So I'm rewatching ATLA like any recent college grad in a pandemic and trying to apply what I've learned at college to what I see in the show.

I spent three of my four years in college learning water bending.

Water bending, like all other elemental bending, is based off martial arts. This one is specifically Tai Chi. You have to feel the push and pull of the energy within yourself in order to do it correctly. Master Pakku is correct when he says this in episode 18. It's impossible for someone to feel this immediately when they first start out with no prior experience. Aang pushes around water, but he doesn't push around energy. He actually messes up where beginners mess up with cloud hands (the move we watch him learn and try to teach Katara). One of his hands is slower than the other, they don't move in tandem, and they're held far too stiffly to the point where one is at a wrong angle. There's a reason Aang isn't getting this right.

Katara, on the other hand, picks this up quickly because she knows what the push and pull feels like. She knows to attack Pakku's hands later in the episode than anywhere else because she won't get the reaction she needs to out of him. My sensei said that hands are the expression of the form, that feet are the balance and stomachs are the engine. If Katara attacked Pakku's feet or torso, nothing would happen because that's where his center is, where he's most solid. The hands are then the most vulnerable. You'll recall the battle ended once Katara couldn't move her hands and not when she was knocked down.

I think it's fascinating that they aren't following specific forms from what I can tell (8, 24, fan, sword) but Aang is still learning from the beginning forms (8 and 24) regardless.

I wish we were given the chance to see Sokka's warrior training. I'd love to know if the warriors learned the sword form of Tai Chi. It's a lot of fun to watch. Katara deserves a sword!

I get that some people are upset with Janus for what he said to Roman, but revealing his name must have been really vulnerable and for him to just immediately laugh? Not to mention the whole act of removing the glove and stuff.

Woke: wanting an Onward series, like Tangled and Big Hero 6 got.

You know, I like to think that now that Steven is traveling the country, finding himself, and interacting with new people...what if like, somehow he comes across some really funky and weird places.

Imagine he telling Connie and the gems about how one time his gem started acting all weird when he entered a really small town in Oregon, and how he made friends with a pair of siblings that were staying in a old shack that had all of these mythic animals and creepy stuff displayed in it and how he had to leave a little early cause one of their uncles was trying to experiment on him and his gem.

And then about how this other time he thought he was going to have a chill week in the coast but as soon as he arrived there was a huge castle in the middle of town and there were big spiders and reptiles flying in the sky, the he met a girl that had badly drawn hearts on her cheeks and wore plastic horns and he didn't even know if she said her real name or some kind of username but they met up with a couple of her friends that apparently were royals too, they were all really nice people and had a couple of adventures together.

After all of that he got lost in the road one time in the early morning and everything was really foggy and he could barely make up the road, he pulled over so he could wait till the fog went away but heard some footsteps coming from the forest and decided to go explore even though he knew that probably wasn't a good idea, but he found a kid holding a frog and he was searching for his brother so he decided to help, and this kid was leaving a trail of candy behind them, he did say that the kid was pretty funny and a really nice company, eventually they found his brother and he was talking to a bird as he was approaching them but the bird didn't seem to make a noise at all and only stared at him, so he said goodbye and went back to the dondai and sat there for a couple minutes trying to figure out if that was a dream or if that actually happened.

Overall, he's happy that outside Beach City there's some pretty weird places out there.
