Just like every good, or let’s be honest - every cliché rom-com ever - my story started when I met this girl that was the literal embodiment of an energy drink. Bubbly, talkative, full of positive energy, always ready to give support and kick ass for her friends. No joke, she has jokingly threatened me by mentioning her shotgun when we were playing Among Us once. To my surprise, when we finished the stream, she actually sent me a picture of the shotgun she has hanging by the front door of her cottage. Yes, cottage, she lives out in the countryside. But she’s also the girl whose voice goes up to a high pitched squeal whenever one of her cats distracts her during a stream. She has a total of four kittens: Angie, Kai, Myla and Oscar. Every time someone refers to them as cats she acts offended, correcting them by saying they’re her babies. She is known on YouTube as ‘Catgirl’ and has over two million subscribers. Her content is a depiction of her character - 100% her. She vlogs, she does DIYs, cooking videos, gaming streams, covers, basically: you name it she does it. She writes poetry, she’s into photography. You’re catching my drift here: she’s multi-gifted and dabbles into everything that comes across her mind. And she sticks by it instead of forgetting about it after a month or two. With her, nothing is a phase.

And I think I’ve fallen in love with her. Head over heels. The puppy-love kind. She mesmerizes and amazes me. She has turned me into a simp and has no idea. Going back to the rom-com tropes bingo: she’s the only one in the gang that hasn’t noticed how start-struck I am by her. I have honestly had it with Rae, Dave, Jack and the rest poking a stick at me for it. Worst part is that they’re doing it when she’s in the call and she still doesn’t notice. Or maybe she does and she’s just good at not paying mind to it. At least not in front of anyone.

But, I’m just as terrified as I am amazed.

Anxiety washed over Imogen’s green-gray eyes as she looked at the big, fat two million that decorated her YouTube channel. She blinked twice; she just woke up from a weird, paracetamol induced dream, when she decided to check her social media accounts.

Two of her YouTube friends had sent her tweets, congratulating her on the milestone she had apparently reached over night.

Imogen was starstruck. What started at a hobby at the age of twenty-two turned out to become her full-time job. And one she enjoyed more than anything else in her life.

Her channel, itseffinimogen, had been her safe haven for the longest time; and once she started documenting her mental health journey it skyrocketed.

Imogen was really happy, that she could live off making videos. She loved giving mental health advice to her viewers and spread awareness of her illness and her journey to become a happier version of herself.

Even if it was a hard journey. She was a naturally sad girl and living with borderline-personality-disorder and depression wasn’t the easiest. But Imogen tried her hardest. She tried her best to become a better version of herself.

She wanted to prove to other people out there, that taking the first step towards a stronger version of yourself was never wrong.

Now, twenty-eight years old, Imogen would upload her mental health journey and her Buddy Vlogs, which were the most popular content on her channel.

Owning an ESD, emotional-support-dog, gave her the opportunity to upload even more content, even if it was just a simple video of her taking Buddy on a walk.

Buddy was a three year old Siberian Husky with gray and white fur and the friendliest eyes. He was always by Imogen’s side and was a pillar of strength for the young woman.

She wouldn’t know if she would be able to handle the daily dose of anxiety, just from going grocery shopping, if Buddy wasn’t with her.

Imogen rubbed her eyes and liked Rae and Seán’s tweet. Rae, Rachel Hofstetter, was an American YouTuber and live streamer who noticed Imogen in one of Seán’s Among Us streams.

The Irish YouTuber Seán William McLoughlin started taking Imogen under his wing late 2018, when she started her mental health journey after leaving the psychiatric ward and meeting Buddy.

Ever since then, Séan has invited her to some of his multiplayer games and streams and brought the world of Gaming YouTube closer to Imogen. Ever since then, Imogen casually streamed herself playing Pokémon or Animal Crossing.

And then 2020 happened and the pandemic forced more people to stay at home. That was when the game Among Us rose to popularity. Seán quickly invited his fellow Irish friend to one of the streams and this is where Imogen was confronted with Rae.

The two girls immediately clicked and a cute friendship soon blossomed between the American Capricorn and the Irish Aquarius. Rae soon invited Imogen to more Among Us streams and that’s where Imogen met more of her, now, friends.

Imogen quickly typed in a confused tweet, thanking her viewers for putting up with her random shit and thanking them for giving her a opportunity to live her dream.

She grinned, before answering Rae and Seán’s tweets. She couldn’t quite believe what was happening. And soon her mentions were overflowing with people congratulating her and wishing her the best for her channel. Imogen took a deep breath.

Her feelings seemed to spill over any minute and she grabbed onto the quilt of her bed. Her heart speeding faster than a 808 drum. She looked next to her bed.

On the floor next to her bed was a black, fluffy cushion. On said cushion lied a huge, white-gray Siberian Husky. His eyes were closed and his head rested on his paws and Imogen smiled. She didn’t wanted to wake him, but her hands were shaking.

She was overwhelmed—like always, when she reached another milestone. Whistling through her teeth, the husky looked up and tilted his head. „Buddy, come ‚ere!“ Imogen whispered and the fluffy dog quickly jumped up and nestled itself next to Imogen’s thin form.

The woman dropped her phone next to her thigh and hid her face in the fur of her dog. „God, I can’t even deal with reaching 2 mil“, she sighed and scratched Buddy’s ear. The dog tilted his head and looked at her.

„It’s okay, Bud. I’ll get through this wave“, Imogen took a deep breath and moved her dark hair out of her face, before grabbing her phone and checking her mentions again.

Twitter was blowing up with hashtags like #sadimogento2m or #imogens2mparty and the resonance from the fans were warming Imogen’s heart.

A tweet by her best friend caught her attention and Imogen’s insides felt warm and fuzzy. Baylee Macasa had been Imogen’s best friend for the past four years and had been with her through all her ups and downs.

Even if the two girls lived way too far away from each other, they still texted everyday and Imogen often had invited Baylee and her friends into her gaming streams—just to have some more people to play with.

With a smile she liked Baylee’s tweet and moved on to the next one. The tweet was one of her other YouTube friends. Rae had introduced Imogen and Sykkuno, to each other and Sykkuno’s soft and well spoken personality had immediately warmed Imogen’s jet black heart.

His tweet was as cute as he himself was and she quickly liked his tweet. The next tweet she liked was from her friend Pokimane, Imane Anys, who also congratulated her.

After liking some of her fans’ tweets, she hid her face back in Buddy’s fur, when her phone pinged next to her. Outside of her window the sun was slowly rising over the river Lee and Imogen sighed.

She had to go out today. Buddy was almost out of dog food and she had to get groceries. Her hands started sweating and she wiped them on her quilt, before taking her phone. The lock screen showed another Twitter notification and Imogen tapped it.

Reading the tweet made her hands even sweatier and she subconsciously typed an answer, before hiding back in Buddy’s fur. „Bud, I fecked up big time“, she confessed and petted her dog.
