BTS & BANG PG, GOOD INSIGHT HIGHLIGHTS:

BTS & BANG PG, GOOD INSIGHT HIGHLIGHTS:

KBS LECTURE & DOCUMENTARY BY BANG PD & BTS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF KPOP.

Bang’s first words to introduce himself: “I am a composer and a producer”. His desire is to move the hearts of the people through the contents.

He enjoyed the English band Duran Duran while growing up, particularly surprised that the musicians were also good looking. He joked that it’s no surprise he became to grow idol artists as a result.

He believes that not many countries can raise such idols. Most follow the American pop system. He did not believe that K-Pop could be on the world stage even until some years ago, and he is still constantly surprised by BTS’ achievements. He will give last year November as an eg.

There have been many saying that the key to BTS’ rise is their use of social media, and while it is not entirely false, it is not the only reason they have succeeded. Many have asked BSH what it was, then, and that’s the question he asks too.

He was sure of something when he saw the boys that came up to Seoul to become trainees. He was sure that their bright talent would come together to become something big.

They’ve shown a bts of BTS practicing for the AMAs stage with their choreographer. The narrator says they have, even in their busy schedule, taking a good time for their practices in America.

JHope said that in the earlier days, they would practice 10 hours at a time, but now, because the members catch what they need to do [and are more skilled], 4 or so hours a day is enough.

Son Sung Deuk, their choreographer, said that it was his personal dream to lead a group particularly good at performance. He says that among the many idol groups, they compete by the quality of their performances.

A lecture on ‘Korean Feminist Kpop fandom’ that was filmed showed the speaker saying that kpop is “culturally, politically, and socially inclusive”.

Q: “What is the reason for Kpop’s popularity around the world?” A: “It’s important that fans are delighted by the performance.” It was very hard in the past for music, sung in a language mostly used only within one peninsula, to become popular, but that is not the case anymore.

BSH highlights the internet as the main reason for this. Social media, the ability to listen to online music sites. A clip of kpop reaction videos was shown. He then highlights that it was a reaction video of 'Dope’ that people became particularly interested in BTS.

He answers the question, then, is that the manner of communication of Kpop is perfect for today’s generation. He says that Kpop is particularly 시각적인, that is, visual. But it is not just the performances that are visual, BSH says – and we see bts of Lumpens working on MVs.

The narrator says that the “Spring Day” MV was particularly heralded for its societal messages. Lumpens wanted a particular word that would highlight the meaning of the MV, and BSH suggested 'Omelas’.

The shoes in the MV are a symbol of the suppressed or forgotten individual, and the fact that it is hung on the tree at the end is to show that they are, in fact, remembered.

Lumpens says that now in kpop, the first way in which you come to an artist is through the MV - through this, you understand the album’s concept, the message, and the style of promotions.

Big Hit (so the staff & BTS) are obsessive about the quality of their work, to the point they basically stop other promotions to practice. Others might comment that this would be a loss of profit, but it is because their goal is to make contents that they are not embarrassed of.

They show us the studio in America in which the D&W album was produced. They remember that while filming their variety show, the BTS members were so tired they slept here on the floors, with just a towel beneath them.

“Pdogg and Bang, they don’t settle for anything less than the best.” “If somebody does a take and it’s like 'yeah, it’s okay’, 'no, do it again’.” “It’s about believing in it, and putting the time and effort into it.”

The members and he have always tried to make music that follows and introduces trends. [BS&T plays] This song is a moombahton trap style song based on the reggae style. DNA, in contrast to songs these days, had a very clear chorus but used EDM.

Audience Q: “What’s different about BTS?” A: “To be able to answer this question, let’s go back to this - [pictures of pre-debut BTS are shown]. He says the basis is in the talent that each of the individuals showed.

He gave Namjoon’s outstanding creative ability as a rapper, & JH, JM’s well-known ability as particular examples.

BSH’s desire for BTS is that they can communicate as an individual to another individual, to give a positive influence to their listener. When they started making the first album, he asked for exactly one thing from them: BTS music has to be the music of their inner selves.

Outside of this, he did not request certain practice hours. He gave them freedom in all things and allowed them to be involved in the process. Most of them were students at the time, which is why their first albums were about school life.

Critics said at the time that it was too cliche to complain about the school system, that the time had already passed [but that’s what they knew]. And as they continued [to speak about things they cared about], the fans increased.

V highlights they’ve always written their own lyrics, even from Cypher 1. Jungkook said that their hope is that they can release an album where BTS composes, writes, and produces it in its entirety.

Suga said that they made the music they did "because nobody else was saying the things that needed to be said”.

Hong Suk Kyung analyses that rather than being taught how to be an idol musician, they did all the things because they /wanted/ to. She believes that they were able to show their genuineness and creativity even within the idol system.

Their honest contemplations have become music, and because of this, people who have empathized have become fans, and they have become who they are today. He believes that what he can do is help them continually do this.

Just as many senior artists paved the way for BTS, BSH hopes BTS can do it for many others. He says the greatest joy would be for BTS to be one of the points in the road that make explode Kpop.

BSH spoke of “양적 성정” as what BTS needs to continue to do. That is, continue in their quantitative growth. Because of their records, the point is being made in Western media that Kpop is now a genre in itself. Such records will grow the conversation in the West.

Q: “Please tell us what sort of group you want BTS to be”. A: We’ve repeatedly said, 'let’s not be a group that cares about numbers.’ We’re not in the Olympics; the moment we talk of records and numbers, we’re not making music. And if this happens, the fans too will only be able to move in such a way. (Note: That is, the fans will also then only become obsessed with records and numbers.) We don’t think this is a good method of communication. We should care about the message, how it’s presented, that it is genuine, and that it doesn’t impact negatively on society.

BSH finished his talk by highlighting how when 'K-pop’ was a term that began to be used, many complained, and that he was one of them. But now it has exploded in an unbelievable way, enjoyed as a culture all over the world.

Of course, there are barriers to overcome, but he believes that Kpop has what it takes, for it is a varied and vibrant style of music. BSH says that he is keen to await, and also be involved in, the future of K-pop. // END.
