The following day, Jungkook ran.

When the Queen of Aurum told her son that the Queen of Calestia broke off their engagement and was arranging a marriage with Prince Dasher, he ran.

Before his mother could even elaborate further details, Jungkook sprinted out of bed and headed towards his father's study in his oversized white silk pajamas. He was like a bolt of lightning, moving at fast intensity and taking giant strides. Somehow, without his shoes on, Jungkook was outrunning all the guards.

"Is it true?" Jungkook asked when he bursted through the conference doors. He was panting, out of breath. His breathing became small gasps, filling up the room. "Tell me, is it true, Father?"

"Well, good morning to you too," the King quipped, looking up from his desk. He laughed when he saw Jungkook barefoot. "You must've been so excited that you had to run all the way here to hear the news yourself."

"Is it truly so?" Jungkook asked again, ignoring his father's remarks. He was panting and taking big breaths after each word. "Doth it be true?"

As the King scoffed at Jungkook's question, the guards finally caught up and entered the room along with Jungkook's mother. She immediately ran up to her son, patting his back in comfort. "Guards! Bring me water!"

"Is it true?" Jungkook asked again.

"You really couldn't have waited a minute longer. You did not need to rush over here without putting clothes on!" Jungkook's mother scolded him. "Are you hurt?"

"Aren't you happy, my dearest son? You got what you wanted," Jungkook's father said.

The Prince stayed silent, trying to catch his breath. His father is right; he got what he wanted. Jungkook was free from you.

"I did," Jungkook said. "You're right."

An unfamiliar feeling was growing in Jungkook's gut, twisting and turning all his insides. It had been the same feeling he had when greeting Prince Dasher with you. Jungkook didn't know whether he was hungry or if he sensed there was something wrong. But he knew mentioning his concern would ruin his freedom away from you. He should be happy, but oddly enough, he felt some disappointment.

"Drink this." The guards handed Jungkook a glass of water.

In one gulp, he drank the water and finished it quickly. Still struggling to take air in, Jungkook took some deep breaths in and out from the cup as if it were a paper bag, trying to regulate his breathing back to normal. Jungkook noticed his hands violently shake as he held the glass. "Thank you."

After a moment of silence, the King continued. "They requested the wedding to be hosted in Cometes—"

"Cometes?!" Jungkook interrupted the King mid-sentence, something he had never done before. Though Jungkook may be defiant and go against his father's wishes, he was taught from an early age not to interrupt his father, as listening was a sign of respect. "Are you allowing the wedding to be there?"

The King stood up and walked in the direction of where Jungkook and his mother were. His father raised his eyebrows at Jungkook and then at the Queen. They had stared at each other for a quick moment, exchanging no words. But one look can truly say a thousand words; Jungkook could read his parents' confusion by his sudden reaction and interest in your politics. "Is there a problem with that?"

“No, Sir,” Jungkook said. He stood straight up, his whole body going rigid. "There is no problem."

"Well, the newly-crowned Prince requested the wedding be there, but that would be a stupid idea. We've protected this girl for almost all her life. Before you came rushing in, Y/N and I came to an agreement. The last condition I asked for is to have her royal wedding here in three days' time, where she will be safe and comfortable," the King explained.

"In the end, Aurum will still benefit with all these royal and noble guests coming in," the Queen added. "Perhaps we can find a new engagement and alliance for our country during this wedding."

"I don't care about that," Jungkook snapped. "What about her borders? Her troops? Are they going to help her?"

"With the announcement of the wedding and their alliance to Cometes, Luxuria has kindly pulled their troops away from the Caelestia border
for now."

"That quickly?" Jungkook asked, trying to understand how it was possible. "Isn't that suspicious?"

"Let it be their problem whether they rule," the King dismissed, waving his hand away in the air. "Either way, the girl is safe."

Jungkook said slowly, "Therefore, Queen Y/N will have protection and will not be harmed if she were to travel back to her royal court or Cometes."

"Yes, that is correct," both his parents answered.

"She will not be harmed," Jungkook repeated, enunciating each syllable. "She will be safe."

Annoyed, his father sighed as he returned to his desk and sat down, resuming the work. "Yes, Jungkook, she will be safe."

Her country and her people will be safe too, Jungkook thought to himself. And that's what mattered.

But when midnight came, Jungkook couldn't sleep.

Jungkook was twisting and turning in his royal blue bed sheets, replaying his last moments with you in his head. He's never had a problem with sleeping until now. When he was younger, he would always be the first one to be heard snoring during nap time while the rest of the kids barely closed their eyes.

All his thoughts kept back to you. He just kept seeing the look of pain on your face from the night before. It somehow became a memory he could not erase from his mind; he couldn't even hit pause either, hoping this feeling would be forgotten after a deep slumber.

"Why did you summon me at like 2 in the morning?" His best friend, Amicus, asked as he entered Jungkook's room to find him on the couch, angrily staring at the brick wall in front of him. Amicus sat on the couch adjacent to Jungkook's with a look of worry mixed with confusion. "You good?"

"I fucking hate Y/N," Jungkook spatted. "I hope her bed ends up in the river tomorrow morning."

"Nothing new." His best friend was unphased. "Is that it? This is what is keeping you up at night? You demanded your guards to drag me here so that you can talk about hating Y/N?"

"But this time, it is different!" Jungkook insisted, finally facing Amicus. Amicus's curly blond hair was out of place, parts sticking out as if he had bathed and forgotten to dry his hair before sleeping. Jungkook figured that Amicus must have rushed out of his room as there was a small drool stain on the left corner of his mouth and some on his red nightwear.

"Ever since she came to Aurum Court, I have never once felt bad or thought twice about what I do and say to her. But some things happened, and I feel wrong if I were to sleep."

"She's probably not even thinking about it," Amicus tried to reassure the crowned Prince. "Besides, I bet whatever happened is just the normal banter between you. It is just how you guys are. I think she knows the both of you are assholes."

"Okay, I like to think I'm not a total asshole." Amicus raised his eyebrows at Jungkook, looking at him with a look of disbelief on his face. "Are you fucking serious?"

"You're my best friend and everything," Amicus paused, trying to choose the right words carefully. "But personally, if someone tried to ship me back to my country in a crate with no breathing holes, I would probably say they are an asshole for the rest of my life."

"We were eight!" Jungkook tried defending himself. "Why must everyone still make such a great deal about it?

"How many years has it been? I believe she's still waiting for an apology."

"Well, she'll wait a while for that one, as what I did the night prior is worse than what I've done before."

"Jungkook, get to the point." Despite being a calm person, Amicus lost his patience with his best friend. Usually, Amicus was by Jungkook's side, listening to the same old drama without a single complaint. Still, with Prince Dasher at Aurum Court, he had spent the whole day with Dasher's noblemen and knights, entertaining the other royal guests. Unlike the Prince, Amicus was not born to talk to others and be the center of attention. From a young age, Amicus was brought up to the castle and grew up by Jungkook's side, and he liked it that way. He swore to himself that he would love to listen to all his best friend's curses for the rest of his life as long as this night could end.

"I might have been nice to her," Jungkook mumbled incoherently, not wanting to admit what happened entirely.

Anicus raised his eyebrows. "You what? I don't know what you said."

Jungkook released a forced chuckle, nervously scratching the back of his neck. He then looked at the ground, breaking eye contact with Amicus. "We both accidentally became
friends? And while we were in our new level
of a relationship, I might have accidentally said I will never want her and that she should leave this country."

Even without looking, Jungkook knew Amicus had a dirty look. "How do you accidentally do that? What the hell does that even mean?! How is that even possible? Did you just stop hating her randomly for fun?"

"Of course not!" The Crowned Prince explained all the events and all his feelings to Amicus, finally processing everything said and done between the two of you.

Although there was no verbal confirmation of a truce, Jungkook felt like he had stabbed you in the back with his words. The two of you might have cut each other in the past, but it was never a wound that could be this deep. He was afraid of the wound, and it ached him as if he were the one stabbed.

"Why do you hate her if you were the one to say those things?" Amicus asked, surprised by all the information. "Why did you even say that to her?"

"I don't know." Jungkook buried his face in the palm of his hand, elbow leaning on the armchair. "I mean, I guess we both want out of this arranged marriage. This was an easy out that she wasn't taking, and maybe I just thought hurting her would get that help. She shouldn't have to wait and hope for Aurum to help her when we don't give her anything. I helped her, but she hates me, and I hate her for it."

"I'm sure she knows you did this for both of you guys."

Jungkook ignored his comment, not finding any comfort in it. "What am I supposed to do?"

Amicus was silent for a while before speaking. "So what? Why are you overthinking this? She probably didn't take it personally, and it'll all return to normal in the meantime."

Jungkook sighed in defeat. "I suppose you're right."

Little did Jungkook know, you took it by heart.

Although your schedules lined up with each other, you have tried to avoid him at all costs by changing your schedule and having your ladies-in-waiting accompany you to every single event, never leaving your side. Since your conversation with Jungkook, you didn't want to be alone with him, wanting your friends to protect you away from him. With them there, you knew Jungkook would not try to approach you.

"Are you seriously considering this offer?"  Lady Adoree asked. "We can figure out a way. You don't have to do it."

Before you could answer, your other two ladies-in-waiting, Lady Dal and Lady Haenim, arrived at the round lunch table, sitting next to you and Lady Adoree.

"Do what?" Lady Dal and Haenim asked at the same time.

Despite being identical twins, they couldn't be more different.

Lady Dal was free-spirited and confident, often complimented for her charming aura. Often, she would ignore her duties at royal court and sneak off to buy the most expensive and luxurious gowns, specifically white and pink ones; however, she would only wear these dresses once, not wanting to repeat the outfit twice. Dal was impulsive and unpredictable, not caring about authority or the consequences of her actions. Though her actions may come off as vain, undaunting, and irresponsible, you knew Lady Dal would protect you and her loved ones with her life.

Unlike her twin, Lady Haenim always hid in the shadows and stuck her nose in a book, often enjoying religious texts. Lady Haenim was always praying, thanking the divine spirit for allowing her to be born into a noble family and that her status was able to offer her an education. Although she was more reserved than your other ladies-in-waiting, she always spoke out for her beliefs and moral convictions.

Their parents were blessed with daughters and were proud to have an accomplished, humble daughter like Haemin and a beautiful, charismatic daughter like Dal.

"My options are limited, Adoree." You sighed.  "We all know I have to accept his proposal for Caelestia."

"What about Prince Jungkook?" Haemin asked.

"What about him?" You gave a warning glare to your ladies as you knew Jungkook was at a table behind you, possibly trying to listen to the conversation in front of him. The twins gave you a confused look while Adoree looked down at her plate, trying to act normal.

"Lower your voice," you warned in a low voice. "There are people nearby who can be listening."

Haemin looked at her sister and mouthed Jungkook's name. Dal took a quick look at his table, made awkward eye contact with Amicus, and tilted her head slightly down to apologize. "But have you really not talked to him since? Would you not care for the reason for his behavior?" Haemin asked.

"Even if she is curious, this is Jungkook we are talking about," Dal said with a bitter tone. "He may see no wrong in his actions."

"Perhaps he does not, but there is a possibility he does see some wrong if he treated Y/N with kindness earlier that day."

"Please, that boy has been a menace his whole life. He probably was acting nice because of forced proximity. Once he found an out, he then reverted back to his old ways. A tiger doesn't change its stripes."

Haemin rolled her eyes at her sister. She picked up the little fork and placed it into the salad bowl. "But would you really marry a total stranger than someone you know?"

"It isn't what I desire, but what choice do I have?" You exclaimed. "I have already arranged to move to Cometes in the next two days."

"Then we must be ready as well," Adoree decreed.

"I cannot ask you guys to come with me when you've been here most of your life. You will not accompany me and will be free of your servitude."

"It's an honor to be in your servitude. We want to be there for you, our best friend," Haemin insisted.

"Besides, we cannot pass up an opportunity to travel and find new interesting suitors," Dal giggled.

"Have you no more guests to entertain? Did you finally go through all the gentlemen of Aurum?" Jungkook asked as he was now beside your table with Amicus.

"Seems like you are out of company as well if you're over here," Adoree sneered. "Disappointing that you would consider us your last option."

"My apologies, but I ask for you to listen to me very carefully. If men in this palace had to be with ladies like you in order to stop you from becoming a pumpkin at midnight, we'd rather be alone."

Before Adoree could respond, you cleared your throat and gave her a death glare, signaling her to back down. At first, a scowl was on her face, but when Jungkook and Amicus took their leave, Adoree clenched her fist on the table. "How can anyone stand him?"

"Why would he come here and say nonsense like that?"  Dal asked.

Jungkook and Amicus exited the lunch banquet room at a steady pace, walking through the castle's hallways. They usually never exited through the north side, as they hated the dark, narrow hallway, but it was a shortcut to Jungkook's chambers.

"Why did you need to talk to her again?" Amicus asked as they walked.

Jungkook shrugged. "In a few day's time, she will be out of our lives forever. I suppose giving an apology wouldn't hurt."

"Better late than ever."

"What did he say, Edward?"

Jungkook immediately halted as he heard Prince Dasher's voice. Before Amicus could ask what the hell he was doing, Jungkook took some steps to his right, standing close enough to listen to the conversation behind closed doors. He beckoned Amicus to come by his side to do the same.

"The King of Cometes wouldn't take no for an answer."

"This is where the Cometes people are," Amicus mouths, "Edward is his page."

"Are you an imbecile?!" Prince Dasher raised his voice. "Do I perhaps need to slap more sense into you?"

"My Prince, I've tried," Edward pleaded. "Your father is very reluctant to have the wedding in Caelestia due to our alliance with Luxuria. They would see it as a threat rather than a peaceful alliance."

"That's the whole plot." At this point, Dasher was screaming at Edward. Jungkook thought Dasher must have taken a breath to calm down as he returned to his normal voice volume. "I asked the Queen to frighten them and take their troops back once I was able to secure an engagement to Y/N. Then, once we are wed, she will be assassinated by our Luxuria allies, and we will rule Caelestia with Luxuria."

"You're talking about murder, Sir," Edward cautioned, reminding him of the severity of his future actions. "Of a monarch!"

Amicus looked at Jungkook; eyes widened at the information they had just heard. "They're going to kill her?"

"How many slaps does it take for you to learn?"

When Jungkook heard Prince Dasher threaten to slap some sense into his squire, he didn't literally think Prince Dasher would PHYSICALLY slap him; Dasher had to. It sounded like a whip, but Jungkook was still listening through closed doors and didn't know what was happening.

When he was engaged to Princess Comet of Cometes, she talked about how her half-brother Dasher was manipulative and had anger issues. But this whole time in Aurum, Jungkook hadn't seen or heard of it until this moment and thought maybe she was exaggerating. Dasher had been calm and diplomatic, almost as if he were a prince his whole life. But Jungkook realized Dasher had to have a facade in order to get what he wanted. "So this is his true colors."

"Persuade my father to change his mind, but do not tell him about the marriage statement or the hidden clause. I will make Cometes and Caelestia rightfully mine."

Amicus quickly glanced over to Jungkook and read him like an open book, knowing his next move just by the expression on his face. He put his hand on the Prince's shoulder to keep him still. "Don't."

"Let me go," Jungkook angrily gritted through his teeth, trying to escape Amicus's firm grip. "To Hell if they think they could get away with assassination."

"Jungkook, stop before you do something you regret," his best friend urged. "Going in there is just going to make things worse."

"I cannot be responsible for her death!"

Amicus pulled Jungkook away from Dasher's room, taking him into the stairwell. He let go and looked around to see if anyone else was there with them. "Didn't you want her dead last night?"

"She's still an ally to Aurum," Jungkook exclaimed. "I just didn't want to marry her, not want her buried six feet underground!"

"What are you going to do, Kook? Will you march in there and ask them politely not to do it? And you think they will just change their mind and listen to you?"

Jungkook groaned as he considered his two options. If he did nothing, he could marry literally anyone else, someone who didn't make his blood boil. He could find love with someone else, but he wasn't sure if he could live in peace, knowing the feeling of guilt would be with him for the rest of his life. However, a whole world war between the countries was likely to occur. To prevent that, he would have to be married to the person he didn't want: you.

"You know what you need to do."

Jungkook scoffed, shaking his head. "It's not like I have a choice, really."

"There's always a choice."

"Whatever decision I make won't make me happy." The two started walking down the stairs, approaching the outside stables. "I'm just doing what is best for Aurum."

"Right," Amicus said sarcastically. "For Aurum."

__________

"Please be in a good mood," Jungkook whispered to himself as he entered the stables, crossing two fingers behind his back.

Around this time every day, Jungkook's father would be found in the stables, either brushing one of his favorite horses's hair after a successful hunting session or he would be complaining to the guards, threatening to cook up their horse if the next day they couldn't find any food. The last few days, the King had been doing the latter.

Jungkook sighed in relief once he saw the King smiling beside the white horse. "Did you catch anything today?"

"Plenty of food to last us for the next month."

"It's been a while since you've allowed me to hunt with you," Jungkook pointed out.  "Perhaps you can take me again one day, but with Queen Y/N."

The King's smile quickly disappeared. "Excuse me?"

"We need to reinstate the alliance with Caelestia."

"What's the sudden change of heart?"

"This Caelestia alliance is not worth losing."

"My boy, you do realize this alliance did not end; it changed. You shall already know that alliances shift easily. Now, this is the end of the discussion."

As the King started to walk away, Jungkook clenched his fists and bit his lower lip, trying to hold any curses in.

