A mutual lovingly demanded for me to turn this into a prompt, so here goes:

Used as bait with an extra step…one character sees the other one get captured and is unable to stop it in time. Then, when the used as bait situation happens, there’s an extra level of guilt. They wouldn’t be in this mess if the character had tried a little harder, been a little faster, gotten there in time…

Some more sarcastic/defiant whumpee quotes and stuff:

Content: whipping, branding

Whumpee, as whumper comes in: "You looked better in the stocking mask."

"You think you're funny, whumpee?" "No, I think YOU'RE funny."

Whumpee forcing a chuckle as whumper approaches with a whip. "Oh. More of... That. Very creative."

Whumpee sobbing, "you don't think if I knew, I'd have told you? Look at me! Do I look like I'm handling this?"

Watching whumper approach with a brand and licking their lips, "look, whumper--and I'm not trying to hurt your feelings--but you catch more flies with hone--" whumpee breaks off into a scream as the brand sinks into their flesh

Painful silence as whumper slowly approaches whumpee with a riding crop, pauses for effect. "You just gonna stand there staring at me, or are we gonna get to the torture already?"

"count." Lash. "At least you're not making me kiss you." Lash. "I said count!" "This is more fuuuun fuck! Fuck you!"

Whumpee panting insults raggedly between screams

"ahhhh fuck!" Whumpee gasps a few breaths to add "soft as granite, you are."

Whumper enjoying the jibes. "Come on whumpee. I know you've got another one in you." *Hits them again*

That laugh groan that people make when they're kind of apalled at how much that hurts but they have a sense of humor about it... Turning into desperate cries with tears

"we're both having so much fun, whumpee, I'd hate to end this early." (Whumper trying to get whumpee to beg them to stop) "did you never play a videogame? There are other ways to have fun!!"

"look at me." "Come on... I don't wanna see your ugly face."

That moment when the sarcastic remarks stop, whumper walks close, lifting wet hair from whumpee's face with the handle of the whip.

"How about now?" Whumper says. "Got any more smart comments?" Whumpee, silently sobbing, shakes their head.

You are absolutely right. And I raise you, sweaty forehead kisses when they're conscious/lucid enough to appreciate them. Best trope by far

can i get some appreciation for BEDSIDE ANGST??

hospital bedside angst of course but any sort will do. especially if character A is in pain/delirium or unconscious or intubated and character B can't do anything but sit there and hope and pray and talk even if A can't hear them. there's the sense of betrayal.. they made it home/to the hospital/wherever and are supposed to be SAFE now they're supposed to be OKAY but now what. B can only just now watch and wait and nothing else. especially love if A has like an illness or infection and B can't do a single thing to help..

The moment a defiant whumpee breaks down for the first time. 

It shocks them nearly as much as their audience. They try stubbornly to hold it in, to keep their expression firm. Whumpee’s body rigid with the effort; jaw set, fists clenched and shaking.  They can’t trust themselves to speak, can’t trust themselves to breathe, and so they bite their lip in a desperate attempt to remain composed. They fail, and when their body forces them to inhale, the shuddering gasp that comes out is a sob. The tears begin to flow unrelenting, and their frustration at their weakness only makes them flow faster. They can only angrily swipe away at the onslaught or turn away, all useless attempts to hide the shame clear on their face. 

I like to think about someone watching them, standing still as whumpee’s crumbling apart. Maybe it’s caretaker. It’s the first time they’d seen whumpee look so small, so hurt. They want to help, want to give the comforting words whumpee could never accept before. But indecision stills their hand. What could they say that whumpee would hear? 

Or maybe it’s whumper, watching in near shock as their oh so stubborn captive dissolves into tears before them. They don’t even mock them at first, simply watching whumpee’s trembling form. Watching them, even as whumpee tries to hide their shame. Watching and feeling nothing but satisfaction. 

There’s simply something so sweet about a character defined by their defiance falling apart.

The older of two siblings works to keep their younger sibling out of trouble. They endure emotional and physical pain daily just for their younger sibling.

The younger sibling is grateful, sure, but never knows the true extent of their sibling’s protection. They patch up their older sibling’s wounds while nagging them to be more careful. Sometimes they can come across as rude or uncaring, but they don’t know why their older sibling just won’t listen.
