i’m probably a few years late here but the whole “the curtains are blue because they’re blue” sentiment is so infuriating. like if you don’t want to read the book, don’t read the book, and if you don’t want to listen to people who read past the words on the page, don’t listen to them.

i truly think people who complain about english teachers “deeping” things are a bit simple, because a story doesn’t need to be plot-heavy or particularly action packed to be interesting or worthy of interest. booktok young adult fiction has fucking ruined our brains for perpetuating that idea. books can be, and i think should be more often, a beautiful expression of life in a more abstract or hard to understand way, or an abstract comment on the way people conduct themselves.

yes, the curtains may be blue because they’re blue, but they could be blue and chosen to be described as such because the surroundings express melancholy that the character also feels (i wonder if people who complain about reading into it too much are aware of expressionism and colour association…).

I'm a cryptid in Stardew valley. I live on the outskirts of town. I disappear for days on end, purchasing daily one-way tickets to the calico desert. Nobody knows where I go while I'm there. “you’ve already seen a movie this week” oh i’m sorry stardew valley am i not the backbone of this fucking town? did i not single-handedly fix the community center, the bus, the boat, and whip up a movie theater on top of that? am i not shipping out thousands of dollars worth of material on the daily and killing monsters for you people? collecting whatever bullshit you ask for? bringing you gifts tailored to your preferences? and when i wish only to play the crane game and get a dinosaur egg you won’t even let me in the door to PAY YOU MONEY? unbelievable.