"Cometes has plotted the assassination of Queen Y/N. Their new Prince has decided to turn their back on all of us. They plan to rule Caelestia with Luxuria, and Aurum can and will easily be the next target."

Upon hearing the information coming from his next successor, the King stopped in his tracks, still his back facing towards his son. "Did you find the proof?"

"I schemed a plan to find the marriage contact to find the hidden clause. It won't be that hard to find the assassins as well."

"You have no evidence?" His father scoffed. "We cannot do anything."

"I know about the firstborn," Jungkook blurted. "I know that the Queen doesn't know what really happened."

Even without looking directly at his face, Jungkook knew terror was written over his father's face, especially since the King stiffened at the word "firstborn."

"Are you threatening your own father?" The King questioned. "Do you really want to risk casualties over a stupid, pretty queen and a country you've never been to?"

"You and I know that keeping her alive is much better than fighting three countries and their armies," Jungkook said. "How will you handle a war and the wrath of the Queen of Aurum?"

The King sighed. "Queen Y/N will get our support, and we will negotiate the alliance."

"And she will be included in this conversation," Jungkook added.

"A lot of work for someone you claim to not care about," the King paused to look back at his son. "Do not forget you cannot lead with your heart. Or must you trust your heart, you will lose your country
But finally, my son is acting like a king."

_________

The transition to Aurum was a lot harder than you'd thought it would be. During your first week at Aurum Court, you refused to leave your bedroom chambers, pulling the blankets over her head, acting as if the blanket could turn you invisible. Already at seven years old, you wanted to disappear away from your royal responsibilities, overwhelmed by all the events that happened earlier that week: Your Royal Taster died, you were practically exiled from your own country, and another country wanted you dead. The only person that was allowed in your room was the Queen. She never tried to talk to you, but whenever she came to bring food, she held your hand or rubbed your back when you cried, showing comfort through physical touch.

By the second week, you were still glued to your bed. However, the Queen finally allowed servants and guards to enter the room to serve you. But when the servants came to bring changing clothes and some food, they noticed how oddly silent you were, as if nothing was wrong.

But that week, in the middle of the night, in the period when they were changing the guards, you would sneak out into the courtyard garden by your room and sit by the pumpkin vines. You had promised yourself that you would stop crying in your room and cry secretly at a specific time and different place so no one could see you.

A day before it had been exactly three weeks since you had moved to Aurum, and you did your usual routine. But as soon as you got up and turned around, a boy in silk pajamas stood before you, holding a stuffed bunny with a crown.

There was no need for introductions.

The boy knew he was staring at the Queen of Caelestia, and you knew you were staring back at the Prince of Aurum.

And he had embarrassingly watched the whole thing.

"Royals never cry," Jungkook said. "Let me walk you to your room."

No other words were exchanged, and no other words were needed.

Perhaps he was being an annoying seven-year-old,  scolding you that royals shouldn't be emotional.

But you interpreted his words differently.

His words reminded you about the fact that not everyone has the fortune of being born into royalty, but one must be prepared for difficult times. This reminder gave you comfort and inspired you since.

Earlier, when Dal didn't understand why Jungkook had come to your table, you said nothing because you knew exactly why Jungkook had said those things. It was a message to you and just you: Place. Pumpkins. Midnight. Alone.

It was something only the two of you knew about.

"Hello?" You called out, setting your lantern onto the ground as you sat on the stone bench, waiting for your rendezvous. "Are you there?"

From the shadows, a tall figure wearing a black cloak stepped into the light. He held a lantern in his right hand while the handle of scrolls was in his left. Pulling down the hood, Jungkook revealed himself. "Hey."

Jungkook sat down next to you and sat his lantern down on the ground as well. He handed the scrolls to you, but you arched your eyebrows at him instead, not taking them from his hand. "What is this?"

"I have the original marriage contract, which was agreed upon and written before you. But this one is Dasher's copy, which differs from yours and the original."

"Where did you get this?"

"That's not important right now," Jungkook uttered. "He wants to sign and officiate his copy because a hidden clause allows him to rule Caelestia if you were to die without an heir."

Quickly, you grabbed the papers from his hand, but you still needed to unroll them to read it. "How do you know?"

"His page willingly gave up these papers in exchange for his life. Though Prince Dasher must have realized what happened when the papers were missing, he has been on the run since. The guardsmen are finding him and the assassins as we speak. They couldn't have gotten far."

Everything started to feel unreal at that moment. The person who hated you most was actively trying to save your life, and for that, you believed him. You didn't need to read the contracts, trusting every word Jungkook said.

"If this is true, why not let me die? Why did you choose to do this? If this falls apart, the King will force our engagement once again."

"Okay, I'm not that shitty of a person." Jungkook groaned. "Why does everyone think that?"

"How do I know if this was the truth?" You asked once again, wanting to understand his reasoning and actions." Do you plan on embarrassing me by being engaged again and then breaking it yourself this time? Do you want me to lose my country and my people?"

"Absolutely not!" Jungkook shouted. "That's why I'm telling you this."

"But you hate me."

"I do not hate you. I will admit there were times when I prayed to the Gods and asked them to take you out of my life, but I never asked them to take it from you. I couldn't live with myself if that were to happen, and you especially do not deserve that."

Not knowing how to respond, the two of you sat in silence, listening to the sounds of the crickets and wind. While you stared at Jungkook, his eyes sparkled as he looked up at the full moon, appreciating how it illuminated the dark sky. He noticed that you were staring at him, but he held himself back, forcing himself to look elsewhere.

"Is that all?" There was a little voice in your head, whispering to you that there's more to it, that maybe he cares. "Nothing else?"

"I don't hate you," Jungkook said once again. Sighing, he then picked up his lantern and headed back towards the palace. "Far from it."

A flash woke you out of your reverie and you began to panic, 'they can't see' you thought to yourself while scrambling to get away, "they'll kill me if anyone see's!" you finally yell out when Chan and the officers try to subdue you.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Author’s Note: This is a crosspost from AO3; I am the one who posted it on AO3 and it is my story!

It was quiet, save for the rhythmic sound of the grandfather clock against the far wall ticking. Head bent, the chart Jin had presented clenched in his hands, Namjoon’s sharp golden eyes skimmed the report. Considering the way she had been found, their guest of honor was recovering well. Broken and bruised ribs, fractured wrist, dislocated shoulder, two sprained ankles, a mauled up leg and dislocated pelvis, multiple contusions, and internal bleeding in the abdominal area. It wasn’t pretty. Jin and their licensed medical team worked around the clock to stabilize her, wondering if it was already too late. The ferret hybrid was basically in a coma, after all. If she woke up without serious brain damage it would be bordering on a miracle.

But Namjoon was feeling whimsical enough to hope for a miracle, because having her in peak condition was the best for negotiating. Especially if they could boast at being the ones who’d saved her. If she was sensible, they wouldn’t have to do much, because her gratitude would soften her into pliancy, which in turn could soften Ambassador Gwan if she had his ear. However, the leader of Bangtan wasn’t ready to put all his stock in that. It’d be a little too
easy.

Easy was suspicious in their world.

“Did you just want an update?” Jin grumbled, leaning back in the plush chair he’d claimed. “Jimin made it sound a lot more urgent.”

“An update on her condition,” Namjoon set the file aside, “And also to tell you I need to go to Hong Kong in three days. I’ll probably take Taehyung with me.”

“What’s in Hong Kong?” His hyung quirked a brow.

Clearing his throat, Namjoon ducked his head, feeling a tad sheepish. Their tech division had been eager to inform him about what had all but fallen into their laps, but they were all going off the word of a thief who claimed he hadn’t been able to check it or himself because he didn’t know how.

He could just imagine how that would go over with Seokjin or Yoongi if he told them he had already put a down payment on holding the device he planned to retrieve without really verifying the contents beyond hearsay. “As far as we know? Intercepted information from a rival faction. An Access Key got stolen in transit and offered on the black market to the highest bidder. One of our informants got wind and let me know.”

“You’re losing me,” Jin blinked, sounding slightly put out. “You know I don’t stay hunched in front of the computer all day like Gguk.”

“It’s a highly encrypted port of digital information, basically.” Namjoon wasn’t as well-versed in hacking as their resident maknae, but he had more background than some of the others. “We’ve suspected that SM’s reputation isn’t as squeaky clean as they act for the public for a while now.”

Still unimpressed, Jin raised a brow and motioned for him to continue. “Everyone’s suspected that for a while now, Namjoon. Scandal rumors are all over gossip sites.”

Swallowing, the Bangtan leader distractedly played with a silver ring on his index finger. “This is all but proof. They do a lot of back alley dealings. Human trafficking and prostitution. The imported people come in inconspicuously alongside cargo shipments at the port. My guess is they’ve been paying whoever’s in charge of checking those containers off for some time.”

Jin’s wrinkled nose mirrored his own sentiments. Bangtan did a lot for the sake of achieving their own ends, but they weren’t traffickers, outside of weapons. Anyone in the organization in anyway involved with the trafficking of living beings, whether that was humans or hybrids, would face a fate worse than death. ”That’s disgusting, but what does that have to do with us?”

“The names of the victims, their locations, the jobs they’re assigned, and the top handlers in the operation are all on the Access Key. There might even be more secrets buried in the data. We won’t know until Jeongguk can take a crack at it.”

“You’re thinking blackmail.” Jin confirmed, looking deep in thought. “Alright, knowing you I’m sure there’s a reason why you want to make this company squirm.”

“They’re a giant in the entertainment industry but they can’t afford another blow to their reputation. Their stock value’s down five points since yesterday. Imagine what would happen if any of it was confirmed, and even worse than the public originally thought.” He paused, carding a hand through his silver-streaked hair. “The brother-in-law of SM’s president and CEO is on the Supreme Court. Imagine the price he’d pay to make the information we’re going to retrieve go away, hyung.”

If he had less restraint his tail would be wagging. Extorting a low level politician for money was one thing, but this was a member of the highest court in the land.

The next time a big case involving hybrid legislation and equality landed on his desk, the judge would have to think twice before carelessly voting against it.

There were a lot of variables to be worked out in how they would handle this, but that was why Namjoon wanted to retrieve the data as soon as possible. Then Jeongguk could look it over and inform them of their options.

“Namjoon-ah,” Jin sighed fondly. “Your tail’s doing propellers.”

The leader cursed under his breath, consciously stopping his spinning tail, which had betrayed him after all.

He had only just tucked it behind him when the door burst open, Taehyung storming in with blazing eyes. Namjoon eyed him curiously, wondering why he was in such a sullen mood. But he didn’t have long to wonder, the tiger’s deep voice resonating throughout his office. “She’s awake now.”

đŸŸ

That the question caught him off guard was an understatement, but Jimin recovered smoothly, chuckling. The ferret hybrid kept staring at him intensely, her fingers gripping the sheets apprehensively.

“That’s a pretty bold, off the wall question.” He mumbled, “What makes you ask something like that?”

He had to hand it to this Jamie; she was holding her own better than most would in her situation. If not for the way her ears were pressed down and the smallest tremor in her hands, the cat hybrid might not have been able to guess how on edge she was. Not even her scent was soured by stress, a truly impressive feat.

“You’re not denying it.” Jamie pointed out, lips pursed. “And as for why I ask
call it a hunch.”

Humming, Jimin considered his next words carefully, vacating his chair and stretching his back with a pop. “Your hunch isn’t totally right, but it might not be entirely wrong.” The disgruntled snort she made let him know she was far from pleased with that cryptic reply.

Namjoon would probably want to be the one to “negotiate” with her, which wasn’t something the brown-haired hybrid minded. But if he was getting an accurate read on Jamie, she was very wary of them—like anyone sensible would be. That alone was going to make getting her to see things their way challenging.

“That was a total evasion of my question.” Jamie grumbled. Shaking her head, she added with a sigh, “Not that I expected much from kidnappers.”

Jimin arched a brow, standing a little closer to her bedside, hand on one hip. “Who says we kidnapped you? Do you remember what happened before this?”

The small glare she leveled at him was kind of cute, her hands smoothing the sheets on her lap and her full lashes fluttered when she averted his eyes. “I know I was at home and Ae-Ri had just left
”

“So that’s a no.” Jimin smirked. “There’s someone above me you’ll meet soon, and he’ll fill you in on what you’re doing here. But I will say, you should be thanking us.”

Jamie’s bright eyes widened, her expression at once disbelieving and curious. “Thanking
you?”

Although he did very little in nursing her back to health aside from spooning some food into her mouth, the serval was all about letting her know she was in their debt, like it or not. “You turned up at the doorstep of my hyung’s cafù bloody and unconscious. Jin-hyung and Tae rushed you back here, and you’ve been recovering ever since.”

Jamie’s unblinking gaze remained on him, her mouth opening and closing without words.

When the large doors blew open, carrying the scents of the others, Jimin half-turned in greeting.

“It’s surprising, isn’t it? It’s not every day an ambassador’s estate gets attacked.” Namjoon’s presence took her full attention. There was an arresting air about their leader with his tall frame and piercing eyes. He cut such a handsome but daunting picture in his turtleneck and pressed slacks, a dress jacket folded over one shoulder.

Jamie squirmed, but just as she had with the serval hybrid, she held the wolf’s stare. Jimin was finding himself more interested in the ferret by the minute. Namjoon wasn’t just a wolf, he was a true alpha. Men with every manner of grizzly crime in their ledgers who were twice Jamie’s size sometimes made themselves smaller instinctively when he walked into a room.

Her eyes swept over him. “I’m going to take a guess and say you’re leading this operation.” Jin popped up over Namjoon’s shoulder, and she spared him a quick glance. Taehyung was the last to enter and his eyes were as flinty as they had been the first time. He stood at Jin’s shoulder, jaw tight.

Namjoon quirked a brow at Jamie’s question, which was more an assertion of fact by the way she phrased it.

“She’s really sharp, hyung.” Jimin informed him, rocking back on his heels. “And straightforward. You should’ve heard her when she asked me if I was mafia.” he giggled.

“That would be implying we’re some kind of crime syndicate.” Namjoon replied, addressing Jamie. “I don’t think I’m running a criminal empire.”

“Well, I guess all that’s relative, right?” Jamie countered, “From what I can tell, you don’t live with humans. I doubt there’s an owner in this equation. I was told he’s not fond of me because I have one,” she tilted her chin at Taehyung, who only stiffened, narrowing his eyes defiantly. Paying him no mind, the ferret hybrid continued, “You’re all hybrids, from what I’ve seen so far, in a big mansion, wearing designer clothes, and while there’s not really much indication anything unlawful’s going on
I get the feeling I’m not really free to go, am I?”

The room was quiet, everyone soaking in the to-the-point speech Jamie had made. Taehyung scoffed quietly. It could’ve been read as dismissive, but Jimin wasn’t the tiger’s soul twin for nothing. He could see she wasn’t just some spoiled rich girl’s little air-headed pet. Not that he would admit that.

Clearing his throat, Namjoon smiled shallowly. His business smile. “Since we have the advantage of knowing your name,” he began (and when Jeongguk was done knowing everything about her), “I think we should introduce ourselves. You’ve met Jimin.” Her eyes turned to him quickly and Jimin wiggled his fingers in a wave. “My name is Kim Namjoon, and you’re correct. I do serve as something of the de facto leader in our day to day operations.”

Jin rolled his eyes. “He’s the boss. Officially. There’s nothing de facto about it.” Smiling cordially, Jin eyed her in relief. “I’m glad you’re awake and able to communicate properly. If I’m going to be honest I was worried for a while. Your condition was unstable when we found you and you had an extensive list of injures.” Jamie stared down at her bandaged arms and hands. “I’ll check you over soon, or I can have one my female nurses do it if you’re more comfortable.”

”You have nurses here?” The ferret wondered. “I admit I don’t remember much about how I sustained all these injuries but I actually feel like I didn’t get shoddy medical care or I would be in worse shape. Are you
a doctor?”

Jin smiled sheepishly. His hyung was so quick to bask in praise about his looks, but ask him about his profession and he turned strangely bashful. “I am. My name is Kim Seokjin. I’m a licensed general surgeon.”

Even more unexpected was the way Jamie’s eyes sparkled with awe. “A hybrid surgeon?” She said quietly.

Jimin didn’t really understand. Yes, it was impressive, given all the hoops hybrids had to jump through to go to school for medicine let alone practice. Jin told them the drop-out rate for hybrids in medical school was incredibly high, both due to lack of scholarships and outright discrimination. Hybrids from well-off backgrounds, like Gwan Jamie, were far more likely to make the cut.

After all, wealthy humans loved to brag about all the prestigious titles their hybrids had. It was nothing for a millionaire to put their pedigreed hybrid through medical school, if only to be able to crow about it at their charity galas. Bemusement coloring his words, Jimin found himself voicing his skepticism before he could think better of it, “In your ritzy circles you must have met more than just a few hybrids with careers besides Jin-hyung?”

Jamie paused, her eyes wistful. “Less than you’d think. I’ve met my fair share of hybrids who work in security or are ambassadors and models for human brands because it’s good PR.” Thinking about it, she added, “I’ve also met some hybrid actors too. Very few hybrids in the medical field though.” Jamie finished, combing a hand through her tangled hair.

“Hm, interesting,” Namjoon sat a hand on Taehyung’s shoulder, making one of his black-rimmed ears twitch. “I believe you briefly met Kim Taehyung.”

