I dont even know if she has a choice or what just to leave her children with a man who was abusive just because she thinks their place is in the palace. Yeah, she's been banished bla bla bla but well in the series she just left without knowing why the fuck she left. First of all, why does she agree to leave? she was the one who hold the key to what Ozai want. Yeah I know she was the first one that came to Ozai for Zuko live. But like I think for her character that was been written to love her children I can see she was a person that tried to kill Ozai too in the way. but maybe because she died or something accident happen that made she can save her own children, like making her die in the series would explain why she never appears or trying to appear in Zuko and Azula's live

Ursa didn't love Azula

And if she did she never showed it properly which... for a child is felt the same as not being loved at all. I can understand especially in the context of the abusive domestic situation their family was in that it was difficult for Ursa to properly parent both her children, but it's not a stretch to say that Ursa saw too much of Ozai in Azula, and she sure as hell didnt love Ozai lol

well for me she did love her but didn't show it much like she feared her because Azula acted like Ozai? And since she lives in an abusive household it does make sense that she ends up getting fuck up with one child. And I think Ozai makes her life isolated from others? I forgot where I read the isolated part.

I remember reading somewhere else where Ursa did love their kid but favored Zuko. and Azula just feels less love because most of the time she spends so much time with Zuko. I need to re-watch Atla because it's been a long time since I watched it, and I forgot some parts. I do agree that in Show they didn't show it and made it like Ursa didn't show love toward Azula but I think I remember that in Beach EPS Azula said when their family used to be happy? like the point, she mentions part when they used to be a happy family but because of something, it turned into like what we see now.

I'm kinda like the old idea of her being noble after I find out about the old stuff about ATLA after reading the comic I end up preferring the old one.

Some might said that Ursa did abuse Azula in emotional way like emotional neglect. (This is from other person post not mine) but I don't know if it was abusive or not because I'm not doing research for that part.

Yeah I do agree, that it is bad part of Ursa that she didn't showed love that Azula need bacuse Azula is special case, people need more patience to explain that was wrong to her but for most of the time Azula always get this scolding for most of the time in flashback (maybe we can assume that Azula did get scold from Ursa most of her childhood and Ursa didn't showed much love toward her, leaving Azula to feel that Ursa didn't love her because of what Ursa did to her). Ursa lack of patience for Azula was well bad, like if she can be patience with Zuko why not with Azula? This would lead Azula to cling more to Ozai who is supportive about Azula behaviour, and I think Ozai did make Azula relationship with Ursa became more worse (I think)

But yeah being bad parent doesn't mean she was abusive but again I don't know so I would just say she was a bad parent to Azula but not to Zuko. In show we didn't get much from Azula perspective leaving it to be mystery, she didn't get flashbacks like Zuko did. The ironic part of the show where Azula hallucinate about her mother was well something for me. We can get the point of Azula did know that her mother do love her but she was in denials to admit that. Or it was just what Azula want to hear about her mother saying that she indeed love her even when she knows that Ursa didn't show it that she love her or actually don't love her at all.

And for the comic I don't really see it as canon because of what they did to Azula and jeez the plot was kinda, well, I would say bad. It's not like my liking at all. And the sudden change of background for Ursa was well not my liking either. I don't really remember the comic much because I speed run it, for me it would make sense if Ursa was noble lady and not commoner remembering who is Roku in the past. Like what was the point of Ozai married commoner anyway? I don't remember it and if you do you can pointing out. Overall I would taking show perspective for most of the time.
