.
The boys’ and I sit in a row, looking proudly at Jungkook. I can tell he’s a bit nervous, but he’s doing his best.
“Alright, we’ll begin the q and a now! Remember to be respectful, we’re all here to appreciate the art these filmmakers have created!” The director says, then it’s time for the questions.
“This is a question for Frost Films. What inspired you to make your film?” The first question isn’t directed towards Jungkook, and I can tell he’s a bit relieved.
The person answers the question and it continues on.
Jungkook’s eyes drift over towards us and he makes eye contact with me. I smile at him and give him a thumbs up, then a heart. He smiles and looks away.
“Okay! The next question is for Golden Closet Films.” We all perk up at that and Jungkook grabs his mic.
“So, what, or who, inspired Still With You?”
The question is a simple one, yet an important one.
“I would say that my boyfriends definitely inspired my film,” Jungkook says, “Still With You is a story about everlasting love, hence the title. I hope that my boyfriends’ and I have everlasting love and will always stay with me.”
The boys look at Jungkook adoringly and he looks back at them, love showing in his eyes.
“That is such an inspirational story,” the interviewer says, “Thank you for sharing.”
Jungkook nods then shows a small shy smile as he glances down at the boys once again.
“I have a question for Golden Closet Films as well,” the next interviewer says, and the boys and I once again sit up.
“You said your film is about your boyfriends, plural tense. Aren’t you afraid that’s a bit…forward of you?” This interviewer sounds slightly offended, like Jungkook being gay or having multiple boyfriends is wrong.
Jungkook looks a little shocked and I can see the boys grow angry around me.
“Oh hell no. I’m about to go up there.” Namjoon clenches his jaw as he says this.
Yoongi gives him a look and replies “Don’t you dare. Let him handle it.”
Agonizing seconds pass before Jungkook responds.
“I…It’s my film,” says Jungkook hesitantly, “And I wanted to show my love for my boyfriends. If love is too forward, then I suggest you watch another film.”
The boys start clapping and I do too. The audience joins in, and I see Jungkook take a sigh of relief.
“Woo! That’s our Jungkookie!” Hobi whoops and I laugh.
It quiets down again and the q and a continues on. Although there are still a few questions for Jungkook, none are offensive and are instead about the creative process for his film.
~
The q and a lasts longer than I think is necessary before we’re finally standing up and leaving.
“Whew. I thought I’d have to throw hands,” Taehyung whispers to me as he stretches his back.
“I know. That question was so rude,” I say quietly back as we start to walk to get ready to go see the films (yay more sitting…).
“Honestly. Are you excited to see Jungkookie on the red carpet?” Taehyung asks as we make our way outside where the sun is hanging low in the sky.
“Wait, there’s a red carpet?” I ask, now understanding why Jungkook was so formally dressed.
“Yep. So we better take lots of pictures of Kookie,” says Jimin, barging in between Taehyung and I and linking his arms through ours. He starts skipping, making me and Taehyung join in. I think we look similar to the Wizard of Oz characters skipping down the yellow brick road.
“Oh yeah! Let’s see how our baby rocks the red carpet,” Hobi chimes in.
“I’m sure he’ll do great, as he always does.” Namjoon is holding hands with Yoongi and they share a smile thinking about Jungkook.
“That he does,” I say.
We reach the red carpet and there’s already a ton of people there. Photographers are lined up and I can’t see through the crowd.
“Here, Y/n, take this.” Namjoon gives me a lanyard and I put it on. We now can move up closer and we all go to a designated spot for special guests.
“Shouldn’t it just be you guys?” I ask, confused as to why I’m standing here. I should be with the general public. I’m not Jungkook’s girlfriend.
“No, you live with us. You’re a part of this family, Y/n, whether you want to believe it or not,” Namjoon says, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder.
“Yeah. And besides, Jungkook would kill us if you weren’t here,” Yoongi chimes in, casually coming to stand closer to me.