“I did.” Jamie said evenly, withholding a clear grimace. There was no love lost between the tiger and the ferret, but with the murderous look Taehyung had on his face since their first interaction, it was no wonder she was uncomfortable. A feeling of flight or fight had to be ringing through her, and since she was incapable of putting up much of a fight in her current state, there was only one true choice. A choice they had taken from her too.

Namjoon moved slowly, so as not to startle her, sitting in the chair Jimin had occupied. “Since introductions have been made, I’d like to cut to the chase. You seem like an astute hybrid.”

Jamie shrugged, ”I’d like to think being in such a political household keeps me sharp. I know when someone wants something. It’s just not usually from me.”

Crossing one leg over his knee and steepling his hands together on his thigh, the wolf hybrid stared thoughtfully at the alert young woman on the bed. “Jamie, how familiar are you with the name Bangtan Sonyeondan?”

The sharp intake of air she drew answered that question.

Eunoia // Ch. 19

One thing you hadn’t considered before going undercover for the police was the sneaking around to reach your hotel room. A tiger hybrid that hadn’t been there for the rest of your stay was returning with you and John’s jacket was the only garment that was covering anything. You had to take the back door to avoid being seen by any too curious eyes and bribe someone from the hotel staff to let you use the staff’s elevator. As an excuse, you told him you were afraid someone was following you, paparazzi or some stalker. John and Taehyung stayed hidden until the staff member left after asking you at least three times if you wanted him to accompany you to your room.

You were lucky the corridors of the top floor were empty and the three of you made it to your room undetected. The reason you were staying at that specific hotel was that it was advertised as valuing their guests’ privacy and you had been trying to avoid the press. Now, you were thankful for that choice because there were no cameras in the hallways. If videos of you returning to the hotel with a mostly naked hybrid got out, your career would be over.

The door to your hotel room closed behind you and your shoulders sagged. The silk dress stifled you, pushing your chest more and more until there was nothing left but the impression of all the air you couldn’t take.

You collapsed on the couch and undid the straps on your high heels. When your feet were bare you felt lighter. The first piece of your costume was off.

“I have to go change,” John said. “I feel like the suit is going to eat me up.”

You rolled your neck, hearing tiny cracks. “Believe me, I get it.”

“I’ll be back in a few minutes, I need to change into something more comfortable,” John said, opening the door. “You should do the same. It’ll be a long night.”

Yujin was supposed to call you to update you after the raid. You would have to go back to the police station and officially recount all the events that took place at the auction and point out the ones who organized it. They would need your testimony to strengthen the case and guarantee Hyungjoon wouldn’t escape a prison sentence.

It was two hours past midnight and your flight was leaving Seoul at eight in the morning.

You cleared your head of police protocol and eleven-hour-long flights. Taehyung had stopped by the coffee table in front of the couch, John’s jacket draped over his shoulders. His expression was carefully blank, a statue sculpted to be still and perfect for the viewer’s enjoyment. Some statues displayed more life than he did.

“It’s late,” you said. “You should go to the bedroom and get some rest. Would you like that?”

He nodded and headed to your room without question. He deserved to sleep in a comfortable bed. He deserved everything the world had to offer after being through that monstrous night. And you didn’t know anything else about how it had been before or how many years he had been treated like a slave. Trained.

You took off the gold necklace and your earrings. You couldn’t look at your dress without getting the urge to rip it to pieces, listen to the green silk being torn apart. It was a reminder of a night you already wanted to forget, of a role you never wanted to play again. It was scary. Because you saw people you knew in the faces of those enjoying the show of hybrids being auctioned off. You saw your parents parading around wearing the most famous of designers in large ballrooms. You saw a version of yourself that didn’t exist but could have. And could haves were dangerous.

John returned. He had gotten rid of the suit and he was sporting gray sweatpants and a white t-shirt tight around his biceps.

“Are you going to stay in that?” he asked, looking pointedly at your dress.

“God, no,” you said. “I can’t wait to throw it in the trash.”

John sat down in an armchair facing you. “Are you going to throw a dress worth twenty thousand dollars in the trash?”

“I want to,” you said stubbornly. You weren’t going to throw it in the trash, as tempting as it was. You would donate it somewhere and they could sell it. You would be satisfied if you never saw it again. “You don’t have to be here, you know. You can go to your room and sleep. I will wake you up when Yujin calls.”

“I’m not going anywhere.”

“Taehyung isn’t going to hurt me. Did you see how thin he is?” you asked. “Besides, I don’t think he would try.”

“He wouldn’t,” John said. Both of you were aware that he was probably too scared to do anything but obey you. “But it isn’t Taehyung that I’m worried about. Speaking of Taehyung, where is he?”

You laid back against the arm of the couch and rubbed the sore muscles of your feet. “I sent him to sleep in my room, he must be exhausted. And terrified. I don’t know what else to do.”

“You should sleep too. It will be a few hours until Yujin calls. Breaking up the auction and arresting everyone will take some time. Then they have to take everyone to the station and do whatever work they have to do there before she can call you.”

Yujin had promised to call you as soon as she could. She had been confident about wrapping up everything long before your flight. But John was right, you could fall asleep for a few hours.

“I’m not sure I can sleep,” you said honestly.

The orange bottle was hidden inside a pocket in your suitcase, you packed it for every trip out of habit. During demanding schedules, you had no choice but to swallow one of the pills and fall into a heavy dreamless sleep. You couldn’t afford to be sleepwalking at interviews and red carpets.

“You can try,” John said. “I will be right here.”

He made himself comfortable on the chair, crossing his arms and stretching his legs.

“I could fall asleep like this.”

You chuckled quietly. “Go ahead. Your back will be killing you tomorrow.”

His face scrunched up in distaste. “For the sake of my back, I’m not going to. I’ll be waiting for Yujin’s call. You should go change into your pajamas. The couch looks much more comfortable than my armchair.”

The couch was very comfortable and a few hours of sleeping on it wouldn’t be too bad. It had plenty of space to roll around and you could grab one of the pillows from the bedroom. As far as nightly accommodations went, it could be worse.

“I can try,” you said. “But I have another call to make before that.”

John offered you a bemused smile. “I’m surprised you waited so long. I thought you would have called them the moment we came back.”

You fiddled with your dress. “I was going to. But there was Taehyung
 I can’t bear to look at him like that. He’s so
 lifeless. Like a robot programmed to execute orders. Is that what they turned them into? Shells of themselves?”

“Their goal was a perfect servant. A well-mannered pet. This is exactly what they were aiming for.”

Hate was a strong word, to be used sparingly. When you were younger you used to throw the word around without meaning or rhyme. You hated your parents and you hated your aunt and you hated your friend who pushed you into the sand once. It was all quickly forgotten. Because it was never hate. Growing older you realized that throwing the word around diminished its meaning. You reserved it for the ones who would make your skin crawl and your blood boil.

And after years you found those people. Jimin and Yoongi’s past owner, the organizers of the hybrid fighting ring. Hyungjoon was the only one with both a face and a name. You hated them all.

“How can people be so cruel to them?” you asked bitterly. “They are breaking their souls. And for what? There were children in there. Do they have no conscience? Can they not see that hybrids are the same as us? All of them, every single one of them is sick.”

“They are,” John agreed. He glanced at the door leading to the bedroom. “You will need to wake him up when Yujin calls. They will probably take him in for questioning before returning him to a hybrid center.”

Being in a hybrid center wouldn’t help Taehyung. You couldn’t imagine him getting better there. He needed love and someone to care for him. He should have the freedom he had been denied all these years and anything else he would ever want. But who would adopt a broken hybrid? Because that’s what they would label him as at the adoption center. Not fit to play the happy and cute part. The people who would want to adopt him would have all the wrong reasons.

They couldn’t return him to the adoption center like this. But you could see that there weren’t any other options. Where else would he go?

“It doesn’t feel right,” you said. “He won’t ever be adopted. Not by someone who doesn’t want a slave. He will either spend all his life between adoption centers and shelters or with someone who won’t treat him any better than those people at the auction.”

“But that’s where our job ends. We did everything we could. There is nothing more we can do, we can’t micro-manage who each hybrid will be adopted by. You already saved him. Taehyung isn’t your responsibility.”

“Isn’t he?”

The plan had been clear since the beginning. You were supposed to get a hybrid, the second or third that would be auctioned off and make it believable that you genuinely wanted them. And then when the police had arrested everyone you would give them back to the police and they would attempt to hack the auctions servers and get all the money back, including yours. How could you have predicted that you would grow strangely attached to the hybrid?

John leaned forward, resting his forearms on his legs and clasping his hands together. “You can’t always play savior. Taehyung needs a lot of help and you’re right, as it is he won’t get it at an adoption center. But you are entitled to making a few demands of the police like asking them to offer counseling to the hybrids. You helped enough already.”

Resigned, you wrapped your arms around your legs, laying your cheek on your knees. “You’re right. I just can’t help but feel like I should be doing more for him.”

“What more do you want to do?” John asked in a way that showed he was willing to listen to you. To discuss the matter with you instead of dismissing it. You remained silent. “Are you thinking of adopting him?”

You opened your mouth to reply but closed it again. Were you? There was something tugging at the back of your mind but you hadn’t looked deeper into it. You were avoiding looking deeper into it.

“I shouldn’t be.”

“The police will ask to take him back,” John stated.

Taehyung was part of the case, you couldn’t grab him and leave before it closed. And you couldn’t make the decision by yourself. There were six hybrids back home waiting for you. Things were finally looking up. Yoongi was getting used to the other hybrids, he stopped hiding away and he was talking more. The pack was getting used to having two more hybrids in the house. You couldn’t throw another one at them.

“You should call them,” John interrupted your thoughts. He looked at your discarded purse on the coffee table. “They must be worried sick.”

You reached for your bag and pulled out your phone. John was right, it was about time you called them. You should have called the moment you arrived at the hotel. You blamed the adrenaline of the night and the anxiety that hadn’t yet dissipated. You went to your favorite contacts -the list of your contacts was too long to scroll through- and pressed on Namjoon’s icon.

It was a photo you had taken of him in Virginia. Namjoon was sitting on the grass out in the garden reading a book bound in red leather. He had discovered it in a thrift store on one of your trips to the city, his eyes lighting up at the little treasure. It was an old classic and it once belonged to someone who loved it dearly, evident by the little notes in the margins on every page. Namjoon adored it, keeping it in his room and carefully wrapping it in cloth before packing it for your trip back to Los Angeles.

The phone rang exactly once before he picked up.

“Hey.”

You were greeted by shouts of your name and questions about your well-being. All the hybrids must be gathered around Namjoon’s phone. You realized they had been waiting for you to call and you felt more guilty for not calling them sooner.

“I’m okay, I’m okay,” you reassured them. “John and I are back at the hotel.”

You heard mutters and sighs of relief.

“Thank god,” Namjoon said. “Don’t ever do something like that again. I nearly lost my mind.”

You giggled quietly. “Never. I’m not putting myself through that again.”

You went on to tell them everything from when you arrived at the hotel to the car ride back. It was the exact same story you had told Yujin but now you didn’t focus on the details but the feelings. On the anxiety about revealing yourself and your disgust at the event as a whole. You summarized your experience as best as you could. It was for the best if they didn’t have to live it even if it was through a retelling. You would have refrained from telling them anything if they hadn’t pleaded.

After some hesitation, you mentioned Taehyung. You hadn’t shared with them the police’s plan, it had been too late to call them by then.

“Where is he now?” Jimin asked in a small voice.

“In the bedroom. Sleeping.” You glanced at the door. You couldn’t hear any sounds coming from inside. “I’m not sure he speaks English. He can mostly understand what I’m saying but
 He doesn’t speak, keeps his eyes on the floor. I haven’t heard him utter a single word.”

“Maybe he only knows specific words,” Hoseok offered. “They must have taught him what he needed to know to understand commands.”

Whatever training they had put him through served one purpose; to make him a slave that would do anything for his owners. They had predicted that a lot of the potential buyers would be foreigners since the auction itself had been in English.

Yoongi surprised you by speaking up. “What will happen to him now?”

“I’ll take him to the police station with me, they need to ask him questions about the auction. But I don’t know if he will be of any help to them.”

“After that?” Yoongi asked.

“An adoption center or a shelter,” you said. The wrong feeling hadn’t left you, abandoning Taehyung at an adoption center made you feel unreasonably guilty. “They will take care of him.”

Yoongi made a scornful sound. “Right.”

You rose from the couch, your bare feet touching the cool tiles and your dress sweeping the floor. You shivered. In one hand, you gathered your dress to avoid stepping on it and falling on your face—its length was designed to be worn with high heels. John lifted his head from his phone.

“I don’t want him to be thrown at an adoption center either. Where else are they supposed to take him? I will make sure he will have access to therapy and anything else he needs. I’ll talk to Yujin, she can do something.”

Yoongi didn’t reply. You looked through the glass wall at the city’s millions of multicolored lights, the tall buildings, and the few cars speeding through the streets. Above, the sky was pitch black, the moon invisible and not a star in sight. You missed the clear night sky in Virginia, away from the pollution and the artificial lights. The moon and the stars were bright enough to lead your way.

“Will you come home today?” Jungkook asked timidly.

Your heart swelled at the bunny’s hesitancy. “I will. I’m not missing my flight. Yujin promised I will have more than enough time after giving my statement to go to the airport. We’ll be flying back on the private jet the company rented, they will wait for me if I’m late by a few minutes.”

“You better be here today,” Seokjin said shakily. “You’ve been gone long enough.”

New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Seoul. Private jets and red carpets and camera flashes. It was two weeks you were gone now and as much as you used to adore traveling you couldn’t wait to go home.

“I will be there, I promise.”

Your finger traced the largest building in your view as you said goodbye. The call ended and you placed your hand on the glass dividing you from the outside. An invisible barrier like the lines you couldn’t see anymore. You turned around and laid your back against the glass.

“You should go to sleep,” John said. “I will wake you up when Yujin calls.”

“Okay,” you said, too tired to argue.

You stayed there for a minute before pushing yourself forward and heading to your room. You would take your pajamas from your suitcase and go to the bathroom to put them on. You had to be quiet to not wake up Taehyung and alarm him. You hadn’t even thought to offer him some pajamas before sending him to sleep. Before you went to the police station you would have to give him some clothes to wear. The silks could be evidence so you would have to put them in your bag and hand them over.

You eased the door open and slipped inside through the crack. Your monster of a suitcase was laying on the floor next to the closet. You hadn’t opened the closet once, there was no reason when you were staying for only two days. You looked to the side to make sure Taehyung hadn’t roused and you almost screamed when your eyes fell on him.

Taehyung was kneeling on the bed, head lowered and hands behind his back. The light of the lamps on the nightstand cast shadows on his bare golden skin, his collarbones, and his ribs. You slapped your hand over your eyes so hard it stung and turned your back to him. The image burned itself behind your eyelids, pulsing in an incandescent glow.

For the umpteenth time that night, your stomach churned aggressively in disgust. This was what they had trained him for. You had known but it was much more horrifying seeing it up close. If you hadn’t been there that balding man would have been in your place. Hands touching his golden skin, trailing lower and lower- You clenched your hands into fists at the revolting images your mind conjured up.

You stayed frozen with your back to him, asking yourself what you should do. It was all proving to be too hard and you were lacking severely. You should say something, anything, but Taehyung might not understand you. He hadn’t understood when you asked him to rest, there was no guarantee that he would understand now.

In every hotel, there were spare sheets and blankets in the closet. You pulled out a white blanket that was more fitted for winter than summer and keeping your eyes down, you threw it over Taehyung. Bundling him up in it, you sat down on the bed keeping some distance between you.

His lips parted in surprise, the first sign of anything other than passiveness on his face.

“Sleep now,” you said, connecting your palms and laying your cheek on your hands, using body language to show him what you meant. He didn’t move, his grip tight on the blanket. “Look at me.” He raised his head, his yellow eyes staring at you under his long lashes. “Lay down and sleep. I won’t touch you.”

You held up your hands, palms open. He glanced at the bed confused, looking almost cute. You patted the bed to encourage him. Cautiously, looking between you and the pillows he lowered his body to the bed.

“Close your eyes now. Sleep,” you said.

He did but he remained tense. Like he was waiting for you to do something. You were progressively getting angrier and angrier. At Hyunjoon and the bastards working at the auction, the ones attending, the ones wgo knew about it and did nothing. The world.

You got up from the bed and although Taehyung kept his eyes closed his eyebrows jumped in surprise. You went to your suitcase and opened it, your pajamas were folded on top of the mess that was the rest of your clothes. They were a peach-colored silk set with branches of orange blossoms all over them, a sleeveless top and pants by an Italian brand.

After you changed and came back into the room, Taehyung was in the same position you had left him in. What you had told him could have been interpreted as an order he was obeying. Or he was still waiting for something that wouldn’t come.

Leaving, you made sure to close the door behind you.

♏♩â™Ș♩ ♩â™Ș♩♏♏♩â™Ș♩ ♩â™Ș♩♏♏♩â™Ș♩ ♩â™Ș♩♏♏♩â™Ș♩ ♩â™Ș♩♏♏♩â™Ș♩

The ringing of your phone pulled you out of your slumber. In your blurry vision, you saw John picking it up from the coffee table. Yawning, you rubbed your eyes. You hadn’t gotten a restful sleep. The dream you couldn’t remember had filled you with anxiety and your body was so heavy you couldn’t move.

You pushed through the invisible mist, blinking quickly.

John ended the call before you could ask to take it. “It was Yujin.”

“What did she say?” you croaked, your voice scratchy.

