Sorry for your loss
This event in Pokémon XY with the old man is so much more impactful now that my grandfather is gone. I feel so sorry for this lonely man, so I’m glad to help him.
My grandfather passed away in 2020 due to complications of Alzheimer’s. He was 88 years old. Because of the loss of my grandfather, the ending to this event makes me cry when I watch it. When I actually experience it, it’ll probably be even more emotional.
The old man and the Pokémon kinda remind me of my relationship with my grandfather. He was very involved in my life and was a phenomenal man and grandfather. He was brilliant and hardworking and kind. I was one of six people that he still remembered when he passed away, the others being my grandmother, my mom (his daughter), and my three siblings. We lived 4-1/2 hours away from him and I had cousins who lived about an hour away. They never visited him - he had forgotten all of his other grandchildren and even my uncles and aunt. The difference is that my family always took the time to go see him. I have no regrets - I feel comfort because he never forgot who I was.
This event is sad, but it also brings me a sense of peace and comfort.
Rest in peace, Papa-T
