Okay. So. First things first

This is how you’d get closer to L. Y’know the saying, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach?” That is entirely true with L.

If you’re baking during the Kira case, I can definitely see Matsuda coming to find you and trying to steal a cookie or two and you gotta smack his hand away

Definitely helps Watari out, too. Watari doesn’t need to spend as much money on sweets or time baking anymore with you around

L gets all happy when he sees you bringing him a plate of cake, and gets even happier when he can feel the plate is a little warm, spotting the steam rising from the slice of the cake.

L loves when YOU take care of his sweet tooth. He’s always wanting you to make something

If he’s not working and you’re baking, he’s gonna come up behind you and hug you until the stuff is ready to eat

If you learn to make chocolate bars and lollipops or whatever, stuff Watari usually just buys at a store, he’s gonna propose to you right there

L hates when you give your baking to anyone else, especially if that “anyone” is Light, Misa or Matsuda. He’s actually kind of okay with sharing the desserts with Watari, Soichiro and Mogi though, but he’d prefer to keep it for himself

If you’re with him before the Kira case, and before Matt and Mello ran off, the kids’ll want you to make stuff for them too

L doesn’t like sharing desserts with them too, but they’re just kids so he’s forced to be quiet about it

His sons end up liking you more than him (Mello especially) and L is all like :/ what the fuck that’s my S/O

Watari will be your taste tester. Usually loves helping you as well. Will also try to help you in forcing L and the kids to eat actual meals (Matt and Near have less of a problem with separating from sweets, whereas Mello and L practically fight you both on it)

L will also love if you get like, cupcake flavored chapstick or any kind of sweet perfume. Cuddling and kissing are about to become a constant if you do that

L will start to call you “my little baker” and “cupcake” and “muffin.” Also, instead of calling you the light of his life, he calls you “the slice of my cake” ???

He thinks it makes sense but it doesn’t

When you gift him sweets, he may cry later about it. Obviously in the moment he wont, but later when he’s thinking about it he will

L is used to people not wanting to be around him, much less give things to him. Yeah he’s got “sons” and Watari acts like a father, but his sons don’t exactly interact with him and two of them grow to detest him. L, in reality, is a very lonely man

So for you to give him something, sweets especially, made his heart swell so much

It doesn’t matter how long you two are together. Every time you give him something, it makes him want to cry later.

He really savors the gifted sweets, eating them slower than usual. He really wants to cherish the moment

It also, strangely, makes him a lot sleepier. So once he’s done eating your gifted sweets, he’ll lean against you and fall asleep

If you gift them while he’s working on the Kira case, the Task Force are all going to be horrified at the little smile L has on his face

Its to the point that Aizawa will fucking hunt you down to make L sweets and gift them to him if L’s been in a bad mood

“I’ll even go buy the wrapping paper right now, just— please, Ryuzaki is verbally beating the shit out of Mastuda and it’s even making me wince.”

L will get upset if you comfort Matsuda while he eats the sweets you gifted him. Matsuda is fucking crying in the corner and you’re hugging him, and L is thinking fucking Matsuda…>:(while eating a cookie you gifted him

Overall this little froggy man LOVES your baking, even if its a flavor he doesn’t particularly like or if its a little burnt. It just makes him really happy knowing that you care so much for him <3

Notes: This has been in my drafts for a couple of months, and I finally finished it. I'm in college now, guys! :D Also, this turned out shorter than I originally imagined.

Tossing and turning in your sleep, you had forced Ling awake. Ling was known for being a real heavy sleeper, so for him to wake up in the middle of the night was unusual. Looking over at you, Ling was greeted with a weird sight.

You, in a completely different position than when you both fell asleep, had completely kicked the blankets off of you. Face contorted into one of aggression, Ling immediately recognized what was going on. Moving to shake you, he began to chant your name like a mantra.

"(Y/n), (Y/n), (Y/n), (Y/-"

Finally, with persisting shakes and calling of your name, finally your eyes shoot open with a gasp. Your gaze immediately landing on Ling's form above you, his hair loose and framing his face. Immediately grabbing onto his form, you dragged him down to lay on top of you.

