I might have adhd but I'm also a hypochondriac so my parents will laugh at my concerns.
Recently I came across this reddit post from a father who was against his wife piercing get baby's ears which was a cultural thing for her on the grounds of upholding his child's bodily autonomy.
It made me wonder why it was a big deal to get ears pierced, because being born and brought up in India, I've almost everyone I've met have had piercings regardless of religion and even gender (few exceptions) .
It has never been a matter to complain about, infact, earrings are a major part of our culture.
Babies have their ears pierced both boys and girls at 3-6 months of age and continue to have it throughout, even boys may choose to keep them.
Gifting fellow girlfriends earrings and shopping for them is a common and every aspect of it lives and cherished.
It's a modification that can be reversed very easy and quick. A child can choose to let it close after it grows older.
The dilemma - is it really that wrong to practice a custom with minimal harm that's been from generations in non western countries?
Or is it just another western centric ideal that we can ignore when it comes to practicing our culture?
Why do these young professors think being mean and rude to the students makes them cool . No we will not respect you more because you're "strict" we'll just think you're an ass.
My Instagram feed gets ocassionally filled with aesthetic landscapes outta nowhere.
And then I've to go furiously like anime posts to restore it.
