Chiune Sugihara. This man saved 6000 Jews. He was a Japanese diplomat in Lithuania. When the Nazis began rounding up Jews, Sugihara risked his life to start issuing unlawful travel visas to Jews. He hand-wrote them 18 hrs a day. The day his consulate closed and he had to evacuate, witnesses claim he was STILL writing visas and throwing from the train as he pulled away. He saved 6000 lives. The world didn’t know what he’d done until Israel honored him in 1985, the year before he died.

          Maine Coon cats

Maine coons are one of the most popular cat breeds not only in the United States but internationally as well. Their friendly and playful nature makes them a perfect house pet for people who have kids, as well. And also—boy, are they large! Being the largest domestic cat breed, grown Maine coons can weigh somewhere between 9 to 18 pounds, with some of them reaching 20 pounds or more.

There are states in the United States where cats are recognised as state symbols. Massachusetts has its tabby cat, Maryland—calico cat, while Colorado, California, and Tennessee recognise adopted shelter and rescued pets as their official state symbols. 

Maine coons are known for their majestic fur. It’s so long and thick, it makes them perfect for long and snowy winters in Maine, as they have two layers of fur. Between their toe beans, there’s some fur too, for added warmth. Their distinctive ear tufts are one of the things that distinguish them from other long-haired breeds, while their fur can come in a variety of colours.

These majestic cats come from the state of Maine, where the breed was known as far back as the early 19th century. Maine coons are a natural breed, and there isn’t a lot of information about their origins, merely speculations. Some believe the cats were brought by Vikings, others—that they’re descendants of long-haired cats of Marie Antoinette that were sent to North America in advance of the queen, who hoped to escape there.

Being descendants of excellent mousers, Maine coons have retained their skillful ways. According to the experts, these cats will hunt down any rodent that comes their way. When not hunting, Maine coons will be perfectly satisfied chasing pretend mice (read: toys).

Among the main appeals of Maine coons are their chill, friendly, and laid-back personalities. These cats are perfect for families who have children and even dogs. Of course, any other pet should be introduced slowly to the Maine coon, just like to any other cat.