“Oh, well thanks guys.” I’m yet again wrestling with my thoughts. Jungkook cares. They care. Namjoon’s hand is on my shoulder. Yoongi is so close.
“Sure, Y/n, anytime.” Namjoon smiles.
I’m about to respond when my attention is drawn to the red carpet where the crowd is roaring and the photographers are clicking their cameras nonstop.
“It’s them!” Jimin says, trying to see. He cranes his neck so Taehyung grabs his waist and hoists him up a little.
“Hope you can see now, Jiminie,” he teases, enjoying Jimin squirm in his hold.
“Taehyung! Put me down!” He complains, wriggling like a worm until he’s let down and settles for going in the front so he can see better.
“Calm down you brats, Jungkook’s about to go.” Jin is looking to the nervous figure standing by the red carpet.
Jungkook’s nibbling his lip slightly and is constantly adjusting his hair. A woman who is directing people comes over and says something to him. He nods, then straightens up, fixing his tuxedo and ruffling his hair one last time.
The lady goes onto the red carpet as the person prior is ushered off.
“The maker of the film Still With You by Golden Closet Films, Jeon Jungkook,” she states, then leaves and gestures for Jungkook to go on the carpet.
The crowd goes wild, us included.
“JUNGKOOK! WE LOVE YOU!” We all yell in unison, making him grin as he strolls slowly to the middle, the image of confidence, despite being nervous mere moments earlier.
Once in the middle he poses with the elegance of a model and straight up smirks into the cameras. Damn his fucking perfect face. My heart is having palpitations and I swear he looks at me for a brief second. Why do I feel like a crazy fangirl?
“Jungkook!”
“Over here!”
“To the right!”
The photographers shout too many instructions at Jungkook, but he merely turns his body and head slowly, posing for all the cameras.
After a couple minutes of this, a man comes to usher Jungkook off. He waves as he leaves and when he passes by us he winks, but his eyes are trained on me. I look back into his dark ones and I swear that time slows down. But, soon enough, the roar of the crowd comes back and Jungkook’s gone inside.
“You good, Y/n?” Yoongi asks me, ever the observant one.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine,” I say, my eyes trained on the last spot where Jungkook was before he left.
“Okay,” Yoongi says, turning back to the red carpet where another filmmaker is.
I do too, but can’t seem to focus on the person on it. All I can think about is Jungkook. How perfect he looked on the red carpet, how he looked so naturally like a model, how he should’ve been the film star instead of the one making it.
You like him, you like him, the voice in your head taunts. You try to shake it off like normal but it doesn’t go away. And, with the way Jungkook was looking at you, you can’t deny that you feel something stronger than just a simple crush.
“Hey Y/n, you ready to go inside?” Jimin asks, and I blink. All the boys are staring at me and the crowd is thinned.
“Oh, yeah. Let’s go,” I say, trying to snap out of it. I can’t believe I zoned out so much.
The theatre is nothing but grand, with ornate details carve into the stone on the outside. Inside, the marble floor shines as we go to theatre seven where Jungkook’s film is being shown.
“Tickets?” Asks the attendant standing next to Jungkook’s poster with Jin’s face.
Jin produces seven tickets and hands them to the attendant.
“You may order food and drink inside. Enjoy.” She smiles as she pulls back the black velvet curtain. I feel like I’m about to go see an opera, not a film.
“Thank you,”I say to her as I pass.
Inside is grand, just as I expected. Plush crimson crushed velvet seats are set in neat rows, with tables attached to each one for food and drink. The screen is absolutely huge, and I can’t wait to see the film projected on it.
“We’re sitting right in the middle where the best spots are,” Jimin murmers into my ear. I suppress a shudder and nod.
“Jungkook!” Taehyung rushes over to where the lone figure is sitting in the middle row.
“Tae!” He stands up and hugs him then grins at the rest of us, “I’m so excited for you guys to see it!”
“We’re so excited too,” Hobi says, gesturing for us to file in to the row. I somehow end up between Jungkook and Jin. Great, the stars of the show.
“Don’t you guys want to sit next to each other in case of pictures?” I ask them, getting ready to stand and switch.