A satisfied smile appeared on his face. “They caught them and they believe they found all the hybrids.”

Your shoulders slumped in relief, your whole body lighter than it had been in days. “That might be the best thing I’ve heard in my life.”

“Right after ‘the Oscar goes to
’?”

“Right after ‘the hybrid fighting ring has been dismantled’,” you corrected him.

“Fair,” John said.

In the past few months, your life had turned upside down. Once you had considered the Oscar ceremonies the most important nights of your life. That had changed without you taking notice. They were nothing more than a red carpet, expensive dresses, and little statues.

John slid his phone in his back pocket and reached for his shoes. “Yujin is waiting for us at the police station. She said they will ask you to identify the organizer.”

You rolled your neck, it was stiff from sleeping on the couch without a proper pillow. “That’s easy. I can’t wait for that bastard to be locked up behind bars. And to think that I believed he was nice two days ago. If I had any less composure I would have punched him in the face while he talked about how well-trained their hybrids are.”

“Be glad you didn’t,” John said. “You wouldn’t get to see him behind bars.”

“You’re right. That’s much more satisfying.”

“And way less dangerous,” John added pointedly. "Go wake Taehyung up. The earlier we go the earlier we can leave. We have a flight to catch in four hours and although it’s a private jet they won’t wait long for us.”

Your back cracked as you got to your feet and by John’s wide-eyed stare the loud sounds were mildly concerning. You told yourself that after this was over you would keep your head down and stick to less dangerous activities. You would take fighting with the producers and filming the same scenes over and over again any time over risking your life.

You knocked on the door leading to your room, determined to do this right. There was no response. You knocked again, waited, and pushed the door open.

Taehyung was sitting on the bed wrapped up in the blanket you had thrown over him. His eyeliner was smudged and the golden chains had fallen down his chest and tangled around his waist and arms. Sleep muddled his eyes.

“Did you sleep well?” you asked him, going to your suitcase to pick out an outfit that would be fit for both the police station and the airport.

Taehyung nodded slowly.

“I’m sorry I didn’t let you sleep for long but we have to go to the police station.” You didn’t know how much he could understand—most likely not a lot—but chattering away was your way of making the atmosphere lighter. “I have to find some clothes for you as well. Let’s see if I have anything that fits you.”

You rummaged through your suitcase for anything he could wear. Your clothes were already messed up, messing them up more wasn’t an issue. But it did make your task rather more troublesome.

“There!” You pulled out a white hoodie you had packed for the airport in London. It was one of the most comfortable articles of clothing you owned and it would be just about the right size for Taehyung. “Now for pants
”

That was going to be much harder. You could ask John but his pants would be way too large on him.

“These will do,” you said holding a pair of black sweatpants. If they didn’t fit, you would try something else. You got up —there were a couple of cracks from your legs— and laid the clothes out on the bed. You gestured to the clothes and then to him. “Put these on.”

You went back to your suitcase to find some clothes for yourself. Taehyung inched towards the clothes and let the blanket fall from his shoulders. He got up from the bed and pulled off the first chain.

You cleared your throat. “You can go to the bathroom.”

Taehyung tilted his head.

You turned your back to him and continued your search. The silks fell to the floor with a whisper. You picked up a pair of black jeans and the first shirt you came across.

Leaving the hotel undetected was easier than slipping inside because of the late hour—so late it was bordering on early. John had the keys to one of the SUVs the production company had rented for the schedules. You would be back before anyone noticed it was missing.

The lights were all on in the police station. A man with tired eyes led you to the second floor. Music was playing through the speakers, the kind that played in elevators. Officers wearing dark bags under their eyes were moving around the rooms, carrying folders and flipping through papers. Phones were ringing and doors buzzing. The bright lights were making you dizzy.

Yujin was talking to two officers when you walked inside a large office that smelled like sweat and old coffee. It was loud in the room, keyboards clinking and people talking into earpieces and walkie-talkies and to each other.

“There you are,” Yujin said with a smile. She told the officers something in Korean and they left with nods in your direction. “Everything went according to plan. I believe Mr. Mallory already told you our operation was completely successful.”

“He did. Some of the best news I’ve woken up to.” Yujin’s gaze fell somewhere behind you. John was standing almost protectively in front of Taehyung, the hybrid’s hair hiding his face. “That’s Taehyung.”

Yujin spoke to him in Korean but got no reaction. Taehyung remained perfectly still other than his tiger ear twitching.

“He hasn’t spoken yet,” you said. “I thought it was because he didn’t understand English but
 He can understand orders.” You cringed at the word. “They were speaking English at the auction.”

“There were a lot of foreigners. Mostly foreigners,” Yujin said. “Everyone was taken to the station but have no worries, none of them will see you here. I just need you to give a statement and identify the organizer. He won’t be able to see you, we will be standing behind a two-way mirror.”

You were aware of the process. You had been through it once before with Hoseok, standing next to him while he pointed at the people that forced them to fight like animals.

“Okay, let’s get it over with.” A yawn escaped you, it was sudden and you couldn’t stop it. “Excuse me, I’m running on two hours of sleep.”

Yujin offered you a sympathetic look, one that said she had been in the same position many times. “I completely understand. We are grateful for everything you have done for the case. I know I have asked a lot of you.” Her expression changed, turning serious with a hint of what could have been guilt. “There’s something you must know.”

You braced yourself. Whatever started with that phrase wasn’t about to be good.

“We believe there are a couple of people involved in the auction who escaped.”

“Escaped? How?” you asked, cold sweat gathering at your forehead.

An officer appeared and spoke to Yujin in quick Korean. Meanwhile, you shoved your hands in your pockets.

During one of the interrogations, someone had cracked and told them that two people working at the auction had been on another floor while the police had ambushed them. They had their descriptions and would give them to airports and train stations and they would be found soon. But that didn’t change the fact that there were two people out there who could learn of your work with the police and inform others in their network.

John placed a hand on your shoulder, the solid weight anchoring something inside you.

Taehyung was taken away by a man in his mid-forties. He didn’t go with him until you gave him your permission or more accurately told him to follow him and do what he asked. You hated that part, ordering him to do something knowing he will do it without question. But you did what you had to do.

You gave your statement and pointed at Hyungjoon in a lineup of men, most of which you could recognize from the auction. Subconsciously you had memorized much more than just the way in and the way out. The police offered to give you back the money you had spent at the auction when they found a way to take over the auction’s accounts. You declined, asking them to give the money to organizations protecting hybrid rights.

After everything was said and done, Yujin asked to speak to you alone in her office. Puzzled, you told John to stay in the waiting room and you would be back shortly. In his face, you saw the split second he thought of protesting, of asking to come with you. He didn’t, only telling you he would be there if you needed anything.

“Take a seat,” Yujin said gesturing to the chairs in front of her desk.

You did, keeping your back straight. The posture of an A-list celebrity. “May I ask what you wanted to talk about?”

“Of course.” She took off her jacket and hung it over the back of her leather chair. “I don’t want to take up more of your time. But there is an important matter I wanted to discuss with you.” You nodded for her to go ahead. “It’s about Taehyung.”

Your body went stiff. You hadn’t stopped thinking about him since he had been taken away.

“Taehyung? Is there something wrong?”

“No, not exactly,” she said. “It’s about you as much as it is about Taehyung. That’s why I called you here. Two people escaped from the auction, who know you were there and they will expect to see you with Taehyung. You are one of the only four guests who left the auction before we got inside, they could be keeping an eye on you.”

A spike of ice pierced your stomach, it had been built piece by piece since you first heard they hadn’t caught everyone. Gathering until frost was spreading all around your body.

“We aren’t sure, it’s nothing but a speculation,” Yujin rushed to add but it didn’t make it any better. “The most possible scenario is that they are rushing to leave the country not caring about what happens to any of you. But we have to take into account every possibility. And the fact remains that they will expect to see you with the hybrid you paid millions of dollars to get. Not only them but also the ones who attended the auction and will be released later. We should have considered it before but we grabbed a lead and ran with it. We didn’t have enough time for proper planning.”

Someone was shouting outside. You rubbed your bare arms. The temperature was low in the offices.

“What am I supposed to do then?” you asked.

Yujin sighed. “I won’t force you to do anything. It’s your decision but- It would be better if Taehyung stayed with you for a while. A few months at most. Then you can take him to an adoption center and if anyone asks you can say you got bored of him, that he wasn’t what you had wanted.”

“That will be beyond traumatizing for him,” you said sharply. “Giving him a home only to take it away from him. You saw how he is. He doesn’t talk, doesn’t look anyone in the eye unless he is told to. He-” You almost told her of how you had walked into your room to find him kneeling on the bed naked, ready to do whatever was asked of him. You didn’t. Even thinking of it made you nauseous. “I can’t do that to him.”

You couldn’t welcome someone into your home, into your life, and kick them out after a few months. You had seen the show many times. You wouldn’t turn someone away, you could only let them go.

“He needs love and care. He has been through hell and back. I won’t do anything that will cause him harm.”

Yujin pinned you with a stare. “He isn’t going to receive any of that at an adoption center and that’s where he’s going if you don’t take him with you. I understand if you don’t want to. You already have six hybrids to take care of as well as a very hectic career. Regardless, I have to inform you of any dangers that you may face and any way to prevent them that we can come up with.”

You sank into the chair. “Are there no other ways?”

She shook her head. “Not any we have found.”

“I’m leaving for Los Angeles in a few hours. I can’t take him with me, all his papers are forged.”

“They had thought of that before auctioning them off. They have managed to trick the system. You will be free to travel with him anywhere you want. He is already registered under your name. Hyungjoon had lawyers and people in hybrid centers working with him, we have a few of their names. They have ensured that none of the buyers would face any problems that could be traced back to them.”

You scoffed. “For such a well-organized business, they went down quickly.”

“All thanks to you,” Yujin reminded you.

You checked the time on your phone. You had to make a decision and make it fast. You weren’t prepared to adopt another hybrid. Shouldn’t adopt another hybrid. But Taehyung was haunting your every thought. You felt responsible for him, you couldn’t deny it.

You sent a quick message to Namjoon hoping he had his phone close. The text bubble appeared, he was writing back. The first bubble appeared. And another.

“I have to book another flight.”

♏♩â™Ș♩ ♩â™Ș♩♏♏♩â™Ș♩ ♩â™Ș♩♏♏♩â™Ș♩ ♩â™Ș♩♏♏♩â™Ș♩ ♩â™Ș♩♏♏♩â™Ș♩

Amelia was a god-sent gift. You called her and the first thing you told her was; “Amelia, I don’t care how many strings you pull or how much it costs. I want a private jet to take me to Los Angeles this morning.” In twenty minutes, she had a private jet ready for you and every person in the crew signing an NDA.

John had frowned.

“Are you going to smuggle him out of the country?”

“I’m not smuggling him out of the country!”

You had explained to him what Yujin had told you, that the papers they had given you at the auction were enough to travel to Los Angeles without anyone asking questions. There, you would have to go to Amelia to tweak a few parts and make some changes. For now, they were good enough. He didn’t try to change your mind, you could tell that he had been thinking over the situation and how it would affect you long before Amelia had called you to her office.

Yujin had left after calling someone to bring the tiger hybrid to you. The case wasn’t closed yet and there was a myriad of things left to do. An officer accompanied Taehyung into the waiting area outside her office. There was a slight tremor in Taehyung’s hands.

Before the man could leave, you asked, “Do you speak English?”

He shifted from foot to foot, unprepared. “A little.”

“Could you translate a few things for me? I don’t think he understands English very well.”

The officer seemed nervous but he nodded. The hardest part about a foreign language was speaking it, understanding it came easier.

You turned to Taehyung, bending so you could look at his face. He looked as beautiful as he had when you had first seen him but the night had taken a toll on him. His makeup was melting, leaving his skin oily and shiny, and his hair was disheveled despite the products they must have used to style it before the auction.

You hoped they had explained everything to him, that you weren’t like the people who had held him captive.

“I’ll be leaving for Los Angeles soon. That’s where I live, where my house is.” You spoke slowly and waited for the officer to translate before you continued. “I would like it very much if you would come with me. But it’s your choice. If you don’t want to, you can go to a hybrid center. They will take care of you there.”

The man translated. Silence spread and you were almost sure Taehyung wouldn’t answer. He did. His low voice sent a shiver down your back.

“He said you are his owner and he will come with you,” the man said in a thick accent.

“If he doesn’t want to, he doesn’t have to. I won't be mad. It's his decision.”

The officer stared at you for a few seconds before repeating your words in Korean. “He said he’ll come with you.”

“Oh. Okay. Uhmm, thanks for translating.”

The officer bowed his head and left.

Taehyung was officially in your care. As official as it could be taking into account the forged documents. But you had the okay from the police and that had to count for something.

You went back to the hotel to pick up your suitcases and check out. You sent a message to the showrunner of Paper Hearts to let her know that something had come up and you wouldn’t be flying back with them. On the way to the airport, you stopped at a bakery and bought some breakfast for the flight. It had become a tradition to get takeout before a flight despite the fact that they offered food on the plane.

You asked Taehyung what he wanted but all he said was; “What you want, mistress”.

“You can call me by my name,” you said, uncomfortable with the title. “I would prefer that.”

He looked at you like it was a test. You were too tired and the language barrier was too hard to navigate so you let it go.

You were terrified you had made a mistake. Taehyung was in a vulnerable position and you had taken advantage of that to cover yourself. He was following you because he believed he should be serving you. However, it wouldn’t be much better for him at an adoption center where he would be gawked at by people looking to get hybrids or locked away in his room because they couldn’t sell him.

The private jet was a little larger than what you were used to, definitely larger than what you needed. You guessed it was the only jet Amelia could rent and get ready for a flight last minute. A long black leather couch stretched on one side with a table in front of it looking ahead at a plasma TV. A vase full of white roses was decorating the table. There were also two leather armchairs on either side of the couch that could spin around. Six more seats were ahead, two on one side and four on the other leaving an empty aisle between them. They were facing each other with two tables between them

This trip would cost you a pretty penny. Normally, you wouldn’t entertain the idea of spending that much money on a flight but given the special circumstances, you weren’t regretting it.

The flight attendant welcomed you, informing you that the jet would be taking off soon. You collapsed on the seat by the window in the group of four, John taking the seat facing yours. You crossed your arms on the table and buried your face in them.

“Finally,” you said. “This trip was endless.”

“Tell me about it,” John agreed.

Promotional tours could range from a couple of weeks to a couple of months so you were on the short end. It still felt endless. Being away from home was getting harder and harder.

You surfaced from your self-made pillow and you noticed that Taehyung wasn’t sitting.

“Take a seat,” you told him realizing he was waiting for you to tell him what to do. You would have to work on that. “You can sit down.”

Wordlessly, Taehyung took the seat next to yours.

“Do you want to sleep?” you asked. Taehyung looked up at you. You guessed the faint expression on his face was confusion. “Wait, I should call Hobi. Maybe he doesn’t know what sleep means.”

You pulled your phone out of your bag but paused.

“What?” John asked. “What are you overthinking about?”

You grimaced. “I’m not
” You couldn’t bring yourself to lie, not after a whole night of lying. Not to John. “I should have called them at the police station. I texted Namjoon but
 He must have told them by now. What if they are angry?”

“I don’t think they will be,” John said honestly. “It’s for your safety. They won’t hold this against you, they want you to be safe. And it isn’t like it’s the first time you’re showing up with spontaneously acquired hybrids.”

“It’s the first time for Hoseok and Yoongi.”

“May I remind you that Hoseok and Yoongi used to be those acquired hybrids?”

The day Jimin had run after Yoongi felt like ages away but also like it was last week. A lot had happened since then, many things had changed. Some things you hadn’t noticed at first. Yoongi and Hoseok were a part of your family now, it didn’t matter if the panther hybrid wasn’t ready to admit it yet.

It wasn’t so long ago you had run out in the middle of the night before the crack of dawn and Yoongi had disappeared leaving no traces behind. Two months. How little that seemed. How long it could be. Lives could change in two months.

“They are still adjusting. And Yoongi,” you trailed off. “I don’t think I can handle his anger now. Things have been going so well and this could ruin that.”

Through the speakers the captain announced that you would be soon taking off, asking you to fasten your seatbelts. You helped Taehyung with his, you guessed it was his first time wearing one.

“Yoongi may surprise you,” John said when the captain stopped speaking.

“There are many kinds of surprises.”

“You have to learn how to think positively instead of always expecting the worst.”

The jet ran smoothly down the runway, taking off without a hitch. If you hadn’t been looking out of the window, you wouldn’t have noticed that you had left the ground.

“Ten hours to Los Angeles,” John said.

“Ten hours to home.”

Sirens.

The thought of a siren brings a chill down anyone’s spine in this world. The idea that there were creatures powerful enough to control a human’s mind with merely just a simple song or a hum of a tune frightens them to the core.

And that was a reality you were forced to accept.

Many servants within the manor find it difficult to look you in the eye. Fearful of what would become of them if they crossed you in any way. Sure some don’t noticeably cower in fear, but you do notice the way many would flinch if you so much as to raise your voice.

While others looked at you in disgust and contempt. Not liking the fact their boss would bring such a dangerous creature into their midst, even if it meant they were more powerful than the other groups out there. Yet they were smart enough to not act out their true feelings and treated you with a decent amount of respect.

“They’re afraid of you,” is what father would tell you, “they’re afraid of what you’re capable of.”

