In your AU, how bad can the rot get? Could it ever get bad enough to kill him? What are the symptoms? Love your art by the way!

The rot I think can get pretty bad to the point he's bedridden for days especially when he pushes his limits, like physically doing taxing tasks or under extreme mental stress.

I don't think it can kill him if treated but it can ruin the quality of his life very easily. If he didn't keep up with medication and kept it entirely untreated though he would definitely be at risk of dying due to the buildup.

The symptoms would be

Pain all over the body, which can vary from light to severe it fluctuates every time

The build-up of rot within the throat and lungs causes extreme coughing fits < this isn't very often if treatment is kept up with

Nausea

Light-headedness

A lack of appetite for solids or fluids < these guys don't need to eat solids but they rely on a diet of fluids to keep going

Appearance of rot spores all over the body, generally these don't do much except feel really uncomfortable