“No, it’s fine, Y/n, sit,” Jungkook insists, laying his hand on top of mine and forcing me to sit back down.
I’m sat, and cross my arms at Jin’s chuckle.
“Honey, don’t pout. Now, what food should we order?” He pulls out a fancy menu that I didn’t see before.
“Definitely popcorn, but is there anything else you want to eat, Y/n?” Jungkook asks, and I flip through my menu. Everything is supremely overpriced, and is that caviar?
“Are you sure? Even the popcorn’s a lot,” I say, thinking how it better be the best thing I’ve put in my mouth if it costs that much.
“I’m sure. And if you don’t want anything else then I’ll get you a large popcorn with extra butter and a medium cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper,” Jungkook declares.
How does everyone know my drink order? And how did he know that I wanted extra butter?
“Okay, but let me pay you back at the house.” I can’t believe that it costs so much, but with the sheer exterior of this place I should’ve expected this.
“No, it’s fine. Besides, we all get it for free because we’re Jungkook’s guests and he’s a filmmaker,” Jin says, then promptly orders for him and me.
“Are you excited to see my film?” Jungkook asks me eagerly, leaning in and waiting intently for my answer.
“Yeah, I am!” I say, leaning slightly back so we’re not in each other’s personal space.
“I’m glad. Did you have fun at the rest of the festival so far?” Jungkook asks me, leaning in again.
“Um, yeah I did,” I say, still leaning slightly back.
“Mhm. And the after party is going to be awesome too.” By now Jungkook is leaning so far into my space that I am almost leaning against Jin.
“Woah, you okay there?” Jin asks me, gently holding my shoulders as I accidentally knock into his chest. His broad, muscular chest, my brain unhelpfully thinks.
“Yeah, thanks Jin,” I mumble, trying to not sit up too much but also trying to not lie in Jin’s lap.
“Sure, honey. Our food will be here soon, so why don’t you get comfortable?” Jin then gently helps me sit up and much to my dismay I am now face to face with Jungkook.
“You alright, Y/n?” Jungkook asks me, and he’s so close that he can probably hear the loud thumping of my heart. I can smell his cologne, a rich mix between sweet with a slightly more smoky scent underneath. It’s so unique that I feel drawn to him. I wonder if this is his normal cologne, or if I’m just really close to him. Yeah. I’m really close to him. Close enough to almost k-I blink before realizing he asked me a question.
“Sorry, what?” I ask, still dazed by his scent.
“I asked if you were alr-“
“Hello, here are your refreshments. Please let us know if you need anything else. Enjoy the show!” The impeccably dressed waiters deliver our ‘refreshments’ and I take a piece of the popcorn.
Okay, it might not be the best food I’ve ever put in my mouth but it’s pretty damn close. I’m afraid I’ll devour this all before the film even starts.
“Is it good?” Jin asks me and I nod.
The lights suddenly dim, and I can hear Jungkook whisper, “It’s finally starting.”

jungkookie: 🍪: did u get my text
you: ...maybe
jungkookie 🍪: so?
You sigh, mentally debating whether or not you want to go. Tomorrow night is your school's theatre performance that you and Jungkook are going to see together. As much as you were looking forward to it, Jungkook had asked to go out to eat afterwards. which meant that you two would probably end up going with a bunch of others (due to Jungkook's popularity) leading you to do two things that you absolutely hated: staying up late and having to socialize with other people. But, on the other hand, you didn't want to disappoint Jungkook. You know that if you don’t go he wouldn't either, and would end up taking you home instead. While he acted as though he didn’t mind, you knew that he likes to hang out with his friends. And, since he is always with you, you feel guilty if he doesn’t get to hang out with others. So, you decide to suck it up and go, only for Jungkook's sake.
you: okay i'll go out after
jungkookie 🍪: yay ur the best!!