Growing up, you’ve learned at an early age that you were different from everyone else. You couldn’t understand why every time you got angry it was like the animals in the forest would go into a frenzy. Or how scared the servants would get when you yelled. Or how relieved everyone would be if you were in a good mood.

It was only after father gave you a teacher at the age of 6 did you finally have a better understanding of the world around you.

Wendy was a very kind teacher to you, but you can tell even if you’ve known each other for so long, the woman practically being the closest thing to a mother figure to you, is still so very frightful of you. Especially ever since you lashed out at her in your rebellious teen years.

You’ve long since apologized, and she’s long since forgiven you, but even now you can tell just how her body tenses whenever you get a bit frustrated.

But nonetheless, she does her job. But it’s not the type of education most of your human counterparts would have.

No, Wendy was teaching you songs.

Namjoon just thought it was some sort of seafood dish. His friend dared him to eat it, and he was drunk enough to get over his hatred of seafood to try it. He hadn’t known it was mermaid tail.

Four days later, he woke up in a special hospital and was told he was immortal now.

The man that told him introduced himself as Seokjin, and he had a friendly smile.

He was also the only person that touched Namjoon that day that didn’t send his mind and vision spinning into memories of those people or things.

By the end of the day, Seokjin was the only person around and he’d used some sort of spell to make everything
calm and quiet.

Shouts ring out into the air as a woman desperately runs away from what she once called a home, now burning in ashes as it’s surrounded by fierce flames. Footsteps of the pursuers echoing in the forest as they try to find their target within the darkness, making it hard to distinguish whether they were near or not. Not that she’d be able to anyway, what with her heart hammering against her chest.

Suddenly, a shrill cry grabs her attention before she’s looking down at the baby clutched in her embrace.

Looking down, her heart nearly breaks at the frightened look on her daughter’s face. She grips her tightly, firmly hugging her closer, “I’m so sorry baby, I promise this will be all over soon.”

But she was fooling no one, not even her. She knows she’s not fast enough to lose them. She knows she only has a matter of time before they both get captured.

She slows down, whipping her head in every direction in a panic, trying her hardest to find something, anything that could help her. Her eyes light up at the sight of a fallen tree, she knows she’s taking a risk, but she was willing to do anything at this point. In the next second, she grabs her daughter and nearly shoves her under it.

“Y/n, baby,” she says softly, trying to hide the urgency and desperation in her voice, the tears were beginning to well up in her eyes as she gently caresses her daughters hair, “I’m sorry, but mommy’s gonna go away for a while,” she sniffs, her bottom lip quivering as she tries to ingrain her child’s face to her memory.

She leans in closer to place a gentle kiss to her cheek, “I love you so much, please never forget that,” she pleads in a quiet and shaky voice.

At what point had she bought a weighted blanket? And why didn’t the ceiling look the way the one in her apartment’s bedroom always did? A high, sloped wooden ceiling greeted (Y/N) when she woke up, groggy and confused. Was she not at home? Where was this then? Some type of cabin
? Soft snores and the smallest shift on top of her drew her attention away from the unfamiliarity of the room, to the body draped horizontally over her. She stared down, eyes bulging at the back rising and falling in a comfortable slumber.

The covers she had crawled under last night were tangled messily halfway under and halfway on top of them, one of her pillows cradled under her bedmate’s head as he held it snuggly. A golden tail poking from his pajama pants twitched every so often.

Memories came rushing back, and (Y/N) gasped, trying to sit up to no avail with the considerable weight disproportionately resting on top of her. The hybrid sprawled out over her wriggled, slumbering on.

“Taehyung?” She whispered, trying to free one of her arms from where it was trapped. “Taehyung-ssi, wake up!” (Y/N) patted his back with increasing urgency, peering into his face to see if it was having any effect.

She watched as the dog hybrid’s nose twitched, the hair falling into his eyes fluttering before he burrowed further into the pillow he was snuggling. Was he really that comfortable sleeping so awkwardly? His legs were stiff as a board over the side of the bed!

Surprise!!! Sorry I've been MIA for so long, graduating college is no jokes my peeps, and adulting is even worse. I go to bed at 9PM like an old lady and eat cereal out of a Tupperware container bc I'm too lazy to wash a bowl. Enjoy this chapter and I hope to keep updating more for you guys.

Azalea's, Camelia's And Rhododendron's: Chapter 6

Jungkook nervously picks at the fingerless glove that hides his hand tattoos, sitting idly in the living room. It's been a couple of hours since you left the manor with Yoongi and Jimin in tow and he regrets not taking advantage of the opportunity to make up with you sooner. Mira is skirting around the house doing her normal cleaning activities and he can hear her placing heavy tomes back on the wide bookshelves in your office. She's been eyeballing him all morning in what he assumes is irritation... or dislike... or probably both, he deserves it.

He moves to stand outside the door frame of your office, staring at the floor and scuffing his foot on the floor like a child, stealing glances at the woman every few seconds.

"I can feel you burning a hole in the back of my head child, spit it out."

Cheeks burning a fiery red upon being caught by the woman, he feels like he's back in training and should be standing at attention right now.

"I just, umm... I'm sorry about the things I said the other day." Scratching the back of his head in embarrassment and shame, staring down at his shoes again.

Quirking a brow at him, she begins placing the disheveled papers on your desk into a neat pile. "I'm not the one you should be apologizing to, though I appreciate the sentiment, I'm also not the one to give out your forgiveness either."

Nodding in understanding, he lets out a quiet sigh, beginning to turn around when he hears her speak up.

"I spent over twenty years caring for her as if she were my own, and not once did I ever suspect something was wrong. I failed her as the only mother figure she had in her life, and I'll never let it happen again. I will protect her at all costs, even from you." There's an unbreakable fierceness in her eyes, and Jungkook can tell that biological or not, it's clear as day how much she loves you as a daughter.

"I understand. I promise I will never do anything to hurt her again, and I will do my very best to protect her from others." Going into a deep bow out of respect and apology to the caretaker before him.

She locks her eyes on him when he lifts his head, holding him to that promise in her heart.

Her words about you piqued his curiosity and as he's about to ask about your real mother, the alarm system beeps to the opening of the front door, signaling your arrival home.

"We're back!" You yell, Jimin and yourself carrying drawstring bags, and Jungkook observes his second eldest hyung stumble his way through the entryway like a newborn calf.

Catching his breath, Yoongi whips his head at you and your partner in crime. "I told you to never do that while I was in the car, are you trying to give me a heart attack!?"

The two of you are cackling in delight, it was Jimin's idea to switch the car to manual on the way home; you had taken full advantage of your six-gear V10 engine.

"Hey Mira, Hwasa is coming over later, so she'll be here for dinner" You call out to her. The three of you moving to your office with the drawstring bags.

Jimin watches you walk behind your desk and crouch down to press a false panel in the baseboard of your bottom shelf, making the entire section slide out like a drawer, revealing a safe as well as a packed duffel bag behind the backboard. You place the bag in your hands next to the duffel bag and turn to grab the others from Jimin and Yoongi, placing them in and sliding the shelf back in place with a click.

"I'm not gonna lie, that's some spy-type shit and I used to work at the NIS." Yoongi pipes up behind you, leaving you and Jimin to start giggling at his comment.

You get up and move to sit down in your desk chair, "I promise I'm not a spy, Namjoon should know about it if my brother was detailed enough in the information he provided to you guys."

Confused, Jimin asks why your brother would include the location of your safe to bodyguards. It would make sense to know about it if they were home security guards but knowing where your safe is does nothing to help them protect you personally.

You go on to explain that it's not the safe but the compartment itself that's important to know about. The duffel inside is a go-bag for emergencies that require your swift evacuation from the manor, containing everything you would need in the event you need to go into hiding.

The two continue to stare at you like you've grown a second head until Yoongi breaks the silence. "Ya know this doesn't help your case on the spy thing." Jimin nods in agreement, "Yep definitely think you're a spy now."

Rolling your eyes, you shoo them off with the agreement to sort through the bags at night, eyes following them out the door. Turning your attention to your computer, you begin skimming through your emails, noting the file from your lawyer with the restraining order paperwork against Shin. There's also an email from his lawyer with the paperwork for the compensation the judge ordered him to pay you. Forwarding both to Chan you check your work email, finding that Hwasa had already sent you drafts of your return announcement and a tentative schedule for your book promotions to be approved by you.

With your eyes trained on the promotion dates you don't notice the figure standing in the doorway. Jungkook stands timidly much like the same way he did with Mira earlier. Finally swallowing down his fear, he knocks lightly on the doorframe to get your attention. Acknowledging him with a hum, you stay focused on the screen in front of you. When you don't hear any movement or response, you look up to lock eyes with him.

"Come in Jungkook, take a seat." You say, moving your eyes back to your work. The youngest slowly makes his way over to one of the guest chairs sitting in front of your desk, timidly sitting down like it was going to bite him in the ass. He sits for a few seconds, waiting for you to ask him what he wants or lock your eyes back on him, and when it becomes clear you aren't going to initiate this chat with him, he prepares himself to bite the bullet. Yoongi had told him that you'd offered forgiveness after he had promised to put effort into fixing the situation (of course leaving out the part about the 'effort' being absolutely destroying your abusers' reputations). He knows he'd been harsher than Yoongi, and he hopes he can repair the damage he caused as his brother had.

Taking a deep breath he begins his apology, "I'd like to say that I'm very sorry about what I said, it was uncalled for, and I shouldn't have judged you based on my past client's behavior or projected my frustrations on you." He finishes with a silent exhale of relief for getting that off his chest, watching as you stop typing and quirk an eyebrow, looking at him over the glasses on your nose like a judgy librarian.

"Did you think it would be that easy? A few heartfelt words and then all of your guilt can melt away."

"O-of course not!" He stutters out, "I know I have to make the effort to fix this. I crossed a line, not only professionally but personally, and doing so caused you harm. I would like to genuinely make this up to you."

Placing your glasses down on the desk, you lean back to take in the man sitting before you. "And how exactly are you going to do that? I may have been able to strike a deal with Yoongi, but that doesn't mean I've forgiven him yet either. He knows he has to meet my expectations to fix this, but what do you have to offer? What do you have or what can you do to prove to me you mean it?" Crossing your arms, you wait for his response.

"Anything and everything you want from me I'll do; I promise I'll protect you and not just in the scope of my job but emotionally too."

You narrow your eyes at his response, "What makes you think I want anything from you? Much less your protection over my private emotions?"

He knew this wouldn't be easy, earning just a minuscule amount of your trust to begin repairing the damage he's done. But he feels the resentment in your words, and he feels the pain he caused you within that resentment. He wants to heal it, he needs to heal it, if not for himself but for you. A woman who has been hurt by this world far too many times, a woman who is so headstrong despite being torn down so many times. He needs to heal the hurt that he has caused because he took away the little trust you had left in the compassion of human beings.

"I know you don't trust me; I know you resent me for the things I said. I won't try to deny that fact, or that you have every right to deny me the trust to fix the pain I have caused you. Words from people like me probably mean nothing to you, which is why I want to do everything I can to show you that I can be trusted with your safety. I want to do everything in my power to earn your forgiveness, even if that means I have to resign, or wear a carrot costume around Seoul, or drink the most disgusting concoction you can come up with."

You have to hide your desire to crack up at imagining him walking around in a carrot costume, straightening your expression as he looks at you in desperation as he continues to list out even more ridiculous punishments you could put him through. Coming closer to slipping into giggles the more he continues.

He cuts himself off when you raise a hand to stop his rambling, taking a deep breath before you begin to speak.

"Okay, I get it. I'm not going to make you do any of those ridiculous things, but I'll admit I don't know what I could have you do that could fix this either." You take your glasses and put them back on, refocusing on his face.

"Instead, I want you to be the best damn bodyguard you can be without me asking for it. You want me to tell you anything and everything I want from you but I'm not going to do that, if you want to fix this then you're going to have to figure out those things on your own. I want you to impress me, okay?"

Nodding eagerly at your conclusion, he nearly throws the chair back from the force of standing up. Bowing down multiple times as he thanks you relentlessly while vacating your office, excited to go tell his brothers and come up with a plan to accomplish the task you have given him.

You'd think you'd just told an intern that you would let him proofread your drafts, but you can't help the quirk of your mouth into a smirk at his enthusiasm.

Later that night Hwasa came to the manor to finish setting your comeback into stone for the announcement the next morning, staying for dinner as expected, and then left some cardboard file boxes that you'd texted her to bring.

She had pestered you on why you needed them nearly the whole time she was there, and all you'd supplied her with was that they were for your next book. Once everyone else had headed off to bed for the night; Yoongi, Jimin, and you spent hours on end sorting each envelope by date, opening them up, and then filing them away in the boxes.

Working well into the early hours of the morning, when they finally left you to get a few hours of sleep in, you sat looking at the completed file boxes containing the horrors of your childhood.

You hadn't let yourself cry looking at the images, having long since shed your last tears over the pains your monster of a father caused. But you had caught the tears the two men with you had tried to hide, the almost silent gasps of mortification every time they opened up a new envelope.

It made you feel like you had become too numb to the atrocities that had been committed against you, and their anger and sorrow also made you feel relief in a way as well. There were people near you willing to feel the pain and sorrow you could no longer take on, and for that, you felt grateful.

A buzz from your phone pulls you out of your thoughts, and you check it to find the announcement from the company of your return from hiatus. You shoot Chan a text that you need to see him today, and he responds almost immediately with a time to meet at his office.

The anticipation and anxiety sit heavy in your gut. You've quietly held your career outside of the Chaebol world, true identity unknown to the tabloids and all of your father's past business partners. He never let you out in public much regardless, but this is going to bring a whole new spotlight onto you and your family, and Chan has the right to know before shit hits the fan.

Azalea's, Camelia's And Rhododendron's: Chapter 6

Your Louboutin's click menacingly down the silent hallway of your brothers company, Jungkook and Yoongi flank you a few steps ahead while the rest of the boys follow behind. You probably look like something straight out of a mafia movie, and with the impending hellfire you're about to rain down on your family, you feel the sentiment is appropriate.

The employees of Chan's company always go silent when you appear, the hushed whispers of gossip passing around. Most of his employees theorize you're something akin to a Black Widow, a terrifyingly powerful mistress to their goofy CEO, and then there are those that know you by your Pen Name, who think the reason you went on hiatus was to be with Chan.

The two of you have laughed at the gossip Felix has passed on from the employees over the years, and you have no desire to correct them either. Doing so would allow for people to dig more into your brothers background, which would lead to your true identity, defeating the purpose of going by a Pen Name in the first place.

So, yes, you pull a little bit of enjoyment out of scaring the shit out of his employees by looking like a widow on her 5th husband all dead by mysterious natural causes. Life as an author can be a bit boring sometimes, sue you for having a dark sense of humor, you gotta find entertainment somewhere.

Jungkook holds open the door to Chan's office for you and as you step into his office, the heaviness of the situation settles in the room. His gaze meets yours, filled with concern and curiosity. Without a word, he gestures for you to take a seat opposite him. You sink into the plush chair, the weight of the world resting on your shoulders.

The boys take their places around the room and when your brother moves to dismiss them, you pipe up.

"Jimin and Yoongi stay."

He shares a confused look with you but doesn't protest, and Jungkook looks like a kicked puppy with his big doe eyes watching you as he files out the door with the rest of his hyungs.

"I see you're getting along well with the team I hired you." He says, bringing your attention back to him.

Snorting, you deadpan back, "Not at all."

"O...Kay?" He looks at your two remaining bodyguards for answers only to find none. "Anyway, what's going on? Why did you need to see me? You should be focusing on your comeback promotions."

"I've finished the Map of the Soul series, and I'm going to start on a new book."

"That's great-"

 You cut his response short, ripping the theoretical band-aid off. "A book about Father... About me."

His shock is evident on his face, and he quickly clears his throat, looking at Yoongi and Jimin in mild panic. "Bug, I think we should have this conversation in private."

Any other bodyguards would take that as their cue to leave, but they simply look to you for direction on the issue, and you can tell your brother notices it.

"They already know about it, about all of it."

Your response has him whipping his head back in your direction so quick you're surprised he didn't pull a muscle.

"They WHAT!?"

If this wasn't such a heavy topic, you would chuckle at his reaction.

"It's just them, that's why I had them stay. They're going to be kept in the loop while I'm writing the book in order to discretely keep an eye on any potential threats to its release."

You watch as he takes in this information, leaning back in his chair in deep thought, occasionally looking up at you and then the boys.

Finally he settles his gaze back on you, "You're sure about this? This won't just stir up our family it'll stir up the conglomerate world too."

"Absolutely positive. I trusted in the justice system and they failed me, I won't give them the chance to fail the next person who gets sold off like a peace of meat for the benefit of corporate gain."

You can see the wince Chan tries to hide at your words, you know he has a lot of guilt at not seeing the truth behind your engagement sooner. Not to mention the treatment you suffered at the hands of your Father.

"You know I will always support you, no matter what." He looks you dead in the eyes, "But there's one problem..."

Maintaining eye contact, you wait for him to finish his words.

"Mother called me, she's coming back to Korea."

And just like that, everything comes crashing back down again.

The orphanage was warm and cozy. While people were getting ready to spend time with their family, you were handwriting letters, thanking all of the women in the orphanage that cared for you. The orphanage was pretty small, but it was homely, the smell of cinnamon and vanilla filled it. In the living quarters was a stone fireplace, a large furry rug laid in front of it. That’s where you slept most of the time.

It’s where you met Jin for the first time.

“Hey, what are you doing? It’s past curfew!” Those are the words he first said to you.

