the early morning light shines through the thin fabric of the kitchen window curtains, a soft breeze blowing through and sending a welcome chill down your spine. you attempt to keep your movements as quiet as possible for fear of waking up the man that slept soundly in your shared bedroom, but little do you know that he’s already awake.

vyn richter leans against the doorway with a small smile on his face, the sun’s golden haze illuminating his features as he watches you make tea. his gaze follows you as you weave your way through the kitchen counters, shaking his head when you bite your lip as a result of bumping into a corner. if you were going to go out of your way to keep a surprise, he certainly wasn’t going to ruin it. with one last fond look at you, vyn makes his way back to the bedroom.

with a tray in your hands, you gently call out his name before entering the room. a grin spreads across your lips when you see him look up, holding back a laugh at the sight of his hair sticking up in different directions, “happy birthday, love.”

“thank you, darling.” his voice is raspy from having just woken up, but you can hear every ounce of sincerity in his words. there’s a tug in his heartstrings when he feels your presence next to him as you set the tray of breakfast items on his lap, a light tint on his cheeks at the sight of the handmade card that accompanied them.

vyn may have prided himself in knowing you like the back of his hand, but you did too. it only took a single look at him for you to realize, “you already knew what i was planning, didn’t you?” when he only gives you a chuckle in response, you playfully hit his shoulder with a huff. 

“now, is that any way to treat someone on their birthday?” vyn replies, feigning hurt, “i wouldn’t have woken up so soon if i didn’t feel that you were no longer next to me.” 

you roll your eyes in response, “you’re lucky i love you.”

vyn pecks your cheek, his voice possibly the softest you’ve ever heard it, “the luckiest.”
