Here’s some concepts and creatures for TERRANAUT, my next short story set in the Runaway to the Stars universe. It’s about two scud siblings, Chkbrr and Rzzt-tt, who are part of a deep inland research team. A silly argument between siblings cascades into a terrible accident, and Chkbrr misses the train home to the ocean. Stranded in an arid climate with dwindling food, fuel, and supplies, Chkbrr must survive as a scud out of water for the two weeks before another train can arrive. Rzzt-tt, meanwhile, is stuck on the train home, plagued with guilt for starting the argument in the first place. It’ll be fun! For me, to write. The scuds will be pretty stressed out.