You rolled your eyes. “Calm down. I’m almost done.” You gathered up all of your letters and put them in envelopes. One of the letters you handed to him.

“Here”, you said. “Give this to Miss Jang in the morning. I put your name on it.”

“Why? I didn’t ask you to do that.”

“Well, Miss Jang has been good to you. It’s only fair.”

Jin was about to walk away until he saw you were still sitting there, staring up at him.

“What? Everyone else is asleep.”

“I can't,” you whispered.

“Can’t what?”

“I can’t sleep, not tired.” you rubbed your eyes.

He sighed. He knew you were sleepy but he didn’t try to fight you on it. Instead, he came and sat down next to you. You laid your head on his lap, letting him run his hands through your hair.

“What’s on your mind?” He’d ask, and you would vent to him about your thoughts. You fell asleep that way every night. The nuns in the orphanage knew that you two would fall asleep by the fireplace but they didn’t seem to mind. He seemed to do a better job at getting you to sleep than they did.

Christmas was coming up. Everybody stayed busy in the orphanage, making decorations and putting presents by the big tree in the dining room. Children were getting adopted left and right, families wanting a change for the new year. Jin’s birthday was last week. You and the nuns made you a cake with 12 candles. You sang a song for him and made him a birthday card, with the help of Miss Jang.

When Jin turned 16, he was given a phone. Since he was the oldest and most responsible child in the orphanage, they wanted to make sure he could contact someone if something happened. He only used it once, the time when you broke your arm on your birthday.

𝐉𝐼𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟗

“Be careful, princess!” Jin shouted from the ground below you.

You were on the roof of the orphanage, a piece of cake in one hand and a bottle of soda in the other. The roof was your special spot, a spot where you could watch the sunrise and sunset. It felt like freedom.

“Calm down, I’m about to get down”, you rolled your eyes, finishing your last piece of cake and drinking your last drop of soda.

Wearing socks on the roof was not the best idea. On your way down, your sock slipped off your foot, causing you to fall on your left shoulder. When you got to the hospital they had to pop your shoulder back in place and give you seven stitches.

But Jin was there for every second, never leaving the side of the hospital bed.

Until you got back to the orphanage, two strange people were standing in the living room.

“Jin! Your back!” Miss Jang greeted him. “This lovely family is here to see you. I’ll show __ to her bed.”

And that was the moment when your world crashed. That was the moment when your life lost its meaning.

That was the moment when you were left alone.

||

After Jin’s talk with the guys, the room went silent. It was too much information to process all at once, but he had to get it off of his chest.

“She was my best friend," he whispered. “It was hard to leave her. I really didn’t want to, but the family that adopted me didn’t want a daughter.”

“Why won’t she talk to you then?” Namjoon asked. It seemed like you had a good relationship before. “What changed?”

đƒđžđœđžđŠđ›đžđ« 𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟎

“Waiting again Miss Kim?” One of the nuns walked past you. You smiled.

“Today is the day ma'am!” You sat out by the window, looking out at the front yard.

“What's today Y/n?”

“It’s Jinnies birthday! He said he was gonna stop by today”, you told her, pointing to the cake you left in the kitchen with a do not touch label on it. “ I made it for him, just like old times.”

You looked at the clock. 2:00 pm. He should’ve been here by now.

So you called. No answer. Then you called again an hour later. No answer. At the end of the night you left him a voicemail while giving the cake to the younger kids in the orphanage.

“Hey, happy birthday Jinnie. Hope you’re okay and uh– I miss you.”

Then you left another one the next year.

“Hey Seok, not sure if you still have this number but
 happy birthday! Uhm, I hope your new family is treating you well. Love you.”

Then you left the last one in 2013.

“Seokie”, you sniffled, trying to calm down. “M-miss Jang is gone
 everyone is gone. Please h-help.”

If only he had come to help you that day. Maybe things would’ve been different.

Maybe.

||

The next meeting with the boys was practically pointless. You were supposed to be talking about what concept they wanted for their clothing line but all you were met with was silence.

“I was thinking”, you started. “We should do an all pink line. It would go great with the concept of your new album. What do you think?”

More silence. They all just sat there, looking at each other.

“Did I miss something?” You raised an eyebrow. It seemed like everyone had this secret meeting and left you out of it.

Jin stood up first. The others followed his example. “We’ve decided as a team that we can no longer continue with this partnership.” His managers looked at them in shock. you guess they didn’t inform anyone else of their careless decision.

You laughed. “Did you decide this before or after your boyfriend showed up at my house unannounced?”

“That was an error in judgment on my part. I apologize, but this is for another reason.”

“Oh, so He finally told you?” You scoffed. “So what? Leave the past in the past and focus on the present. What you're doing is foolish.”

Jin slammed his hand on the table, all of the rage that was building up inside him finally spilling over. “No, what you’re doing is foolish! Acting like above it all?”

“Please”, He laughed. “You’re fooling no one. Just get it over with!”

“Get what over with?” You gave him a blank stare.

“Hit me”, he said. The others looked at him as if she had just lost his mind. “Scream at me, hit me, do something! You, staring at me like I’m some stranger– that’s why I can’t do this!”

“Get over it already”, You told him plainly. “This–this isn’t about you and me! This is about my future and I only have one if we go through with this deal!”

Your manager stepped in. “She’s right. Without this deal Kim & Clothes will not be successful. We need this deal to get other deals, hopefully from overseas.” Namjoon huffed, slamming his hands on the desk out of anger.

“Jin.”

He looked up at you. “Y-yeah?”

“Please do this for me. If you still love me, you will help.”

“Okay”, He whispered.

“Okay?”

“Y-yes, I– we’ll help.”

My Savior (Ch. 1)

(Time travel au, Royalty au, BTS x Reader)

Synopsis: As a hopeless med student that has been accustomed to the roller coaster of mishaps in life, you were sure nothing could get worse than the current situation you’re in. Unfortunately, that thought didn’t include being transported back in the 1400s, nor did it include you being an apparent reincarnation of the person you hated most. Now, can this get any worst?

Pairing: BTS x reader

Warnings: Inaccurate history, angst, bystander effect, verbal abuse (reader received some insults and humiliated), harmful thoughts, implied politics (in connection only to the story, there are no real politician mentioned here), corruption in politics, unreliable narrator (if I forgot something, feel free to comment or send an ask?)

A/n: university life is shit and I was eyeing for this to be at 5k words but if I stuck to that, I wouldn’t finish this. If you like it, please reblog. Reblogs are worth more than likes here right?

Inferno - @hamsterclaw

Namjoon and you sign up as officers of Project Inferno, a global endeavour to save Earth from collapse. It’s a high-risk operation, and no one knows the risk better than Yoongi, one of the few men to make it back from the trench.

Right Here, Right Now - @hobidreams

What if little red wants to get eaten by the big bad wolves? (Rapline x Reader.)

Before I Leave You - @hollyhomburg

Someone always has to leave first; They just didn’t expect Yoongi to come back with a new omega (who’s clearly been through some shit).

These Entangled Paths (Maknae Line) (Hyung Line) - @mirahuyooo

In which, you cross paths with a man, who, unbeknownst to you, holds the city by the neck in fear. Your life will never be the same.

Of Coincidence and Fate (Pt. 2 of These Entangled Paths) - ^^

In which, the man of the underworld is thrown back into the path of a certain woman that hasn’t left his mind. His life will never be the same.

It's Nothing - ^^

In which, he faces certain danger—something he’s quite used to, given his line of work—and now has to face the consequences of you discovering it.

Overdue - @namjooningelsewhere

Love is indeed a beautiful feeling, but does not come without its obstacles. When your 7 loving, idol boyfriends think it’s better to date someone within the industry or like they put it “Someone who knows their world”, you have no choice but to accept their abrupt decision.

War of the Hearts - ^^

You’ve been lurking in the shadows, protecting the seven of Bangtan even if it means you must give your own life. After all, that’s what you do when you are in love with someone irrevocably. That pain seems to be miniscule in light of their safety. But it was never about you, for all you are is a speck of dust in the universe they have created for them and their girlfriend. Your heart’s at war, but it’s fine, you can smile through the pain as long as it means they smile- for her.

My Dear Melancholy - @pasteljeon

In which you’re rich and lonely so you adopt 7 hybrids. chaos ensues. (Even though there's only one chapter, I love it so give it a read!)

The Little Fox - @purpleyoonn

Just as you escaped the Little Fox, a bidding house, you find yourself at war with your thoughts, not wanting to go to another shelter. You didn’t expect yourself to find a home anywhere, especially not with the men who found you, and their pack.

A Bond Made of Love - ^^

Your last owner had almost beaten you to death, leaving you at the very shelter he had adopted you from. This time, two tall men walk in, immediately drawn to you as you rested in your small cage. You couldn’t help but become attached, just hoping you wouldn’t be abandoned once again by the idols you grow to love.

Knife's Edge - @readyplayerhobi

The Jeon Clan is Family, built on blood and loyalty. It’s been an unspoken fact that one day you will marry the heir to the Clan, Jeon Jungkook. You would be a fool to deny that you love him, but what happens when you meet a blue haired man who offers you a chance at normality?

Fortuna - ^^

300 years ago, half the world’s population died when the experimental Fortuna virus escaped. The remaining male population has been rendered infertile with one loophole that has meant polyamorous relationships have become the norm.

Three's a Crowd - ^^

Jungkook agrees to a threesome with you and your boyfriend, Namjoon. The night promises to be a fun time for all three of you, with you all living out your wildest fantasies. Three might be a crowd sometimes, but tonight it’s just right.

Whirlwind - @secret-kpoplibrary

You wouldn’t say your life is perfect, far from it in fact, but you make the best of it anyway. But a rapidly occurring series of events in your life results in a lot of changes. Some good, some bad. It’s hard to tell when it’ll end, but you find yourself meeting new people along the way that make you feel like you can tackle just about anything that comes you guys’ way.

Oasis - ^^

Running a hybrid sanctuary isn’t always be easy, especially not when it specializes in rehabilitating hybrids with physical and mental disabilities. But no matter the challenges you may encounter, the guests you encounter always are a constant reminder that it’s 100% worth it.

Unexpected - ^^

Working as a medic for the police you’ve seen your fair share of interesting situations, to say the least. So when you find yourself tasked with helping 3 omegas following an underground fighting ring bust you absolutely don’t think any of them would get attached to you, let alone all three. But now that they’ve decided you’re their alpha it seems you’ve got a few changes to make.

Tomorrow - ^^

You and your German Shephard hybrid have been on the police force for five years now. The job has its exciting moments sure but for the most part you’d consider it pretty straightforward from shift to shift. A noise complaint usually means a rowdy neighbor not a badly beaten hybrid tied to a tree so- you’d say this counts as one of those less than straightforward circumstances.

Not Gonna Happen - @shadowofahope

“Uh guys
. She’s rolling away.” Yoongi points to you and your attempt to escape the room. Hands grab your ankles to halt your getaway. “I hate all of you.” You groan up at Yeonjun, who still had hold of you. You give up, letting out a deep sight, wishing the ground would open from under you.

The Price we Pay - ^^

Shoes echo in the room as they all leave him alone with his thoughts. Goodbyes unheard by the man now drenched in sweat, fists gripped tightly to his desk. This could be a terrible idea, one of his worst, but he had to try. There was only one person capable of helping him now, to keep his boys safe.

Eucalyptus - ^^

A sugar glider hybrid with a broken past. Seven men convinced they can give her the life she’s always wanted. Sometimes destiny has a funny way of finding you, and sometimes it smells like Eucalyptus.

Sanctuary - @softykooky (All time fav!!!!)

Some people are lucky enough to be born into a family that loves them. others meet their family in a coffee shop while on the run from the Korean ambassador, while they’re holding a man at gunpoint and beating him to a pulp for treason against their syndicate.

Ruin You (Sequel: Ruined) - @taegularities

One-Time Threesome into more with Jungkook and Taehyung.

Daddy's Money - @underthe-northernlight

The daughter of a filthy rich businessman is gifted hybrids by her father. But if only he knew that would lead to her gaining the confidence she will need to break free from what he deems the right place for her.

Journey to the Dick - @whatifyoulivelikethat

Absolute crack smut with OT7

Double Dare - ^^

Sequel to Journey to the Dick, welcome to more crack smut!

Eunoia - @wishesunderthestars

You are a world famous director and you have dedicated your life to your job.You have everything you could ever dream of; wealth, recognision, talent, your friends and family. But loneliness isn’t cured by success. So what happens when you somehow rescue seven hybrids? Can they fill the void?

Little Do You Know - @yoongiofmine

In a world where idols and actors can’t date, whether it be because of contracts, lack of time, or the dangers that involve having your personal life leaked, the market opened up for a new work field. Playmate Agencies emerged to supply the entertainment world with highly trained companions for hire. Bangtan is looking for new playmates. And you just happen to be the one all of them choose.

Bed & Boyfriends - @yoonia

It was meant to be a simple weekend away with your boyfriend. Inviting his best friends for the ride had sounded like a brilliant, yet an innocent idea just the same. Until the secrets are out and revealed, and the heat from the weekend becomes the sinful flame that may engulf you until you are left into nothing else but sparkles of dust tethering in the blissful wind.

Ravished by Two - ^^

Two dominant Alphas, one defining goal. But how far can you catch up with two prime, tenacious males overcome with desire?

The Return of an Empress - @you-are-my-joy

After one fateful night, you find yourself transmigrated into your favorite novel as the Empress that shares the same name as you. As a bookworm, most would think you’d be happy, but how could you be happy when the Empress you’ve become is expected to be killed in three months. The only thing on your mind now is to learn how to survive.

The Great Pretender (3)

The Great Pretender (3)

chapter: three ( 2k ) genre: fluff | angst | romance | hurt/comfort tags: bts x reader | ot7 x reader | abo au | poly warnings: sexual harassment, overthinking? summary: Lately, the mask you’ve worn since childhood is slowly getting more suffocating by the day. It doesn’t help that along with this, you’re also trying to find your place in your newfound pack. With their insistent attempt to get closer to you, will you still be able to prevent yourself from slipping? beta: @destructiveasparagus (thank you for the comments they are sooo detailed and everything, it really helped and all. It took me pretty long to finish this and I really tried fixing this chapter with the comments you gave me huhu thank you so much đŸ„°) ch 1 / ch 2 / ch 3

The Great Pretender (3)

The office was a little too quiet, a little too dark, and a little too empty. But it doesn’t matter since you don’t notice it anyway with how stuck you still are in the thoughts that you’ve had this morning - or dawn to be precise.

Pacing back and forth in the little space you have just beside your work cubicle, you think of ways to cover up your mistake last night. You still remember how Hoseok and Yoongi’s arms wrapped around you, tightly, from each side. Feeling lonely, you hug yourself.

Despite the sweat running down from your temples, it’s strangely cold, So you run your hands up and down your upper arms, in an attempt to simulate the warmth you felt last night, but it barely makes a difference.

Self-disgust starts creeping in when you realize just how much you crave feeling oh-so-small in the middle of them. Actually, wanting the affection you received that night and feeling so soft. Your nails start to dig deeper on the upper arm, leaving nail marks. Alphas are not supposed to feel that way. You’re not raised to feel that way.

You know that you’re overthinking it, that you were able to escape the nest without anyone noticing. You probably have nothing to worry about. But a part of your brain says that your escape is just temporary - it’s just you delaying things.

So you try to rationalize, in order to stop yourself from spiraling.

Okay. Best case scenario is they haven’t noticed at all. They haven’t noticed when your unconscious self sleepwalked to their nest and slotted herself in the middle of their intimate pack cuddle - more specifically, inserted herself in between the warm hugs of Hobi and Yoongi. They also didn’t notice you fleeing before they even woke up. So it appears as if nothing has happened and you slept all night alone in your own room, just like how you should’ve been.

Worst case scenario - which is, by the way, unlikely than the one prior but, nevertheless, is still a probability to consider - is that someone woke up last night when you sleepwalked to the nest. And they were forced to sleep uncomfortably because you just invaded an intimate space that you were clearly uninvited in. They witnessed how soft you were of an alpha and are annoyed that they have to deal with their needy and clingy ass. They’ll soon realize how you were faking it all along and you’re not the strong and independent alpha that you pretended to be. The alphas would be disappointed, the betas weirded out, and the omegas disgusted. You failed them as an alpha and they’ll want to kick you out of the pack.

Now, weighing both scenarios, one is more likely than the other because had it been the second one then it wouldn’t make sense for Yoongi and Hoseok to willingly cuddle you. If they were dead asleep, it is more natural that they’d hug you close, thinking that your body is just one of their other pack mates and not you.

That makes sense. Okay. Obviously there is no need to panic anymore.

All you have to worry about is how you’ll act when you go home and face them. If you act like everything’s normal and mask the guilt you feel then you’ll be fine. If it gets too hard you can just pretend you have another business trip and spend the night in your unit until the guilt fades away.

Okay, maybe that last option is too severe. But you’d like to believe you’re a decent actress, so you got this in the bag. The last option is just a big “what if.”

With a solution now in mind, you move forward and try to brainstorm for the prevention part of the plan.

You’re too scared to imagine just how much bigger your slip-ups could get. Sure, you’ve had them frequently these days - like how you almost cuddled Lisa openly in public last week or how you accidentally let out a whine in your phone call with Yoongi - but those were just small, minor mistakes that are easy to cover up.

