“i worry a very reasonable amount,” he argues, practically pouting. realistically, he knows he’ll be fine. he’s proud of the song, everyone who’s heard it so far likes it; his fans have been obsessing over the teaser he dropped; his first album did better than he ever expected. but he’s still afraid. “what if—what if people don’t like it, though? i could be a one-hit wonder. what if you don’t like it?” that’s jason’s worst fear, really; that the boy he wrote this song about will hate it.

theodore laughs, shaking his head once more before laying it against jason’s shoulder. “ you don’t need to worry, though! that’s all i am trying to say. you must already know that it will be popular, right? ” he tries to ease the worry of the other, the familiar scent of his cologne enough to ease his own worries when he’s feeling any. “ how could you even suggest that people won’t like it? that’s really .. prepostorous! ” the male scrunches his nose as he tries not to allow himself to laugh. “ see! and i even used a super specific word for that. so you know i’m serious. ” theodore leans forward and rubs the tip of his nose against jasons’, the familiarity and closeness causing his stomach to flutter. “ don’t even say that, or think it, okay? i like everything you write -- even those weird little melodies you conjure up when you’re drunk. ” truth be told, he liked everything about jason, too, but this wasn’t the time nor the situation to bring that up. “ what can i do to help soothe your mind? ”

     “ apparently we’re too old for costume parties so that’s kind of depressing, ” he huffed, almost in a dispirited manner. “ what do you think we should do instead? bake cookies, carve some pumpkins… or maybe try to summon a demon or two? ”

theo smiles wide at the question -- he loves nothing more than the holiday of halloween .. dressing up, bags full of candy, laughter. “ we’re too old for costume parties? ” he says, dejected. “ why don’t we host our own costume party? i’d rather not summon a demon.. or two, that sounds awful. ” theo shudders at the mere idea of it. “ we could hand out candy! or bake cookies! or carve pumpkins! ” he pauses. “ or all three!! ”

     the smile upon adrian’s lips were matched with theo’s, his energy instantly revitalized by the other’s enthusiasm alone. consider the demon - summoning idea forgotten once the other suggested more exciting ways they could spend their evening. “ we can do all three! there’s a mini grocery store right across the street, it should have everything we need. i think this is also the best time to confess that the kids in my neighborhood aren’t too fond of me, so you might have to do the handing out part without me. ”

“ yeah? ” theo was so used to his excitement being shot down by those around him that to hear adrian so excited made him smile even wider than before. “ okay, well, we can dress you up and they won’t even know that it’s you handing out candy. they’ll think, like, maybe the neighbor they aren’t fond of is gone. and that this new pair of neighbors is cool, or whatever they say. do they still say swag? ” the male giggles, tapping his foot against the floor. “ what sort of pumpkin would you like to carve? ”

what is he talking about? nikon thinks to himself. “ haven’t seen me in awhile? ” the bodyguard raises an eyebrow. “ maybe you haven’t seen me, jace, but i’ve been there. it’s my job to watch over you, for heaven’s sake. ” he smirks as jace smiles at him, shaking his head. “ do you really not notice when i’m around? am i that inconspicuous? ”
