Brain: In God Games, When Zeus is listing the divines Athena needs to persuade, he states "Hera, or Me" not "Hera, and Me" implying he probably made up this whole thing up not expecting she would actually have a solid argument against Hera, just to then show off a magnanimous king father behaviour by going "Now now wife, let the girl have fun with his favourite mortal" and instead Athena went "Well ODYSSEUS doesn't cheat on HIS wife 👀🤷🏻‍♀️" persuading Hera and throwing Zeus (and Aphrodite and Ares, technically) under the metaphorical bus on Live Olympus Arena™, which is probably a big factor on why he decides to thunderbolt her, not just bc she did the Impossible and got the family to agree on something
Me: Ayo brain what the fuck

oh this has me *miserable*
the idea that lizzie's closest friend and companion has been manipulating her for years to fester hatred for the navy while slowly leading her to her demise? chefs kiss. the angst. the drama.
Ok goes here’s my worst case scenario of Caspian being the traitor theory,
And this all hinges on two assumptions
1. Lizzie is telling the whole truth (as far as she knows) in episode 101 when telling the story of Ava’s death; she saw Ava fall but she didn’t see who (or if multiple people) shot/killed her.
And more importantly,
2. Ava, right before dying, killed Shadow-Beard even though Ava already most likely knew Lizzie cared about/loved him as father. And even if she didn’t know about that relationship I’m pretty sure Lizzie said she begged Ava to spare him and she killed him anyway.
Okie so assumption one is already suspicious. It understandable that people forget certain details surrounding tramatic events. But like the story Lizzie tells is so vague, there’s only like four events in it. There was an ambush. Ava killed Shadow-Beard. Ava died. Caspian got me out.
No mention of what happened to the other crew members, what was happening immediately prior to the ambush, what direction the soldiers came from. What they used to fight. Not really even mentioning how they escaped.
And for assumption number two, personally I wouldn’t be avenging my dead lover if said lover had murdered my dad in front of me minutes before dying.
I mean it’s possible that Shadow-Beard was shitty or abusive and Ava killing him could’ve been what she thought was best for Lizzie. But!
1. That wasn’t Ava’s call to make and Lizzie definitely Didn’t Want That
2. The daddy-issue that Shadow-Beard unleashed as ripple effect on the campaign is a whole separate post.
So what I’m saying is the whole situation is kinda weird right. And for months I just couldn’t warp my head around why Ava would kill Shadow-Beard and basically betray Lizzie. Because in the scenario where Ava survived, her and Lizzie are not girlfriends anymore. Like either Lizzie feels betrayed and wants revenge for Shadow-Beard or in the scenario where Ava is somehow forced to kill him (either by magic or blackmail) it wouldn’t make sense to leave Lizzie alive either (from the Navy’s perspective). Even if the Navy promised to leave Lizzie alone if Ava kill Shadow-Beard. I doubt they would’ve actually, and I’m sure Ava at least wouldn’t be naive about that. So like what was Ava plan here?
So my theory is that Ava was shot by the Navy but Ava didn’t kill Shadow-Beard. Caspian killed Shadow-Beard, and has been casting modify memory spells on Lizzie to make her think Ava killed Shadow-Beard.
Which would explain why Lizzie so fuzzy on the details of that day.
The Navy doesn’t have to kill Lizzie if they’ll have Caspian (a spy) watching her every move to feed them updates on pirates society through her.
They wouldn’t assume they’d have to worry about vengeance because the person who “killed”Shadow-Beard (Ava) is already dead <- they we’re wrong about this one but to be fair one 20-something taking on an entire militaristic government seemed unlikely at the time.
Also just the horror of it is great. The man who killed your father is waking up in the cot next to yours. He’s bringing you meals and fights alongside you. He’s holding you when cry about your lost family. He’s planning another ambush. He’s going to kill you like he did your father. But you don’t know any of that. You just know you love him.