Last night was too risky. This week was supposed to be your heat. Sure, the suppressants were able to stop them from actually happening but the doctor warned you that it could still be triggered by strong scenting of mates or intimate contact with partners. In short, you were in a very sensitive and vulnerable spot right now. You couldn’t afford to have anoth -

Before you can even finish your train of thought, you heard a loud crashing sound in one of the closed offices.

Startled by the loud sound, it takes you a minute before you move to check where the sound came from. And as you walk closer to where you thought you heard the sound, you slowly sink in dread when you realize that you are heading towards your boss’s office.

It should be fine right? You have to check just in case someone was hurt.

Surely, he hasn’t arrived in the office yet - it’s too early. It could just be the janitor slipping on the floor?

Deep inside you knew that you were only holding onto false hope. Your boss was particularly known to arrive even before office hours. The reason - you’re not sure. You can only suspect that that’s the time he actually gets his job done. That would explain how he’s able to spend the rest of the office hours frolicking around and terrorizing his subordinates without falling behind his workload. It’s one of the reasons the higher ups can’t just kick him out. He’s an efficient worker. Although he was never one to work well with others, no one could deny that he actually is able to get things done.

You try to approach the door as quietly as you can. The silence of the office makes the sound of your heartbeat much louder to your ears.

The door creaks a little even as you open it the slowest that you can. And as you catch a brief glimpse of your boss from the small gap you created by the door, you try your best to retreat swiftly. Except it doesn’t work because in your hurry you accidentally slam the door shut.

You were about to bolt when your boss’s voice halts your every movement.

“Whoever is out there, come back in before I call security and fire you. There are surveillance cameras just outside my office, I can easily know your identity by checking them later.”

He’s eerily calm for someone who just caught someone sneaking to his office. Isn’t he afraid it might be an actual robber. How is he so sure it’s an employee? Plus it’s like 5 am in the morning, isn’t he scared that I might be like a ghost or something?

“Quickly, before I lose my patience.” With that threat, all your other thoughts vanish and you enter the room with your head lowered.

“If it isn’t my favorite girl? Y/N, I knew you’d one day fold.”

You momentarily cringe at the endearment before confusion starts to seep in. It must have been evident in your facial expression because before the pregnant silence envelops you any longer, he expounds further.

“You’re starting to regret choosing your pack. You’re here to beg me to take you.”

At his confident statement, you flinch. For the first time, you raise your head and attempt to throw him a look of disgust and distaste only for it to morph into shock.

His eyes were bloodshot red. Hair and suit, a mess. Papers and pens are scattered everywhere. There are some pieces of ceramic and glass on the floor. His table is cleared. Now, that must be the cause of the sound. He threw all of the items on his desk to the floor, including his pristine glass nameplate.

God, did just trash his office? This early? On a Monday? That’s fucked up.

He takes a step closer to you, and oddly he takes a huge sniff.

And if you weren’t peeved enough by the mess he had in his office, that obviously perverted action definitely set you off.

“Fucking hell. Baby, you don’t even have to beg anymore. You offering me to take you on your heat is definitely enough to make up for ditching me over that stupid pack of yours.”

The fuck?!?

Then it hits you. In your rush to leave home, you forgot to take your suppressants and apply some scent mask, just like how your doctor advised you.

You take a step back, clearly heading for the door in the most subtlest of ways. And your boss, still drunk on the scent of you, doesn't seem to notice your obvious attempt to escape - that you don’t want this, that it was not your intention to ask him to help you on your heat. Instead, he creeps even closer, slowly, as if approaching prey - which was ironic at this point since you were the alpha.

He’s not any bigger than usual betas but you were smaller than a normal alpha - if it weren’t for your scent, many could mistake you as an omega because of your physique. Still, size wasn’t the issue- you can beat him in a fight any day - it’s the evident power gap.

The old man had vast connections ranging from different industries. Shitty attitude aside, many actually respect him for his output and works. He’s an asset to the company, one they wouldn’t want to lose. If a harassment case were ever to blossom from this, you know that it’d be you that the company would lay off. You were pretty sure that wasn’t legal but they have their ways. The thing is, you’re just not important to the company as this man is. And if they have to, you’re an expense they’re willing to pay just to make the man stay.

You’re extremely close to the door now. Witnessing your threatened state doesn’t seem to bother or agitate the beta. He just leans close to sniff again just near your neck. You freeze then shudder. Disgusted but unable to move, scared that your sudden movement might trigger him to bite your flesh.

Only after he leans back and shows you a demeaning smirk did you finally push him hard and rush out the door, heading to the nearest comfort room to wash away his claim on you. As you run, you hear him shout from the room.