"Woah! Hon, what? What happened? Were you having a nightmare?"

Ling was still half asleep. You nodded meekly, hiding your face in his neck. Ling let out a small sigh, holding you close with a small smile. Then, it registered in his tired mind that you had just had a nightmare, and his smile was wiped off.

"Did you wanna talk about it?"

"Not right now, Li..." You whimpered.

"Okay, alright, do you want some water?"

You went back to wordlessly shaking your head. Ling held you closer.

"Okay, I'll just hold you then, okay?"

"Okay..."

And he did just that. Humming quietly to you as he rocked you back and forth, slowly waking up and realizing the situation. No words were exchanged between you two as he continued to hum whatever song was playing in his mind, sometimes stopping to plant a little kiss on your forehead.

Twenty minutes passed and you seemed to be calming down. Ling them looked down at you. "Hon? You want some water?"

"Yes please..."

Ling nodded and helped you get out of bed with him, leading you into the kitchen and making sure to turn on the lights along the way. Handing you your glass, he waited for you to finish it before leading you back to bed.

"Do you feel okay enough to go back to sleep?"

"Mhm..." You nod, beginning to grow tired again.

"Okay, c'mon." He smiled, pulling you into bed with him.

Making it so that you stayed in his arms, facing him, he leaned down to kiss you a few times before nuzzling against you. He gave you a soft smile.

"Sweet dreams, I love you, (Y/n)."

That made you smile. "Sweet dreams, Li. I love you too."

Sighing to yourself as you scroll through the messages you last sent Mello, detailing how you wished his day would go okay, that you loved him and offered your support if he needed it. Although, with how silent he'd been recently, you doubted he needed it.

He hadn't responded to you in three days. And before that, a simple "okay." And before that? More days of radio silence. He hadn't even read your messages. You'd been with him long enough to spot the signs of his life getting too hectic and busy to keep up with you.

But, as you read through your messages to him, you'd noticed you gradually sent less and less. You were sad that Mello wasn't replying, or even attempting to reach out to you or make it up to you...had he stopped caring?

'No,' You thought. 'He'd tell me if he did...'

But what if he didn't? What if he figured this was the easiest way? A shuddering sigh made its way out of your mouth at the thought, and so you opted to just close out of the text conversation all together.

"No, no, stop that...he'll...he'll get back to me eventually." You rested your head back against the couch. "Right...?"

Sitting by yourself for a moment, you pondered what to do now. You didn't want to text Mello again in fear of getting in the way of something. Looking towards the window, you noticed the sun was setting. This would be prime time for Mello's group to act on whatever devious plan they may or may not have set. It wasn't a good idea to text him right now anyways.

A ping came from your phone, and you felt your heart skip a beat in excitement. Was it Mello?! You opened your phone, but your smile fell as you saw it was your friend, Ike, instead.

Ike: Hey (Y/n), wanna hit the town with me tonight? :3

(Y/n): Couldn't hurt. Stuck at home doing nothing.

Ike: Again? Where's that blonde bombshell of yours?

(Y/n): No clue

Ike: Oh :( Well, I'll come pick you up in an hour for dinner and drinks, alright?

You figured it was okay to do this. It wasn't like Mello was around to say no. Even if he was, who was he to tell you no? Cleaning yourself up to look at least a little decent for a night out, you waited patiently for Ike. While constantly checking your phone for any sign of Ike or Mello. Mello still hadn't read your messages, which hurt, but you were forced to brush it off.

Finally, Ike texted you that he was outside, and you promptly left your apartment. He brought you to a nice bar and grill, the both of you catching up and talking about your respective relationships. Once Ike finished telling you about his plans to propose to his boyfriend, he asked you again about Mello.

"Oh, we're fine." Shrugging it off with a small smile, you took a sip of your wine. "He's just been a little busy is all."

Ike's own smile fell a bit. "Y'know, he's been a little more um...busy than usual. Every time I text you these days, he seems to not be around."

"Everything's fine, Ike. Just work dragging him away again." You chuckled lightly. "Now, back to this proposal of yours..."