Seeing Jungkook's enthusiastic response made you sigh. Why did you have to have a crush on your best friend? Those hopeful eyes and gorgeous smile have always made you wistful, hoping that maybe, someday, you could tell him the truth. But, alas, you're stuck with admiring him in your heart.
you: yeah yeah whatever
you: see you tomorrow @6
jungkookie 🍪: see u tomorrow!
Well, it is what it is. At least you get to spend more time with Jungkook. Sighing, you turn off your phone and resort to your favorite pastime: binge-watching youtube kpop compilations. You know there are a million other things you could be doing (homework being one of them) but who doesn't love to watch a bunch of (hot) idiots goof around?
~
The next day, school goes by in a blur of the usual 'pretending to pay attention but actually talking to friends’ ritual.
Your to do list grows but you manage to ignore it. That's a later problem.
The first problem right now is picking an outfit for the performance tonight. Your closet looks like it threw up on your bed, and it’s definitely going to be a pain in the ass to pick up all these clothes. At this point all you want to do is curl up with a book and forget about going at all.
Your mom pokes her head in and says "Going somewhere special tonight?"
"No," you respond, starfished on the bed, hardly visible with the piles of clothes. “Just the school musical."
"Oh right, well, enjoy that honey. Are you going out afterwards?" Your mom asks.
"Yes," you groan, throwing a hand over your face.
"Okay...well have fun. You’re only a teenager once!" With that, your mom leaves you to your fashion dilemma.
Eventually you settle on a cute sweater with your favorite pair of jeans. Casual but also dressed up just enough to hopefully impress Jungkook.
After a quick snack (eating afterwards will definitely be a big affair, so no dinner) you head out after getting a text from Jungkook.
jungkookie 🍪: i’m here hurry up
you: i'm coming. learn to have some patience
jungkookie 🍪: just get your ass out here
"Bye mom!" you shout, grabbing your purse and dashing out the door.
"Bye sweetie! Have fun!"
You get into Jungkook's passenger seat and shut the door.
"You need to learn to wait five seconds," you say, shoving him.
"But what's the fun in that?" Grinning, he pulls out of the driveway.
You two jam out to the radio on the way to the theatre, you stealing glances at his side profile. His button nose and full lips paint the perfect portrait. How can someone be so heavenly?
Pulling into a spot, Jungkook asks you, "So what exactly is this musical about?"
"Jungkook!" you scold, "I told you to look up a synopsis before coming to watch!"
"I'm sorry, okay? I didn't have time. I assume that it's about a man named Sweeney Todd?" (a/n: sweeney todd is underestimated)
You roll your eyes at Jungkook, then grab his arm.
"Let's just go. I hope they have a summary in the program."
After showing your tickets you two grab a program and go find your seats. You had forced Jungkook to get decently close seats, much to his complaints.
"But y/nnnn I don't want to be that close to the pit...my ears will literally die!"
"Suck it up, buttercup. I want to be able to see it up close, you know I love live theatre."
Jungkook pouts, but secretly loves how much you adore musicals.
"Okay, right here! Row C." You and Jungkook go to the middle and get settled.
"You know I'm only here for you, right?" Jungkook asks, flipping through his program.
Your heart stutters.
"What about supporting Jimin?" You ask, trying to ignore the question. The theatre nerd is one of Jungkook's close friends, and in the ensemble.
“Jimin doesn't care whether or not I’m here," Jungkook says, finding the blonde's photo in the program, "Besides, he gets enough attention from all the girls anyways."
"Ha ha very funny. Did you find the summary?" you ask, reaching over to flip to the front area of the program and pointing to it. "Read. Now."
"Okay, okay, I'll read it." Jungkook starts reading it while acting overly shocked. “Wow…it takes place in London. Does that mean they have to fake a British accent?”
You sneakily snap a photo of him looking like an idiot and add it to your album 'kookie 🐰.'
After Jungkook finishes reading it, he turns to you.
"Okay, y/n, I read the summary. Happy?"
You nod. "Yes. Now I hope you can kinda understand what's happening."
As soon as you finish saying that the lights dim halfway, and you know that it's going to start soon.