“I’ll wait for your heat to peak, baby! I’ll take you!”

~~~~~
You felt pretty much numb after the encounter, so you just stayed in your cubicle.
It’s not sexual harassment right? Sure, you felt uncomfortable but he technically didn’t touch you. Maybe you’re just overreacting. Plus even if it is, will anyone believe you? An alpha getting harassed by a beta - is that even possible. It’s probably your fault. You’re an alpha for god’s sake, you could’ve just used your physical strength or alpha voice. Why can’t you defend yourself?
One by one, other employees start filling the office and heading to their respective work cubicles. It hits you that you probably have to leave. Because of the open area design of the office, your pheromones can easily be detected by others and they’ll know you’re on your pre-heat - which is kind of embarrassing since it’s seen as taboo and rude to continue going to office once one knows they’re in their pre-heat or pre-rut stage. It’s a customary gesture to just take a leave and stay at home in order to not disturb or distract other employees with your pheromones or even stimulate arousal from your co-workers.
You make a quick email to your ass-of-a-boss, requesting an emergency leave. It was probably more appropriate to ask him directly as he’s literally in the same floor, but you’d rather not encounter him again. With that, you pack your things and leave.
Goodnight Jimin.
I drift off after giving Jimin the soft kiss, my heart warming.
I wake up in a dark, damp room. I can’t see much. But the atmosphere makes it feel like a distant memory of some kind. “Stupid!” The word rings in my ears, over and over again. What’s going on? The overwhelming feeling of panic sets in, even if in the back of my mind I know it’s a dream nightmare. A hand comes dangerously close to my face and I flinch, expecting the blow when-
I wake up in a cold sweat, my heart beating out of my chest. My vision is blurry and I can feel someone touching my arms. It’s not him, It’s not him, I tell myself, but still shrug them off. I focus on calming down my heart but I still feel the slight tears leaking from my eyes.
I fumble around for my glasses, and after I put them on someone flicks on a lamp. I blink to get my vision to focus and see that it’s Jimin. That’s when I remember I’m in the living room. And Jimin and I were sleeping together on the couch.
“Y/n
it’s just me. I’m assuming you had a bad dream?” Jimin’s voice is soft, quiet as he speaks to me.
I try to speak but my body shudders as I inhale. Jimin grabs a Kleenex for me and I wipe my eyes messily as I try to slow my breathing.
Jimin just sits next to me on the couch, not touching me or trying to speak to me. I appreciate his presence as it gives me a small sense of calm.
After I start to breathe more normally, I try to explain what happened to Jimin.
“I-“ sniffle, “I had a bad dream
” I want to tell the whole story but somehow can’t bring myself to say it.
“It’s okay. You don’t need to explain to me. I’m here for you,” Jimin says, eyes full of sympathy.
“I’m sorry I woke you up,” I whisper.
“Don’t apologize. I’m just glad you’re okay,” Jimin responds, moving slightly closer to me and draping a blanket over my lap.
“What time is it?” I ask, turning my head to look outside. The full-length windows don’t have the blinds pulled down, telling me the boys forgot to shut them yesterday after the movie.
“Around six in the morning. The sun should be coming up soon,” Jimin replies.
“Oh!” I know it’s cheesy, but I’ve always loved sunrises and sunsets. The beauty of nature is something I’ve always admired. Whenever I complained about getting up early for dance practice my mom would always point outside and say, “Be lucky that you can see the blessings of nature.”
“Should we go watch it? We can go to your balcony. Up there’s a perfect spot to see it!” Jimin says, starting to sound a bit excited.
“Okay,” I agree, both for Jimin and I’s hearts.
After grabbing more blankets, we go tiptoeing across the hardwood floor we sneak up the stairs and past the other boys’ rooms. Jimin slides the door to the balcony open and gestures for me to follow him.
Shutting the door silently behind me I settle into one of the wicker chairs, pulling the blanket warmer around me. Jimin sits next to me.
The ethereal shades start to appear and I am once again in awe of nature. How is it that the sun can make such gorgeous tones?
Jimin and I sit in silence for a while, enjoying the show in the sky. After the sun is mostly up, the door slides open again. We both turn around and it’s Namjoon, still in his pajamas.
“What are you two doing up so early?” He asks us, still looking groggy himself.
“We wanted to watch the sunrise!” Jimin chirps, thankfully omitting how I had a nightmare.
Namjoon shakes his head fondly, smiling at us now.
“That tracks. Mind if I join you?” He asks, stepping onto the balcony.
“No, of course not. C’mere Joonie,” Jimin says, making grabby hands at him, “I want to sit in your lap.” His clingy mood must be appearing.
“See y/n? He’s our baby, whether or not he admits it,” Namjoon teases Jimin, making him whine and stand up.
“Just come on!”
Namjoon chuckles but obliges, sitting and pulling Jimin (and the blanket) into his lap. Jimin immediately cuddles into him.
“You’re always so warm Joon,” he half mumbles, practically melting into Namjoon.
I almost coo at them, their soft sides clearly showing in the early hours.
It’s not long before Jin wakes up, dragging a dead looking Yoongi with him as they join us on the balcony.
“Morning you two,” I say, a faint smile on my face while I look at Yoongi.
“Morning y/n! And Jimin. And Namjoon.” Jin greets us brightly, and then, mimicking Namjoon, pulls Yoongi to sit on his lap.
Surprisingly, Yoongi doesn’t put up much of a fight. It’s probably because he looks like he didn’t get a wink of sleep last night.
“Yoongi,” I ask carefully, “How much sleep did you get last night?”
Groaning softly, he buries his head into Jin’s shoulder, effectively avoiding the question.
“What he means to say is that when I woke up he was on his computer in his room, sneakily working.” Jin scolds the soft boy on him, but said soft boy just cuddles deeper into Jin.
“Oh, Yoodles, you shouldn’t do that to yourself,” I say, concerned about how frequently he can’t sleep.
“Mmm sorry,” Yoongi murmurs into Jin’s broad shoulder.
“Yoongi? Apologizing? Wow, you must really be magical, y/n, because he’s usually just a grump.” Jimin says cheekily, earning the middle finger from Yoongi.
“Is that so? Well, I’ve never seen him be grumpy, Jimin, so I’m not sure if that’s factual,” I say, still looking at the cat-like boy.
“Yeah, so shut up Jimin,” Yoongi drawls, slowly turning his head so we can all see the smug look on his face.
“Okay, okay. Let’s just relax and look at the sunrise, you two,” Namjoon says with a tired voice.
We relapse into silence, the breeze adding a slight chill to this autumn morning. The trees are starting to change, showing hints of their gorgeous crimson leaves. Autumn means about two and a half months since leaving him behind, and about two and a half months of being with the boys.
Eventually, double trouble joins us, Taehyung sitting in Jungkook’s lap. Uh oh, this seems to be a pattern. Which means-
“Hey, Hobi-hyung, you should let y/n sit in your lap!” Jungkook blurts out, seeing him linger in the doorway.
I feel my cheeks color, and turn to Jungkook, about to say something, but Jin beats me to it.
“Kook! That might make y/n uncomfortable. Please try to consider how she would feel about this.”
Poor Jin looks exasperated at the bunny, so I quickly say, “It’s okay! I know he didn’t mean anything about it. He probably just saw everyone else doing the same thing. I’m fine with whatever, as long as Hobi is okay with it.”
I turn and see a Hobi that I can only describe as fluffy. Fluffy hair, fluffy clothes, fluffy slippers. (based off of a sleepy fluffy hobi I saw in an instagram reel :))
“Yeah, I don’t care either,” Hobi says, so I stand up and let him have my chair and then sit down (tentatively) in his lap.
“Let me know if you want me to get up,” I say quietly to him, trying to ignore the blush that’s appearing on my cheeks again.
“It’s fine y/n. Besides, we’ll both be warmer this way,” Hobi says, draping the blanket over both of us.
I’m scared of leaning back and try not to feel awkward as the boys start to talk quietly amongst themselves.
“Hey, y/n, I don’t bite, I promise. You can lean back and stuff, it’s fine. Unless you don’t want to, because I’m not going to force you to,” Hobi says, making me more flustered.
“Okay
” I say, and then lean back slowly into his warmth. After I get more comfortable, I realize that Hobi’s practically a heater.
“Hobi, how are you this warm? You’re practically radiating heat,” I say in wonder.
“I think that it’s because he’s blushing~” Jimin singsongs.
I look at Hobi, who’s currently glaring at Jimin. Is he blushing? There is a small tint across his face.
“I am not. And it’s not my fault that I’m warm. I’m just this hot,” Hobi says, now grinning at Jimin, making him roll his eyes.
“Yeah, whatever hyung.”
Taehyung breaks in, “Well y/n sure looks comfy over there.”
All eyes look to me and I cover my face with my hands.
“Guys, please don’t start,” I beg, “I’m just keeping myself warm. It is autumn after all.”
“Suure,” Yoongi drawls, “It’s totally normal for a girl who Hobi used to hate to now sit on his lap.”
Well, when he puts it like that, then yeah I guess it is a bit weird. But now we’re fine! And besides, Jungkook is the one who basically forced us to sit together.
“Y/n blushing! And so is Hobi! Even more than before!” Jimin calls out, a devilish look on his face.
Having had enough, I sigh out of embarrassment.
“Alright, well I think I’ll be going now, I do have class today, and I’m sick of your taunting.” I’m semi-joking about being annoyed, but not really. I just want to escape this awkward situation.
I go to stand up but Hobi doesn’t let me go, his grip on my waist strong.
“Hobi. What are you doing?” I question, confused.
“Yeah Hobi, what are you doing?” Jimin the brat asks, still smirking.
“Just stay for a while longer. You’re warm,” Hobi complains.
He must still be in a sleepy stupor. There’s no way he actually wants me to stay, especially on his lap of all places. But, he looks exhausted, and I don’t mind the warmth either.
“Okay, fine.” I give in, sitting back down.
“Thank you,” he murmurs into my ear, and I feel a small shiver go down my back at his voice.
“Okay, I’ll admit, this is super cute to watch,” Jin says, ignoring the glares Hobi and I send to him.
“Can we please stop talking about y/n and I?” Hobi asks, exasperated.
“Fine, fine.”
~
After much time spent snuggling, we all have to (reluctantly) get up and get ready for the day.
“Oh shit, it’s already 7:15! I’m going to be so late!” Namjoon exclaims, hastily having Jimin get off his lap and rushing inside. Jimin pouts, but then realizes he had to be at the studio fifteen minutes ago.
“HOBI-HYUNG WE HAVE TO GO!” Jimin screams.
“You have to go. I don’t have class until 10:30 today, remember?” Hobi brags smugly.
“You bitch. Whatever!” Jimin leaves the door wide open.
The remaining boys (minus Hobi) are also starting to freak out.
“I have class soon
should I just skip? I don’t really want to go
” Jungkook rambles.
Taehyung is stressing too.
“I have a meeting with my manager but the sketches for the designs aren’t even done yet!”
Jin doesn’t look too worried, but something is bothering him because I hear him say, “
hope the order comes in today. If not, I guess I’ll have to reorder from a different company. One maybe like
”
Yoongi is just face planted into Jin’s broad shoulder. I know he’s trying to ignore his problems, and honestly, I don’t blame him.
“Well, y/n, seems as we’re the only ones who aren’t late for something, unless you have class today,” Hobi says to me.
“Nope. I do have class, but it doesn’t even start until 9:30, so I’m all good, unlike these idiots.” I gesture to the rest of the men on the balcony.
He and I laugh, only slightly enjoying the chaos.
“Loves, why don’t you go get ready? Y/n and I will help you in any way that we can,” Hobi suggests.
Taehyung and Jungkook head inside quickly, but it’s a small struggle to get Yoongi off of Jin.
“C’mon Yoodles, you have to get ready,” I plead. But all I get is more groaning.
“Jin, can you just carry him inside?” Hobi finally asks, frustrated with Yoongi.
“Yeah, sure.”
Jin carries Yoongi inside bridal-style and Hobi and I gather the blankets to take back to the living room.
Heading inside it’s a mad house. All of the boys are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, and it’s almost comical.
“Have you seen my other sock?”
“Why would I steal your tie, Namjoon?”
“How would I know where your sock is? Learn to keep track of your clothes Jungkook!”
“I don’t know, Jimin. Maybe it’s because you like to play pranks constantly?!”
“Wow. Is it always this chaotic?” I ask Hobi, my eyes widening as Jungkook slips and almost falls on the floor.
“Only when they’re running late,” Hobi responds.
“Should we help them now?” I ask, wanting to help them before they embarrass themselves further.
“Yes. You start and I’ll go take the blankets downstairs,” Hobi says, already taking the remaining blankets from my arms.
“Okay,” I say, already walking to a struggling Namjoon. He’s stuck by the stairs frantically trying to put on his found tie.
“Here, let me.” I quickly knot it and button the cuffs on his shirt.
“Thanks y/n!” He gives me a quick peck on the top of my head and speeds down the stairs, hardly aware of what he just did.
Must be an instinctive thing, I think. I don’t have time to dwell on the kiss before I divert my attention to Taehyung and Jungkook, who are currently looking for the latter’s lost sock in his room.
“Jungkook, can’t you wear other socks?” I ask, going into his room. I audibly gasp at the mess that is his room.
“If you would clean your room maybe this wouldn’t happen!” I exclaim, making Jungkook roll his eyes as he looks under his unmade bed.
“Can it y/n. I don’t want to hear it right now. Now, are you going to help or stand there gaping?”
“I don’t even know what the sock looks like!” I complain, throwing up my hands.
“It’s this,” Taehyung says, holding up a basic white Calvin Klein sock.
“Seriously? Jungkook! You can wear another pair!” I say, looking for another pair in his dresser.
“Actually I can’t,” Jungkook says, stopping looking for a second to cross his arms at me.
“And why not?” I retort.
“Because all my other socks are dirty,” is the proud response.
“Jungkook!” I throw my hands up yet again, amazed how a grown man can act like a teenager.
“Hey you two, stop arguing! Y/n, just look for the damn sock, okay?” Taehyung asks me, annoyed with our banter.
“Fine.”
After deep searching for a bit, Jungkook finds it under a pile of black tshirts.
“Found it!” He cries triumphantly, rushing to put it and the other one on.
“Great,” says Taehyung, “Now I’m going to go get ready. Kook, if you leave without me I’ll burn your favorite bucket hat!” He hops over piles of clothes and dashes to his room.
“I’m going to go help someone else now,” I say, starting to walk out. But Jungkook grabs my arm.
“Wait, y/n. I wanted to apologize for earlier. On the porch. I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable with the Hobi-hyung lap thing. I really didn’t think about it,” he says, doe eyes apologetic.
I don’t respond for a moment, body heating up at how close Jungkook is.
“Hey, y/n? Hello? I’m sorry?”
I snap out of it. They’re just cute men and I’m just getting over my ex.
“What? Oh, yeah. I forgive you silly.” I manage to get out.
“Yay! Thanks y/n!” Jungkook hugs me for a brief second, pulling away far too quickly for my liking. He looks into my eyes after, evil-looking smile starting to form.
“What?” I ask, nervous.
“Nothing. I’ve got to go, see you later y/n.” With that, he runs out, screaming “Tae hurry up!”
I sigh after he leaves, tired of my little crush getting in the way of a good friendship, and confused about Jungkook. Pushing down my thoughts I run out to go help the others.
Looking downstairs, I see Namjoon and Hobi talking, Namjoon tapping his foot. Who would he be waiting on?
I decide to head to look for Jin to see if he needs anything, but pause after passing Yoongi’s room. There’s Jin, sitting with Yoongi at the foot of the bed.
“Hey Jin, how can I help?” I ask, noting how Jin is only half dressed, his patterned pajama pants still on.
“Help Yoongi. Please. Get him to go to work.”
Yoongi still won’t go?
Jin continues, “I have to go or Namjoon will kill me. Thank you y/n!” He leaves quickly, leaving me with a dead Yoongi.
“Hey Yoongi. How can I help you?” I ask, sitting down next to him.
“Can you go to my work? I don’t want to produce music,” Yoongi complains, putting his head on my shoulder, much like he did with Jin earlier.
“Oh Yoodles. I know work isn’t your most favorite thing in the world, but don’t you find some joy in it?” Surely there must be a reason for his job.
“I guess
”
“You get to work with amazing and talented people and help them to achieve their dreams!” I try to hype him up, which semi-works.
“I guess so
” he says reluctantly.
“You’re a dream maker! So, get on up and go help make dreams happen!” I cheer.
“Damn. You really have a way of making me feel guilty y/n,” Yoongi says, slowly getting up and moving to his closet.
“Great! I’m glad it worked,” I say happily, leaving to let him have his privacy.
Now, who else is left? Namjoon and Jin left, Jungkook and Taehyung are almost ready, Yoongi’s finally alive-ish
that only leaves-
“JIMIN-HYUNG!”
I whip my head to the loud shout coming from downstairs. Sure enough, there’s Taehyung, Jungkook, and Jimin. Jimin’s tickling Taehyung on the floor and Jungkook’s recording it. Hobi is nowhere to be seen.
I dash down the stairs, putting my hands on my hips.
“Guys, you’re already late as it is. What’s the point of this?”
Jungkook just grins, enjoying the show, while Jimin says, “TaeTae here decided that it was a good idea to dye my sweatshirt neon orange.”
“I-I’M SORRY HYUNG!” Taehyung screeches out, breathless.
“Mmm
” Jimin just ignores him and Jungkook just keeps recording. Looks like it’s up to me to save poor Tae. I know I can’t physically pull Jimin off of him, but if I could get Jungkook to stop him
“Jungkook, how would Professor Choi feel if you were late to class?” I ask him, raising my eyebrows. Professor Choi is a stickler for punctuality, and if Jungkook was late this would get him on Choi’s bad side.
“Shit, I do have Choi today. C’mon Jimin, let Tae go. Choi’s going to have my head!” Jungkook is frantic now, pulling Jimin off a tired Taehyung.
“Hey, you’re no fun Kook.” Jimin pouts, but Jungkook just drags Taehyung out the door.
“Bye y/n!”
The door shuts.
“What just happened?” Hobi says, coming out of the bathroom, “It sounded like someone was dying.”
I turn to Jimin and say, “This rascal was tickling Taehyung and not letting him and Jungkook leave.”
Jimin sticks his tongue out at me.
“Tattletale!”
“Yeah yeah whatever. Jimin, you need to leave now or else you’re going to be more late. Go.” Hobi says firmly.
“But-“
“No buts. Go. Now.”
“What if I don’t want to?” Jimin says cheekily, crossing his arms. Wow, he must really not want to go teach.
Hobi’s eyes become slits as he takes a couple steps to Jimin, making him slightly nervous. Eventually Jimin’s backed up into the dining table. Hobi has his hands on either side of Jimin, effectively trapping him.
“You will go to work. Or else I will make you. I will drive you there myself and sit in your class to watch you.” Hobi’s voice is fully darkened now, dangerous look in his eyes.
Jimin just shudders slightly, his confidence gone.
“Be a good boy for me.”
This command makes Jimin swallow and say quietly, “Yes, Hobi-hyung.”
“Good.” With that, Hobi steps back and lets Jimin leave.
What did I just see? I must look shocked because Hobi turns to me and laughs.
“Don’t look so scared y/n! Jimin’s just a brat sometimes and needs to be taught to listen to his elders.” The happy Hobi is back?
“Jimin’s always a brat, Hobi,” says Yoongi, coming down the stairs in a nice button down and slacks, foregoing his usual comfy clothes.
“Yeah yeah, I know. Someone’s got to teach him a lesson sometimes,” Hobi says, going to put him arm around Yoongi’s shoulders, “By the way, looking good today, babe. Not the usual sweats I see,” He teases.
“Fuck off. I have a meeting today and I have to dress nice,” Yoongi says, trying to shove Hobi’s arm off but failing.
Hobi just laughs and pulls Yoongi into a kiss.
“Love you too babe.”
I divert my eyes, feeling like I’m interrupting a sweet moment.
“Hobi, I love you too, but I have to go,” says Yoongi, pulling away.
“Okay fine. But I want to kiss you lots when you come home today, okay?“ Hobi says, pout evident on his face.
“Okay, my sunshine. I’ll be back tonight around five, just for you.” Yoongi leaves with one last peck.
It’s quiet now, only Hobi and I in the house. I collapse on the living room couch, appreciating how I sink into the beige cushions.
Hobi sits in an armchair, looking tired as well.
“Well, now it’s just you and me. For a while, anyway,” he says, closing his eyes.
“Yep. I still have about an hour before I have to leave, so I guess I’ll go get ready,” I say, but don’t move. Why is this couch so comfy?
“Cool.” Hobi closes his eyes, ready to fall back asleep.
I lie there for a couple more minutes before I force myself upstairs.
Jimin’s orange-dyed hoodie lies on the floor outside his room, forgotten. I pick it up and decide to put it in his room, as to not have clothes just lying around. Opening the door I turn on the light. Stepping inside I lay the hoodie on a chair, and turn to leave, when I see a notebook open on his desk. It looks like he’s written out choreography.
Taking a step I look and indeed, it’s choreography for a beautiful contemporary dance. It’s a partner dance, with plenty of lifts and moves done together. Huh, I wonder who Jimin made this for. The only other person I can think of is Hobi, but he mostly dances hip-hop.
Then I see the title on the top of the page.
Y/n’s dance
Why would Jimin choreograph a dance for me? And is he the partner?
I rush out of the room, confused. This seems to be a very intimate and special thing, so why would Jimin do this for me? Why not one of his boyfriends?
I go inside my room and get ready, the dance still on my mind. After throwing on random clothes (that I hope are clean) I grab my backpack and go downstairs.
Hobi’s seems to be sleeping again on the armchair, so I quietly open my laptop and double check that I have my homework done. I’m anxious to distract myself from the questions swirling inside my head.
After confirming that I finished my assignment, I stand up to go. After putting my sneakers on I realize that I have to catch the bus today. Usually one of the boys (most likely Jungkook) drives me to class, but they’re all gone and I don’t want to wake Hobi
Just as I’m about to leave, a rough voice says, “Wait, y/n, I’ll drive you.”
I turn and there’s Hobi, rubbing his eyes as he stands up, stretching.
“Oh, Hobi, it’s okay! Sleep a little longer before you have to get to class,” I say, feeling bad that I woke him up.
“It’s fine, y/n. I should probably be there soon anyways, so let me get my shoes on.” Hobi puts a cap on and pulls on his high tops.
Grabbing his keys and bag we head out.
The drive is nice, peaceful. The radio plays quietly in the background, but it’s at a comfortable volume.
Pulling up, I grab my backpack and hop out.
“Thanks for the ride Hobi!” I say, waving as he drives off.
“You two seem to be better,” remarks Hwasa, who’s standing there with Felix and Jackson.
“Oh! Hi guys, I didn’t see you! And yes, we’re better now,” I say, thinking back to the fateful day at the studio.
“Mhmm
interesting. I thought you hated each others’ guts?” Jackson asks, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
“Shut up Jackson,” I say, turning to Felix, “Anyways, how are you?”
“Hey!”
“Shut up Jackson. And I’m fine, I guess. But I had a shit ton of homework this past week. Like, who assigns three different research assignments for a week? That’s barely enough time!” Felix complains.
“I know, right?” I say, feeling for Felix.
But then I look at my watch. “Crap, I’ve got to go. Foundations of Ed awaits!” I feign excitement, but it’s sarcastic.
“Let me walk with you. My class is near there, remember silly?” Hwasa says, linking arms with me.
“Oh yeah, I forgot. Bye boys!” We wave goodbye to Felix and Jackson as we walk down the brick pathway.
“Okay, now that they’re gone, I have a question. What really happened between you and Hobi?” Hwasa immediately jumps to the point.
I sigh.
“Hwasa, nothing happened. We just so happened to agree to get along. I guess you could say we’re friends now, but nothing more.”
“Suuure,” Hwasa says with a roll of her eyes.
“Oh! I wanted to ask you something,” I say quietly, making sure no one is super close to us.
“Hit me girl! I’ll answer to the best of my ability,” says Hwasa, matching my tone.
“Well
you know how you said earlier that the boys are into girls too? What did you mean by that?”
“Exactly what I said! They might not look it, but they def swing both ways. The maknaes especially. But, don’t let that fool you. The older ones also are a sucker for cute girls like you,” Hwasa teases, us now approaching my building.
“Shh! Don’t say that. I was just curious is all,” I say, nudging her.
“I’m sure. Now, you have fun in class and don’t think too hard about the boys!” Hwasa leaves me with a wink.
I sigh before heading to class.
Going to my far corner seat, I see that the chair beside me is still empty. That’s not uncommon, as Seungmin is usually almost late (much to Professor Shin’s dismay).
Sure enough, two minutes until class starts Seungmin comes sliding in, looking as tired as he normally does.
“Hey, Seungmin,” I say,pulling out my assignment as he rests his head on his desk.
“Hey y/n,” He murmers, closing his eyes.
I hit him on the head with my (now) rolled up paper and he whines.
“Why did you do that?”
“Because! Professor Shin is going to be really mad at you, once again. Just sit up and act like you’re paying attention. If you do that I’ll give you my notes later.”
This compromise makes the boy sit up and actually look alert for once.
I laugh at how easy that was.
~
After class Seungmin and I walk downstairs together.
“I’ll send you the notes this evening, okay?” I say to him.
“Okay, thanks again y/n!”
We reach the door and he opens it for me, ever the gentlemen.
Now’s the time where we normally part ways, but Seungmin stops me before I can say goodbye.
“Hey, y/n, I have to tell you something,” he says worriedly.
My brain immediately starts running a million different scenarios. Does he not want to be my friend anymore? Does he not want to be desk partners anymore?
“So there’s this rumor going around that you’re just using the Bangtan boys as your sugar daddies and don’t actually care about them-“ Seungmin starts rambling.
A rumor? Who in the world would be crazy enough to make a rumor that I’m a sugar baby? And with the boys of all people!
“-but I don’t believe it because you’re so nice and always letting me copy your notes but that’s what it is and-“ Poor Seungmin is still going.
“Seungmin,” I reach out to place my hand on his arm, “Slow down. Please. Who told you this?”
“I heard it from Chan who heard it from Han who heard it from Solar who heard it from Hwasa who heard it from Haneul.” Seungmin is now slightly breathless from all the names.
So it is Haneul. I had my suspicions but needed to confirm. That girl! I’m not trying to get into drama but she just keeps creating it.
“Thank you for telling me Seungmin,” I say, giving him a side hug. Why didn’t Hwasa tell me?
“Of course, y/n,” says Seungmin as he accepts the hug. He smells like a candle, warm and strong.
We pull away and I try my best to smile.
“I really do appreciate it,” I say genuinely.
“You’re welcome. And trust me! I don’t believe these rumors and I tell everyone who believes it that it’s not true. I promise I defend you y/n!”
“Thank you. That means a lot. I wish my other friends would‘ve told me.” My brain still wonders why Hwasa didn’t tell me.
“Well, I’m glad I could make you aware. I have to go, Chan’s waiting, but see you later!” He waves goodbye and goes to a handsome man who I assume is ‘Chan.’
‘Chan’ gives me a look as he leads Seungmin away, and it seems like he doesn’t like me. Guess I’ll have to add him to the list.
I’m walking to go eat lunch and text Hwasa on the way there.
me: why didn’t u tell me about the rumor?
It’s on sent still when I reach my usual picnic table. I sit down, waiting for Jackson and Hwasa. Then I get a text from Jackson.
jackson: Hey sorry to skip lunch but Hwasa and I are working on a project :(
There goes me being able to question Hwasa in person. My only hope is that she replies to my text.
I pull out my lunch and am about to eat when I see Haneul and her friends walking up to me. Great.
“Hey y/n!” She says cheerfully, stopping in front of me.
“Hey Haneul,” I say, trying to not show any emotion.
“How are you today?” She asks sweetly.
But her friends blow her nice girl cover, giggling behind their hands.
“I’m fine. How are you?” Hopefully if I act disinterested she and her friends will leave.
“Fine. How’s being a sugar baby?”
I can’t believe she can so blatantly ask that, but with her track record it’s not surprising.
“Haneul, I’m not a sugar baby. You of all people should know how kind the boys are,” I say, giving up a quiet lunch. Maybe I can go hide out in an empty classroom until my Psych class?
These words send Haneul over the edge, as she suddenly shouts out “Just shut up you bitch!” Her hands are balled into fists and her eyes burn into me.
“Just admit it! I don’t understand how some people can’t see what a gold digger you are! You just so happen to stumble upon the boys and live with them? I say it’s not a coincidence! Stop pretending to be a good girl and drop the act! Admit it!”
Hanuel’s practically screaming by now, and many heads have turned to look at us.
I am trying to think of something to say, but freeze. Too many eyes are on us and I don’t want to provoke her more in case she gets violent. That’s what always happened with my ex. I thought that I escaped these situations.
“I’m sorry for anything I did to make you feel this way,” I finally whisper, trying to not draw more attention.
“You’re so fucking stupid, thinking no one would find out.” Haneul utters this sentence and I feel the start of tears form in my eyes. I swallow, attempting but failing to lose the lump in my throat.
Trying to escape, I grab my stuff and make to go anywhere but here. Haneul isn’t done, though.
“I think you’re just sleeping with them in order to live with them! What else would a poor, stupid, gold digger do?”
I force myself to start running, even with the heavy weight of my backpack. I head in a random direction as best as I can.
“Fucking loser!” Haneul shouts behind me.
I’m just grateful that she’s not following me.
Finding a secluded corner under a tree I finally drop my stuff and sit. I feel the tears trickle down my cheeks slowly, my resolve crumbling now that I’m alone.
Why is it I always end up in these situations?
Maybe I should go live in the dorms. That would solve this problem. I should try to distance myself from the boys, so then hopefully there won’t be any more rumors.
My whole body is still as I sit underneath the tree. The tears are dried on my cheeks but my glasses are smudged, and I know I’m getting my clothes dirty.
It all doesn’t matter right now.
I sit there for a while, lost in my thoughts.
After a bit, my phone dings and I check it, grateful for a distraction.
Opening my messages, I hope that it’s Hwasa.
Instead, it’s Jungkook.
jungkookie đŸȘ : What the fuck just happened between u and Haneul?
a/n: thanks for reading! 💗
