i dont read fics-- now im curious

A pretty minor quibble and yet somehow one of the weirdest Mettaton characterization missteps I've ever seen- I was reading a fic that was mostly very good for what it was but there's a scene where a guy's being a dick to him and Mettaton gets annoyed that he's referred to as a robot. You know, the term he refers to himself with multiple times (see Cooking With A Killer Robot) and the thing he and Alphys took great pains to hide the fact he was ever anything but? Being a robot is a point of pride to him.

a concept:

mettaton is waiting outside on the surface for a very long time because alphys wanted to go to a mew mew kissy cutie fan convention and undyne couldn’t make it, so he decided to accompany her. naturally alphys wanted to be the first in line, so she decided they were going to camp outside of the building for the entire night before the doors open, and mettaton let her use him as a heater. a small stray kitten notices this new boxy source of heat and decides to sleep on his head, and alphys decides she’s taking it home.