"Did you take a picture of me?" Jungkook whispers as the orchestra starts warming up.
You feel your cheeks warm. Hopefully he can't see it in the dim lighting.
"No?" you whisper, and it comes out as a question.
"Why would you take a photo-"
Before Jungkook can finish his question the music starts and you're thankful you don't have to answer him.
"Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd...his skin was pale and his eye was odd...he shaved the faces of gentlemen who never thereafter were heard of again..."
~
A Little Priest finishes and the lights come up for intermission.
"So, Jungkook, what did you think?" You gush, wanting to discuss all the details and songs.
"I think that Pirelli was a real dickhead, that's what," Jungkook says passionately.
"Shhh! Don't say that so loud. Yes, he was a dick, but he's not a problem anymore!" You look around subtly, hoping that no one heard Jungkook.
"Yeah yeah. I think that Lovett is pretty smart, but she's too infatuated with Sweeney. Like, girl needs to calm down a little."
If only he knew how much you were infatuated with him; you'd put Lovett to shame.
"Yeah...I'm going to the bathroom. I'll be right back." You hurry out, suddenly sweating, and leaving a confused Jungkook behind.
In the bathroom you shut yourself in a stall to attempt to calm yourself down. Your beating heart does little to help, and you want so badly to tell Jungkook the truth. But you know that he probably doesn't feel the same way. I mean, why would he? He deserves to be with someone as amazing and perfect as him. You have your qualities, but they don’t compare to Jungkook’s.
Steeling yourself you open the stall to go wash your hands and check yourself in the mirror. Your cheeks aren't tinted as much and after a quick fix of your hair you look normal.
Taking a deep breath, you walk back to your seat.
"Sorry, I just really had to go to the bathroom," you sheepishly say to Jungkook, who's looking at you strangely.
"Mhm...okay. Anyways, what was your favorite song so far?" is the suspicious response.
You don't think that Jungkook really believes your excuse, but he diverts the subject so you go along with it.
~
After talking for the rest of intermission, act two starts. You take your focus off of Jungkook and enjoy the rest of the show.
Amidst the chaos with the lunatics, you leans over to whisper, "Jimin makes a really good crazy person."
Jungkook stifles his laugh, but it's true. Jimin makes the most demented face and has you questioning whether or not he's actually insane.
~
At the end of the show you and Jungkook give the performers a standing ovation.
"Woo!" You cheer, seeing the cast grin at each other.
When the house lights come up Jungkook drags you over to say hi to Jimin.
"Hey, great job! Y/n over here thought that your facial expressions were really funny." Jungkook elbows you playfully.
You just awkwardly smile, as you only know Jimin through Jungkook.
"Well thank you, y/n. I try," Jimin responds, dramatically giving a bow.
You laugh a bit at that, making Jungkook grin.
"Hey, so y/n and I are going to go out to eat and I was wondering if you wanted to join us." There it goes. You knew Jungkook would want to hang out with other people, as he always does.
Little do you know that it's only because Jungkook is too nervous to be with you by himself.
"Sure, just let me put my mic away, change, and take this makeup off of me so I don't look like a clown," Jimin jokes.
"You already look like one normally," Jungkook snarks, earning a shove and a "Shut the fuck up," from Jimin.
"Well y/n and I will go get a table because we don't want to wait for your ass," Jungkook says, starting to leave.
You wave at Jimin and he just winks, gesturing for you to follow Jungkook.
Jungkook pulls out of the parking lot. You turn on the music again, partly because you hate a silent car but mostly because you want to listen to Jungkook's angelic voice.
You then realize you don't even know where you're going to eat.
"Wait Jungkook where are we going?" you ask, but figure it out halfway through your question.
"Ihop of course! I know you crave late night breakfast," is the peppy reply.
You are so lucky to have someone who knows you so well, but you don't want to force him to go there just because of your cravings. This always happens.
"Oh, well don't feel obligated to go there! We always go there because of me. Why don't we go somewhere for you this time?" you ask, trying to convince Jungkook.
