why exactly does jjk feel unsatisfying?
i've slowly been noticing that a pitfall a lot of jjk defenders are neglecting is the inherently cathartic experience storytelling is a vehicle for: a successful narrative synthesizes audience investment and authorial intent without one undermining the other. stories are not purely mechanistic, they are evocative experiences, and crafting a narrative is predicated on the journey between set up and pay off.
and if your payoff is not satisfying, you've failed to create something that resonates with the extrapolations viewers have crafted in your story. this sentimental aspect to viewership is arguably its most important tenet, as opposed to purely answering questions, as an author can definitely fulfill the technical aspect of defining a character, setting, theme etc, while failing at crafting smth holistic and meaningful regardless. fulfilling criteria or making smth coherent in the denotative sense does not mean you have adequately addressed the connotative and emotional layers in a narrative.
demonstrating that gojo was strength encapsulated or that jujutsu society was cruel does not address the human aspect underpinning the narrative, it does not tie up the relational and emotional threads that endeared viewers to gojo or any of the other characters, it does not flesh them out. it makes glaringly obvious the prowess needed to obfuscate the systemic nature of these constructive elements, when reducing them to components instead of intertwined reflections that embody their own respective complexities.
honoring the minutiae and nuance in your story is just as if not more important than creating smth technically functional, bc consumers cant truly digest and incorporate one's intent if its incongruent to the preestablished core of a story, beyond meeting baseline prerequisites. its tactless and detached and viewers can tell.
storytelling is meant to be relational, its meant to be a transaction of ideas and emotion, its meant to honor the soul of a piece of art.

‘Poseidon left a party in Ethiopia because the sea vibes went rancid after Odysseus set sail’ feels like a bit I would make up, but no. That actually happened.
"wet kitten Torbek" this "pathetic loser Torbek" that "sex pest Torbek"-WHAT ABOUT UNHINGED TORBEK HUH?
Listen,we can argue which version of Torbek is most canon[the correct answer is an unholy mix of all of the above] but there's one aspect of his character that I wish people would discuss more is his proclivity to do and say the most bizarre and out of pocket shit without so much as a thought, you see it more in the yuletide one-shots than OUWA but it's honestly one of my favorite parts of his character and it leaves me in stitches every time

El Señor de los Secretos, Raúl
My not-so-great keep secret is that I fully believed Raum was called Raúl for about six episodes before Nikkie mentioned him again
In my defence Raúl means "powerful advisor", if that is not Virgil there's something in the water. And air. It's crows, it's crows.

met this guy at work today