Matt and Mello were finally done for the night, riding back home on Mello's motorcycle. Stopping at a stoplight, Mello kept his eyes on the light, itching for it to turn green.

"Um, Mello?" Matt mumbled.

"What?"

"Look." Matt pointed to the restaurant next to them.

Mello turned to look, and saw you and Ike sitting in the restaurant. It made Mello's chest tighten up in jealousy, but he had to remind himself that Ike was with someone.

"So? It's her friend. Whatever."

"But what if Ike and his boyfriend broke up?"

"No, she'd tell me."

"Would she? I mean, you haven't been giving her any attention lately."

"What do you mean? Been giving her plenty of fuckin' attention." Mello grunts.

"Really? Dude, check your messages."

Sighing, Mello dragged his phone out, wondering why the light was taking so long to change. Of course, he saw missed texts from you. But they were less than they were usually. You'd only texted him once today, and yesterday only three texts remained. The day before, four of them.

"Better be careful, she might be losing interest from your neglect..." Matt whistled.

Looking back up at the two of you in the restaurant, Mello growled again. Once the light finally turned, he revved his bike before riding away.

"Wha-" Matt turned to watch the restaurant disappear quickly behind them. "What are you doing?! Don't you want her?"

"I do! But I'm dropping you off first!"

Matt sighed, secretly disappointed. He wanted to see how Mello would worm his way back into your heart.

When you and Ike were leaving, you felt a little sad to be going home alone again, even if the ride back home would still be in Ike's presence.

"Hey, are you sure you're alright? You can spend the night with me and Cameron if you'd like." Ike offered a small smile.

"Thanks, but...I don't wanna intrude." You gave another small smile, even though you wanted to.

"Oh, you wouldn't be-" Ike started, genuinely trying to comfort you.

"She said no." Mello sneered, stepping into the dim light outside the restaurant.

"Mello?" You perked up.

"Hey. I um...I need to talk to you."

That made your heart drop to your stomach. This is when he breaks up with you, right? Ike looked down at you before patting your shoulder and walking into the parking lot. However, he wasn't going to drive away, in case Mello really did leave you and you needed a ride home.

"Look, I um..."

You looked down at the ground. "Just get it over with already, Mello..."

"Huh?"

"You're breaking up with me, right?"

"What? No! I'm trying to apologize for not being around lately!" Mello grabbed your shoulders, then dropped his volume. "Who said I was breaking up with you? I'll kill them!"

"No, calm down, nobody did. I just assumed..."

"Oh. No. Baby, I love you. I'm...I'm really, really sorry that I haven't been able to get back to you or see you often lately. Work's been dragging me down, swamping me and forcing me to make it my first priority."

When Mello was sure you weren't going to say anything, he continued, pulling you closer.

"I should have texted you more, let you know what was going on...I didn't even know how much I was neglecting you until Matt pointed you out in this restaurant tonight. I'm really, really sorry. And I...I can understand if you can't forgive me."

"Mello..." You sighed. "Just...please make sure to at least let me know you're okay, just busy?"

"I will, I promise, anything you want." Mello put his hands on your cheeks.

"Alright..." You put your hands on his wrists. "Alright, I forgive you."

Mello kissed you before leading you to his motorcycle, helping you get situated before driving off. Ike smiled softly at the sight before driving home himself.

Once you and Mello got home, you moved to the couch to sit, but Mello stopped you.

"What are you doing?"

"You've got some other work, right?" You were so used to his busy schedule now, you just kind of assumed.

"No. Tonight's all about you, hon." Mello wrapped an arm around your shoulder, dragging you to your shared bed.

Mello spooned you in the bed, placing chaste kisses along your cheek, neck, and shoulder. His hands resting at your stomach, fiddling with your shirt as he tells you all the shit that went down over the few weeks.

After he finished, he then told you about stupid shit Matt did, and Mello reveled in your tired laugh. Moving you to face him, he laid on top of you, looking into your eyes before leaning down to kiss you on the lips.

You, of course, returned the kiss, and smiled comfortingly at Mello when he pulled away.

"I love you."
