“did i hear you right?” seulgi exclaims, ignoring the roll of your eyes. “are you really saying you accused jung hoseok of projecting when he was coming on to you?”

“he wasn’t coming on to me,” you say calmly, even though your bones are rattling in your body. you play with the ears of the koala pushie in your lap while seulgi sits up on her knees at the end of your bed, all of this feeling an awful lot like the sleepovers you had when you were thirteen. giggling, smothered under blankets and popcorn, gushing over hoseok.

“you’re right. he wasn’t just coming on to you, he was testing you,” she says definitively.

“seulgi…" 

"it makes sense, think about it. he has to make sure you still like him before he goes and ruins his friendship with namjoon for your pussy.”

you fight back a laugh. “would you stop talking like that? it’s weird and…inappropriate.”

           “Babe,” Namjoon whines for the dozenth or so time. He drags out the vowel until you’re almost cross-eyed in annoyance.

           “I already told you, I’m not touching you until you finish the track you’re working on,” you remind him, not looking up from your own work. “And you have rehearsal in an hour and a half, so you better hurry up if you want to do anything.”

           “You’re so mean,” he pouts as he spins miserably in his chair. You glance up, still somehow mystified that a man who could be so charismatic on stage and downright predatory in bed could simultaneously be so childish. “It’s not my fault I can’t think of anything good.”

           “Almost everything you think of is good, you’re just a perfectionist,” you remind him absently. Your attention’s already back on your laptop.

           “Can you at least sit with me or something? It might help me focus.”

           “I’m literally four feet behind you, Namjoon.”

           “Please?”

           You look up at the weak tone of his voice, against your better judgment, and are greeted with that infernal look he gets. It’s a toned down version of the one he gets when someone tells him his music isn’t real hip-hop or the president vetoes one of Namjoon’s favorite songs for the latest album or someone tells him he shouldn’t go bare-faced in public and it always breaks your heart until you cave in. You heave a sigh that’s heavier than you actually feel and save your report, not looking at him. Out of the corner of your eye, you can see his nervous fidgeting at your lack of a response and you have to fight back a grimace at the shit-eating grin that comes the moment you move to close your laptop.