He just stubbornly shakes his head and says "No, it's okay. I know how your cravings get, and I'm always in the mood for pancakes! Besides, I already told Jimin that's where we are going."
You protest, but his stubbornness keeps you from arguing for long. He always wins.
Eventually you pull into the parking lot and hop out.
"So Jungkook...is it only us and Jimin?" you ask as said man checks his phone. Maybe you won't have to deal with a ton of people?
"No, sorry y/n. I know how you don't like a lot of people. Jimin invited some of the theatre people like Jin, Hoseok, and Taehyung. And then they invited their friends, so Namjoon, Yoongi, and Jackson are all coming," Jungkook finishes, giving you a sympathetic look. (a/n, it’s always jackson, isn’t it?)
Ugh. Why did you have to have such a thoughtful best friend?
"It's fine, Jungkook. Don't worry about it," you say, genuinely meaning it. Giving Jungkook a smile, you hope to ease his worries.
It works, as he grins back and gestures for you to follow him.
Stepping inside Jungkook gets a table and then you both follow the waitress.
"Table for nine, right here. Would you like to wait for everyone to arrive before you order?" Asks the waitress.
"Yes, please," Jungkook replies.
You thank your waitress and then sit down on the end. Jungkook sits beside you.
"How long do you think it'll take for them to get here?" You ask, checking the time and seeing that it's 10:07. On a regular night you’ be curled up in bed either reading or binge watching a show.
"Soon. And if they don't then we'll just order without them," Jungkook says cheekily.
Approximately ten minutes later the doors to Ihop burst open and you see the cluster of boys.
"Well, I guess they're here," you murmer, feeling a little out of place as the only girl.
"Yeah...hey if you ever feel like it's too much, just text me or let me know because I'll do my best to help you," Jungkook says at the pack comes over to sit down.
"Hey Kook, how you doing?" A makeup-free Jimin asks, sitting next to him. Taehyung sits across from you and waves, a boxy grin on his face.
You wave shyly back.
"Good, took you guys a long time to get here, though," Jungkook complains, shoving Jimin lightly.
"Whatever. You're the one who didn't want us here in our makeup, so deal with the consequences." As Jimin finishes this sentence the waitress comes back over.
"Ready to order drinks?" She asks, notepad and pen at the ready.
"Sure," Jungkook says, then orders a soda.
Going around the table you're last, and mostly everyone else orders a drink with some kind of caffeine. Will you be lame if you get a water? You don't want to keep yourself up all night.
"And you miss?" She asks.
"I'll have a water please," you say quietly, causing her to nod.
"Okay, I'll get those out for you!" She bustles back to the kitchen and everyone proceeds to continue talking and laughing in their loud banters.
You already know what you're ordering, so you place the menu down and look at the odd crew that you're with.
Across from you Taehyung and Yoongi talk loudly, with Taehyung doing most of the talking. Yoongi just sits, an image of bored, but you can tell from his endeared stare and small upturn of his lips that he's enjoys listening to Taehyung.
Next to Yoongi sits Namjoon, Jin, and Jackson. They're typically a quieter trio, and they chat amongst themselves calmly...ish (compared to the next group).
Across from Jackson sits Hoseok, then Jimin, Jungkook, and you.
Hoseok is talking animatedly with Jimin, using his arms to gesture and you almost laugh when Jimin just barely dodges his arm.
"So y/n, what are you going to order?" Jungkook asks, drawing your attention away from Hoseok.
"French toast," you say, shrugging, "What about you?"
Jungkook ignores your question and hums in response, "Oh, it's a french toast night. Are you feeling okay? You only order french toast when you aren't that hungry and can have leftovers later."
How does Jungkook always know? You aren't hungry despite not having dinner. Sometimes these spells happen where you don’t eat much, and somehow Jungkook always can sense when they are.
You see Jimin lean out behind Jungkook and dart his eyes to Jungkook and back to you, eyebrows raised suggestivly.
What's that supposed to mean?
Diverting your eyes away from Jimin, you're about to respond but the waitress comes back with the drinks.
