i totally get venting about facing microaggressions in public for using a mobility aid, and i've totally done it myself, but after talking with some disabled people who are afraid to start using canes or rollators or wheelchairs because they're worried about people being assholes to them in public, i want to reiterate that my rollator changed my life and that the amount of harassment i've faced is frankly negligible.

anyway today i was able to take the train to physical therapy by myself, and stopped for coffee on the way back, and nothing bad happened and it was a beautiful day.

i think the true horror of i saw the tv glow is the feeling of the narrative haunting you after you've seen it. i think the movie is simultaneously a warning against repression and ignoring your true self, a narrative of those who dont always have the life they wanted to live, and a story full of hope that you can still cut yourself open and see what's inside, and you can always walk out of the door of your old life. but you have to be the one to do it. your friend cannot save you. your interests cannot save you. you have to save yourself and that in itself is a haunting narrative. the horror that we see in i saw the tv glow is not at all jumpscares or gore or creepy crawlies that other horror films have, but its the horror of longing, of fear, of knowing that you shouldve taken that chance when you were younger but you know deep down you can still do it. dont fool yourself into thinking that once you're 20, 25, 30, 40, that you cant take your life into your own hands, that your choices arent yours to make anymore. it will always hurt, at least a little, to cut open your own chest and to let it out and see who you are inside but theres never a better time to do that then now, even if that's when you're stuck at a deadend job after you had a public breakdown. you can walk out of the door. there is still time.

I keep seeing interpretations of Owen revisiting The Pink Opaque and finding it cheesy/childish as being a critique of nostalgia / not worshipping media from your youth, and sure whatever, I get the angle - but I don’t read it that way?

It’s “cheesy” because she’s snuffed out the spark. The glow. She grew up to Be A Man. Raise A Family. She severed the psychic connection - and with that repression, she loses the emotional richness she found in the show as a kid, it’s no longer a boundless space of self exploration / expansion because she’s shoved it all back down and buried it deep inside herself. And that’s the tragedy of that scene. Her family is nonexistent, the campfire she sits around is missing Tara, her favorite show is rendered emotionless, like herself… she snuffed out the space to become the Isabel she always was.

It’s that societal pressure to conform, to sand down your edges and be “consumable”to society. To be “content”, in both senses of the word.

Chat they made Minecraft into a silly goofy cringe movie even through Minecraft is actually about life and earth and the universe and tearing meaning out of the ground and molding it with your hands into something that you can be proud of. They made the pink sheep look ugly and funny for a cheap laugh when it should’ve been a beautiful moment where you, age eleven, come across this rarity, this beautiful anomaly and you hold its face in your hands and stare into its chocolate brown eyes and you realize what the whole world is about. Chat they made it into a joke