Thanking her, you quickly rip the straw wrapping off and promptly shove it in the water, taking a sip to avoid answering the question.
But Jungkook won't let you off the hook so easily.
"Y/n, answer the question. Or, at least answer this: did you eat dinner? If not, then you should really eat more than one piece of french toast," Jungkook says loudly, ignores the poor waitress who's trying to get his order.
"Jungkook, order. She's waiting." You gesture to the waitress, and Jungkook quickly orders his combo meal before turning back to you.
"And for you miss?" The waitress looks concerned as Jungkook gives you an angry look.
"I'll have the classic french toast, please," you say meekly, feeling Jungkook's glare at you.
The waitress nods before quickly scurrying off, clearly aware of the sudden tension at the table.
"Y/n, you know I only ask because I care about you," Jungkook says, still being louder than you like.
"I know, Kook," you say, your voice much quieter. Does he understand that he's being too loud? Some people from the tables around you are staring.
Jungkook takes a look at your face and realizes his mistake and he goes to apologize.
"Y/n, I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I shouldn't have been so loud and-"
The talking around you suddenly feels louder and it’s all too much. You're feeling anxiety because of the situation, guilt because Jungkook always has to apologize even when it's not needed, and sadness because you wish you could stop being so annoying with these types of outings.
"It's okay," you manage to say, stopping Jungkook's rambling, "I'm okay. I think that I'll just go home now." This is what happens when you go out. What you wouldn’t give to be tucked under your covers with your moonbeam reading light on.
"Can you cancel my order?" You ask Jungkook, seeing him protest.
"Y/n-"
"No, it's fine Jungkook. Really. Stay and enjoy," you manage to get out. Seeing him so sad makes your heart clench but it's for the better.
You get up from your chair and leave, Jungkook's stare burning into your back.
Half of you hopes that he follows you, but the other half doesn't want that to happen.
Your stomach aches (Probably from hunger, or nerves. Or both.) and you are yet again thinking that this is another example of why you don’t deserve Jungkook. He’s just too kind. Honestly, doesn’t he ever get tired of taking care of you? As much as you wish you could pull away from him, he still draws you in like a magnet. Curse his amazing personality.
You are afraid of what will happen in the future. Will these feelings go away? Will they go away if you suppress them? Will Jungkook laugh at you if you tell him? Of course he'll laugh. There's no way he feels the same way. Who would ever like you?
All these questions bombard your brain as you lean against the wall.
You know that you need to text your mom to come pick you up (Jungkook was your ride home) but for now you focus on calming your self-depricating thoughts and suppressing your feelings.
Someone touches your shoulder and you almost jump out of your skin.
"Woah! Sorry, it's just me y/n." There stands Jungkook, looking perfect as always even in the horrible fluorescent lighting. Great.
"Oh, hey Jungkook," you say, "Why are you out here? I told you I'm fine." You should’ve known that it was impossible to trick Jungkook into thinking you’re okay.
"You're clearly not fine. Can you tell me what's wrong? First it's rushing off to the bathroom and now rushing out of here. You've been acting weird all night. So, what's up?" Jungkook crosses his arms and leans against the wall next to you, clearly not planning on leaving until he gets the answer out of you.
Fuck.
"But Jungkook-"
"No, y/n. Just tell me. Please." Jungkook is so desperate to know and it seems as though he's begging for answers for more than just tonight.
How can you tell him?
Memories flash before your eyes of you and Jungkook.
~
Middle school, where you both were the most awkward people, still developing their personalities while adjusting to hormones. But after being partnered up for a project you two became friends.
Walking across the stage for middle school promotion, you in that floral sundress that makes Jungkook go crazy and him in a polka-dotted bow tie.
Starting high school together, your friendship still going strong. Clutching your backpacks as you take the next step into adulthood, all while still being a teenager.
Going to homecoming and prom together as 'friends' only, despite the looks. His tie always matches your dress, causing you to pretend that he’s yours, if only for one night.
Jungkook being there for you as you cry because of school stress.
"I-I just can't do it anymore. There's too much. I'll never be able to catch up and then there's always more piling on and it never ends! Why does it never end?!"
He just wraps his arms around you and pulls you close, his warmth and silence being the best remedy as you sob your heart out, while wrapped in your worn pink blanket that he bought for you.
You being there for him at all his various sporting events. Cross country meets, basketball, swimming. Whenever there was a home meet, you were there, sitting in the bleachers cheering him on.
During the hot cross country meets, you were the one to give Jungkook a water bottle at the end.
During the basketball games you'd be in the students section with some friends, dressed in whatever the theme was that night. You would always cheer the loudest when Jungkook would score (which was quite a lot, considering how good he was).
During swim meets you'd be on the bleachers. Even though there were many other attractive shirtless boys, you only ever looked at Jungkook (and his fine muscles...who knew he was hiding abs under his baggy sweatshirts?).
~
Staring up at him now makes you realize that even if he doesn't feel the same, it's Jungkook. He wouldn't just destroy your friendship if he didn't like you back. Jungkook would let you down slowly and still keep your friendship.
"Okay Kook. I'll tell you." Inhaling a big breath you clench your fists and spit it out.
"I like you."
Silence.
You avoid his eyes, choosing to look at the concrete. You ask yourself why you thought this was a good idea. Surely he thinks you're stupid. God, why are you such a fool-
"Oh."
A note of, hopefulness? Is that really what you hear? Confused you look up to Jungkook...smiling?
"Why do you have that gleam in your eye?" You ask, still scared but now also suspicious.
Jungkook just takes a step closer, still wearing that stupid goofy grin with a hint of something else.
"Because." Is his helpful response to your question.
Before you say another word Jungkook closes the gap between you two, pressing his lips softly against yours.
It's better than what you ever imagined and sweeter than anything you've tasted. His lips are like sugary clouds of cotton candy, and you want to taste them forever. If this was a rom-com, the peak of the movie would be this moment right here.
Suddenly the dim lighting and ugly parking lot seems romantic, blossoming with love.
Jungkook pulls away, clearly enjoying the befuddled look on your face.
"W-what?" You ask, semi-breathless, still reeling from what just happened.
Jungkook just laughs quietly.
"Isn't it obvious? I like you too y/n," he says, grabbing your hands.
Were you in a rom-com, or did your best friend just confess to you?
"Wait, hold on. You do?"
Apparently your skepticalness is funny to Jungkook because he just laughs again.
"Yes, y/n. I just kissed you, doesn't that show my feelings for you?" Jungkook asks, pulling you close.
You can feel the comforting warmth of Jungkook and ask yourself again if this was real life.
"And, if that doesn't show them, then should I kiss you again?"
Jungkook is sneaky, that little devil.
Before you can answer, he leans down to press a kiss to your left cheek. Then your right. And next is your nose.
"Jungkook! Stop!" You giggle, trying to push him away.
"No! Not until you know I like you!" Jungkook is stubborn, and under the onslaught of kisses you can only be strong for so long.
"Okay okay! I believe you!" You’re must sinking into Jungkook’s hold more.
"Good." He stops kissing you after one more on the top of your head.
You bask in his arms around you for a minute.
Then, you furrow your brows as another question pops into your head.
"Wait, Jungkook...now what?" You ask the question innocently, making Jungkook laugh once again at all the options he has.
"Now I take you on a proper date, give you hugs and kisses all the time, always be with you, hold your hand constantly-"
"What?" You interrupt, eyes wide at all the things Jungkook is listing.
"That's right. Now that you're mine, I can do all this and more!" Jungkook cheers, all while hoping he isn't coming on too strong.
"Oh...that sounds kinda nice," you admit shyly, your heart pounding again at the thought of being able to love Jungkook freely.
"I'm glad. Now, let's go finish our first date?" Jungkook gestures to the Ihop building.
"Okay."
Bashfully you reach out your hand and Jungkook takes it happily.
